Dependent, independent or Codependent? Which is right, wrong are there differences to a healthy marriage?
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO BEST FIX YOUR MARRIAGE OR MAKE IT BETTER? It’s not what you think. You must first make yourself better… but how? Come find out!
Bill Fong
Aside from bowling, Bill Fong hasn’t had a lot of success in life. His Chinese mother demanded perfection, but he was a C student. He never finished college, he divorced young, and he never made a lot of money. By his own account, his parents didn’t like him much. As a bowler, his average in the high 230s means he’s probably better than anyone you know. But he’s still only tied as the 15th best bowler in Plano’s most competitive league. Almost nothing in life has gone according to plan.
He likes to say he got his approach to bowling from the hard-hitting alleys in his native Chicago, where he went to high school with Michelle Obama. He was one of the few kids from Chinatown interested in bowling at the time. Despite his strict mother and the fact that his friends were all on the honor roll, little William preferred sports. He dreamed of being a professional athlete one day. He wasn’t big—too short for basketball, too slender for football—but he’d run up and down the block as a boy, racing imaginary friends.
When Fong was young, his parents divorced. He remembers the man who would become his stepdad taking his mom out on dates to a local bowling alley, where they could bring the kids. He noticed that when he was bowling, he wasn’t thinking about whatever was going on behind him. His mind could focus on the ball, the lane, the pins—and the rest of the world would disappear. He had never been captivated by anything like that.
In high school he read book after book on bowling… he studied it and began to get better than most. But when he got married his wife said “grow up” and get a real job. So he quit golf, started cutting hair and took ten years to master golf… he didn’t master it. After 10 years he quit it…
He decided bowling was a comfort to him so he started going to the lanes a few times a week and started back up where he left off pretty quickly… Now he was still an above average bowler… but not the king by any means… until that one night in January 2010.
He rolled his first 6 frames… all strikes… not totally unusual for him… it had happened many times…
He finished out that game a perfect 300. He started his second game… now there is something you should know about bowling the best of the best are measured by bowling 3 games of 300. That makes you world famous…
So his second game he had a few close calls… but they all fell and it was his second 300 game. As he started his 3rd game he thought he felt the pressure building. He was sweating, tightness in his chest, a little short bursts of panic… but he held the course… the last 6 frames the whole bowling alley came to stand and watch. with each strike close to his 300 they went wild… until his final frame. Bill thought this is it, this is what will change my life… I can start a pro tour, I can get some sponsors, I will now be esteemed and admired, I will prove my parents wrong…
And he let that last ball fly down the lane… It looked absolutely perfect just like every other throw… the pins exploded and everyone froze as they watched the #10 pin wobble, wobble and then regain its balance and stay standing… total silence. Fong literally collapsed only to be held by some of his friends…
He went home, feeling drained, nauseas and numb… he threw up in the bathroom and felt the room spinning…he realized he was having a stroke.
Rushed to the hospital and after tests and heart surgery the doctor told Bill that if he had thrown a strike on that last frame he surely would have died from the adrenaline that would have hit him… and in fact the miss and the dramatic drop in energy and heartbreak kept him from dying.
What was meant for bad actually saved his life.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28 (NIV)
The Living Bible translation words it this way: “And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans.”
First, He works for “the good of those who love Him.” If you love God, you can trust that He is working for your good.
But what does Good mean? Good throughout scripture implies completion. So he is not working just on OUR good… my good might be a bigger house, a faster car more money a vacation in the hamptons…
But God is working for us to be completed in him. That we are complete in his work, his call his mission and his power and faith.
Second, He works for “those who are called according to His purpose.” Here is a thought… you do realize that following God entails submitting to His purpose for you? You have been called by Him for a purpose that He holds for your life.
these two qualifiers–loving God and experiencing His call–are actually one thought, one action. Those who love God are called according to His purpose.
Being called according to God’s purpose also reminds us what “our good” actually is. It’s not our comfort or worldly success. It’s the furthering of His purpose through us.

What’s your absolute worst case scenario?
Your alternate destiny, once Plan A, B (and C-Z) crash and burn?
Could you survive it? Learn from it? Laugh through it? Make art out of it?
No matter how “secure” or “successful” I become, I’m always humbled by the fact that nothing is certain or permanent.
