What is my topic for today… well it usually stems from a couple of places, something I have read or something I have meditated on… but this week something just hit me out of nowhere… yeah it was a 315 pound barbell…. and thats where we are going today!
yes, its true this past week I was doing military press and not paying attention. I thought I had racked the weight and let it go (I do my military on the smith press due to limited shoulder mobility) I thought I had racked it over my head… uhm lets just say a big loud NO! So 315lbs comes a crashing down on just my left leg, upper top part of my quad. It sucked! I got up a few minutes later and tried to walk it off… Well a few days later I had a few people look at it. I have torn my Sartorius, my rectus famoris… I more then rectus I killed us… and my MCL. So I am off of lifting legs or racquet ball for about a month to 3 months… seeing how well it heals up. But it got me thinking about farming… GARDENING???
I don’t mind gardening… farming.. not so much. But in the past my wife and I had a really nice garden. We grew all kinds of stuff…. but never a body. I don’t mean we buried bodies… I mean we never planted a body expecting to grow more bodies… but guess what that is exactly what will happen to those of us who are followers of Christ.
ARE YOU STILL LOST? Well when I hurt myself this time (and yes there have been many times) I thought to myself “if I wreck my car I can get a new one, If i break a guitar I can get a new one, If I lose a gun I can get a new one… but my body… man o man.”
But the truth is this- our body is a seed and we do get new ones.
1 Cor. 15:42
It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever.
We don’t know much about our new bodies, we can glean a few things from Christ when he came back with his new body… We are not sure what age we come back as… maybe 33 like Jesus, or maybe at the age we died… now you might say that would suck if you died at 85 and your new body is 85. but you are missing the point. What we do know is that from Christ reappearance he was Whole, healthy, without sickness. He could transport himself anywhere, He was able to walk through walls and make himself undetected to those around him. There will never be a sprain, tear, cancer, zit or bad breath… We are made new.
The other thing we know about sowing and reaping is that we always get more than what we have sewn… a hundred fold or more. So in my body I get more of all that is good… and probably beyond what I can ever imagine and or even comprehend. So today take time to thank God as you look in the mirror at the seed… Thank him for the harvest, the body that will be 100 times better and more!
Lets end on this…
But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.
He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate (Masculine noun for person) to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him (relative pronoun), because it neither sees him(personal pronoun) nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
Any new experience or atmosphere or job is always hard until you understand the language and the culture.
- I go to a different country… gotta know the customs
- A new job… new lingo
- Remember going through the culture curve in marriage men? She says fine…

And what does it mean when a man says he is stressed…
In Christianity unless you understand the environment and the language of the Holy Spirit it will be hard to fully involve yourself in that lifestyle.
So we must learn how to walk in the Spirit of God… Many Christians lack depth or power or meaning in their walk with God because they simply don’t understand the moving of the Holy Spirit… They are unaware of it…
Romans 8
Talks about the Holy Spirit living in us, breathing in us, moving in us and goes on to say that Gods spirit will never leave us… neither height nor depth nor powers or kingdoms, devils, angels, seas, mountains… nothing can separate us from God… so why can’t I sense him and move in him more.
Simple: we have become desensitized - we are no longer looking for his leading.
So a quick step to get back in the groove. Get up every day and ask God to speak to you and then do what he says to do… no matter what it is. And if you fail, you learned - and keep doing it. If you feel like God told you to tell someone something and they don’t understand, just tell them you are trying to hear Gods voice more and be obedient… if nothing else it will probably give you an opportunity to share Christ with them.
He’s here, He’s everywhere, He’s in you… tap into him.

