- Pray in public - I don’t mean like the hypocrite who prayed to impress others, but rather the prayer where you see someone who needs healing, encouragement, in a group setting where there is a need..
My wife God bless her is not a “pray in public person”, she will tell you that she did not marry a pastor to be a pastors wife. She just wants to be my wife… and she takes very good care of me. She always says I am her ministry… Love it. I have seen people in groups, bible studies, women’s groups etc… ask my wife to pray and she will confidently say “no thank you”. Now before you judge her, I have also seen her pray for people in public, even lay her hands on them… to her prayer is very intimate and private- and she will pray in public if it is a God thing…. great- but I know many men can pray in public if they use rhetoric or religious verbiage - but can you pray publicly with intimacy and without intimidation.

- Hug and kiss those you love in public
Starts at home in front of your kids…
Kiss your loved ones good bye, hello, or just to say i love you. Dads kiss your boys on the cheek, your daughters on the lips or the cheek. Kiss your wives in public, kiss your parents who are aging.
Do you want to build confidence in your relationships? Build a healthy solid relational self esteem? Be affectionate in public and not just in the bedroom or alone in the kitchen.
- Be the only one: be willing to speak out in a crowd, business mtg, water cooler chat.
Speaking up is when you communicate publicly, assertively, and honestly for the rights and needs of yourself and others. It is at the root of all social change, including within organizations. For many of us, it's easier to advocate for others than it is to speak up for ourselves.
If you do anything enough, it gets easier and you get bater at it.
look Peter spoke out… he did great. You are the son of God… and a few minutes later he spoke out and got rebuked… but he got better… he preached in front those who came to mock them for speaking in tongues…

What skills should a man of God master?
First what is a man of God?
Man of God is a biblical title of respect applied to prophets and beloved religious leaders. The term appears 78 times in 72 verses of the Bible, in application to up to 13 individuals:
- Share the gospel. How many who call themselves Christians actually share or proclaim the gospel?
Well first of all only 60% of Christians feel they should. 40% feel like its not their business or right… IT could turn people off. uh… yea, like a big bloating corpse… a bag of rotting flesh… but we are still called to do it. Cor. 2:16
Look if you brag… ok, you don’t even have to brag, but if you call yourself a Professional football player and you don’t actually play on a team…
if you say you can outsell anyone
If you say you can bench 500 lbs
If you say you treat your wife like a queen…
If you can’t back it up - you stink!
If you say you are a Christian… I am just not buying it if you don’t actively share/proclaim the gospel.
Lets be clear - you will probably go to heaven… but you won’t earn any respect from me as a man of God.

You can’t be around these guys for more than a day or so and you will hear them share the gospel with everyone and anyone.
- Know at least one topic really really well in scripture.
If I asked you to teach me a topic in scripture… just one topic. Could you? You can pick the topic… judgment, love, righteousness, Moses… but have you climbed into your bible and consumed it to know everything you can on that subject? If someone called you out of the audience at church and said “hey we need you to kill 15 minutes while our speaker gets here…. could you do it? would you know enough about a topic you could teach it and then answer questions about it?
- Have a proven track record of never giving up.
Prov. 24:16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.
What impresses me more than anything… literally anything - is someone who just will not give up. I have a friend who has started 7 or 8 businesses. Most people see him as flighty, or a failure or he can’t finish what he started. NOT ME. I see him as a fighter, a winner, a soon to be millionaire. I admire and even want more of what he’s got.
People who succeed with little effort or who just win or have it handed to them… not impressed in the least, and actually feel a little sorry for them. A man may fall down 7 times, but he gets back up… notice it doesn’t say that he finally never falls again, that he finally wins… not it just means he keeps getting back up. And by the way the number seven means forever… you never quit getting back up.

Let me be completely blunt. In todays world we think that to be a man of God we have to know our bible inside and out, have supernatural powers flow from us, lead a ministry, be able to defend our faith, preach, teach, evangelize etc…. Bottom line- the world is so crapped out and pathetic that all you need to do to stand out like a man of God is be able to call out sin! Do it in humor, do it in love but just do it!

