Joshua 14
Caleb… thirty verses define his life. Only 30, what do they say about him?
If you could only have thirty verses about your life… what would they say.
He had energy, health and enthusiasm… even at the age of 85
Numbers 13 he believed in Gods mission for his life.
What is Gods mission for your life.
His mindset was I expect things from God, I expect his promises in my life. I expect God to use me.
Caleb was faithful over the long haul.
SOME THINGS WE LEARN FROM THE LIFE OF CALEB:
4. People with vision that is truly from God have an uncommon depth to them. Their spirit is resilient, reassuring, and refreshing.
5. While others dwell on the giants of life and fall by the way, Calebs dwell on the mountains of promise and keep going.
6. Obtaining the mountain God has for us will involve waiting on God, wading through problems, and wanting it more than anything else.
7. When our want for what God wants for us increases, our want for what we want for us decreases.
8. There is no price too great for a reward that is far greater
1. HE WAS NOT DEFEATED OR DISCOURAGED BY WHAT OTHERS THOUGHT OF HIM
I enjoy considering the meaning of names as I study; at times, especially in the Old Testament, they can reveal something to us about the person. The name Caleb does not reveal the character of this man, but may be an insight into some of the obstacles he faced. Caleb literally means “dog.” One scholar says it means “raging with canine madness.” In our vernacular, I think we would say Caleb was a “pit bull.” The truth is that though Caleb was of the tribe of Judah, he was from a clan in Judah that had a lower culture and a poor reputation.
Notice his father was Jephunneh the Kenezite. This was a wild clan that lived as much amongst the Edomites as the Hebrews. They were not a well-thought-of group. My point is simply this: Caleb was not probably the best educated, nor was he the most cultured man, nor did he come from the royal folk; but he did have a heart for God. He was not going to let his education, his culture, or his family history stop him from being all he could be for God. He became a “pit bull” for God. No giant, no negative Hebrew could stop his zeal for serving the Lord.
2. HE REFUSED TO BE INFLUENCED BY THE NEGATIVE MAJORITY
And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.—Numbers 13:30
When ten of the twelve spies brought an evil, negative report, Caleb spoke in opposition to them and in favor of entering and conquering Canaan. How easy it would have been for him to just blend in. He could have let those articulate ten princes have their say and just nod in agreement.
Why should he choose to go against such an influential crowd? Because the crowd was wrong! Caleb was not going to remain silent while the majority was doubting and disobeying God. Thank God that Caleb was willing to take a stand for what was right even when that stand was unpopular.
3. HE REMAINED STEADFAST THROUGHOUT HIS LIFETIME
Caleb said the Lord had kept him alive for forty-five years from that fateful day when the majority ruled. For forty-five years, Caleb had wandered in the wilderness through no fault of his own. He suffered the same hardships and trials as those who had disobeyed God. Yet, his zeal to serve the Lord had not waned.
Our generation needs to learn the steadfastness of Caleb. I am told that the average time a person is passionate to serve God in our churches is three years. May God help us to have the spirit of Caleb to passionately serve Him all the days of our lives.
Dr. John Rawlings played such a vital role in leading me to Christ and in encouraging me as a young pastor. He was a man who possessed an unflagging spirit. I will never forget as I visited with him when he was ninety-six years old, and he showed me his ten-year ministry plan. When he went to Heaven at ninety-nine years old, he was still planning and serving. God help us to be committed to serve until our last day! Age may require changes in the work of our ministry, but it never supplies a reason to quit serving.
4. HE DID NOT LET OBSTACLES KEEP HIM FROM THE FIGHT AND, ULTIMATELY, THE VICTORY
Joshua 15:13–19 tells how Caleb organized his family to fight the enemy and take the mountain, the walled city, and overcome the giants. Everything in life that is worth accomplishing has obstacles. But knowing God’s will allows obstacles to become opportunities for Him to work through us.
May God give us the spirit of Caleb. There is still so much to be done and more mountains to conquer!

