Maybe it should be “Actions reveal the truth behind words”

Words today are amplified by social media. the right font, the right video, the right music, the right cliche… But where is the action? 

No matter how powerful the speaker, the words chosen, the eloquence and the manner to which they speak, no matter how impactful they seem and no matter what promises are made.. no matter what great change has been promised or what great past accolades have been touted… words mean nothing… they are stupid, they are lies! They lie… unless there is action. 

 

Simply put, it means that what people do carries more weight than what they say. In other words, people are judged not by what they say they will do but by what they do. This phrase is particularly relevant today when we receive countless messages and promises from individuals and institutions.

 

Look there are businesses out there who are searching, literally searching for people who DO. Think of it, the highest demand is not for those who have a great resume, or those who make grand promises… but for those who DO. Companies lose billions of dollars every year because they trusted people who say and don’t’ do. 

Its the same in the lives of people who say they are Christian. Much said, little done. If you truly believe in scripture than you should be the most active, fearless and productive people in your home, job and church. 

 

Here is a good question to ask yourself… if you talk a good talk, but you know deep down in your heart you don’t really follow through, you know its just talk… what do you get out of it? A good question.

What do you get from just a life of words and no action?

 

Hey we have all seen the parent talk smack or talk repercussions to their teen. Keep it up and you will have to deal with…. But then it never happens. What would happen if you just never told your kids what will happen but you just did it. They talk back and you take their phone for a day, they don’t do their homework they don’t get the car, they don’t clean their room they have their gaming taken away… but you never tell them in advance, you just do it. Believe it or not- if you start this from a young age, your kids will grow up incredibly successful. They will have proof number one that actions have consequences… and not words - I hope you caught that.

But even deeper still… back to our question of what do you get out of talking but not acting. 

So here is something I found helpful… and I am not sure all the psychology that is behind this, but it works.

When I have a big goal, when I really want something done… I tell no one, When challenged or encouraged to talk about my accomplishments or my goals… I say nothing, when given windows in which I can share about all that I will do, could do, want to do, or working on doing… I SAY NOTHING. And it motivates me with this one thought… I will say nothing unless I have actually done that act in which they are talking about.

How many times have I heard people say “Im thinking about writing a book”. And I say WHO CARES. Why do I say that? Because no one other than your mother cares… just write the book. I say that having written 12 books… no one cared about my “im writing a book… talk” until I actually wrote the book.

 

1 John 3:18:“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth”

 

 

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22

James 2:17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Matt. 5:16 May they see your works

They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work. Titus 1:6

These verses are an admonition of being seen by a lack of action, not by a lack of talking… 

The Legacy Investment

TDA

If you are a man who has a son, congratulations. You have something that should not be wasted. You have in your possession a great opportunity - something to invest that will pay dividends beyond the scope of any other investment. You have riches that will exceed your time here on earth. If you do not waste it. You have a son… that makes you a father. You now have the opportunity to be a FATHER… what an amazing piece of raw material in your possession in which to forge an eternity with, for God. 

How does one invest into that eternity - that legacy?

I think there are 3 things we see in scripture.

Provide - Provide for them. Their body, soul and spirit. live, walk, talk, act, exemplify a man who provides for his kids. It is not enough to just provide food, water and a roof over their head. You must provide for them emotionally, mentally, socially.. be and live the example.   Pour into them in all aspects of who they are as humans and spiritual beings. Do you provide hugs, kisses, encouragement, verbal affection, I love YOU’s and the like? If not then might I be so bold as to say you suck as a provider. You are not taking your investment into the future very seriously. 

 

Protect - Maybe you are not the toughest dad on the block… thats fine. but you do have to protect your legacy - that is your children… is your house safe? Oh yes, I have a gun in my bedroom… thats not what I mean.

Will they find porn in your house, on your phone, will they hear you yell at your wife or treat her with the cold shoulder? Will they see a dusty bible? Will they know and see that you are involved in Church life? Will they hear you gossip and bad mouth others or the pastor or their friends…. these things make or break a safe protective home. Are your kids safe to share their fears, their dreams, their hopes and questions? You may have a house surrounded by a mote, guns galore and you may be a blackbelt in Karate - but if your kid doesn’t  feel safe and protected emotionally… You failed.

 

 

Preview - show them what a Godly father looks like. Here is a tough question if you are willing to answer it gut wrenchingly honest… Would you desire your kids to have the same intimacy with Jesus as you do? Would you be happy if they had the same faith in God? the same prayer life? New the bible as well as you did? 

Do you pray before meals? Do they see you pray for direction with problems, opportunities or for the world. Do they see you share the gospel, love those who hate you, give sacrificially? If I asked your kids, help me write a movie script about how Godly your dad is… would they be able to come up with any stories… or would it be one of those movies that starts out with “partially based on a true events”… meaning- there is a whole lot of filler going on in here? But my dad does call himself a Christian… so we’ll just fill in the blanks.

