Your past doesn’t matter in Jesus… only your future. Think of the story you will tell from today on! Believe it, live it, trust him and go for it.

One that my friend Sean Stephenson shared with me and thousands of other entrepreneurs at Funnel Hacking Live back in 2016.
If you’ve ever heard Sean speak, you already know how powerful this keynote was.
I walked out of that room with a new perspective on business and life. And after hearing this, I think you will too.
Let’s dive into it.
During a segment of Sean’s speech, he shared the Coast Guard’s model. He said it saved him from quitting speaking when he considered giving it all up…
Get ready - this story is a powerful one.
Picture this.
It’s a stormy night.
Lightning bolts are slashing through the dark sky.
The wind is ferocious, making the water angry.
The air is cold, the type that leaves goosebumps on your arms and chills down your spine...
Amidst this, a boat gets capsized in mother nature’s path of destruction.
So the Coast Guard goes out to rescue it. They load up their men in the helicopter and locate the boat.
But once they hover over the top of the boat, they realize something…
There are more people in the water than there is space in the helicopter.
So what do they do? Who do they save?
Who would you save?
I know, it’s tough to answer.
But realistically, they can’t save everyone. It’s not possible.
So, they decide who to save based on a motto...
Can you guess what it is?
Their motto is - “We can only save the people who swim towards us.”
That makes the nearly impossible decision possible.
Now, I want you to think about this in terms of your business. But not only your business, your overall life too.
I know you want to serve and help everyone, but it’s not possible.
Just like the Coast Guard, you can only help the people who swim towards you.
The moment you try to help someone and they push you back - you have to stop. If they are flailing around or swimming away from you, you can’t help them.
Accept it.
They don’t want your help. Maybe they aren’t ready, and that’s okay. Hopefully, they swim toward you at some point. But if they don’t, the helicopter (you) has to leave.
Trying to help people that don’t want your help is the quickest way for you to drown.
And if you drown, what’s going to happen to all the other people swimming towards you that need your help?
Think about it.
Going forward, focus on the people swimming towards you. Don’t chase the others.
Open your arms and give the people who want your help everything you have. Get excited about them. That momentum becomes infectious.
You can’t save everyone.
So focus on the people you can save.
Once you do, you will notice a lot more people swimming towards you.
Look it happens a lot in a pastors life, but even if you are not in ministry if you have a strong personality or are looked at as successful you can run into the people who are upset because you did not rescue them when they were in trouble.
Truth be told I have had many people mad at me because I did not reach out to them when they were sick, distressed, in relationship problems, money issues, kids gone astray etc…
But here is the real truth - almost always these people didn’t really go to my church or were a part of my life in any significant way.
They wanted me to run after them to take care of them even though their commitment to our relationship or my church was really just one sided and selfish - yes on their part.
I have had people confront me and say “I thought you were supposed to care and love and help people as a pastor… and they will even throw in the story of the sheep that the shepherd goes after… (Luke 15) remember the story Christ told… a shepherd leaves the 99 in order to go after the one?
Thats when I ask them… “were you lost? Did you not know Christ?” because that is what that story is about… they typically get a little befuddled in their response… but ultimately they still blame me for not caring.
Well if you cared…
You know what Jesus was not nice… but he was kind. Nice people feel the need to try to please everyone. Kind people are simply loving to those who are a part of their lives - even when they may not deserve it.
Nice people exhaust themselves running after those who do not care…
Kind people discipline their energy for those who are running to them.
You know what is interesting? No where in the Gospels do I see a picture of Jesus running after those who did not care… he never ran after those who knew better but chose to not follow him. He also didn’t run after sinners, the total lost and depraved… but out of his kindness he was always available to them.
Today remember you can’t save everybody… you can’t serve everybody… only those who pursue you!

