True spiritual power is unlocked when you understand it comes through the power of perception. Seeing what is unseen, seeing what is behind it and seeing the future once you are through it. If you can get that… you can do anything.
Your destiny has been won, the question is will you fight for it.

Your authority has been granted, will you master it.
Your blessings have been secured, will you claim them.
Your power has been activated, will you establish it.
The secret to overcoming obstacles is understanding that they will never end until Jesus comes back. The obstacle is the goal. Each obstacle that is overcome grants you greater access into your destiny, your freedom, authority, blessings and power… but it also leads you to a new and greater obstacle.
REPEAT AFTER ME: THERE WILL ALWAYS BE ANOTHER OBSTACLE…
AND BECAUSE THAT IS TRUE… CAN YOU GENUINELY BE HAPPY ABOUT IT?
God in his grace, mercy and forethought knows to give us seasons of rest… but don’t be fooled, that rest is prep for more obstacle training and conquering.
With each victory we become more skilled, more faith minded with a greater degree of trust as we push in. We are no longer rattled, but rather intensely curious as to how God will work through this new obstacle.
about 30 years ago I would worry about how our family would make it financially, in time I would casually worry about it, and given more time I would not worry about it as much as it would take up some of my mental energy, and then soon enough I would just simply trust God about it and now I laugh and shrug my shoulders and almost giggle saying to myself “wow, this will be a fun one to watch God show up in”. No worry, no fret, no mental energy wasted… just simply conquering each obstacle and growing through them - but it took time to grab ahold of that mindset.
No more fear, no more worry just simply excited and eagerly waiting in anticipation as to how God is going to show off.

10 years ago a lot of up and coming companies -many in the tech field- were firing people over 50 and hiring 35 and under… they could pay them less and work them harder… or so they thought. Now those same companies are firing 35 and under and are hiring 55 and older… why? well thats where we are going today.
Why hire over 55? They actually work…
No surfing the internet, no whining, no excuses
They don’t want 16 weeks off when their girlfriend is pregnant…
They don’t expect a raise with for no other reason than they think they deserve one
They will work weekends, They will work late, they will work early…
2 These. 3:
9 It wasn’t that we didn’t have the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to show you firsthand how you should work for your living. 10 Even while we were still there with you, we gave you this rule: “He who does not work shall not eat.”
11 Yet we hear that some of you are living in laziness, refusing to work, and wasting your time in gossiping. 12 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ we appeal to such people—we command them—to quiet down, get to work, and earn their own living. 13 And to the rest of you I say, dear brothers, never be tired of doing right.
14 If anyone refuses to obey what we say in this letter, notice who he is and stay away from him, that he may be ashamed of himself. 15 Don’t think of him as an enemy, but speak to him as you would to a brother who needs to be warned.
God created man on the sixth day with two basic purposes by which he would fulfill his primary purpose to glorify God as a bearer of the Divine Image(that is i.e. our way to make God look good): working and multiplying.
Paul says I will give you a command: It means more than just a command (and it does mean a command) but the underlying meaning is “Hey News flash… you don’t work, you don’t eat - figure it out… what are you stupid!)
Now this verse isn’t just for those who won’t work… but the principle is broader than that… you might have a job, but you are still lazy. You still expect things to get handed to you. You want a raise, a promotion, a longer vacation… even without putting in the work.
Things seem unfair, you seem ok living with your parents or your 3 friends…
You think someday it will just figure itself out…
WAKE UP CALL: Paul says… do not associate with those people. Why? So they might be ashamed…
Does God shame people - well yes, Luke 13:16,17
but more specifically this word means it will cause people to take a solemn serious look at what their actions are causing…
So I recommended a guy for a job a few years ago… he got the job and then sucked at it…
so now here are the solemn consequences…
- If a young woman was watching- she now knows don’t date this guy he can’t even keep a job and he is not tough enough to make it work… marriage will eat him up
- He has now cemented his habit again… making it even harder to stick with a job or a hard situation. When you quit, you are a quitter and its easier to quit anything hard
- he will now again think life is unfair… which will lead to his low self esteem, he becomes a victim
- he has not built a good resume for a future job
- he has made sure that i will never recommend him again for a job
- His parents now wrestle with guilt, frustration, anger and more seeing their son as a quitter
- he now has most likely kept a very hard working man who legitimately has a family with needs and who would be a great worker… he is keeping that guy from getting a job… how so? well now if I send that guy to my friend, my friend will say “the last guy you sent me sucked… so I am not taking my chances on this other guy”.
- You are looked down upon by your peers. My best friends are workaholics. they sweat, bleed, push, work more harder and are providers… and we all look poorly on those who don’t work
- and because of that You now hang with quitters… Hard workers don’t want to hang out with quitters
- You are losing time. If you had stuck with that sucky job from 3 years ago, you would probably be making more, with a promotion or two…
- you have kept yourself from tasting the victory of perseverance through adversity. I have pictures on my phone from the last 10 years where I was painting houses, picking up trash, mowing lawns, moving furniture… They all sucked, they were all hard work and I was gifted in none of them… but now I have the taste of perseverance in my life. and you become addicted to working hard and persevering.
Have you ever heard someone say “I wish I had your job… travel around and just talk and get paid”. I had a kid say this to me at a school… my response was this..
You couldn’t handle the world I live in. You can’t even keep your saggy ass pants up… hanging down. You think when I negotiated the contract with the state of florida I walked in with my pants hanging down. I had to read 20 pages of a contract and understand it… I asked the kid how many books he thought I had read to write, memorize and speak and get paid, over a 500. I asked him what my tax liabilities are working in Florida but living in Minnesota, I asked him if there is a dispute over non-payment do we argue that point in my state or the other persons state…
I asked him what job he currently has in order to use that as seed money to put into flyers, postage, airfare and conventions in order to build relationships to get gigs to speak. I asked him how much schooling he has… I have my Masters in management…
Hard work trumps everything… and God does not bless laziness, excuses, tardiness, apathy, lethargy, whining, victimhood or your lack of responsibility.