 

You are blessed to be a Dad, you have an incredible investment opportunity… but you gotta provide, protect and preview…

Just be Perfect

Hebrews 12:1-3

1B and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Matt. 5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Philippians 3:12

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

 

Perfecter of our faith… what does that mean? It means Christ set before us an example of what perfect faith looks like and what we should strive for…

Someone recently said “ministry is saying yes to that which you are not qualified for -outside of your intimacy with God… it got me thinking. 

If you were looking at a graph and on the far left side was levels of intimacy bottom low end, top high end

and across the bottom right ran the purity scale

Your graph would climb in power as you grew in purity. This is what Hebrews is saying…

He is the perfecter of our faith… our faith is motivated and empowered by the purity and perfection in our walk. but what also do these verses say? Jesus is at the right hand of the father - and we know he is interceding for us and he is the example to us to not give up. It is still dependent on our pursuit of Jesus. 

Sometimes we think faith comes simply by hearing - and yes that is true, but we also see that there is a perfecting to our faith… so we have faith, but there is a perfecting to that faith.

A little faith with perfection is greater than a lot of faith with little perfection…Remember Jesus words, faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain.

What am I trying to say? I have great faith, I really do, but I know if there is sin in my life I am playing with dirty faith… and it is pretty pathetic. If I have very little faith but I know I am intimate with Jesus and my walk is pure… it is much more powerful. 

Would you rather light a bomb with a tiny bit of dry gun powder or a whole bucket of wet gun powder… make sense? 

So lets take where we are at and ask God to help perfect our faith… and lets see that little bit of faith move mountains. 

Maybe today we worry not so much about our faith but about our perfection… how are we doing on the purity scale? Would it be wise to pray for more of Gods perfection and purity than to simply pray for more faith.

7 Behavior Battle Plans

Change = repent

Repent is less of an emotional response and actually more of a practical response by what we see in scripture. 

Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

 

to change one's mind or purpose/behavior with abhorrence to ones past. 

 

So its not just a spiritual response, its not just an emotional response… it is actually changing ones mind and behavior…

But what is the best way to change ones behavior?

Well Repentance is first… crying out to God asking for forgiveness… but now what. What are some practical ways? 

I will give you 7 quick ways to think and work on. 

 

1 Pick one behavior that will change more than just your behavior…

Lose weight or work out… this changes many things and not just the one behavior itself.

Healthier, feel better, boost self esteem, look better, more energy, it might help you better find that special person, builds self discipline for other areas… One behavior with many blessings. 

 

2 Next… pick just one behavior you want to change.

My clients who I train want me to train them, give them a routine for the other days they are home, give them a diet etc… I say NO. Lets just work out 2 or 3 days a week and make that a normal behavior. your CNS can only handle on major change at a time… so don’t make it harder than it should be. 

 

3 make it measurable… Now again make the measuring stick easy to manage. if you are going to work out… don’t build into the behavior, work out, lose 30 pounds, fit into that little black dress. Just make the behavior work out 3 times a week. One simple measurable goal… if you measure to many things or make it to complicated you will feel overwhelmed and give up. 

 

4 Envision it before it ever happens… yes this is called faith. But envision you pushing through the days you want to give up, envision the way you will feel when it happens, envision the stories you will tell… envision teaching others how you did it… as Victor Frankl said “find your why”. live the whole experience before it ever happens. 

Wether it is getting out of debt, saving for a house, rebuilding a relationship, reading your bible every day… see it, feel it, taste it. 

 

5 Expect and plan for interruptions. It is called planning for chaos… its normal, its expected, it’s life. So why would you not expect it? 

You know why most people fail? They don’t plan for failure! 

 

6 Activate mental peer pressure

Outward peer pressure is good… but inner mental peer pressure is even better. It is the peer pressure that has not yet happened. Let me explain… I will never have an affair… why? I have deep seated mental peer pressure… 

Pro.6:32He who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself. 33Wounds and dishonor will befall him, and his reproach will never be wiped away.

There are people in my life and network who have messed up greatly with adultery, pornography etc… and they are now “that guy”. I don’t like these people, I love them…but I don’t like them. I do not want to be looked at like the people I don’t like. I don’t want to carry reproach that will never be wiped away… I never want to always be that guy?

 

7 Get a mentor

Best way to change your behavior is to hang around those who are already practicing that behavior.

If you could have any super power what would it be?

 

Make people tell the truth, but that doesn’t always help . In fact that’s a strategy by Satan 

 

Satan lies with the truth

 

Misleading by telling the truth…

Did you finish your homework? I just finished my english paper… feels good to be done.

 - Dissemble to hide under false appearance.