Anything could happen — a bad business decision, an unexpected illness, a freak accident, a shocking plot twist — and I might find myself slinging cheap beer in a grungy dive bar, subsisting on Saltine crackers and packets of free ketchup, digging through garbage for a second-hand brassiere. Y’know. Living inside a Dolly Parton song.
Not ideal. But I could survive it. And in a twisted way, my worst case scenario might provide so many gifts — plenty of free time, lack of intense responsibilities, deeper empathy for my fellow human beings, or the inspiration for my next book or project. Who knows?
Once we make peace with the notion of things Not Going As Planned, we can find beauty and bravery in all of The Alternatives.
So, if everything you’re working so diligently to create falls apart — in one horrific tsunami of unthinkable chaos — don’t worry!
Be less dependent on electricity, food from grocery stores, water from your tap, transportation that needs fuel, less dependent on money for survival,
Friends
Storage
Basic skills for outdoor and living off the land
But spiritually what if the worst thing happens spiritually in your walk?
You come home and your best friend is sleeping with your wife?
Your husband is arrested for child molestation?
Your kids are sentenced 40 years for violent crime?
You are told you have cancer and months to live?
Heb. 4:12 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Gods word brings life to dead things. Worst case scenario in our spiritual life is when things die… relationships, finances, health, future plans, jobs,
To know Gods word is to know what to do in every worst case scenario. Isn’t it about time you took his word a little more seriously?

What works for you???
What works for you might be good for you
What works for you might not be good for you
What works for you might not change your
What works for you might in fact change you
Just because something works does not mean its is healthy - so it is up to you to know the difference.
Something that is real does not make it right - or healthy.
There are hundreds of ways to cope with life…
Drugs, denial, anger and outbursts, hobbies, addictions to shopping, over eating, bullying, overcompensating, running after looks, money, fame, popularity… How do you cope with life?
See the problem is many times these work… for coping. They help us survive… but not necessarily thrive.
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Hold up, the first question should be… there are ways that seem right? Like I think they work? They are legit and helpful… but are not actually right?
And I can be fooled by it? I can actually think it is right?
Then I better be willing and wise enough to check my ways!
Look you can force and coerce and manipulate and guilt trip your wife and kids into a lot of things… and it will work… but is it best.
Lets get real life here should we??? Men like to guilt trip their wives into submitting in the bed room… like it is their right to do so. But in the end it is so much more rewarding when you are the type of husband that loves his wife and she chooses to submit and serve you.
It looked good… seemed right… but ahhhh whoops!
Excite, which has since evolved into Ask.com, had the chance to purchase Google when it was still very small, and for a meager price of only $750,000. To put things in perspective, there are cars that cost more than that. Still, Excite balked at the opportunity, and the rest is history. Today, Google is worth around $365 billion.
Did you know that 40% of all the money in our country was printed in the last 12 months!!!! 40% of all the money we have ever had in circulation was printed in the last 12 months… and you know what? almost 80% of it is back in the hands of the rich and the prepared! Why? They know how to assess good decisions vs. bad decisions and they are disciplined to do so. They don’t care if it works… short term - they are looking long term.
What is Gods long term plan for you? Maybe you should ask him and then look at what you are doing to see if it will ultimately line up to where ehe wants you… and of course give him the exclusive rights to interrupt your life and do whatever he thinks is best…even if it does’t seem to work at first!

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO BEST FIX YOUR MARRIAGE OR MAKE IT BETTER? It’s not what you think. You must first make yourself better… but how? Come find out!
Billy Graham is our generations greatest evangelist. He preached to millions and who knows how many came to Christ through his ministry.
I have always thought it somewhat puzzling that this Godly man was asked to meet with Presidents (some who were not so Godly) with Athletic superstars, Rock Stars, movie stars… and they all loved him.
He would preach to a stadium of thousands…
But what always blew me away was that is preaching was just ok… There I said it. he was not a captivating riveting speaker by any means. In fact I found him quite simple, sometimes… here I go… Boring. But he always had results.
But he was just like you and me in more ways than you might think…
As a senior in high school, a young Billy Graham found himself in a dark classroom with a girl who begged Graham to make love to her. Instead of rounding the bases, Graham made like Joseph and ran away.
