Why
They have found clarity in just simply asking these 4 questions. How much more simple and rewarding life would be if we just sought out the truth.

Psalm 56
We see in 1 Sam. 21 David had some great victories, a quick rise to fame, he built a fan base… now The King who once befriended him is trying to kill him, he is alone, on the run and ends up in the hands of his true enemies the Philistines.
Here in Psalm 56 he shares his heart, his hurts, his fears, his worries… but then in the middle of this he says this:
This I know: God is on my side!
Look its one thing to say this on a sunny day, stocks are up, driving a new car, marriage is rocking the bed regularly and you are healthy…
But this is one of those great divine set ups we see in scripture…. things are horrible… but - BOOM!
That David teaches us something through.
Even when its bad… God is good… he is on our side.
How did he build this confidence?
Here are 3 things from his life…
- He was faithful in the small things: Watching sheep, fighting off bears and lions…
Its not enough that others look at us and see that we are faithful in the small things… it is imperative that we ourselves can see ourselves as faithful.
Our own self doubt is fed by haphazard living…
commit and get it done!
You might say… but a bear and a lion don’t seem like small things.
See this is the secret we miss: They are not small at the time… but when you are standing in front of Goliath who is 8 feet tall, 450 pounds is waving a spear that weighs 70lbs oh… and his army is behind him screaming war cries… you at that point realize Lions and tigers and bears were small things…
Be faithful in the small things.
- 2 He looked back on past victories.
When he took on Goliath he pointed out to his brothers and the King his past victories…
Again, lets look at the secret we might miss here… he is really looking back on Gods victories that he gave David.
I face something big, I build my confidence by looking at what God has gotten me through in the past
Cancer, bad marriage, financial ruin, family relationships…
Now when things are bad I can walk in confidence because of seeing the past victories.
- 3 he was himself
you want to feel a lack of confidence that is overwhelming? Try to be someone you are not. Try to be your brother, your Dad, your neighbor, the cool guy at work etc…
When David faced Goliath the King wanted him to put on his armor… but David tried it on and realized… this is not me!
It may have looked impressive and even held some type of authority to it as far as what others saw… but it slowed him down… that’ll kill your confidence.
Im not the best teacher… but Im me
I am not the best husband… but Im me
I am not the best guitar player or singer… but I’m me
I am not the best graphic artist, but I am me
Im not the best at memorizing scripture… but I am me
Confidence
Many people we know are hurt terribly by little things we call “social slights.” It is a well known psychological fact that the people who become offended the easiest have the lowest self-esteem. It is the person who feels undeserving, doubts his own capabilities, and has a poor opinion of himself who becomes jealous at the drop of a hat. Jealousy, which is the scourge of many marriages, is nearly always caused by self-doubt. The person with adequate self-esteem doesn’t feel hostile toward others, isn’t out to prove anything, can see the facts more clearly, and isn’t demanding in his claims on other people.

INTELLIGENCE
Intelligence is not Enough!
Most people have an IQ in the 90 - 109 range. You're considered a genius if your IQ is 132 or above. Chris Langan has an IQ of 195, the highest known IQ in the US. He started talking at 6 months and by age 4 could read and comprehend books. His IQ puts him in the same class as Sir Isaac Newton and Michelangelo. He's in his mid-forties, and he works as a part-time bouncer at a bar and lives in a one-room house on $6,000 a year.
— 4 Make priorities a priority!
there is a glut of smart people who run around and do lots of stuff but with no direction or priority.
It is like the guy who knows how to invest, he studies the tables, charts, the market the overseas yen and euro and watches the tech market… studying the new insights and break throughs… and never sets a priority to invest. The best investors do not invest the most, or make the best choices…the best investors make it a priority to invest on a regular basis. You may know it all, but unless you know how to set priorities to get things done and a time line to get things done… you will fail. One of the greatest pick items I got from 7 habits of highly successful people is writing down the roles I play in my life, and then right down goals, to dos and priorities to get them done.
There will always be things to do
There will always be important and less important
But there will always be the same amount of time for everyone AND…
There will always be those who know what is most important and know how to set a date on a given timeline to get it done.
- 5 Bad attitude, arrogant, complainers pessimistic… you missed it!
There are some people in scripture who are not named by name, they are not named by nationality, they are not named by male or female… there name is simply Murmur’s and why? because they are murmurs! That is what they do… you know what else they are not called? Successful!
THIS IS THE… the only disease that makes everyone around you sick except the one who has it.
There is an old saying that goes like this “some people are so full of what is right, they can’t see what is good”. The idea is that some have attitudes so focused on the negative and such poor attitudes they only see what is right but by pointing out what is wrong. Did you catch that? There is nothing that can drive a person crazy then hearing someone tell you what is right by pointing out all that is wrong… I have worked in churches my whole life…and if I had a dollar for every time I heard a staff member say “well at our old church they did it this way”…
IT IS NOT THAT WE DON’T APPRECIATE YOUR INSIGHT INTO WHAT IS WRONG… IT IS JUST SIMPLY THAT YOU SEE EVERYTHING AS WRONG.
I refuse to be around whiners and complainers… won’t do it.