White on black crime is a problem that affects all black americans. Crime on any person is a problem, and black on black crime is by far a greater risk to blacks than white on black crime. 

 - Paltering… you say something true and then lead it into a false conclusion. Rape is evil, it is a wrong that women will forever struggle with. This affects every woman and is why we need to keep abortion legal. Women have rights…

Paltering - yes its evil, yes women who are raped will struggle with it - it does not affect EVERY woman and is not the reason they want to keep abortion legal. 

 

Satan is a great liar, maybe the best. 

 - Eve - Surely you will not die, God doesn’t want you like him, you will know good and evil. This is a classic example of all 3 of satans tactics…

 - Jesus - Jump off this temple mount and nothing will happen to you, God will protect you… true, but underneath the false narrative. 

 - You - You are a sinner… YEP! and then he lies about our future, our hope, our eternity

 

You see The accuser doesn’t tell the whole truth. Ie you are a sinner - true

But…

We are forgiven by Christ death and Rez

So what is the best strategy to satans lies? Knowing the whole truth. 

What is the whole truth..

 - The word - Scripture, Psalm 119:160, NKJV The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

 - The witness- (the Holy spirit) Jn. 16:13-15 He will guide us into all truth

 - The way (Jesus himself) Jesus is the way the truth and the life -time with Jesus is time with the truth. 

Spend time with all three and you will rarely if ever be deceived.

Part 2 

Satan exercises his limited authority and dominion by way of a hierarchy, in different geographical regions, and in a militaristic fashion or strategy.

In Matthew 4, Satan legitimately offers Jesus the kingdoms of the world. 

Plural… kingdoms… there are certain levels and kingdoms that satan has a limited power over. 

Satan exercises his otherworldly dominion by way of a hierarchical, geographical, and militaristic strategy.

You can see this most dramatically in Ephesians 6

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places

SO there are multiple layers to satans power… there are hierarchies like in the military, there are different geographical regions, and different military types of attacks…

But notice the next few verses.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth (The truth to see through the strategies of satan), having put on the breastplate of righteousness (again to see through his strategies), 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel (no matter where you go geographically you bring the peace of God) of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. (you can defend against his actual attacks) 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; (so now we have Gods fighting plan and his weapon to do warfare) 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

What in the Hell (and earth) is satans power

should you and I be terrified of Satan? No. His power is limited and will end. We never need to be deceived by or give in to the Devil’s temptations. God is always ready to provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).

 

But When you ask what power satan has its tricky to understand because he actually has very little, but he does have authority over the world right now, and he also knows we live in a sinful world… so the fact that he has authority over the world, and we live in a sinful world (death, decay, sickness and disease work in his favor) and he is a master liar… makes this world hard to navigate…

However we do have power over the enemy… hold on I thought you said he had authority over the earth… he has limited authority for a limited time…but we still have power over him to rule and reign… even while here on earth. 

Think of it this way… Jesus was the first example of what a “born again” believer should be like. He came as a man, led by and empowered by the Holy Spirit… he lived victoriously and with power over sin and satan… so what exactly is satans powers while he has authority over the earth… limited? yes, but what power does he actually have during this time? 

I like the way RC Sproul puts it….

Satan’s authority and power are limited and subordinate to the authority that is vested in Christ. Christ right now is the king of this earth. His kingdom is invisible, and not everybody acknowledges it. People are giving more allegiance to the prince of darkness than to the Prince of Peace, but that is an act of usurpation on the part of Satan. His power is restricted, limited, and temporal. What has happened briefly is this: The power and authority of Satan has been dealt a fatal blow by Christ. The Cross, the Incarnation, the Resurrection, and the Ascension tremendously weakened any power or authority that Satan enjoyed, but it didn’t annihilate him. That will come later, when Christ completes his work of redemption with the consummation of his kingdom. All things will be brought into captivity to him, and every knee will bow to him, including the fallen angels, who will bow in submission to his authority.

Are you confused yet? Well here is the biggest power satan has… he is a liar! 

 

Satan is a liar. The apostle John calls Satan the one “who deceives the whole world” (Revelation 12:9). 

THAT MEANS WE ALL FALLL TO HIS DECEPTIONS AT TIMES… 

The devil and his demons tell two main lies to unbelievers and two primary lies to believers.

Here’s the lie to unbelievers:

1. “God doesn’t care about sin. In fact, there might not even be a God. Live your life and do as you please.”
2. “You are too bad for God to ever love and forgive you. You are doomed. Just accept it. - in fact he doesn’t even really care about you… he’s too busy, he is out of range out of touch. 