When you see a lion tamer in the cage and he has a lion clawing and snarling as he raises a chair up in his face and cracks the whip… you gotta admire a guy dumb enough to try to defend himself from a lion with just a whip. But things are never the way you see them…
Its not the whip… its the chair. The whip just simply adds excitement to the performance. The crack and snap of the whip and the lion tamer looking distressed… oh my scary. But actually it is the chair that is the weapon (or at least thats the way the lion sees it) The lion sees 4 appendages coming at him… four legs and not knowing which one will strike, they get confused and just fall into somewhat of a trance like state.
I recently saw a movie that robbed the federal reserve of a bunch of Gold. But none of the gold was missing and in fact it seemed like they had failed close to the end of the movie… but in reality it was all a smoke screen… they did in fact steal the gold and no one figured it out until it was too late. The Robbers had explosions, and hostages, victims of abuse and all kinds of diversions… but that was just what they wanted you to focus on… diversions. Like a good magician they create an illusion steering your logical mind away from reality so that you create in your own imagination what you perceive to be reality… and before its to late… boom.
Lets look at reality and then check out the diversion.
Master what is the greatest command…
Luke 10:27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
Hard cold reality. Jesus said the greatest command is to Love God with all your heart, mind and soul. Thats it… simple direct, not confusing, easy to know and work on… Basically read our bibles, pray, seek him and obey
Ahhh but we as Christians have been distracted by politics, policies, border patrol, LGBQT, BLM, Anti gun this and inflation… not to mention wars, oil consumption and coming asteroids.
Now the truth is as Christians we should still find it easy to focus on what really matters i.e. Love God with all we got - and why? Because he already told us all of these things will be coming down the pipe as time gets short here on earth. So I can just focus on the greatest commandment.
But how easily we get distracted from what matters most… Loving Jesus, spending time with him.
Don’t get me wrong, as a follower of Christ I have strong biblical opinions on lots of issues… but I do not let it distract me from what is most important.
Finally, you may not realize it, but distraction is a very powerful way to make us feel like we are involved in life and or keep our minds off of our weaknesses or excuses… don’t fall into either of these traps. In fact recognize if you are walking in either of these realms. If God gave us specifically the greatest command… and its written down, black and white easy to read… then lets do it with all our heart, mind and soul.

How about this: Maintaining a critical spirit towards others is a great way to feel better about yourself.
Fault finding is a great way to make yourself look better than others.
Greed is a great way to look frugal.

I love Proverbs 22:13 which reads “The sluggard says I better not go outside a lion might eat me”.
My bet is if you questioned the sluggard on his logic he would say he was just trying to be safe for the sake of his family… you don’t want to do something stupid.
- But remember - What we tolerate will soon dominate. Do not tolerate anything outside of the will of God. Now Im not saying being overweight is outside the will of God, but the point is… If Your pants get a little tight, but you tolerate it… and guess what, pretty soon you have to buy new pants… bigger waistline- because you tolerated the tightness- you didn’t change the right thing… I’ll say that again you didn’t change the right thing.
- James 5 healthy? sick? Good, bad? Turn to God and PRAY. Don’t make an excuse or let the gremlins it to build a case against taking the appropriate action.
- don’t let your mind build a mindset, personality and persona that makes you an excuse minded man or woman. Immediately go to prayer and to Gods word regarding your situation and deal with the issue. ...isn’t it time you transcended all your usual excuses through prayer.

They used to scoff at the scriptures that said the earth would burn up and even melt in the end times… but they are not laughing now… we have these things called nuclear bombs - enough to blow up the earth 17 times from what I have read.
The psalmist said that the stars all sing a different song to the Lord… and it was thought to be fairytale language. And low and behold every star emits a different musical pitch… They are not laughing now.
And now we have graduated to the worldly wisdom that says you can have a penis and still choose to be a woman. You can be a woman and choose to be a Them or an it. You can choose to be genderless. Oh why of course you can in todays wisdom.
1 Cor. 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[c]
20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
It just doesn’t make sense… I used to challenge kids to take a penny out of their pocket at taco bell and go to the bathroom and scrub it clean. While they were doing that I would take a penny and put it inside a full taco bell hot sauce packet. I would a few minutes later take out the penny and wipe it off with a napkin and it would look almost brand new. Many times Kids would accuse me of replacing the penny with a new one… Then I would challenge them to do it themselves and they would be shocked. Foolishness proved wisdom. In fact some of you today listening are going to do this because you doubt me…. please do and be shocked!
In todays world I don’t try to convince people that Gods ways are better… but I do challenge them to at least try. I mean think about it… you are struggling financially and you can barely make it and I tell you to give some of your money to the church… how much? 10%… thats stupid, foolish and makes no sense… until you try it for a few months.
You tell me that man raped you and abused you and you want to get back at him and I tell you to forgive him (oh most certainly press charges… but still forgive him) and then I tell you to even pray that God blesses him and changes his heart… you scoff- never going to happen… but I challenge you to do the foolish thing and you are amazed at what happens to you, not just him.
I don’t know if you remember back in 2011 the US was looking for some heavy terrorist operatives and were guilty of massive destruction of life and liberty. They were in fact war crime criminals in the highest degree… they US said they had crawled into caves in mountains and were almost impossible to find, let alone the danger to our soldiers not knowing the territory… and lo and behold it started to rain… and rain and rain and they had to come out of the mountains like rats from a sinking ship leading to the arrest and capture of some of the vile men in the world…
How you gonna do it God? I think I will make it rain… silly almost foolish… but effective.
If there are areas in your life that do not line up with scripture.. you are sleeping with your girlfriend, you don’t tithe, you don’t serve, you hold bitterness etc… it is actually just you being a very very wise man… in the worlds eyes… but a complete fool in Gods. So why not step over into the foolishness side of God and watch what real wisdom can do in a persons life.