SOME THINGS WE LEARN FROM THE LIFE OF CALEB:
- He walked by faith, stood apart from the crowd, and looked for the hand of God in every situation.
Can you imagine you are coming back into the tent with 11 other older men… they are all talking about the land of Canaan and all somber and discouraged… Caleb stands up to them. He does not bow to their peer pressure…
You know peer pressure is the original virus. You can feel it in a group and if you are even slightly aware it you know what you can and cannot get away with… in order to stay in good company. I have watched peer pressure literally choke a group of men like a cloud entered he room. Caleb knew that his opinion was going to turn over the apple cart. He did not partake of this social stigma, this virus of mindset, He did not drink the kool aid, he spoke his mind, he spoke the truth and he left things in the hand of the leader Moses.
We need to understand what Caleb knew. I will speak the truth, I will then trust in a faithful God and look for his hand and his leading in every situation… and not go by what the crowd thinks.
2. Caleb asked, “Where is God in this? What is He trying to do and to teach me?” He made statements like, “I must deal with this in faith!” and “We are well able.”
What can we see in this for ourselves? Simply put, when he saw the reality of the situation he then called out on Gods faithfulness. When you see a situation that seems hopeless or dire or even impossible… do you bow to the thoughts in your head. the circumstances or do you immediately have scripture you can quote, claim and go to war with. Or better yet do you have past situations that God led you through that you now pull from memory and plop into your faith bank and draw from. When my Doctor said you have about 2 years to do what you have always wanted to do, so make a will, spend time with your family… you only have about 2 years left to live. I pull that day out every now and then when things look sucky… and I laugh and remind myself of Gods faithfulness now from October 21st 2010.
Know your past victories, know your God, know his word.
3. Caleb wasn’t surface, shallow, or small-minded. He was a man of content, character, and commitment.
Caleb didn’t bat an eye when it came to standing up to peer pressure, standing up to giants or even standing up to Joshua and demanding his mountain.
This does not come from a certain type of personality. I know the brash loud mouth follower of Christ seems to have an endless supply of commitment and unashamed drive to serve God… and yes that can be very much personality (I know, I is one) but I have also met plenty of men who quiet, solemn, driven and committed to God beyond repair. They are ruined for jesus… just not a loud mouth about it. They will still hold their ground and their faith.
So if its not personality what is it that makes us men of character? having the right upbringing? it helps… but no. Having Gods favor before we even knew him? Nope, so what gives us character, conviction and commitment?
Simply put, time with Jesus. an authentic man of God is marked by lots of time with Jesus. You may not know how to spend time with Jesus… here is my recommendation. Go get yourself a bible, some praise music, a journal and just start spending time with Jesus… for 10 minutes, then 30, then an hour then 2 hours and see where it goes. That creates an unshakeable man of God.
Final thought… we often hear conversations of “what would you do if… The truth is that a man of God will always do what God wants him to do. it doesn’t matter if it costs him his job, reputation, family connections, money or even his life… this was the life of caleb. Lets follow his lead.

What does take to change the world?
Friday Jan 07, 2022
Friday Jan 07, 2022
What is it in your deepest foundation that makes you who you are? That has created the cracks in your foundation. That has brought the gifts and the curses from the crucible of your upbringing. What is holding you back… is it your trials? your sin? Your lack of gifitngs…
Where am I going with this…. I want to know what is truly needed to change someones life, to change someones world… change their future.
Why do we have this fascination with the belief that we must have some great track record of success, riches, fame or intelligence to change someones life.
You can change someones life simply with a tank full of gas…
My wife just recently changed a woman’s life by simply driving over to her house and handing her $200. How did $200 change someones life? Well this woman has been involved in the dark arts, in the new age movement and in spiritualism. My wife runs into this woman quite a few times a year for personal and health reasons. They have built a relationship… my wife has many times wondered the best way to share the Gospel with her… but has always just felt like it was not the right time. So a few weeks ago this woman found herself at her kitchen table crying out to - who else? God… the one she doesn’t believe in…. God… if there was one… that she could not pay her bills. She needed $200… God if you are really there I need $200… it was a real deep cry from her heart. My wife on the other side of the city heard God speak to her clearly… go take $200 to this woman. When my wife showed up at her door the woman lost it. She kept asking how Kim would know to do this… Kim simply said “God told me you needed $200”. It completely changed how this woman saw Jesus, how she understood you could have a relationship with God… it is a sense was the proving ground to believing she also could know Jesus”. You will never read about my wife’s world changing accomplishments, Her fb, instagram and have about 200 people total. She is not super smart, she is quite beautiful, but thats about it… but she’s not known for her beauty… how could a housewife, a simple homemaker change someones life? Simple, listen and obey!
You have never heard of Edward Kimball changed America and the church… causing the gospel to reach millions and millions and probably still has an impact today. He was a simple Sunday School teacher who felt one day he needed to go the the shoe store and tell one of his students about how much Jesus loved him. This young man was DL Moody. Who later became one of our greatest preacher, teacher evangelists in our history.
When we reach eternity we will be shocked by who ultimately did the greatest reaching and changing of lives… we will also be shocked at how many TV evangelists and preachers will be overlooked. We will also be humbled at the fact that we could have been one of those greatly used by God… but we let our instagram account and facebook cred… stop us. We thought we were not spiritual enough, gifted enough, smart enough, talented enough, rich enough, biblical enough, well spoken enough… when all it took to change the world was a listen and a simple deed.