How many smart people don’t need anyone else… it is a sad but startling reality. I see so many people who think they don’t need help, they don’t need to be your friend, they don’t need to reach out and build relationships because they are special and unique due to their giftedness. It is almost like a kryptonite they feverishly and knowingly hang on to.
I have never met a single successful person who has not had an amazingly webbed network. In fact successful people may just simply be successful because they know how to network more than any other skill they possess. Think on that for a second… whatever you are lacking can be made up by your ability to network!

God did not create everyone equal. There are plenty of really athletic people who rarely have to work to play professionally… and then there are some who have what it takes and still never hit the field… Hmmmm? Today we are talking about why smart people fail to succeed!
Why smart people don’t succeed.
There are math geniuses who sell mattresses at the mall.
Computer geeks who work grub hub.
Brilliant surgeons living on the street panhandling
Former CEO’s who now work selling phones at ATT mobile
I know lots of really really really smart people who live a life of semi disappointment… almost - shall I say it? Failure.
Not that any of these jobs if you work them are failures… my son who is a math wiz works for a verizon store… but albeit he loves his job and every year is top of the company in sales and has continually moved up the ladder in the company..
But my point is many truly smart people live dumb lives!
Why?
They don’t realize that smarts aint enough. Here are just the first of 3 things smart people need to understand in order to actually live up to their potential.
#1 You gotta have a skills that pays the bills.
Sure you are smart… but do have a skill that warrants people lining up to hire you to use said skill.
Some skills fix problems.. the bigger the fix the bigger the skill is needed and you get paid accordingly.
If you can fix a leaky pipe… you will get paid appropriately.
Can you save a marriage? You will get paid appropriately.
Can you invest money to make someone millions? You will get paid appropriately.
Can you perform brain surgery? You will get paid appropriately.
Failure comes when you think smarts equal skills.
THEY IN FACT DO NOT!
Does your skill help people enjoy life more?
Can you write a song a play a movie a code?
If you can write really good songs you can get paid really good. If you can write really good books you will get paid really good.
Your skill is your limit.
To many smart people never put this together… they read book after book, get degree after degree but never actually achieve a high level skill.
Many times we call these people teachers…
#2 you are ugly… no no no not looks. you are just an ugly person to be around. You have bad manners, you don’t act graciously, you cant say thank you, you cant apologize -your are just rude. You have a chip on your shoulder like everyone owes you because you are smart.
Guess what? people like dumb nice people… they don’t like rude smart people. How many smart people have undone their own potential because people just don’t want to give them any breaks… because…well… they just don’t like them.
#3 unsuccessful smart people won’t shut up.
Many times smart people like to argue because they are smart and they know everything… ok, maybe you do… but we don’t care. We don’t want to be corrected every time we share our opinion. We would rather you just shut up, listen and share your opinion graciously without making us feel stupid or belittled.
Really smart people who fail in life think they can impress others by showing them just how really smart they are. I will impress them by constantly correcting them, one upping them and letting them know how wrong they are when they talk.
You know why successful people rarely argue? it’s pretty simple actually… they are to busy getting things done. It is like rearranging deck chairs on the titanic…
One of my pet peeves is when I am done preaching and someone comes up to correct my theology or argue a point of how they see scripture… and I ask them how many people have you won to Christ this week, month year? If they say none… well then I am done with you. Like Jesus did with the pharisees… in Mark… just walk away.