10 things to know while being used by God
- 6 Just because your current Christian life is growing doesn’t mean you should do more.
I can imagine Jesus used the picture of fruit and gardening so much as examples of our christian walk because they both are so transferable. If you plant a garden in a 200 by 300 foot plot of soil, water it, fertilize it, weed it and it becomes lush and fruitful… why not plant even more in it - right? I think we can see how absurd that would be. The ground (that being a 200 by 300 foot plot) can only hold so much activity and nutrients to provide the ability for optimum growth. Your life is much the same… you are growing leaps and bounds as a follower of Christ… you go Sunday to church. You are involved in a Tuesday mens bible study and you serve 2 weekends at church helping feed the poor. You actively are sharing Christ with those around you and your personal discipleship time is spot on… and it shows in your life.
So do you do more? The easy answer is pray about it… but in this scenario I would most likely say No, you have found your sweet spot and if you do add more or less it should be under direct supervision of the Holy spirits leading.
- 7 Just because your current Christian life is NOT growing doesn’t mean you should do more.
Now you say wait what? Garth you just said if it is growing don’t add more… but if its not growing… uhm… you still don’t add more?
Well I would do two things… one is check what you are doing. Here is an example… you are going to a bible study, but you and I know very little bible is studied. You talk a lot, you read very little, guys love to just chatter and no one in the group has a deep intense relationship with God. So just eliminate it and find a new one. Don’t add another.
Secondly I would remind you that in regards to planting, there is a waiting period. Sometimes we are doing the right things but it is winter time in our spiritual life and it will take a while to see growth. Pray over and know the difference.
- 8 Perseverance is underrated -
Man oh man this could preach! Just never give up… regardless of the outcome of your life, circumstances, goals, visions, dreams… whatever they are and no matter how much the crash… keep persevering in your walk with God and your desire to be used by him. Here is conviction I have….
satans greatest strategy is patience… we should outlast him!
- 9 Loving people is hard
So you want to minister to people. So yes lets minister to the single mom who is 28 years old, has a child and is sooo appreciative of your time and talent and it makes you feel like a super hero. Or if you are a woman you want to help the young adolescent girl who needs self reassurance and love to see the beauty she has inside her.
Scratch that… those come along rarely. You will be asked to love the person who constantly disagrees with you, simply doesn’t like you and who opposes all your beliefs regarding Christianity… now go love them.
YOu will love people who in turn will gossip about you, turn on you, lie about you, LOVE THEM anyway… thats the truly hard and most rewarding part about ministry.
- 10 Let your kids grow up loved, with a great example…. but let them be normal.
Ok if you don’t have kids apply this to your bone head friends who say they are Christians.
Look if you are a deeply committed Christ follower then you can definitely feel the pressure of wanting your kids to tow the line and be as passionate about Jesus as you. They should not talk back, should not go to parties, should not be attracted to ungodly people, should not dress in that manner… etc.
Love your kids, give them a great example of someone who is crazy about Jesus. Talk to them about everything, and I mean everything and use those awkward conversations to build a trust and a friendship with them. You can disagree and they can still feel loved in the process. Let them be normal, put them first before ministry. It will pay off and beside they are your number one ministry !!!