What is wisdom?
Thursday Jan 06, 2022
Thursday Jan 06, 2022
Everyone wants to be smart, seen as wise… but what is wisdom? is it being the smartest in the room? on the internet? In your field?
I once read of a man who had one of the top 3 IQ scores in the world. he lived alone, lifted weights and was basically a salesman… not much of a life, not much success but his IQ was off the chart… is this wisdom?
What is wisdom… how does your definition of wisdom stack up against Gods definition.
1 Cor. 2
3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for,
“Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?”But we have the mind of Christ.
So What is wisdom? simply put it is the the mind of Christ!

Thats a miracle
Wednesday Jan 05, 2022
Wednesday Jan 05, 2022
Christianity is not the product of reason… I criticize no man who does not have a relationship with Jesus to think otherwise. But the one who has been born from above, born again… regenerated he himself must understand where he lives. His regeneration must dominate his conscience impacting his very breath. When Christians try to live by reason they are moving of out Gods country into the enemy’s land. We belong in the supernatural realm even in our habitual daily existence.
We want to live in the miraculous. We feel the need to experience it in a common day to day way. It may in fact feel like the best way to prove our walk with God. However many of us feel like the miraculous is for the other man, the super Christian… who one who was chosen by God to have a unique holy and chosen walk. The truth is we all walk in the miraculous every day… we simply have lost sight of it.
God created the very world we live in - in only six days. That is a miracle. He created every living creature big and small in this world… that is a miracle. he keeps life energy in all he created, that is a miracle. We live in this creation and that is a miracle. The God of all creation, of all eternity loves us, that is a miracle. He sent his son to our world… that is a miracle. His son lived a holy sinless life in order to die for us… that is a miracle. His blood cleansed us of our sin and made us righteous in his sight, that is a miracle. We now have freedom to live in his purpose, with his power for his kingdom… that is a miracle. He hears us when we pray and works on our behalf at the right hand of the father… that is a miracle. He will come back again and rapture us into his presence for all eternity… that is a miracle. We will rule and reign with him forevermore… that is a miracle.
There is no sin, no power, no government, no king or ruler… there is nothing in all of creation, time and history that is as powerful as God himself and he lives in us… that is a miracle. He calls us sons and daughters… that is a miracle. He tells us to call on him as Daddy… that is a miracle.

There’s a concept in business called the Peter Principle. Its basic idea is that a person will promote or rise only to his or her level of competence within an organization. Beyond that threshold, that person either requires more education, coaching to achieve a higher degree of competence/skill, or someone more competent may come in to complete the task.
I believe our Christian life is much the same. We will rise to our level of faith within our walk and beyond that we either need more personal prayer and study, a mentor to train us up or someone else who comes in and fills the gap with their faith to get the desired answer to prayer.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not yet seen. your faith is the evidence you have that God is at work in the invisible, the unknown, the spirit realm… how much evidence do you display in your actions and mindset?
Are you tired of waiting on others to pray in your answer, to speak of evidence you don’t yet see OR even to coach you up to stepping out. These are not bad, but God has called you to more… to a greater substance of faith in the invisible. I have heard a few people say that maybe your greatest element in faith is your imagination. its a strange way to think of it, but it is actually a Godly concept. God has called us to believe what we cannot see based on what he says. That is the best use of your imagination ever in life. What’s the worst use of our imagination? When we see the worst case scenario, when we use it to doubt, second guess and even plan our demise.
Life will rise and fall to your faithful expectations. To your faith level will be given the blame or fame for your life’s direction.
There is no growth without faith, there is no fruit without faith, there is no miracle without faith.
Unhappiness doesn’t come from the way things are, it comes from your perception or your faith level of how you think things will turn out.
Fear is always built on a lie deal with the lie, and fear will die! You deal with the lie by replacing it with gods truth, what has God said about this situation? God’s word brings faith with it and when faith comes in fear goes out! Fear cannot abide or dwell in the environment of the truth. You eliminate fears environment by dwelling in the environment of the truth. Faith is always built-in Gods word, built on the truth, live in the truth, and you and your future is fear proof and faith filled!