- In 1937 Billy Graham fell in love with Emily Cavanaugh and proposed to her in the summer. She had to think about it and eventually said yes in the fall. But by 1938 she was having second thoughts and in the spring she dumped Billy Graham for one of his classmates, Charles Massey.
- Graham gave a Ted Talk in 1998
Graham once went skinny-dipping with President Lyndon Johnson.
- The first time Billy Graham shared his testimony was with a group of about 10 prisoners. The experience “reinforced my conviction that I would never become a preacher.”
- Billy Graham attended Bob Jones University for one semester and upon leaving, Bob Jones Sr. predicted nothing but failure for Billy Graham.
- Graham’s first formal sermon lasted eight minutes and included all four sermons he had prepared.
In the 1970s Billy attended various rock festivals, protests, and love-ins in order to better understand and connect with young people. To maintain anonymity, he attended “incognito” (meaning he donned a hat, sunglasses, and a big sweater).
Billy Graham was one of the few Americans who could get mail simply addressed, “Billy Graham, America.”
But what made him stand out… it wasn’t because of his speaking or preaching ability.
2 major things…
First: His integrity and character was impeccable. That is why even the secular world had such great respect for him.
But mostly…
He stands out for the same reason you can stand out as well.
Preach the gospel.
Jesus Christ the son of God died for your sins.
He is the only way to have a relationship with God the Father.
You must accept his forgiveness and give your life to him.
You don’t need to belabor the point with people.

Dependent, independent or Codependent? Which is right, wrong are there differences to a healthy marriage?
Nobody likes a backseat driver, no one wants to hear about how tough you are unless you have scars to prove it, no one cares how much you bench unless we see it or some trophies, nobody cares how great of a cook you are until we can taste it.
Shut up until we actually see you do it, live it, be it!
Lets be honest right now we are living in a time where everyone has an opinion, a platform to whine, complain, argue and even spout off like an expert with no real background to back it up.
So I don’t want to take on the issues of today per se, like COVID, The president, BLM, China etc….
But where can we draw the line! When do we just walk away and ignore people? Or maybe even tell them off… and if we do OR if we can- how do we… and is it biblical?
Well lets look at Galatians - Paul wrote this book.
Galatians has always been among those Pauline epistles least challenged on the issue of authorship. Paul wrote to the churches in southern Galatia after having a hand in starting them on his first missionary journey to Asia Minor. Paul’s close relationship to these churches helps to explain the extremely strong tone he took with them from the very beginning of the letter. Galatians exhibits Paul at his angriest, as he risked the good favor of the converts in those churches to make sure they were on the path of truth and not led off into deception. In fact, to emphasize the seriousness of his purpose, he took the pen from his scribe and wrote the end of the letter himself in large letters
The churches had some issues going on… Mainly some converts started to emphasize the law and basically saying we must earn our salvation… even after Paul had preached and given them the beautiful understanding of the gospel, gods grace and his provision… Others emphasized just the opposite and that because we are saved by grace we can continue on into a life of sin. TALK ABOUT A YING YANG problem.
*isn’t that just like religious people… they will still pervert the gospel - they will argue their point, try to impress you with why they are right.
Things haven’t change much have they? Seems like everyone has an opinion.
So where am I going with this?
I have shared this thought many times but a verse in Galatians 6 at the end of the chapter reminded me of this point.
Unless you are winning people for Christ, having to deal with some type of persecution… maybe laughed at, or you put your reputation on the line or you don’t mind looking foolish (and do so on a regular basis) or you risk faith in praying for the sick, lost and again this is out on your daily routine… LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY… YOU ARE LIVING IT AND YOU ARE SEEING FRUIT!
So many times I ask people who want to argue with me… how many people have you shared Christ with this week, this month? How many have you led to Christ? How many have you prayed for healing? HOW MANY?
Because if its not more than a couple… I don’t care what you have to say. Don’t bother me.
is this attitude wrong? Well lets take a look at what Paul writes at the end of this letter and he is angry and even picks up the pen and says I am writing this in my own handwriting and in big letters… like in caps right?
Gal. 6:17
NIV 17 From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
Galatians 6 Message
17 Quite frankly, I don’t want to be bothered anymore by these disputes. I have far more important things to do—the serious living of this faith. I bear in my body scars from my service to Jesus.