Are you a Rock star? A professional or just someone who is totally committed? Why do I ask? well depending on your answer… you will make life easier or harder for yourself…
And lets not even start on who you attract…
Let me read you something out of Daniel Coyle’s book The Culture Code
In the 1990s sociologists, James Barron and Michael Hannon analyzed the founding cultures of nearly 200 technology start ups in Silicon Valley. They found that most followed one of three basic models, the star model, the professional model, and the commitment model. The star model focused on finding and hiring the brightest people. The professional model focused on building the group around specific skill sets. The commitment model, on the other hand, focused on developing a group with shared values and strong, emotional bonds. Of these, the commitment model consistently lead to the highest rates of success. During the tech bubble burst of 2000 the start ups that use the commitment model survived at a vastly higher rate than the other two models, and achieved initial public offering three times more often.
Great question… which one are you - right?
But actually today lets ask an even more important question… who do you attract, who do you go after? Lets say in business… who would you honestly first want on your team?
What about marriage? Do you want a rock star spouse…the arm candy, the sleek 6 pack ab Audi driving dude, Or do you want the cool professional… great job, good savings plan, high expectations for your kids in private schools… or maybe you just want someone who is quite average in all areas… but just totally committed.
What about your spiritual network and friends?
What about your church? Do you want a Rockstar church, killer set, sound, worship band…
Or a more liturgical quiet, staid and even keel worship environment…
or maybe a simple house of worship, nothing is great and nothing is horrible, but the people are real.
NOW I AM NOT SAYING ANY OF THESE ARE BAD… ROCK STAR WIFE, CHURCH, PROFESSIONAL FRIENDS ETC…
But lets be honest - our first response is typically not the committed - we might say bland prospect.
Ok, the apostle Paul in 1 Cor. 1 says some follow me, some follow Appolos, some follow Cephas… what’s he saying: Different strokes for different folks… we all have varying tastes… but all we’re committed to Jesus.
There are differing tastes in all things, including spouse, business, church etc… but the point is what is their calling to the Cross of Christ…
I don’t care how committed you are to a church, business, cause, spouse… how committed are they to the Cross. Now I get it, some jobs are secular and some causes are just good not necessarily Christian..
but the overall pull here is “if YOU are going to commit yourself to something.. make sure they are also committed to the right thing”. It is easy to get excited to hop on board the next big Rock star, Professional or even seemingly committed person…
but check their commitment to Christ.
And if you are single and looking than really do yourself a favor and don’t be fooled by looks alone… check the record of all too many who are now divorced from the Rock star and the professional… they will tell you someone who is committed to Jesus is by far more important…

A week ago my friend sent me a video of his Frosh daughter, never in a sport in her life… and she cleaned up in the relay race… she was behind a good 25 yards…
God likes to show off…
Eph. 2:4-7
4 But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved! and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
Why Did Danny send me a video of his daughter? He was proud of her.
Why do I show people pictures of my son who is an aspiring bodybuilder? I am proud of him.
Why do I show pictures of my grandkids?
Why do i share sermons from my father?
Why do I brag about my wife’s cooking?
I AM PROUD OF THEM…
Now if you really knew my son, my grandkids, my dad and my wife…. you might say… haven’t these people let you down?
Yep
Haven’t they hurt you? Yep
Haven’t they messed up? Yep
But I show them off because i love them and my faith in who they are becoming is based on Gods word.
What does that mean… it means I brag not on your spotless record… because it is not spotless, Rather I brag on you to show off how amazing my love. and in reality, me showing you off knowing your messed up record and reputation shows just how great my love is!
Ever see a horrible, vile person, just disgusting in action and deed, truly a dark and evil human… and they are in court facing trial for their actions… and in that courtroom there are many who want the worst for that person (and not saying they don’t deserve it) But you will many times see one person crying over them… its mom. Her love stands no bound. Her love remembers her little boy, her love mourns the boy he was meant to be… she is not ashamed of her love for him.
In our sin God still loves us… and in fact when we accept his forgiveness and make him Lord of our life… he wants to show us off to prove his power, and love. He wants to show me, my life, my past, my future… he wants to show everything about me to prove just how powerful his love is, just how powerful the cross is…
I was just asked by a young man what he should do if he messes up and people are watching… maybe even making fun of him or condemning him… I told him to absolutely admit he sinned, but then let these people know how thankful he is that God still forgives and loves him.
God wants to show you off… is that hard to understand? maybe because you think it has to do with what you did, how well you are, by your track record - nothing could be more far from the truth. He wants to show us off because he wants the glory, he wants the attention, he wants the worship.
What if we changed our witnessing strategy to simply this…
Hey I gave my life to Christ and it is so much better… but I still sin, I still mess up, I still act hypocritical…. and he still loves me. What an amazing God I serve.