The Title
Monday Jan 03, 2022
Monday Jan 03, 2022
I was talking to a man -about my age and he told me he thought New Years resolutions were a waste of time. When I asked why he said they are unrealistic and don’t work.
I asked him to define what a new resolution was… and he basically said its something you think you need to do or get better at…
And There’s the problem…
A goal or NY resolution whatever you want to call it is actually who you are choosing to become.
When you make a choice the power of that choice is not what you accomplished its what you became through that choice, through that goal.
If you choose to steal a pencil… its not about what you chose… its what you became. You became a thief.
Goals are really just tools that you use to build your legacy, build who you want to become.
Show me a man who does not have goals and I will show you a man who does not not who he is or what he will become.
in a world where we fear the unknown… why would you choose to live a life of the unknown… sure there is no certainty in life, but to go into it daily, weekly, yearly without any map is the ultimate Russian roulette.
So if you know who you want to be…
If you believe you know what God has called you to do, Then I see no greater tool, no greater pathway than to start each year fresh with your list for legacy living.
Do you have a pulse… than you can choose your legacy
Do you still have emotions and feelings that create energy and focus.. then drive those into a mission for your life.
This year your legacy is waiting for you to write another chapter…
1 - Who you will love more
2 - What habit you will master to influence others
3 - What plans you will make to overcome failure
4 - How you will start each day on point
and this book will be turned into a movie that your family will watch again and again and again….
you are writing the script every day for this movie, you are the star, you are the director, the writer, the producer and the lead actor. The movie is yet to be titled… because the title is chosen by your family after you have died. Choose your future wisely, choose your legacy now.
If you’ve got a goal, a resolution… you’ve got hope in who you choose to be.

Right now I am pumping the greens and Pre-workout and loving them both… Heres a secret “I’m on them right now as I do my podcast”.
You don’t know what you don’t know because you don’t know enough to know what you don’t know… and you don’t even know it.
If you think Im confused… then you are even more confused!
I have a friend of mine who tells a hilarious story… he is at home… his wife comes home from girls party. She is looking really good. One thing leads to anther and they end up in bed doing what married couples do. Afterwards she is tired and just falls asleep… but Brett is hungry… (I can relate) they are newly married and he is young… they are just a block away from a White Castle… he gets up out of bed, doesn’t turn any lights on in the bedroom - he doesn’t want to wake his wife. He throws on his clothes and walks down to get a burger. While standing in line, he just feels like people are starting at him. the clerk seems a little put off helping him, he gets his food and eats it walking back home, gets inside his apartment and finishes his food watching TV. Just before he heads to bed he walks into the bathroom and literally loses his mind. He is howling… He without realizing it put his wife’s blouse on and not only that it had her name tag from the party still on her shirt. Hello my name is Lisa…. when he tells the story he just laughs in shock and says how could I not see or realize I had my wife’s blouse on… she is not a big woman… but Brett also is a smaller frame dude….
You don’t know what you don’t know because you don’t know enough to know what you don’t know… and you don’t even know it.
John 8
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
FREE TO SEE
33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”
34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. 37 Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message. 38 I am telling you what I saw when I was with my Father. But you are following the advice of your father.”
39 “Our father is Abraham!” they declared.
“No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example. 40 Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing. 41 No, you are imitating your real father.”
They replied, “We aren’t illegitimate children! God himself is our true Father.”
42 Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. 43 Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! 44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me! 46 Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don’t listen because you don’t belong to God.”
48 The people retorted, “You Samaritan devil! Didn’t we say all along that you were possessed by a demon?”
49 “No,” Jesus said, “I have no demon in me. For I honor my Father—and you dishonor me. 50 And though I have no wish to glorify myself, God is going to glorify me. He is the true judge. 51 I tell you the truth, anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!”
52 The people said, “Now we know you are possessed by a demon. Even Abraham and the prophets died, but you say, ‘Anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!’ 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”
54 Jesus answered, “If I want glory for myself, it doesn’t count. But it is my Father who will glorify me. You say, ‘He is our God,’[i] 55 but you don’t even know him. I know him. If I said otherwise, I would be as great a liar as you! But I do know him and obey him. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced as he looked forward to my coming. He saw it and was glad.”
57 The people said, “You aren’t even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham?”
58 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I am!” 59 At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.
We are counting down to a new year… may it be in our hearts heading into 2022 a simple prayer…
Father help me see what I do not see, so that I may be more like you.