10 things to know while being used by God
-1 Your character will be tested more than your competency
You don’t need to know how to read a spreadsheet or pass any test per se’ you can be used by God just the way you are… but your character will be tested. Do you want to be used by God more than sleeping with your girlfriend. Do you want to be used by God more than sharing gossip about someone. Do you want to be used by God enough to tithe in hard financial times. Do you want to be used by God more than you want to make up excuses? Do you want to be used by God more than sleeping in and skipping your quiet time.
Its not a skill level - its a will level!
- 2 To be great you must know how to lead people and Leading people is more difficult than learning sign language in mandarin
Here is another secret. you must learn to lead yourself in order to best lead people. But once you get that down, leading people is still hard. But its a must if you want to be used mightily by God. Name one person in scripture who was used by God in mighty ways who didn’t have to lead people. EVEN JESUS who could do anything had to lead people… and it wasn’t easy with the disciples he chose.
- 3 Strategy is as important as mission and vision
Like anyone who writes Goals… who cares until you write out a strategy to do those goals. Goals are just imaginary wish tales from fairyland unless they have actual steps in place to get them done.
If you don’t know how to implement a strategy you will fall into the trap of continually changing the vision, mission, purpose or smoother buzz word… but if you can implement a strategy you will get a lot done in the kingdom of God regardless of what you call it.
- 4 You will be tempted to cheat on your family because you love God
I worked for an evangelist who was known through out North America and parts of the world. He spoke to millions, he recorded dozens of albums, he led millions to Christ and his family is a farce. None are truly living for God and even more insightful is that none of his kids get along with each other. Truly disastrous…. but he would tell you right up front that ministry was more important than family… and to him it was… unfortunately his family paid the price and is still paying the price.
My Dad used to say “if Jesus already died for my family… why should I crucify them again over ministry”.
- 5 Mentors are not optional
You cannot grow without mentors, accountability partners and leaders in your own life. Find those who are more spiritual than you, more biblical than you, smarter than you, more like Jesus than you, more on fire than you and more in tune with his spirit and gifts than you and soak up what they got.
You know a world class athlete has had up to 15 different coaches in their life to get them to that level. Coaches on nutrition, speed, agility, weight training, coaching for their position, their sport and for the mental aspect of the game. AND THATS JUST SPORTS… we are in the game of spiritual warfare - take it seriously and get a mentor, coach, partner!

In the movie 3 O’clock high we see a perfect blend of anxiety, peer pressure, intimidation and young love to make it a fun movie for you to watch with your kids… but today we are talking about just one simple line in the move that steals the show!
The movie is truly a classic. the young Jerry gets in trouble with the bully Buddy and he tries everything to get out of fighting him… nothing works and finally he pays off the bully…thinking he has now solved all his problems… but wait, you quickly realize in this scene that the fight was not the real problem… the real problem was the FEAR of fighting. Once Jerry pays off Buddy, Buddy snaps at him with disdain and says “You’re the biggest pussy I ever met in my life,” says Buddy. “You didn’t even try. How does that feel?”
It actually shakes Jerry to the core and he tells Buddy the fight is back on… If you want to know what happens I suggest you rent the movie. Its worth it.
Hey I am not here to brag. I have been in my fair share of fights… but there is one day I backed down from a fight and honestly it still haunts me more than any of the beatings I took in the other scrapes. I wish to this day I could go back and step up to that guy and go at it.
I didn’t even try… the worse feeling in the world might be just those words uttered as we are in heaven and Jesus looks at us and says “you didn’t even try!
Rev. 21:18 the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Oh wait a second I forgot the first part of the verse… The cowardly and the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
And this is Jesus stating basically “you didn’t even try”… you coward.
Remember what we talked about a few days ago…
2 tim. 1:7 For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power
So how does one step from being a coward and fearful in their walk with God to being filled with his power? Well Fear leaves when action starts.
You are afraid to witness? Then witness and watch the fear leave
You are afraid to pray for someone? Then pray and watch the fear leave.
You are afraid to speak out in faith? Then speak out in faith and watch the fear leave.
Its simply this… when we allow the Holy Spirit to take over we get out of the way. He’s not afraid, he is not fearful, he does not coward… and he is in us. He flows with his boldness in us.