5 beautiful truths for a full life
- the truth will always be less popular, less flashy and will bother most people. Be truthful anyways. And in todays world the truth offends more people then lies society tells us.
John 8:32 You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
the greek word there means seeking out the truth. It is the same word phrase used when Mary is told she will become pregnant with the Messiah. She asks how will I know this truth. She is actively seeking truth.
Seek the truth is not enough in todays world… you have to be willing to share it to an ugly world that will hate your for it.
Share it anyway! - in love!
2. Don’t seek peoples approval as much as you seek peace. the best way to protect your peace in life is not a day on the beach with a drink and your toes in the sand… Sorry David Lee Roth. Because you can still have “Those” people in your head. Get rid of people who cause strife, pain, who are argumentative. They won’t understand why you cut them out and you don’t have to explain. When a child is drowning does the parent first choose to explain why he is going to pull him out? NO. The child is dying, just pull him out! Some of you have spirits and souls that are dying due to the people you are around… pull yourself out of those relationships and don’t worry about explaining why.
Gal. 1:10 Am I now trying to win the favor and approval of men, or of God? Or am I seeking to please someone? If I were still trying to be popular with men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.
3 - Understand your greatest advantage is that you will never quit. And in fact the more you fail the more dangerous you become- Because your learning… Do you want to quit learning, quit failing, do you want to quit failing quit trying… do you want to quit trying… die.
The recent crypto boom I saw more people panic, buy, sell, buy then sell again…
This is the mindset of someone who gives up.
Buy your coin and hold it.
Start your business and run it. If it goes under, start another one.

4 - Do what you love… BTW that is not sitting around the TV or computer screen killing time.
Most men who are overly productive in life have learned a secret. It is not that they have the perfect job using all their talent and skills… but rather they have the perfect outside life using their talents and skills.
I have a friend who is a carpenter… but his passion is raising money for individuals and non profit businesses and ministries. Now how much can you raise while being in construction… well he has raised over a 3 million.
It is his passion to help people get out of debt, raise money for Godly projects and teach people to dream big. He does not love construction… but it is just his job not his life.
Curtis Martin the HOF running back… never liked football. He just simply saw it as an ends to a means to do what he really was called to do!
Ecc. 5:18-20 Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. 19 And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. 20 God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past.
5 - be motivated by your potential and by the disaster of possibly being average.
I recently heard an interview with a Jewish rabbi. He asked the interviewer a question… He said does God want you to have great sex (odd question from a Jewish rabbi) and he went on to answer his own question. It says no where in the bible that God wants you to have awesome sex… but he has given you the tools to have awesome sex if you simply use them. He then went on to ask Does God want you rich… well it is truly hard to find a verse that says God wants you rich… however he went on to say - he has given you the tools to become rich if you are willing to use them.
What am I trying to say? We have more potential than we can ever even imagine. If you are stupid and have youtube you can make a million dollars in todays world.
Potential and perseverance combined makes for great sex and lots of money.
Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
Strength GK = ability, gives me the tools
Don’t blame God for these things:
Bad relationships: he has given you the tools
Bad finances: he has give you the tools
Bad sex: he has given you the tools
Don’t blame God for bad friends: he has given you the tools
Don’t blame God for bad health… he has given you the tools
it is all in your potential.

Are you deceived?
God please let me win the 500 million dollar lottery. If I win I will pay off the church debt, start some orphanages, tithe to my church, give money to the poor… I will also buy a new house, and a house in Florida… oh and in Montana on a mountain with some really cool snowmobiles and a huge jeep and a hummer, and for my Florida home I’ll get a Lambo and a Ferrari and the home will be on the ocean… You know I should probably buy a home in the Caiman islands as well…
Man Im going to have to cut back on how much I give the church- I mean God doesn’t want the church to solely depend on just my income…others may not tithe then and they will miss out on his blessing… and this is how deception works.
Are you deceived?
- has anyone warned you about behavior that does not line up with scripture?
- Have you knowingly excused your behavior regardless of what scripture says?
- Are you having sex with someone other then your spouse? Why is this important? The chemical cocktail is a powerful brain numbing and dumbing tool used by satan.
- Are you blaming your current situation or sin on your spouse or boss or parents etc…
- Are you describing events as if they were to powerful or God ordained to fight against?
- When asked questions do you typically defend your opinion and or ask questions back.
- Is your speech filled with weak and vague explanations. Clouded in obscure lingo and ideas?
- Do you lack detail in your circumstances when asked by others about it.
- Do you blame God or your circumstances for your actions and decisions?
- Is what you are doing clearly stated as Godly in scripture.
Gods word has a lot to say and is also absent on a lot of things… and we many times assume things are ok or not ok based on his silence on issues.
However, if you know what you are doing is clearly wrong in scripture. You are deceived by your own intentions.

