What put into your mind will feed it to make it stronger… rather than dependent or weak, or poisoned?
A man sees a beautiful woman at a very high and uppity restaurant… he notices she has no wedding ring on. He starts with small talk and then asks her “Ma’m would you sleep with me for a million dollars… she smiles and says It would be my pleasure… he then quickly asks… would you sleep with me for a $100. She turns on him and says “what type of woman do you think I am”. He looks at her and says “ma’m the type of woman you are has already been established… I’m just trying to know your price”.
Men, a little bad thought is as bad as a big bad thought. They will both cost you.
Have you already compromised your mindset with the little things.

William Struthers who wrote the book wired for intimacy (I believe he is a neuroscientist) said unlike our digestion that eats good and crappy food, takes the good and as best it can get rid of the waste (meaning the poop, excrement) Our mind does not do that. We take in the crap, we think the crap and it stays with us. The only way to stop it is to train our minds to not think of the crap and EVEN BETTER YET - don’t feed ourselves poor thoughts, porn, violence, greed etc…
I think it was Ralph Waldo Emerson who said Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. i.e. keep putting garbage in and you will always get garbage out… and it’s the little things -not the gigantic things.

I saw a video a few years back of a man who lived I believe in Florida and had a crick with a swamp tied to it. He was taking videos from the start of a little alligator that he would feed. He would slap the water with a piece of meat and it would swim up to get it… over time this little alligator became a monster… Now I don’t know if the man is still alive, but what if that alligator was a small little dirty thought….
Or lets flip it… what if that was a beautiful faithful thought… either way what you feed grows!

Life is pretty simple really, you either choose to enjoy it or you don’t… it has nothing to do with circumstances. One of the things I remember most about all my time in the hospital battling a few different cancers was hearing kids laugh… kids who were dying of cancer. They knew it, but it didn’t change their outlook to enjoy each day as it came.
Worked for one of the richest men in the world at the time….

The Overcomers mindset think of the story you can tell. Whether it’s victorious or of a failure. Think of it as a challenge that makes you smarter or stronger. Tell the story of the man who is to push the rock!
Think of a challenge as a way to meet someone new who can help you overcome it. It’s really about networking
Challenge to look at opportunities the same way as challenges or problems. Blockbuster could’ve bought Netflix for a few million dollars but they didn’t see it as a problem or obstacle in their future.
Understand you have 2 brains at work… or should I say 2 mindsets. One is unengaged and is just autopilot. It will think what you have always thought and do what you have always done… it will seem familiar… like failure, doubt, fear, apprehension, heavy hoping… this is the accepted mindset we have grown up with.
But we need to actively switch to the engaged mindset where I tell myself what to think and what to do and what to expect and what to expect when what I expect doesn’t happen. I am engaged in Gods word and make Gods word my default, I MAKE IT MY DEFAULT… I don’t let my feelings have a say… I choose, I make the decision - not circumstances, people, upbringing, health, finances etc….

What matters isn’t what a person has or does not have, it is what he or she is afraid of losing.
He goes on to say the more a person has to lose the more fragile they are.
Oh people can hide it with over confidence, arrogance, but thats a whole other topic.
But maybe he is on to something… I remember another author (author of life) who said
He who loses his life for me will find it…
Matthew 16
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
Peter was afraid of what he would lose… that is if he lost Jesus he would lose his place of authority when Jesus over threw the government or set up a dynasty or whatever grand plan Peter was thinking…. if he lost Jesus, he lost his future.
Jesus says something remarkable here… we typically miss it because we simply apply this verse to ourselves. Jesus said “he who wants to save their life will lose it… And we miss the point that Jesus within the next few days actually lives this out. He loses his life, he gives it up for the sake of Gods greater plan.
And then Jesus says “what good is it if you gain the whole world… i.e. you don’t lose anything, but only gain everything - but don’t lose your life to jesus- it means nothing.
If that doesn’t hit you what about this that ties the final bow on it. If you give up your life for Christ you then have the ability to do what Christ has called you to do and you get rewarded for it in Heaven. So if you don’t give up your life… well then you won’t be able to have room to do what he wants you to do and you will have very little in heaven.
My youngest son when he was 4 had a wood cigar box that had all sorts of worthless items in it. Broken toy pieces, a few pennies and a nickel, a little chain, a toy robot that was bent in half… you get the picture. So for Christmas I needed a box to put one of his gifts in. So I took that and emptied it out- never truly thought he would miss a small pile of crap BUT HE DID. I had to convince him that Daddy needed that box and needed it empty so that he could give him something better… it took a little convincing but he finally rested on that and couldn’t wait until Christmas.
You know the more crap you hang onto in your life, the less God can do in you and through you… its not even really a sin issue, but more of a space issue. You just don’t have enough bandwidth left in your life for God to do things… you are using it all for yourself.
I was training a client last week who is a recovering alcoholic. She said something I had never heard, but it hit me hard. She said “for years I fought for the right to hang on to one thing… my drinking. And it kept me from having everything I wanted in life. Now I have chosen to give up that one thing and I can experience all that I have wanted in life”.
You can chose to fight over keeping your life… God is a gentlemen- he won’t fight you for it. But in return all you get at the end of your life - is your life… and thats just not a very wise return.

Ecc. 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment, and the day of death than the day of birth.
The Best things in life take time… Let say that again. The best things about a person in life take time. I love a man of integrity, character and loyalty. But those take time. Your reputation is built on these things, but you don’t get a reputation in a few months… it takes years… and in time with a good reputation you get character… in more time you get integrity and then finally loyalty - i.e. you are seen as having it and others also offer it to you as well.
Lets dumb this down for a second and make it real. What if I said I am starting a new online business where I am selling antiques. You begin to ask me questions… like one fundamental question: Where are you getting said antiques? I explain to you… I am making them in my garage.
There are some fundamental breakdowns here… first an antique and the value it contains is built on the fact that it is old, it has years behind it. It has stood the test of time. I guess I could make an antique if I was to finish making it and then hide it away for 100 plus years… Secondly, it must be in good shape… look I have a few antiques but they are falling a part, crappy no one will give me much. Calling something an antique - even if it is - does not mean it has value. unless it is in good shape
Finally, Even if its old, even if its in good shape the real value comes from who it used to belong to. I can sell an antique pair of reading glasses and I am sure I could fetch a pretty good price in value. But if they are glasses that belonged to Benjamin Franklin who actually invented glasses… well now we are talking about a whole other level of value.
Look you want integrity? Character? Loyalty? a Great reputation?
Understand it takes years, it must be in good shape from great decisions and finally it must be from someone who has led a valuable life (i.e. you lived for Christ)
In todays world we have confused heroes and superstars and rock stars and movie stars with people of character… These are horrible role models. A great role model is one who can teach you how to have a great reputation because they have years under their belt building a great reputation… In todays world it is not enough to just get amped up and excited by someone… you must have someone who can mentor you from a Godly reputation.
