Social media has given everyone a platform to be an expert. But it got me thinking how does Social Media affect the 5 mindsets of men? I mean really, if you don’t know who you are… it can eat you up.
I think I was around 32 years of age when I realized I had never truly studied me. Oh, I have always been a voracious reader… but there are no books out there on Garth Heckman… so I started to really dig into who I was and what my motivation was in life. How I thought, acted, and where it all came from. You know the old saying “an unexamined life is not worth living”. I really took that to heart. So i want to do a little 5 part study on…Mindsets.
Wiener - Even if you looked at all the ingredients in a hot dog and thought “well I am not sure what all this is, but it sounds ok and it tastes good” - you would be disgusted to actually know what those ingredients really are. It is filled with meaningless waste product and filler… truth is you could put just about anything in a wiener and it could be deemed acceptable. This mindset shouldn’t be called a mindset at all but rather a mindshift… you can leave out the “f” if you want. This person listens to everyone. Insecure and easily wavers whenever challenged. They typically agree with the loudest voice in their head or in the room until someone louder shows up. They lack enough self esteem or confidence to think for themselves. Most likely they were kids in a family who had parents do all their thinking for them. They fear failing but not as much as the fear of not being accepted. Some just lack the experience as to how to even find check and balances in making a decision.
What to do if this is you?
Start by asking yourself a few questions: If I make my own decision and I am wrong, what is the worst that can happen? Will I die? Will I get blackballed? Will my parents hate me? Lets be real here for a second- not much of anything will really happen that you can’t overcome. Second question is: Why do you care what people think? Look If I am gong to invest my whole life savings I should probably worry about what my investor thinks about my decision to open a freeze pop stand. However again, most decisions are not that major and don’t need the utmost expert advice. If you are simply doing what others say to do to avoid criticism or failure… it’s going to happen regardless. So you might as well be criticized for being real and genuine!
Final thought. Start by making small decisions that you know might not sit well with others, but you deep down want to make. Like not going to your parents for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Or not going out with the boys and dropping money you don’t have on drink you don’t need. Start small, stretch and see just how good it feels not be a wiener! And by the way, when you get to heaven, Gods not going to ask you why you were not more like your neighbor Todd, he is going to ask why you were not YOU!
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows
What you are eating in life right now is what you have sown into your life.
Are you eating well financially?
Are you eating well physically?
Are you eating well mentally?
Are you eating well spiritually?
If you are then you have sown well. If not, then it is time to start eating right! Sow the best into your life! Don’t be a wiener.

People in their 20’s who think life sucks, or is hard or seems unfair… I just think to myself “wow you have no idea!” Life hasn’t even warmed up yet… thats like the sparring partner of Mike Tyson complaining about how mean Mike is… hold on a second there junior… you aren’t even the enemy… you think thats hard - be glad you are not the opponent - or in Mikes case - the enemy!
What happens in life that for many of us after a few years of being out on our own with our own family we get tired of trying… maybe even cynical. We have lost the art of dreaming or taking chances or risk. Maybe we even start to secretly think life is unfair and we begin to look down on anyone who seems to be living their dreams….
You have to hand it to Jesus… he prepared the disciples. He did not make it sound like it was just going to be sunshine and lollipops. He told them there will be persecution… but he told them to stop when they were persecuted and life got hard… UH NO!
You might miss the fact that Jesus did a great job of promoting a vision of each disciples life and future. He even changed some of their names to reflect that. Peter the Rock, James and John Sons of Thunder! But even in those pictures of who they were going to become he made sure they knew it was not going to be easy!
Danger signs:
You become envious, lazy, cynical or depressed because plans have just not gone according to your dreams or expectations.
Some of us are living in our own man made hell because we are filled with disappointment… and why? Because we were never told that life will be filled with disappointment, failure and hardships…
We love verses like “for I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, and give you hope and a future blah blah blah…
But we also have the balance of scripture… like
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
When someone has an easier life than you consider the following:
- You don’t know the whole story
- Theirs may just be around the corner
- They don’t have any stories (I can brag on God)
- They lack maturity due to an easy life (my growth has come from hard times)
Are you cynical or Christ centered?
Are you bored or believing
Are you passing on or pushing in
Are you opting out or opening up
Push into God! Yes there will be setbacks… push in anyway!