Man of God is a biblical title of respect applied to prophets and beloved religious leaders. The term appears 78 times in 72 verses of the Bible, in application to up to 13 individuals:
But today the word Man or masculinity is as abrasive to some as the word God. Put them together and you could get fireworks. And what blows my mind even more are many of the well intentioned stupid Christians who think Masculinity is not Godly.
For example, Masculinity receives labels such as "toxic," and the idea of the patriarchy is condemned. Contrary to these mainstream beliefs in the world, the Bible does speak of men highly. All of Jesus' apostles were men, the Bible was written primarily by men, and according to Scripture, men are to be the head of the household, they are to lead, sacrifice and even be the ones willing to give up their lives for their families.
What’s a man?
"After removing him, he raised up David as their king and testified about him, 'I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my own heart, who will carry out all my will.'" (Acts 13:22)
Be like Jesus…
ok, yea but Jesus was peaceful, loving, merciful and gracious - he was, and we should practice the same. But Jesus also rebuked the Pharisees using harsh language, He made fun of them, He said if someone harms a child they should be drown at sea… and lets not forget Jesus is coming back to establish his rule and reign… and it won’t be through voting, or peaceful manners… he will come back to crush and annihilate his enemies. There are dozens of men in the bible mentioned for their exploits in battle… Godly men.
Do we need a balance? For sure - but in todays world we have swung so far over we have put Jesus in a pair of plaid pants, a lemon yellow sweater vest and penny loafers….
- Defend your character in serenity.
Approach another man and be able to confidently and calmly disagree after being attacked verbally by the other men.
*Perg - You can’t call me lazy.
- Mock sin (not the sinner, but boldly mock sin)
Porn… are you kidding me, you can’t get a woman to marry you and learn to please her? (well I like variety… no you like not having to be responsible proving your character to the same woman… you keep moving around so you don’t have to change…. so I guess you are irresponsible and can’t please a true woman. Dude you seriously need to understand what a poser you are) Porn is like a badge one wears stating I have to watch it because I don’t have a happy wife at home to do it with.

Whine… Well they got all their money selling baggie snatchers. They had a rich dad, I don’t have enough time, talent, brains, friends, Im tired, I don’t like my looks, I don’t like my job…. My life sucks, My hair is falling out, I will never afford a house, a horse a mouse….
its just the life I live….

The cross is something you choose for Christ. It is not a hard season in life. You are choosing to deny yourself and do what God wants you to do. It is a price you choose to pay.
You take up your cross to do what Jesus did… love others, serve others tell others about Him!
The cross was horrible… but it also was understood that this person deserved that…. they chose by committing the crime - they were choosing the CROSS!
I RIGHTFULLY AND JOYFULLY PICK UP MY CROSS… It is what I deserve in following Jesus.
It is a pleasure to suffer for Jesus!
Ps. 96:2 Sing to the Lord; praise his name.
Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.

Yesterday we talked about you gotta desire it… meaning you gotta seize it and take it. There are no feelings involved.

Deny = GK (absolute surrender)
Its not living as a hermit, but rather choosing not to focus on yourself but rather focusing on what God wants. Its no longer about you… it is not about me anymore!
Freedom comes from not being self absorbed.
but understand denying yourself is for this purpose
When you focus on serving LOVEing REACHING others… you are truly focusing on freedom.
It is a mind shift,
heart shift
and spirit shift.
*Kyla had a hard life… she struggled as a single mother, young kids, financial limitations, No father around, little education, she was overweight, ridiculed as a young woman growing up- she longed for a different life…
Niles had a great life, money, thriving business, marriage, adoring kids, popularity, the esteem of people around him, the cabin, the boat, the vacations people dreamed about… - but he also longed for a different life…
Neither cared if they lived or died… And then both had the same experience that changed their lives.
Fires in their homes… at first overcome by smoke they were ok with just dying. But then they realized they had those they loved that needed to be saved. They coughed, crawled, eyes stinging, flesh burning… knew that had to do whatever it took to get their families out safe…
Instantly in less than a second the the thought of just giving up and dying turned into a tsunami of incredible will and power to LIVE and LIVE for OTHERS.
The secret sauce to Living for God is denying yourself in order to live and love others!

Daily - If you diet one day… zilch
If you work out one day… zilch
If you save money one day… zilch
If you do anything just one day typically it will mean nothing.
Choosing Jesus is a great first step… but it must be done daily.

Becoming a follower of Jesus brings us to one of the greatest paradoxes that the world will ever know
Matthew 16

*Just before this portion of scripture to his disciples Jesus states this it was exactly what he was and is and is going to do. He must suffer many things and then be killed… truly this is losing ones life to live. He gave the example. (Wuest)

One does not simply become a professional fisherman. It is the most dangerous job in the world.
You must know water conditions for fishing,
for the boat,
weather conditions,
be physically fit,
operate heavy machinery,
work with some of the most stubborn people in the world, navigate losing friends year round,
and losing body parts.
Where’s your desire?
I think most just want to fish
and not actually be fishermen/women.
What is your desire to follow Christ?
A one time decision and only when it is easy?
OR
A fisher of men - serving God no matter what!

Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,
Amplified :and let us consider [thoughtfully] how we may encourage one another to love and to do good deeds,
This verse actually leans toward encouraging people we do not know. The word for consider is the word
Ka-ta-NO- eh-O
It means to see beyond what you know into what God is revealing to you.
When The Pharisees tried to trick Jesus on Luke 20:23 it said he perceived their trick… it was revealed to him. We get a spiritual insight into someones life that will encourage them and we may not even know them.
Yesterday at Chipotle with my grandson a man and his wife walk in, he is probably 65. And God shows me over his head the word “mentor” I ask God what that means and said this man has been given an opportunity to mentor young men and he is created for that in this next new chapter in his life. So he goes to walk out…
Now you might say “I want to do that or have that happen to me… I want God to speak to me so I can encourage someone” GREAT- but it starts first in the natural. You walk up to someone you know or don’t know and encourage them. Tell them they have a beautiful smile, that they seem like they are in tune with their kids, that the guy at the market is a hard worker… Tell the guy at the gym he has a great build… Find the good in people and thoughtfully encourage them.
You will quickly find that God will then start to reveal his voice to you in new ways regarding how to encourage someone.
When you feel like God has given you a specific word of encouragement for someone you need to know 3 things.
1`- They may not react the way you want them to. Thats ok, you are doing it for them and not for what you get out of it.
2 - You might be waaaay off on what you say to them. It might be nice and encouraging and even have some specific details… and you might say does that speak to you or does that mean anything to you… and they may say NOPE. Don’t let the disappointment of the moment keep you from staying open to what God wants to do in your life through encouraging others.
3- You might say something and be absolutely right in how you encourage them… and then if you are like me and so many others that i have talked to, you may push it… you might say “Hey I want to encourage you in your relationship with your wife, just keep loving her and let God take care of her past” - they may light up because it is exactly what they needed to hear and so you now have a confidence to speak more… DONT! Not unless you are completely certain it is from God.
The temptation is at that point you now try to really pump them up with your own minds point of view - like - “your marriage will be better than it ever has, you two will be in ministry together, you will have 4 kids who change the world…. NO NO NO NO just encourage them with what you know God put on your heart.
Obedience brings more power and more clarity.
Therefore encourage one another… IN THE LORD… not in you!

A Winthrop Arkansa Man jumped out of a passenger window of a car moving at 60 mph, being severely injured. He jumped out to retrieve his cigarette that someone had thrown out the window… when asked what he was thinking he stated I live in a car and typically get in and out through the window… I guess I was just to use to it. Now you may call that stupid, but I call it stagnant.
Erwin M. Soukup has compiled what he terms “The Seven Steps to Stagnation”:
1. We’ve never done it that way before.
2. We’re not ready for that.
3. We are doing all right without trying that.
4. We tried it once before.
5. We don’t have money for that.
6. That’s not our job.
7. Something like that can’t work.
Soukup admits that “there’s probably an eighth step, but we’ve never looked
it up before.”
But what exactly is stagnation? I believe it is truly as simple as being out of balance. You are stuck in one place… and you might say “well that sounds like balance to me”. No really, not at all. Because you are saying that it is never moving, and never moving does not mean balance, it means you are stuck. If I have a scale and it never moves no matter what I put on it… thats not balance, that is error. I need to learn to see stagnation in my life as error - not balance.
Larry Osborne asks the question in his book Contrarians guide to knowing God. Is there anything so out of balance in my life that it is harming my health, relationships or walk with God? Again if you are feeling stagnant, you are out of balance. Lets get back to that scale again. There are two types of scales we use when we weigh ourselves. The one where we stand on it and the numbers just show up on the screen. And then there is the type we see at the doctors. It has weights and measures on it and everytiome someone stands on it they have to slide the two weights around playing with them until the arm is perfectly parallel and balanced. That is what our lives should look like each day when we get up. God you are the weights and your word moves them. What do I need to do to become balanced today, this week, this month and this year. What do I need to do to be balanced in life. Is there stagnation in my life… am I stepping on the scale and holding the arm in place on my own because its comfortable. Look it would be nice if we got on the scale and could control it… and actually we could… but as nice as it would be, it would also be dangerous. you don’t want to be your own balance keeper.
We talk a lot as Christians about Repentance but not a lot about Change. There is no repentance without change. Repentance is simply stating to God… Hey I don’t want to change, and I need your help to change. Im stuck, will you unstuck me. And if you are willing to trust and obey him, he will in fact unstuck you.
