Think of all the things in the world today that are built specifically on the basis of speed, pain free, easy… but what really means is we lack patience, peace and joy.
John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. 28 Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. 29 I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe.
30 “I don’t have much more time to talk to you, because the ruler of this world approaches. He has no power over me, 31 but I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father.
So don’t be troubled or afraid.
but I will come back to you again. - This is speaking of the Holy Spirit. Not just his few appearances after his resurrection.
He has no power over me, - Jesus was God who laid down his humanity and lived life on the earth by the power of the Holy Spirit. Proving to us that we also may live without fear, through the power of his Holy Spirit and not worry about what or where the world is headed.
When Christ is in us, satan has no power over us. Oh don’t get me wrong we live in a sinful world and there is sickness and disease and greed and pain and problems… but they have no power over us. What do I mean? They have no affect on my belief or walk in Christ.
Oh I may have sickness… I have had 3 cancers a brain tumor, a broken neck, paralysis and more… but that has no power over my mindset, my spirit, my effectiveness in my walk with Christ, it has no affect on my faith and ability to live and walk in victory over those things. My God does not lie… I may not see the break through I want to see, I may die of cancer or I may have pain or problems… but they have no power over me… when I die, I live forever. In my pain God carries me, in my sickeness God heals me, in my problems God never leaves me… They are powerless to affect my walk, my relationship with God.
What does God say… they will not affect my peace!

Lets talk about success, excellence and potential.
The human body has so much potential…
If all the muscles in the body combined to lift an object, it could lift something over a ton.
Over the last 100 years we have gotten faster beyond our wildest imaginations in running, swimming, jumping..
we have also gotten fatter. The heaviest we can get is 1400 pounds.
The human eye can detect over one million colors.
Our minds are beyond the capabilities of most of our own rationalizations. We can remember over 1 million gigabytes. We truly have not capitalized on our potential in most areas of our life.
But how do we maximize our potential.
and to be honest this has always been a deep desire of mine. I want to reach my potential in physical, mental and spiritual abilities… what a horrible thought to get to heaven and realize I was capable of so much more.
What is success… well as soon as you ask that question the problem arises of simply “what is success” Right? I mean what is success to me may not be what you view as success…
So what is success… now you may not agree with me, but thats the point behind this definition of success. Ok here we go: Success is measuring yourself against other people.
Now you say, but I can measure myself against losers and seem like a success. - YEP! AND you can measure yourself against the elite in any area and feel like a loser. So it is up to you to understand that success is not the point.
*all this to tell me that? - you bet.
Because here is where we are going.
Excellence is measuring yourself against your potential. Excellence over success, moves you closer to your potential.
If I simply try to do things the best I can… not perfection, we are not shooting for perfection (that is a lose lose situation) but rather working towards excellence… getting better and better… that is the catalyst - the engine if you will to tapping our potential.
I love what Jim Rohn said years ago… why make a million dollars? Because of what it will make out of you as you try to make a million dollars.
When God looks at you what does he see?
you probably think disappointment or sin or judgement or disapproval - but I think scripture points to the fact that he sees potential.
Genesis 1:26 in the Amplified Bible which says:
“Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority. . .”
The Living Bible in Genesis 1:26 says:
“Then God said, `Let us make a man—someone like ourselves, to be the master of all life upon the earth and in the skies and in the seas.”
Now thats potential!

I just recently heard someone say Leadership is overrated… in fact they said the world needs more followers. While I understand this point, I would fight over the opinion that everyone needs to be a leader.
2 Samuel 11 famous story… David is supposed to be out in battle but instead stays home… goes out at night and from his deck sees a woman bathing…
And she’s wet, and soapy and curvy and voluptuous and drop dead beautiful… the sun is setting and the light from her lamp is glimmering off of her skin…
Garth - why so much detail. Well this is what satan does… right? he blinds our invisible and supernatural senses with the physical and tangible senses.
So much to be said.
Bathsheba… knew what was going on
She did not put up a fight
She followed Davids lead
She set the bait…
But….
David acts impulsively…

nope it wasn’t that he sent for Bathsheba - it’s that he wasn’t where he was supposed to be. He was supposed to be out in battle leading his men.
From that one decision… and what was that decision?
Choosing not to lead…
His whole life and legacy take a dive.
He gets called on the carpet… by the prophet Nathan
And look you know people talk right?
David was from that point on known as
“that guy”… or “that king”
Prov. 5:8 Stay away from her!