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Transformed… metamorphosis. This is the picture of what a caterpillar does in a cocoon. So the caterpillar spends the first part of its life just eating… that’s its job. Then it flips itself upside down and buries itself in a dark cave by its own actions. then it’s whole body basically turns into goo, jelly substance, and then it reforms through transformation into a beautiful butterfly.
What a picture of many of our lives. We are young and stupid and arrogant or maybe just naive. And we just let our appetites take over. At some point our life is turned upside down… our own doing just like the caterpillar. Then in our own actions we bury ourselves in a dark place… and life seems to just simply fall apart… it just turns into a mess. but in that darkness it is possible to transform.
3 things about transformation:
- 1 it is not just in actions alone. We must be transformed in our minds. Telling oneself “I will never do that again” is not enough. We must think it until it becomes a part of our thought pattern.
- 2 We can’t always see the transformation… but don’t quit the process. The Caterpillar is in a dark spot, he can’t see the process taking place, he only feels discomfort and loneliness. Same goes for you. You probably will not see the transformation until it is almost complete… or maybe until someone points it out to you. And remember God is in that darkness with you, he is the one transforming you.
- 3 Even after the transformation the butterfly still has to squeeze out of the cocoon shell in order to flush its wings with blood so it can fly. Look you may be transformed but it does not mean you still won’t go through some hard times… and that will only make what you have become that much more beautiful and create in you even more abilities. No one wants to be transformed simply to look pretty, we want to fly!
As you seek transformation as God… what do you have for me to do for you in this new state of mind. How can I now best serve you in the hard times and the good times.

Vanity, failure or Complete dependance
Comparison is a thief of joy.
No one is thinking about you… because they are all to worried about what others are thinking about them.
Hike your own hike. Do your own thing.
Who do you compare yourselves to?
…You do realize it is unrealistic - We never compare ourselves to someone who is just like us… wanna know why? Because there is only one of you.
Why do you compare yourselves too?
But in that ask yourself why are you comparing yourself to anyone?
Most likely the world pressures you to compare simply by the images we see and the narrative we hear.
We should compare to Jesus…Why
- We see how futile and silly that is if we do this without him
Galatians 6:4 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct.
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
*How are we conformed? By comparison… what I should look like, be like, act like etc…
Matthew 5:48 Be ye perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Perfect = Gk = be your full potential, be completed in Jesus.
The biggest enemy of comparison: You are trying to be someone else.
When you get to heaven God is not going to ask you why you were not more like “____________”.
He is going to ask you why you were not more like him and who he created you to be?
Vanity, failure or Complete dependance… it’s all a matter of comparison.

Hey this past week an american Olympic athlete turned her back on the flag and people are freaking out.
If you haven’t heard by now, BLM, CRT, LGBQT, CNN, FBIy and IOU (I just threw that in there for good measure) they are all the enemy or so you are told. But lets be honest… these are just the flys that are attracted by what is really going on - the end of the world.
I am no conspiracy theorist… but even our own secular scientists have recently released a report that a meteor is headed for earth and should strike on Friday, April the 13th in the year 2029…. uhhhh that is only 8 years and counting…
So what’s the big deal? Well it fits perfectly into God prophecy concerning the end times. The third trumpet sounded by an angel says an asteroid will hit the earth…

What is your distraction?
Who cares who turns their back on the flag, who kneels, what the current administration is pushing… are you surprised? You shouldn’t be… we already know the earth is heading towards the tribulation…
this brings up another scripture by the Apostle Paul.

Imagine all the things that are trying to get your attention as you are running this race…
on the streets as you run are people chanting inflation, dirty politics, pornography, sex trafficking, BLM, CRT, violence, Trump won, trump lost, Biden sucks, The border crisis… but you are running to save lives.
When this meteor hits, it is supposed to hit Mexico and california - it will have the impact of 65,000 atomic bombs like we dropped on Nagasaki. It will kill almost 1 Billion people…
Did you know we have already sent up rocket ships to try to blow it up…
The end is coming… how stupid are you to get caught up in the cultural trappings and arguments of this world.

However if you already have kids out of the womb and now in the room… all the more reason to understand your actions, your habits, your values ultimately impact your kids.
Hey who has not said “I just want my kids to have it better than me”… Or I hope my kids know God even more than I do… but the truth is that we for the most part set that bar for them. EVEN BEFORE THEY ARE BORN.
Wow, Gods hand is so instrumental in every area of our lives, even our childrens lives in and through us.
How about if today you understand your actions, choices and habits not just in light of how they affect you, but how they affect your children…. and if you don’t have children yet… well we now know you are still ultimately affecting them before you ever even have them.