AVOID THE APPEARANCE OF EVIL
Prov. 26:11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.
That word there fool actually comes from the root word “evil”.

Garth define fool. simple: in this context it is someone who is arguing their opinion in arrogance and without the intent to learn anything.
To the outsider who is just simply watching… they may have no information about the argument so they do not know who is right or wrong. But they will see who is not evil by the person who simply chooses to walk away and not argue.

Did you catch this: He is being harassed but he walks away and does not stumble.
WHY? to protect the peace.
YOU HAND SOMEONE OVER TO SATAN
1 Cor. 5:5 Paul is not even with the church of Corinth. And he does not feel the need to go there in order to hand someone over to satan. NOW LISTEN… this is kind of a big deal. I would think anyway. This is the only time I can find in scripture handing a person over to satan… but Paul does not even go there. He simply states what should be done and leaves it there.
So in a sense he doesn’t even walk away… it’s not even worth his time.
MARRIAGE COVENANT BROKEN
Matthew 5:32
Jesus says when a spouse breaks the marriage covenant by having sex with another person you can divorce.
**I find it interesting that Jesus doesn’t say… his grace will heal, love covers a multitude of sin, Patience wins in the end etc…
HE COULD HAVE SAID A LOT OF THINGS THAT SOUNDED BIBLICAL. But he doesn’t - he says “walk.
Now I know a lot of marriages that have healed through those terrible situations…
BUT HONESTLY… AS A PASTOR… Most do not. only about 3% make it.
I think it is an act of grace for God to say… walk.

There are some great verses in the bible on sowing and reaping… but here is one you may have missed.
Matthew 7:12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you
RELATIONSHIPS
Relationships , the iron law whenever you see an unhappy unsuccessful person in life you will almost always see someone who is trying to live outside the law of sowing and reaping. It’s accurate to 99% degree in relationships and life whatever you sow in relationships you get back we see this in parent child and we see it in marriage.
It’s easy to see in the realm of finances and health, but it is just as real in the realm of relationships.
If you have a great life it is because you have great relationships.
But here is something you need to look at when it comes to sowing and reaping in relationships.
Any relationship (especially home relationships) are like personal hygiene. You must care for every area of your body.… You don’t just wash your hands and think everything else is ok. Can you imagine a surgeon showing up for surgery and he is dressed in raggedy clothes, with poop on his shoes, wet paint on his shirt and greasy hair and lice… but he is like…”hey I washed my hands!”
You can’t get away with just saying “hey I provided for the family” that is not good enough.
“Hey I took my kids to church”
“Hey I haven’t watched any porn”
You must sow into all areas of your relationships.

Theological definition
Grace is the dimension of divine activity that enables God to confront human indifference and rebellion with an inexhaustible capacity to forgive and to bless.
**Your view of Grace determines how fulfilling and meaningful your Christian walk is.
Why it’s misunderstood, because it has two types of definitions in Scripture.
What it is: unmerited undeserved unearned kindness and favor of God
What it does: The divine enablement to live a life for God
What is Grace?
Culturally this word was always used as someone who is superior in standing giving a gift to one who is inferior in standing. But there was always a 3rd party as well. Someone in need, someone who had and someone who purchased.
An example from their time:
You see a single mom who is in need of groceries.
You go to the farmer who has the food
You buy it from the farmer and give it to the mom.
Someone in need
Somone who has
Someone who pays…
Faith, grace and the Law
The difference between faith and grace?
Grace is the faucet that was provided by God… you did nothing to earn that faucet… its just there in the bathroom. You don’t have to leave money behind when you wash your hands, you don’t have to feel guilty, you don’t have to work a few hours at the restaurant to pay them back… but how do you get the water out of the faucet? Faith… you don’t see any water coming out… but you simply put your hands down there and the water starts…
God I don’t deserve your grace outside of accepting Christ death for me. But in faith I will walk in it.
OT - demands righteousness - The Law
NT - Provides righteousness
We need grace - unmerited favor in every area of our life.
Law = Performance, being graded, earn
WORKS is so tricky…
When you are in a relationship you don’t ever want to feel like you have to earn their love…
BUT -
As soon as you get into a fight you quickly tell them all the things you have done! - works!
Our sin nature is programmed for a works mentality.
But we simply rest in Gods grace…
I can’t earn it, I don’t get rewarded by it
I simply ask God for more of it.