Look they didn’t just talk about David messing up, they talked about how David got Bathsheba’s husband murdered… and he knocked her up and now how his family is falling apart.
From what? Not leading!
Nathan tells David a story and says a rich guy who has everything has some guests stop by and instead of taking one of his own sheep and butchering it for the guests, he takes the one sheep the poor old guy down the block has… David is ticked…
5 David was furious. “As surely as the Lord lives,” he vowed, “any man who would do such a thing deserves to die! 6 He must repay four lambs to the poor man
Hey hold on… why do you think David is so mad…
Same reason you get mad at things… guilt.
We overcompensate for areas we are ourselves guilty… trying to prove our righteousness by our anger…

Luke 7:11 Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him. 12 A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. 14 Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.” 15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 Great fear swept the crowd, and they praised God, saying, “A mighty prophet has risen among us,” and “God has visited his people today.” 17 And the news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding countryside.
He touched the coffin not the boy…
Some would say Jesus did not touch the dead body because it was against the law and he would make himself unclean… but many times he did do just that when healing others and even touching the lepers.
What he was doing was showing us…
- there is no magic formula if you walk in the supernatural and not the natural.
- You may do things in your spiritual walk that seem absurd to some… but not to you.
Fear will rise up in those who do not share your spiritual insight.
You will be misunderstood and you must be willing to be the weird guy.
When you study the great men of faith you realize that many people did not like them.
Even today some of the men of faith we see and know are disliked and misunderstood.
Some characteristics that Jesus had they we may over look.
He was misunderstood
he was disliked
People tried to kill him
He was lied about
He was gossiped about
People got his message wrong
His followers were fickle
Maybe these are the marks of a true disciple more than healing people, or some great ministry… just maybe you are doing it wrong.

INSIGHT
Faith makes us aware that we are surrounded by an invisible spiritual kingdom and that which is seen is not the whole explanation of life.
There are realities which cannot be
seen,
weighed,
measured,
analyzed
touched,
and yet they are as real and vital as anything we can see, smell taste or touch.
In fact, they are more real because they are the explanation of the things which can be seen.
The spiritual world is more real than the physical world about us, and we can only enter into it through faith.
BACKGROUND: KING ARAM IS TICKED… HE MAKES PLANS TO WAR AGAINST ISRAEL AND THEY KEEP LEARNING OF HIS PLANS AND DEFEATING HIM…
In 2 Kings 6:12-17 Elisha and his attendant were surrounded by the armies of the King of Syria. When the attendant saw the armies, he panicked and said, “What shall we do?” Elisha, knowing the power of the spiritual kingdom, prayed that the Lord would open the attendant’s eyes to see realities of the unseen world. God opened his eyes and by faith he saw the mountains full of chariots of fire, indicating that God had sent his angelic hosts to protect Elisha and his attendant.
WHO’S EYES WERE OPEN?
Not Elisha’s… he didn’t need to have his eyes open… he understood the faith world, the unseen world, the supernatural… but for the sake of his attendant…
What am I trying to say in this sermon… faith is not a tool we use as many sermons imply… you can use it as a tool. But faith is a lifestyle to living in the supernatural.
Only faith can give us conviction of the spiritual world. “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Heb. 11:6).
Please God = (it doesn’t mean make him happy by what you do…. but rather are you doing/living in the manner by which makes him happy.
i.e. in the natural we can do a lot of things that seem good, religious even. But if they are not by faith (within the realm of the unseen) we are not pleasing him.
Here is an example:
CFNI couple came on a Sunday chapel… they looked hokey. They felt called to work with the vagrants, derelicts, drug users, prostitutes. They sing and then preach. The teacher running chapel that day asked them to sing. They did… it was horrible and it was amazing. The Holy Spirit crushed the place. You could tell that they were so broken over those lost and going to hell… But what amazed me was afterward a girl named Renee came up to our group of friends and said “can you believe they let that couple sing?”. It was well known that Renee wanted nothing more than to be the next Amy Grant…
I WAS FLOORED AT HOW SHE COULD MISS THAT MOMENT!
SHE WAS STUCK IN THE NATURAL, IN THE VISIBLE WORLD!
What is faith…. READY!
IT IS SIMPLY CHOOSING TO LIVE IN THE UNSEEN AND THE SUPERNATURAL WORLD.
I CHOOSE TO UNDERSTAND MY LIFE, MY CIRCUMSTANCES, MY PROBLEMS, MY VICTORIES IN THE UNSEEN SUPERNATURAL WORLD.