Look, there are a few ways to look at this verse.
First off, if you are living for jesus and really living a life of faith and putting it on the line every day… then quit worrying about everyone else and their opinion and what they are getting caught up in.
And there is the more obtuse and yet i believe still biblical thought of just calling people out.
I have in the recent past told someone their opinion means nothing to me because they do not live out their faith, they simply argue their flawed theological ideals. Until you actually start telling people about jesus, telling them the beautiful salvation message and start actually leading people to Christ… and bonus - you are praying for people out in public and seeing healings and getting words of knowledge… I do not care about what you have to say about the bible, your insights to scripture and please do not argue with me about my theological beliefs.
Finally… are you that guy? That girl? Do you have scars to share? Do you have stories of being harassed for your faith, made fun of, maybe even taken some pain… my wife had someone try to light her hair on fire when we were out witnessing. Live a life of faith that gives you some scars, some stories, some battle tested insights and testimonies.

Patrick Bet-David story
Nehemiah 4 When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, 2 and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, “What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?”
3 Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, “What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!”
4 Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. 5 Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of[b] the builders.
Who is telling you that you can’t do it?
Do what?
Business, family, money, spiritual measures of maturity, Physical feats, Creations, upstarts, entrepreneurship…
Who is telling you?
Family, friends, the media, the mind, the past, the words spoken over you as a child, the financial institution…
What are they telling you?
You are to dumb, old, slow, you don’t know the right people, Your project or business is flawed stupid or not needed, You won’t get funding, No one will buy it, the relationships you are working on will never heal, you will never manifest the spiritual dreams you have or the walk you want with Jesus…
It does not matter what, who or why.
What matters is you know God, you seek his direction and you give your plans to him.
So I have been working on a business plan… about 3 years ago I walked into a apple store and met a young man who’s dad had started something along the line that I wanted to do but in a different venue. He said well let me get your email and I will have him reach out to you.
Long story short nothing happened of it. I continued to figure out how to do this business… and kept running into dead ends…
Low and behold I get an email from this kids father… long story short - he was a great man of faith, very successful and he guided me into every area and arena I needed to get this thing going. The stories behind it and the miracles behind it go on and on etc…
I bet if you look over your history you will see how Gods hand has had its way in your life… if you hung on and waited.
Think of Joseph who was sold into slavery and waited years to see his family and to forgive them and pay them back with kindness… oh yea and for them to see that he is now a pretty big deal.
Don’t give up, give more
Dont quit, just quit trying to figure it out
Don’t lose heart, lose yourself in your dream
Don’t worry, Work
Don’t delay, decide and do
Don’t listen to critics, listen to stories of victory
Don’t let others bring you down, rather bring them up

I love a well coached Football team
I love basketball dunks
I love great cream filled donuts
I love love karate
I love great paintings
I love beautiful tattoos
I love a well trained guard dog…
But here is a secret… I can’t do any of those!
And guess what… thats your problem too!
Ever wonder why you don’t have as much influence and power to change people as you would like… and yes I am speaking specifically as a spiritual leader i.e. follower of Christ.
I know sometimes we pray for more influence, more power more miracles, signs and wonders. A deeper understanding of God…
Transition…
You know as I have read biographies of some of the greatest men of God. Charles Finney, Spurgeon, Smith Wigglesworth, John G. Lake, Billy Graham, The list could go on and on. One thing I have noticed with these great men of God is that they all came to a reckoning of their need for God… let me put it another way… they all came to an end, a hunger and desire that created a spiritual pit in them where they knew that if they were going to be used by God in the way they wanted- they would have to be leveled by his Spirit and changed in a way that went beyond their initial conversion.
They saw their holes, their flaws and their little foxes… and it finally bothered them in such a way that it drew them to an all out “give me God or give me death”.
What is funny is that when you study the greats of the old and new testament they all have similar stories. They all have stories where it’s God or nothing. They have all been led to times in their lives where its beyond hard… it literally comes to a decision of what do you really want and what are you willing to do it. Do you really want to be more like Christ? that is a question you must ask daily and long term.
So I am on a quest as of late… I want God to show up even more in my life, in my family in my ministry… out in public with me. And God has kindly pulled back the veil to my heart and asked me a simple question “how bad do you want it”? I am learning to give him permission to strip away from me anything in my life that would stand in the way. Deal with the little sins, the little lapses of faith and the times my flesh just wants to sleep, walk away or ignore his small voice.