Galatians Part 2
THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUE GOSPEL!
Paul in verses 6-10 basically states…
The idea that your faith, Christian walk, Spiritual work is dependent on something other than Gods grace…
There must be some other hidden ingredient.
WHAT MAKES THE GOSPEL THE GOSPEL?
Galatians 1:6-10 Section 1
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

SHOCKED… There is no other way!
Gods grace alone.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE SHOCKED?
What makes you think you can take something so perfect, so beautiful and make it any better?
3 ways to pollute Gods grace:
- 1 Judging by my grace
What if we are on the opposite end of this verse and do not realize it.
*remember anything except the grace of God is legalism.
So maybe I am looking at others and inserting my “works/grace” mentality.
- the way they dress
- The way they talk
- the way they treat me
-2 inserting my leaven Matt. 16:6 beware of the leaven of the pharisees (the original judaizers)
How does this work?
I will give you an example: Im trusting God in faith for $1000.
(Now I go and mention it to everyone I run into… who am I really trusting?) That is adding leaven… trying to Get God to work on your behalf.
- 3 Simply trying to be good enough.
7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
Pervert - completely turn inside out opposite making of no value… making it rubbish!

Me, We, Angel… anyone - the covers every option.
Its not the messenger…. its the message!

AN ANGEL: Are the Judaizers angels?
Even if it is an angel… don’t listen to them.

What doe Paul mean by Gospel?

Any sexual lifestyle outside of marriage between Man and woman

Believe this etc…
Whats the outcome? you will be accursed - an anathema. Special place in hell for you.
Now he says it twice and in hellenistic Greek it can be seen as a comparison to what is better… i.e. Do you want to be a curse or a blessing?

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
People just don’t understand - and that’s ok.

The secret to life is simple: Lean in
Women/wife - listening, sitting next to her at a public event, walking with her when the presence of people you don’t know… Lean in.
Shooting… how many times when we teach shooting we have to continue to tell people to lean into it. Take your weight and push it into the grip leaning into it.
Better control, better accuracy, better breathing
Fighting - specifically self defense street fighting. It seems counter intuitive but you want to get as close to the person as you can, lean into them, look for pressure points and body control. You do not want to lean back… your balance is off and you are less likely to connect with striking… if they have a knife then obviously you hollow out, hollow out hollow out until you can move in and secure the arm holding the knife. If they have a gun and they are with in a few feet, it is best to get as close to them as possible… and you will lean in to take the gun… it will go off… but you are more safe leaning in
Intimidation - lean in
Negotiation - lean in, do not sit back and try to look cool, lean in and look controlled.
You want to have more of Gods power and presence in your life? Lean in.
Prov.3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
Don’t lean on yourself… Lean on God.
Lean into his voice, Lean into his word, Lean into more prayer, lean into his presence, Lean into worship… actively push into anything God might have for you.
Lean in until you feel him holding you up.

Luke 17:11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
First look at the magnitude of this miracle. Leprosy is a gross and voracious disease… to even heal one leper would be amazing… Jesus takes them all on at once!
How did Jesus heal them?
Lay hands on them? Pray for them? Quote scripture over them. Command healing on them? Tell them to confess their sins? Preach a sermon to them?
He gave them a simple step which was in accordance with the law… once you were healed you were to show yourself to the priest and they would approve and ok your healing.
HAD THEY BEEN HEALED YET???? NO…
Why tell the to do this?
Just a simple test of faith… do you believe in what God is telling you to do?
On they way… came the healing.
Once the other 9 got what they wanted they were done with God.
But one.. came back and with a loud voice glorified God. He came back to worship Jesus.
This brings the ultimate restoration.
This dude was a samaritan… a mixed breed, looked down on, despised. He was an outsider.