HEBREWS 1:1 11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for…

Our faith has a foundation on who God is. OUR HOPE IS IN WHO GOD IS

*You have hope and it makes up what faith is
You better have the right substance…
its not how much faith (mustard seed) you have, its the substance of hope.
- * Think of it like this - as that kid waiting on that rollercoaster… back up a few months. Someone told me about that Rollercoaster. I had no social media, no internet, no books or brochures on this… no commercials because I was out of state. I HAD TO TAKE SOMEONE AT HIS WORD. I HAD FAITH.
- HOPE WAS WAITING IN THAT LINE.
By faith we are sure of eternal things; by hope we are confident that we shall have them
or…
faith makes us sure of the things we hope for, and that assurance is itself proof of these things.
But remember Gods word is active… it is Gods word regardless of wether we believe it or not.
Faith in Gods word does not make it Gods word. Gods word is Gods word.
God said it, I believe it, that settles it…. is wrong. God said it, that settles it.
Feelings don’t have intellect… Does your faith live on hope or feelings? Faith is not a feeling. Have you ever forgotten to take the garbage out and early morning you hear the garbage truck rumbling up the street, one house at a time… You do not feel like getting out of your warm bed, next to your warm wife… but no matter how you feel that truck is coming.
DO I HAVE FAITH?
Eph. 2:8 faith is a gift. We all get a portion of faith… but how we nurture it, how satan might try to steal or poison it.
Mark 9:23 The man brings his boy to Jesus. Jesus says if you believe anything is possible. The man says, I believe, help my unbelief.
The man had enough faith to bring the boy to Jesus
he had enough faith to ask
He had enough faith in Jesus to be honest with him and tell him he had unbelief
JESUS WILL WORK WITH YOU WHERE YOU ARE AT IN YOUR FAITH JOURNEY.

These next few days I am going to challenge everything you have ever thought you knew about faith. But the kicker will come at the end when I fully disclose what faith is… Don’t miss an episode! I promise it will rock your world.
Maybe you have been at a place in your life where you are wondering about your Xn walk… is it worth it, is it just not for me, why does it not work…
Hebrews was written at a time when many Christians were considering abandoning their faith.
Faith is a good thing… I have never heard anyone (wether they have a clear understanding of faith or not) take a stand against it.
If faith moves mountains we better learn how to get faith
If faith heals, pleases God, works miracles… we better learn how to get faith
IF WE ARE SAVED BY FAITH… we better learn how to get faith
INTRO
What faith is not.
- Faith is not positive thinking, but there is a positive element to faith.
- Faith is not a hunch, but one may feel an inclination
- Faith is not simply hoping, but faith expects the best from God.
- Faith is not optimism, but it does make one optimistic. Faith, according to the Bible, is the human response to divine revelation. It is trusting the God who has revealed Himself in Holy Scripture. It is taking God at His word.
Faith is simply acting like God is telling the truth.
HOW IMPORTANT IS FAITH
Rom. 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
Galatians 3:11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”
Heb. 10:38
but my righteous one shall live by faith,
and if he shrinks back,
my soul has no pleasure in him.”
Hebrews 11:6
6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
As the end times become closer Faith will become become
in short order.
Luke 18:8 I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”

Alive - to feel and live the utmost of life.

Speak Gods word into it.
Active - A force with power, it will grow. It may take time to grow… but keep feeding it and speaking it over your life.
There are two specific words that I speak over my life almost everyday
I will never be sick, diseased, infected cancerous feeble weak feverish unhealthy ever again. For by his stripes I am healed.
I will never ask for money again.
PS. 23 The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.
WANT… pretty big word.
God has manifested his word in these two areas in my life continually.
PENETRATES - reaches through anything - any situation
But here is the key to this verse… Gods words have to penetrate… you don’t just repeat them again and again until magic happens. They must be prayed over, prayed upon and take root deep inside your spirit. This again may take time…
You probably have had those moments where you have heard a verse numerous times - but on on certain occasion it penetrates… it has new meaning.

Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end. 2 It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. 4 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.
6 When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7 Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.”
8 “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!”
Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.”
9 Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!”
10 Jesus replied, “A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you disciples are clean, but not all of you.”
Only the lowliest of lowliest servants washed the feet of people. AND THEN USUALLY A WOMAN.
*When Jesus came to be baptized by John the baptist… John said “I am not even worthy to untie your sandals, let alone bathe your feet or baptize you” (John 1:27)

***REMEMBER: in the beginning was the word and the word was God and the word was with God, and things were created by God. v. 14 Jesus is the word.
Jesus is going to wash the disciples feet as the word.
Jesus is the word… the word washes us!
Dust: dust is the dirt you pick up during the day…
You watch a video on your phone, a picture on your phone, you listen to talk radio, you see that woman at the gym
You enter into gossip with other people….
Peter says 2 IMPORTANT THINGS:
You will not wash me-
1 -Jesus says - if I do not wash you, you will not be part of me… you will not have me “with you” beside you.
WASHING IN HIS WORD… IT KEEPS YOU FROM NOT BEING WITH JESUS… Keeps his presence close at hand… keeps him intimate.
2 - Peter says: Then wash all of me:
Jesus says: he who has been washed all over only needs his feet to be washed.
TWO TYPES OF WORDS HERE USED FOR WASH:
One is used for salvation
The other is used for washing by the word
How many times as a kid I went down to accept Christ as my Lord and Savior… wanting that clean feeling again.
I was saved, what I needed was the washing of Gods word.
But then he drys them with the towel/ wipes his feet with the towel… the belt. Righteousness.

The dust:
God told satan you will eat the dust of the earth…
The filth of the earth you will eat….
When you walk around with that filth on you - satan devours you.
But when you are clean - satan starves on you…
