Joe Bezotte is a bad man… anyone with the initials JB is a bad mama gamma you got James Bond, Jason Bourne and of course Justin Bieber…
But we were talking and he did a survey amongst law enforcement from CIA, FBI, Sherif departments, police departments etc… across the country and found out that when it came to scuffles or run in’s with people who did not want to cooperate and of course you had to get hands on.. that very few of these ever went to the ground and in fact more than 90% stayed on their feet. But he was surprised at how much training people received with grappling, jiu jitsu etc… and that is all good when you are in the octagon, but in real life it was not transferable to what was going to keep you alive.
I kept thinking about us in our world today. There is so much chatter out in the world be it sermons and pastors or social media or even worship songs and the like that don’t really train us for what we really need.
So what am I saying… well I just like you read and pray and believe for Gods best in my life. Yes I believe God wants to bless me, keep me healthy strong, to have my family flourish and my finances increase and I can pray for those and believe in those and its all good, but its all a ground game.
Lets not forget we are in a spiritual battle and my war is not with those but with greed, pride, lust, insecurity, doubt and I think we could fill in a whole podcast with more, but you get the picture.
So what is my real life spiritual stand up game when it comes to warfare. How should one train….
Well first and foremost in real fighting you understand that it is the unexpected you must train for. You must keep your distance from the threat and be ready at all times… just like in my real spiritual battle.
I get in a tizzy with my wife and I go to work and the hot underdressed assistant is hanging over my desk…
Or I am stressed with finances and its Sunday and the offering plate is fastly approaching, or Bill at work starts spouting off with his accolades and i want to point out he is on his 3rd marriage and can’t even hit a months goals of business in a year…
Yep, my war is real, it is a real ground game… and I am guessing yours is as well. So what to do?
I prepare with scripture that I can use right now.
Lust, greed, insecurity, stress, lack of passion for Christ, bitterness… The bible is full of verses that I can read, memorize and even write down on sticky pads and put in my car, my desk, my mirror, my phone etc…
In fact right now the desk I am sitting at has about 10 verses taped on my desk with clear packing tape so i can always see it, or should I say never miss it.
The ground game is were the real battle and the real victory is at. Yeah, I want to pray for health, blessing, honor, increase… and there is nothing wrong with that- but that my friend needs less attention than what I really need. So go to the bible, or even google if you have a hard time, but find scriptures that train your mind and your heart for battle.

The disciples go out and are doing amazing things… Jesus says what is really amazing is when your name gets written down in the book of life - YOU WANT TO GET MY ATTENTION… SAVE THE LOST
Luke 15:7 Heaven will erupt in joy when a sinner comes to Jesus
*NOT WHEN YOU HEAL, CAST OUT DEMONS, GIVE WORDS OF PROPHECY, GIVE MONEY, ATTEND CHURCH
I want to make God laugh
I wan to make God laugh
Not just a chuckle where the teeth roll over each other like waves
I want to make God laugh
The gut bubbly jocular tumble of fat the ricochets of the belt
I want him to wipe the tear from his eye as he sucks in more air
Blasting out more chortles and snorts then a sparkler in the hands of a 4 year old
I want a cool sweat to break out as his face reddens and his cheeks tighten
Smiling so hard that his face cramps, his dimples harden and he hopes you stop with your Ringling brother behavior (but only for a moment)
I want to make God laugh
When he mentions my name I want it to shoot out with stories
The way he shot the stars into the sky
From his own mouth as if he can’t stop thinking of new tales… even as he tells his best
I want the one true Deity to wheeze with mirth as he says no more… no more… I am going to wet my pants
Toss those yellow shorts down into hell along with 3 feathers
There will be more
I want to make God laugh
I want God to laugh in the presence of others while they all laugh together, laughing at my spiritual heroics with only their laughter being heard.
Laugh if you will
But I want the heavens to break their silence as God squeals and squawks and boisterously gets his own little giggle on
Is there a little girl now in charge of the universe?…no, its God laughing again
I want angels wings to ruffle as they hear God Laugh
Wishing they knew this garth, small “g”, this man, a mere mortal? How is he wired to have this effect on God?
Another soul
Another building project
Will mansions never cease?
God’s laughing again
At his big table with his guests and the wine poured
Waiting… expecting… trusting
Boom there goes another party
Sin the punch line of another joke
Laughter erupts the ground ripples and another notch is carved into the belt of hope
All this for one sheep
All this for one coin
All this for one boy
All this… and more
I want to make God laugh
I want to pull my proverbial finger from the proverbial hole in the oh so real damned-nation
I want the laughter to roll bursting over the rocks creasing through every pebble
I want to drown in Gods joy
Some want to BE God,
PLAY God,
CURSE God
As if it matters
Some just want to swerve oh so close to him as if he were an orange pylon marking a pothole in the universe
But it’s no laughing matter

Follow my dad in the woods when we were hunting, he would just almost run… My legs are shorter, I am in the woods, there are hungry animals in the woods, I do not know where I am at and it’s freezing out - You can’t lose me. I will follow no matter what it takes.