How do you live a life of faith?
Its so easy when things are going right… but when things are going wrong… that is when you need to understand how to truly LIVE in faith.
So I gots the COVID. NOW WHAT?
Oh my haters gonna hate. I have said all along, I don’t care if you get a vaccine, wear a mask, take a pill, quarantine what have you. Do it- you be you in light of your faith.
I choose no vaccine, no mask etc… and i got it… bo hoo… it serves you right Garth Heckman! Im actaully glad I got it, now my immunity can kick in.
First off let me just say “I knew I was probably going to get it because I refuse to stay away from people who have it. I am going to love them, and be there for them…. Yeah, I am probably going to get it. SO now what?
Well now is when faith really kicks in. I am taking vitamin D, and C which I always take. and I am going to take a quick course of ivermectin etc…
But what about faith? Oh I got it…
Why would you take ivermectin and not taken the shot. Sounds like a lack of faith….
oh no my friend just the opposite.
The vaccine is pushed by fear, masks are pushed by fear - as a follower of Christ I chose to live outside the box of fear. I can easily take ivermectin in faith and do the same in using toothpaste.
What I realize in life - and this will piss a lot of people off: When I don’t choose to live my life according to others “level of faith” they judge. But those people really aren’t living by faith to begin with. They are simply using their christianity to validate why I should live like them.
A very good friend of mine just had a baby and they knew it was going to be still born. They told the hospital staff they wanted to keep the child for one day to pray and expect God to raise the child up. For one day/24 hours straight the Mother and father and family prayed to see the child raised up. It did not happen. That was there faith level…. there will be critics. My faith level will have critics… but typically by those who do not have any real faith at all.
What is faith? It is choosing to life in the supernatural in the invisible… choosing to live His desires, his word his mission:
- Submit yourself to God. — A heart that is fully submitted to God is difficult to lead astray. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (Jas. 4:7).
I saw a great meme the other day. It said unless you have never spoken to a weight, then you have never truly lifted heavy.
If you have never in the middle of a life or death struggle spoken out loud to it… you have never fully submitted your life (problems, sicknesses, hurts pains) to the Father.
- Seek God with your whole heart. — “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:7). That is a promise!
Seek God with your whole heart.
His ways, his word, his expectations, his promise, his desires… in the middle of a life that is erupting… that is the true picture of faith. Again, its easy to seek when life is going well.
- Get your own fleshly desires out of the way. — If you’re submitted to and seeking God, this one pretty much will take care of itself. “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit” (Rom. 8:5).
Nothing ruins faith faster than the flesh! Stay out of the flesh….
here is a secret “satan uses well intentioned Christian” to sew flesh into your mindset.
*here is how I deal with unsolicited advice: Has this person ever moved in the supernatural and laid hands on someone and seen them healed? If not, then their ability to walk in and understand the supernatural level of faith nullifies their advice.

It would be easy to ask which is harder… a soldier, an athlete or a farmer… to many variables really. But what if we asked a different question… which is more rewarding… that’ll make you think.
2 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Bill Fong
Aside from bowling, Bill Fong hasn’t had a lot of success in life. His Chinese mother demanded perfection, but he was a C student. He never finished college, he divorced young, and he never made a lot of money. By his own account, his parents didn’t like him much. As a bowler, his average in the high 230s means he’s probably better than anyone you know. But he’s still only tied as the 15th best bowler in Plano’s most competitive league. Almost nothing in life has gone according to plan.
He likes to say he got his approach to bowling from the hard-hitting alleys in his native Chicago, where he went to high school with Michelle Obama. He was one of the few kids from Chinatown interested in bowling at the time. Despite his strict mother and the fact that his friends were all on the honor roll, little William preferred sports. He dreamed of being a professional athlete one day. He wasn’t big—too short for basketball, too slender for football—but he’d run up and down the block as a boy, racing imaginary friends.
When Fong was young, his parents divorced. He remembers the man who would become his stepdad taking his mom out on dates to a local bowling alley, where they could bring the kids. He noticed that when he was bowling, he wasn’t thinking about whatever was going on behind him. His mind could focus on the ball, the lane, the pins—and the rest of the world would disappear. He had never been captivated by anything like that.
In high school he read book after book on bowling… he studied it and began to get better than most. But when he got married his wife said “grow up” and get a real job. So he quit golf, started cutting hair and took ten years to master golf… he didn’t master it. After 10 years he quit it…
He decided bowling was a comfort to him so he started going to the lanes a few times a week and started back up where he left off pretty quickly… Now he was still an above average bowler… but not the king by any means… until that one night in January 2010.
He rolled his first 6 frames… all strikes… not totally unusual for him… it had happened many times…
He finished out that game a perfect 300. He started his second game… now there is something you should know about bowling the best of the best are measured by bowling 3 games of 300. That makes you world famous…
So his second game he had a few close calls… but they all fell and it was his second 300 game. As he started his 3rd game he thought he felt the pressure building. He was sweating, tightness in his chest, a little short bursts of panic… but he held the course… the last 6 frames the whole bowling alley came to stand and watch. with each strike close to his 300 they went wild… until his final frame. Bill thought this is it, this is what will change my life… I can start a pro tour, I can get some sponsors, I will now be esteemed and admired, I will prove my parents wrong…
And he let that last ball fly down the lane… It looked absolutely perfect just like every other throw… the pins exploded and everyone froze as they watched the #10 pin wobble, wobble and then regain its balance and stay standing… total silence. Fong literally collapsed only to be held by some of his friends…
He went home, feeling drained, nauseas and numb… he threw up in the bathroom and felt the room spinning…he realized he was having a stroke.
Rushed to the hospital and after tests and heart surgery the doctor told Bill that if he had thrown a strike on that last frame he surely would have died from the adrenaline that would have hit him… and in fact the miss and the dramatic drop in energy and heartbreak kept him from dying.
What was meant for bad actually saved his life.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28 (NIV)
The Living Bible translation words it this way: “And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans.”
First, He works for “the good of those who love Him.” If you love God, you can trust that He is working for your good.
But what does Good mean? Good throughout scripture implies completion. So he is not working just on OUR good… my good might be a bigger house, a faster car more money a vacation in the hamptons…
But God is working for us to be completed in him. That we are complete in his work, his call his mission and his power and faith.
Second, He works for “those who are called according to His purpose.” Here is a thought… you do realize that following God entails submitting to His purpose for you? You have been called by Him for a purpose that He holds for your life.
these two qualifiers–loving God and experiencing His call–are actually one thought, one action. Those who love God are called according to His purpose.
Being called according to God’s purpose also reminds us what “our good” actually is. It’s not our comfort or worldly success. It’s the furthering of His purpose through us.