He reprimanded me harshly and honestly and it cut me to the bone… but he did it in such a soft loving way, it broke me, humbled me and I loved him even more for his friendship.
How do we respond to sin?
2 Days ago an NFL player came out as being gay and there was a lot of chatter about it on social media… and Christians were not so kind.
Made me think about my response.
So I have a few gay and lesbian friends… they know I love them and they know I don’t agree with their lifestyle.
When I am asked from someone living in that lifestyle if I think it is a sin, I first clarify their question.
Are you asking me If I love you?
Are you asking me if I think you are a second class citizen?
Now, if you are asking me wether or not I think it is right… I then begin to explain to them that everyone lives their lives according to some rule, religion or mindset. I choose to live my life according to scripture… so scripture is clear that God has chosen a better way for you.
They often times want to debate me, hate me, berate me… I don’t fall for it. I just listen and love them. I do not get angry.
Look the truth is, we as humans do a lousy job of rating sin. Stealing is bad… unless you are rich and then if you steal it is really bad.
Lying is bad, unless it is a white lie then it’s ok, but if its a bad lie… well then its serious.
Murder is almost the worst
hurting or raping a child is probably top 1 sin… and of course Homosexuality is pretty bad as well….
This is nonsense.
Our sin separates us from God… that does not mean If I sin on a 1.0 level I am separated at a 1.0 level. It just simply means I am separated. PERIOD.
MY POINT… Whenever I tell someone about Jesus, or we disagree about sin, life, death, religion, sexuality etc… I make it my main point to love them.
I used to sit in a sauna every day and have conversations with a muslim man. VERY muslim, from another country… very anti america. We had many talks, I would pray for him and his family in the sauna. One day I saw him walking in the dead of winter and stopped to pick him up. His car had failed to start and he was walking home. He seemed baffled as to why I would pick him up. I told him I loved him and wanted to serve him. He was still baffled. Well a few years went by and we did not see each other for a long long time. One day I went in to a new gym to work out… it is a huge big box gym and that evening it was packed. I am at the desk buying a day pass and I see him making a B line straight to me… I am smiling, he is smiling, we greet each other and he begins immediately to tell everyone at the counter… this is a real man of God, he truly loves people, please treat him well… shocked me.
There was another guy at my gym (when I owned a gym) he was gay and we talked openly about our views. He would tease me and say that if I was gay he would go after me (of course to get a reaction out of me… I would tease him back) But one day he came up to me and said something along the line of this… You have me puzzled, I asked why, he said I know you don’t believe homosexuality is right, but I have never felt loved by someone or as accepted by someone as much as I do by you.
Look, as fare as I know my friend the muslim and my friend in the homosexual lifestyle are not yet living for God… but they have felt his love through me. Remember God said it is my his loving kindness that we are led to repentance… that kindness many times comes through us.

It’s one thing to know, it’s another thing to believe, and yet still it is another thing to actually live what you believe.
There is knowing, believing, acting on what you believe and then finally being what you believe. It is who you are, you cannot separate the two.

How many of us start out in our Christian faith wanting things from Christ -it’s natural. Then we want to be like Christ… but reality is that we should simply want to fully understand, recognize and embody his resurrection… not just resurrection power, but what the resurrection actually means to us as followers of Christ - it is the ultimate life alignment to all that God is.
Practically speaking… no matter how bad your life is, if you are a follower of Christ its not only all good, its all something you can use, glorify God in and have victory in.
When you see life through the resurrection… there is no doubt, there is no fear, there is no second guessing, there is nothing but excitement to see how God is going to use your life and circumstances to grow the kingdom and make Jesus famous.
How can anyone be a pessimist, a Debbie downer or have a bad attitude - I will tell you how- they do not have a full understanding of the resurrection and what that means to us as Christ followers!
Today may you wake up, smell the resurrection and may it fill your life with all that God is and has for you!

7 possibilities.
Can I start with a quick comment: Most people do not believe nor operate in their God given authority due to 7 possibilities.
- 1 Fear of the supernatural - You must not be afraid of the Supernatural because we are called to live by faith (living in the invisible/ the supernatural)
- 2 Fear of peers / looking foolish - Woman at huge AG church. God gave me a word for her, I followed her out of the sanctuary… her family was weirded out.
- 3 Lack of results - Don’t give up.

bleeding is acceptable,
falling is acceptable,
pain is acceptable,
fear is acceptable
Giving up is not!
When have you ever tried anything and mastered it on the first try? Never!
Why should practicing the authority of God be any different!

God will ask you to do some crazy things, speak some crazy things, go some crazy places… just go with it!

Responsibility - Teach, preach, baptize, heal and make disciples = establish Gods kingdom.
Authority - We are under authority in order to have authority
Power - Given power from the authority
Walking in Authority - YOU NEED 2 THINGS

I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.
(John 15:5)
This is the example Jesus used to illustrate the flow of God's power in the spiritual world. We are the branches that bear the fruit. Jesus is the vine. You do not produce the fruit, you just bear it (see John 15).
- 2 The power of the inherent word of God
The Greek word "exousia" means delegated power or authority under that which is adhered to by governing authorities and rule.
i.e. your power is given by written rule of the King!