What is the perfect spot on earth to spend the rest of your life? I could quickly answer either a guitar shop or a gun shop or even cabin in the woods… but Scripture has something else to say about what the perfect earth looks like.
Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
What is the perfect spot on earth? About 15 years ago my wife and I had a vacation off of an island and it was absolutely stunning. White beaches, blue ocean water, I had a couple of ice cold non alcoholic beverages listening to Van Halen with some great books, it was 90 degrees out, a private beach just for Kim and myself, and it didn’t hurt that my wife was in a stunning white 2 piece bikini and look smoking hot… that night we went out for fresh seafood and listened to a great blues band and later had some of the best ice cream imaginable… It was a slice of heaven as they say.
But honestly, thats not even close to what heaven is like, it’s almost incomparable.
Reading today verse 10 in the Lords prayer he says Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So God clearly wants us to have heaven on earth… but is it white beaches and a woman in a bikini? Nope, not even if its my wife in a bikini LOL
Heaven on earth is simply 2 things:
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
What exactly does that mean… lets be honest we should probably know if we are going to pray it… right?
Your kingdom come… it means Gods way of doing things. In certain countries things are done certain ways… we drive on the right side of the road in the USA… but that is not the way they do things in Europe. Each country - each Kingdom has their own way of doing things.
we are called to pray that Gods kingdom ways are done on earth.
How are relationships handled in Gods kingdom? What are Gods standards? What are his laws and rules and what are his expectations in his kingdom? Then we should want those on earth…
Have you ever prayed over an area in your life and asked God to establish his kingdom in that area of your life here on earth? Its quite profound actually. You are not asking for your answer, your goals or dreams to be met… but rather Gods ways to be brought into that situation.
Secondly it says heaven on earth is Gods will gets done. I laugh when people say “well I’m sick because its Gods will, and he is teaching me through this and I can be an example to others” REALLY? Is that how it works in heaven? Gods will in heaven is that we get sick or have financial problems or we have bitterness or hate towards others… NOPE. Gods will on earth as it is in heaven means - it aint happening skippy. If you don’t see it in the will of God in heaven then it has no place in your life here on earth.
SO WE PRAY!
It does not mean that my life is perfect like it would be in heaven, but it does open the door that I can pray and believe and push it more in that realm. I refuse to accept the worlds will, sins will, satans plans or even my own mindset… I will pray for Gods will and his ways to be done on earth in my life. Why is this such a powerful concept?
BECAUSE IT’S GOD WHO TELLS US TO PRAY THIS WAY.
its not some fanatical hyper faith preacher- name it and claim it, blab it and grab it, speak it and keep it,
Its THEEE SON OF GOD - Jesus himself who says believe it, pray it and expect it.

Psalm 108:1 My heart, O God, is steadfast;
I will sing and make music with all my soul.
My heart is steadfast… Hebrew = my heart is fixed. It will not be moved, this is central to my being. It’s who I am… this is me. I got to do this because its not just in me… its actually me. My heart only operates in one way… it is a praise producer, it is a praise supplier, it is a praise machine for God.
I will praise God at all times, in all things, for any reason, during any season, bad, good, bland, confusing… whatever the time. I will praise him.
I will make music and I will brag on all the good things during all these other times.
Get it? When its good I will praise him, when its bad I will praise him, when its ok, bland, hard, easy, taxing, tiring, when it gets old, when I don’t know what to do, when I win the lottery or when I lose my spouse… IM SET, I WILL PRAISE HIM. PERIOD.
Blendtek videos… no matter what you put in them its all going to come out in a million pieces. I love these videos, you can literally watch them for hours…they blend the star wars toys, markers and the justin beiber DVD, toy and book set… every thing comes out in pieces….
This should be the picture of our heart. No matter what happens in our life, our heart turns it into praise.
But catch this… This psalm has the majority of it about all of Gods good things. Look I get it, we often hear things about praising God when its tough, yep we are- but we often forget to praise him in the good times as well. It’s like this for many of us - we question God in the bad times, we cry out to him etc… or we thank God for the good times and quickly move on… but this Psalm is saying in the good times don’t just thank him, but praise him.
You know I have found that it comes across weird to many people when I thank god and praise him in the bad times… but it is even more confusing to some people when I praise him during the good times. They almost half expect me to take credit or to simply say thanks and move on. But I praise him… I take days praising him in my words, in my social media posts, in my day to day conversations… to anyone who will listen I praise him for the Good stuff…
Why? because thats where my heart is!
Take time this week to set your heart in place for praise.