No matter how “secure” or “successful” I become, I’m always humbled by the fact that nothing is certain or permanent.
Anything could happen — a bad business decision, an unexpected illness, a freak accident, a shocking plot twist — and I might find myself slinging cheap beer in a grungy dive bar, subsisting on Saltine crackers and packets of free ketchup, digging through garbage for a second-hand brassiere. Y’know. Living inside a Dolly Parton song.
Not ideal. But I could survive it. And in a twisted way, my worst case scenario might provide so many gifts — plenty of free time, lack of intense responsibilities, deeper empathy for my fellow human beings, or the inspiration for my next book or project. Who knows?
Once we make peace with the notion of things Not Going As Planned, we can find beauty and bravery in all of The Alternatives.
So, if everything you’re working so diligently to create falls apart — in one horrific tsunami of unthinkable chaos — don’t worry!
Be less dependent on electricity, food from grocery stores, water from your tap, transportation that needs fuel, less dependent on money for survival,

Gods word brings life to dead things. Worst case scenario in our spiritual life is when things die… relationships, finances, health, future plans, jobs,
To know Gods word is to know what to do in every worst case scenario. Isn’t it about time you took his word a little more seriously?

Just because something works does not mean its is healthy - so it is up to you to know the difference.
Something that is real does not make it right - or healthy.
There are hundreds of ways to cope with life…
Drugs, denial, anger and outbursts, hobbies, addictions to shopping, over eating, bullying, overcompensating, running after looks, money, fame, popularity… How do you cope with life?
See the problem is many times these work… for coping. They help us survive… but not necessarily thrive.

Hold up, the first question should be… there are ways that seem right? Like I think they work? They are legit and helpful… but are not actually right?
And I can be fooled by it? I can actually think it is right?
Then I better be willing and wise enough to check my ways!
Look you can force and coerce and manipulate and guilt trip your wife and kids into a lot of things… and it will work… but is it best.
Lets get real life here should we??? Men like to guilt trip their wives into submitting in the bed room… like it is their right to do so. But in the end it is so much more rewarding when you are the type of husband that loves his wife and she chooses to submit and serve you.
It looked good… seemed right… but ahhhh whoops!

Why? They know how to assess good decisions vs. bad decisions and they are disciplined to do so. They don’t care if it works… short term - they are looking long term.
What is Gods long term plan for you? Maybe you should ask him and then look at what you are doing to see if it will ultimately line up to where ehe wants you… and of course give him the exclusive rights to interrupt your life and do whatever he thinks is best…even if it does’t seem to work at first!