I think its fair to say that many times we think it will be easier to follow as we become like him, but here it states that if we simply follow him, his ways, his words, his voice- we will become like him.
MY POINT IS… we think it will be easier to follow him if we wait to somehow supernaturally become like him, and yet its more about simply doing what he says will make us more like him.
Are you going to be more like someone by reading about them and studying them or waiting for them to instruct you…or is it simply a matter of hanging out with them and doing what they do… I think you know the answer. Lets do it!

- Its a mandate - a command - a necessity
Matt. 28:18-20
18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
All Authority - I am giving you an order as the one in charge of everything.
AND…
If you are a disciple you are making disciples, and if you are making disciples you are a disciple… what?
YOU MIGHT SAY TO ME “PASTOR THIS SAYS TO MAKE DISCIPLES, ITS NOT A COMMAND THAT I HAVE TO BE A DISCIPLE” - That might be the problem.
In that culture - to make disciples meant you were taking the command of being a disciple.

Walking out of Sams last week: Tortilla chips, nuts, milk, cheese, yogurt - an older man comes up to me as I am leaving to tell me of a recipe… put the chips in the oven with cheese on them… and some even use taco sauce.
AIN’T NOTHING NEW ABOUT THAT… BUT I WAS DRIVING HOME AND I WAS HUNGRY…

We see the disciples early start
Man with Leprosy - don’t tell anyone
Roman centurion - heal my servant
Peters mother in law
AND WE SEE THE OBVIOUS
Matthew 8:23-27 The Storm - So little faith
BUT THEN THEY SEE….
casts out demons
Heals the leader of the synagogue’s daughter
Jesus heals blind and demonic
He gives the disciples authority to heal, cast, deliver
John the baptists disciples affirm Jesus
Jesus heals on the sabbath a deformed hand
Jesus heals a blind and demon possessed man
Jesus feeds 5000/15-20K
Jesus walks on water-Peter walks on water
Jesus heals the masses and many healed by touching his garment
Jesus heals the Gentile woman’s daughter and even says “no greater faith”
Then Jesus heals the masses again, sick, blind, crippled, afflicted, demonic lame
Jesus feeds 4000/15000 more
Peter declares Jesus is the Messiah
The transfiguration - Peter James and John hang out with Elijah and Moses AND HEAR A VOICE FROM HEAVEN SAY “THIS IS MY DEARLY LOVED SON, WHO BRING BE GREAT JOY, LISTEN TO HIM”

He is worthy
Daniel 3:17-19
17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will rescue us from your hand, O king. 18 But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods nor worship the golden statue that you have set up.”

19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with wrath, and his facial expression was changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. He answered by giving orders to heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
King Nebby declares war on Israel and besieges Jerusalem, he steals stuff, he takes the best of the best and if you are Shad Shack and Benny… things are ok, they might even say “Our God made things good for us, and kept us safe… he is our secret sauce, our steroid”
Most of us would agree at that point in our life if we were them, we would agree to this sentiment “this is why you serve God, because he will take care of us- he will bless us”.
But then things don’t go so well… The worship practice and the culture of life changes beyond what they expected.
Now they must worship the king…
There was a problem in the last 20 years where we sold followers of Christ - wether we meant to or not - that we serve God because of his attributes.
How many young adults I have run into that now feel burned because…
They worked for a church and the pastor was a turd
They wanted to be the next Worship phenom and they weren’t
Their parents who were “Christians” got a divorce
I didn’t get the job at the big church
I didn’t get the husband, the wife,
I didn’t get the supernatural power to heal…
I didn’t get the Ministry
Rev. 4:8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!”
Worthy of veneration = worthy of exclusive service and worship.
Worthy - PERIOD! For no other reason than he is worthy. He is worth it!
One thing we do not understand is that we are not here on earth for the sake of life on earth - Life on earth is just bootcamp for our eternal calling and work in eternity.
Scripture is clear that we will work in heaven and we will be rewarded for our deeds while here on earth.
So we know whatever it is God gives us, it will be something resulting in great joy. Maybe it will be different for each of us, who knows? But there is a reason to believe God has a particular way of rewarding his beloved.
It appears God enjoys rewarding his Children with increased and valuable roles of responsibility!
Ephesians 3:16-21 Reveal your love for me… help me understand how worthy you are of my life.
I have the belief that God wants me blessed, healthy, financially blessed, great marriage, fruitful ministry…
But I also understand that if none of that happens I will still worship him.
Daniel 1:8 He set in place in his heart.. to never move.
Set in his heart, mind, soul, spirit
Remember Christ word: love me heart, mind soul spirit.
let me ask you a question: how attractive is a gospel presentation… hey life might suck, it may get worse… but God is worth living for.