And here is what I have learned more than anything… it starts in my mind. I must get my mind inline with scripture in every little detail. I must catch myself when I have even the little, most tiny thought that is unGodly.
Im not sure why I am on this venture… why I am pushing in more… maybe it is because I truly see our country as unGodly as I have ever seen it, I see pastors more inspired to push their brand than Jesus. Maybe it is because I truly believe we are in the end times… and maybe just maybe I am tired of feeling like I am not as much like Jesus as I should be.
I love football, basketball dunks, great donuts, karate, painting, well trained dogs… But I can’t do any of those so I am left to spectate…
I am realizing more then ever I can’t have a greater impact on others the world or even my own family… in fact anything beyond what I am capable of just makes me a spectator… unless I step away from the spectator phase and ask God to teach me and take me to a new level where I can go beyond watching and step into living.

You should have taken option A. In the movie the Run Down with the Rock at the very beginning he is shaking down a big time quarterback for a gambling debt. He has to take out his whole offensive line in doing so… When he grabs the Quarterback and takes his ring the QB says “what’s with all the hostility? The Rock answers you should have taken option A.
When we are attacked we have two options.
- respond in love
- Respond in the flesh
Today we are going to learn about how to keep people from ramping up and attacking us more and more…
Now people will attack you verbally on social media, and sometimes in person, but almost always - never in person.
So what do you do when someone attacks your opinion, your stance your beliefs or your motives?
Well first off lets realize that social media is a breeding ground for so called experts, bullies and the insecure… that being said… it still doesn’t change how we should react.
Proverbs 15:1 says
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Weakness of undeveloped character… Or you lack experience… what does that mean? It means you do not have the understanding from where they are at to appropriately respond - so just respond in love.
Wrath - literally means heat. You will turn down the heat by simply and gently responding in love.
But a harsh word stirs up anger… it will heat it up!
Verse 2
The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.
Proverbs is very specific here in how to deal with the haters in the world.
Understand you don’t know where they are coming from.
Don’t pour gas on it. Simply resend in love.
Then verse 2 A wise man will admire knowledge and even encourage it… while the fool will continue to gush evil.
The word folly used here actually comes from the root word evil.
So let me break this down and simplify it.
You post something on social media.
Someone attacks your post or misrepresent you with their comments reading into what you said.
Your response is first internally…
I am not sure who hurt this person and why they are responding this way.
Verbally or at least in writing a response you admire their opinion and love them. Then when other opinions come into the picture that are wise you encourage that thought…
If others disagree with it they will promote evil by their response.
So practically my life on social media…
I honestly do not post things about me or that I think are inflammatory… In fact I am always surprised at what some people take offense to… thats fine.
Anyway… my goal is to always keep communication open to share Jesus - and yes that is even to some so called Christians or those Christians who do not exemplify Christ.
So here is a real life example: I posted a picture of a permit to carry class we had last year. We do it for one reason and one reason only - we know it will draw in our community and we can give them a free class and then tell them about Jesus. We have in fact had over 124 people come to Christ due to these classes. But this particular picture people blew up over… no masks… no social distancing, etc…
People lost their minds…
Now I could have ranted on a few points… we told everyone it would be a packed event, non covid friendly, wear a mask if you want one etc…
I could have said “this is about rejoicing in those that came to Christ”.
I could have said things like grow up, you nazis… LOL, or whatever.
What did I say? Not a thing.
That was my response in love.
There are times I have posts blow up and I simply tell people ‘hey thanks for your response, I love the exchange of ideas.
Sometimes when it is a regular “Troll” and yes I have those… I will say “I love you Bobby, right on time… you did not disappoint.”
I just refuse to respond in anger- it will not bring them closer to jesus.
I recently had a post and those who responded to it were people I know. I could have said thing about their past that I know and said well you are responding this way because of this in your past…
NOPE not going to do it.
Bottom line is this: My response leads to so many great conversations. I have hundreds of people private message me and ask me things like, how can you stay so calm, how can you not strike back, or they might even be the people who attacked me, but due to my response will PM me and ask me to pray for them or ask me about my thoughts…
Love always wins.