37 years of marriage and a total of 40 years together. It was not always easy… hey she married me right?
We have been through massive challenges with adjusting to family history, expectations, money problems even bankruptcy, cancers, broken necks and paralysis, brain tumors, deaths in our immediate families- tragic horrendous deaths, major dealings with our boys, even dealing with jail and police calls and more… drug addiction, health scares with our grandkids, being fired from a church, changing jobs… look life is not easy for anyone - please don’t think it has been easy for us to stay married because we had an easy life. Far from it!
But what have I learned… well relying on Jesus alone, has not been enough. Now you might say… what? But I mean I have to do the work. Like Paul says “Faith without works is dead”. Your marriage is dead in the water… bloating, floating and stinking up the place if you are not willing to work on your marriage… how do you do that?
Well first work on yourself. By that I DON’T MEAN.. working on your physical body getting buff, nor do I mean working on your goals so you are more wealthy, faster car, bigger house, more toys etc… I don’t mean working on your skill set… you know be a better communicator, better boss, more skilled at a hobby or skill or talent…
NOPE NOPE NOPE
I mean working on you! How is your emotional ability to handle anger, conflict, surprises that are not fun.
How is your prayer life with Jesus? Are you more intimate? Does he speak more clearly to you. Are you more obedient?
Do you know your weaknesses better? Are you more accountable to those weaknesses? Do you have others in your life that keep you accountable at being a better husband and father?
Have you taken steps to care for your spouse better emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually?
Can you honestly say you are glad you are not as immature and selfish as you were 5 years ago? 10 years ago? 20 years ago? 35 years ago?
The truth is, the better YOU version you become as a servant, humble, loving, giving the better a spouse you become.
You can have it all, have it made, have it together and still be the worst spouse in the world. If all you live for is to please yourself and gratify yourself- life pretty simple and you don’t really have to grow much. oh you may have to learn new skills, and persevere and push through for your goals… but you can still be a turd to be married to - and that goes for men and women.
You see as a pastor and a counselor everyone talks about what it takes to have a great marriage, or what are the tools, or HOW to have a great marriage.
The truth is no one has a great marriage all the time…
You just choose not to bail
You choose to work on you more than your marriage
You choose to not keep track of others wrongs, but rather your wrongs and your attitude crap and you go to God with it.
Look I found the greatest house in the world. it is absolutely fantastic. it is in Hawaii on the ocean, deep green rich landscape, beautiful vegetation, the sea life and the animals.. it is paradise. Plus the weather and views of the ocean… I cannot believe I landed this house… but there is a problem… sometimes the weather gets bad… and you never know when. There have been times where it has ruined some of the vegetation and even done damage to the house… sometimes it gets so hot that the air conditioner doesn’t even help. And there have been a few times where I have gotten stung by jellyfish in the ocean… and rumor has it there are even sharks out there.
… So I am going to move. Everyone else seems to have a great house and they are not affected by what I am. So I will go find another geographical place to live with a house that is not affected by weather and the outside elements.
Look do you get what I am saying? When I picked out my wife and she said yes… I would have been a fool to think that we would never have problems, issues, heartaches, disagreements and all out fights… but if I work on me and not just move- I can live there for ever.
Working on your marriage is overrated…work on yourself and watch the magic happen!

So how do the mighty fall?
Deception comes before DESTRUCTION.
REVIEW Steps…
Choosing to not fight - we are at war
Seeking peace over purpose - Peer pressure, personality, sincerity Spirit/Truth, media influence
Deception - false sense of peace and self righteousness
Perversion - Now the demonic gets involved because you chose to walk in deception
False worship -
Destruction - If not corrected you fall and affect others
subtle little erosions in your faith and belief in God and his word that will cause a fall and ultimately a destruction.
So how do we recover from the fall?
To the church of Ephesus
Rev. 2:4-5 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
I. REMEMBER
Remember what new love is like?
Remember how in love you used to be?
Are you as in love with Jesus as you once were?
Just as when a man and woman fall in love, so also new believers rejoice at their newfound forgiveness. But when we lose sight of the seriousness of sin, we begin to lose the thrill of our forgiveness (see 2 Peter 1:9).
I Peter 1:9 But those who fail to develop these virtues are blind or, at least, very shortsighted. They have already forgotten that God has cleansed them from their old life of sin.
II. REPENT
I JOHN 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.
Mathew 6 The Lords prayer
Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors….
Confession and repentance of sin are a constant mark of the person walking in the light of fellowship with God.
III. REPEAT
IF A FRIEND ASKED YOU WHAT THEY SHOULD DO TO GET THE FIRE BACK IN THEIR LIFE - WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO DO? - You would probably tell them to do what you used to do when you were on fire for God.
Jesus does not say to read your bible more, go to church more, give more, sacrifice more, serve more… AND THOSE MIGHT BE A PART OF WHAT YOU REPEAT - But the point he makes is go back to being obedient to the voice of God - like you were when you first believed.

Romans 1:18-31
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth (Kahteko - hold back the truth, You know it, you just simply choose not to live it anymore) in unrighteousness OR WICKEDNESS (Adakia - not living in Gods way in heart or life), 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
Warning signs that you might start to wane in your walk:
Lack of joy
Feel like your Xn walk is based solely on discipline
Lack of compassion for the lost
Misplaced anger towards God