But to believers, the devil and his demons say:

1. “You’ve been saved, so it doesn’t matter how much you sin. You can do what you want. Don’t worry, because God will forgive you.”… and its true, but not true… yes you are forgiven… but does that mean you are untouched and unjudgable? And do you think you can’t lose your salvation… I don’t think you can lose it, but I do think you can walk away from it. 
2. “You just thought you were saved. Do you really think God can forgive all the bad things you’ve done?” Satan lies to us regarding Gods ability to forgive, and redeem… as if his work on the cross was limited…

Do you see the similarities between these two sets of lies? The devil may be deceptive and sinister, but he’s not that creative. His essential motive is to get you to believe that God is not the answer to your problem with sin.

 

Satan is not dumb, but he is stupid. He’s not powerful but he is authoritative, he is not creative - he cannot create, but he can copy and mimic to perfection… but its still a copy… it is still a fake and a forgery. 

So what is our defense… well if his true power or strategy is to lie… then our best defense is to know the truth…

what does scripture say in John 8:31 and 32

 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

We are to be in his word and know it, and we are to know Jesus who is the truth… and the truth will set you free…

This is not talking about salvation, but rather about freedom from satans lies.

Know him, know it and be free from the liar and his lies.

 

It aint rocket surgery

INTRO: With Certain jobs it helps greatly or may even require a certain Pedigree and intelligence, genetic disposition… but not with money, and not with spiritual authority and power

 

Just about anybody can become rich by doing the basics…

Just about anybody can become intimate, powerful and anointed by God simply by doing the basics…

I have worked for ministers, who crashed and burned, their kids crashed and burned, their grandkids crashed and burned… they had every opportunity to be a Crusher in the Kingdom of God… but they never learned the basics…

 

Why are people so willing to spend time going to church, going to seminars, going to conferences, listening to podcasts, making friends with the super spirituals… Involved in lots of eye catching ministries… willing to spend time on these tasks… Because it is more glamorous and seemingly more fruitful than just reading praying and obeying…

It’s like the get rich quick scheme… they almost if ever work out… but its more glamorous then taking 5% of your income out of every check and investing it in a simple account with compound interest. and being a millionaire in 30 years… its more glamorous than spending 5% of your time reading praying and obeying God every day….

 

 

What does the Book of Colossians cover and how does Paul end this letter…

 - FALSE TEACHING

 - Heretical philosophies

 - Varying opinions on how to get to please God

 - Demands and practices you must agree to

AND WHAT IS PAULS INSTRUCTION

 

He says vote republican… NOPE

Buy more ammo… Nope

Yell and scream at the idiots…NOPE

Post your pompous attitude on social media …NOPE

 

 

V. 2-4 GK - constant prayer, constant thanksgiving and constant alertness for constant ways God will use you to share the gospel…OR BE THE GOSPEL

THUS…

Pray for me so that I know how to share the gospel and don’t miss those moments! 

 

v. 2 Pray - intense face to face conversation, focused & aware

BUT NOT AWARE IN THE MINDSET OF SATAN IS AFTER US… OR AWARE OF THE END TIMES… BUT

Having a male gynecologist is like going to an auto mechanic that doesn't own a car.

 

Matthew 22: 34 Jesus shuts the Sadducees up… literally just shuts them down… and at that point the pharisees who were near by should have just nodded and gone about their business… but they just can’t help themselves…they think they are smarter than everybody else… and even smarter than this guy called Jesus… thats a problem.

So they love to argue… even tho they make no sense whatsoever… is this starting to sound familiar… I identify as a woman… well you can pee standing up so Im not sure… “Im a woman - how dare you call me anything other than a woman”. This person is at heart someone who likes to argue even though they are stupid… much like the pharisees…

But when the pharisees do test Jesus… he does not argue, he simply quotes scripture. Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul. 

But here is the trick the pharisees used that people today use… They argue as if they are on the side of love, peace, support, kindness….

Listen…

To talk of love and peace and acceptance without dealing with sin, and separation always leads to deception. REPEAT…

The world screams love and peace… how dare we not love the person… oh we do, enough so that we also talk about their sin and separation from God.

But JESUS LOVES EVERYBODY… HE DOES… ENOUGH TO JUDGE THEM

John 5: 22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,

v. 27 and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.

WHEN YOU find yourself in a confrontation of ideals and values and opinions… save the argument and love the person enough to simply quote scripture… you may be surprised at how things turn out.

The only passion some people have in life are there problems - its the only thing in their life that they feel gives them any power. weird right?  But where does power come from…. before you answer that you better listen up - because thats where were going today!

 

 

Exciting things coming up… truly thinking about joining the MMM and TDA together in a new ministry for men, young women and married couples. If you got ideas or if you are interested in joining me - I need help with some on fire single adults who are willing to speak the truth to young adults… but you gotta walk the talk, and be willing to take it on the chin. You better be a on fire Xn who’s morality cannot be bought and you are practicing abstinence until either Jesus comes back or your spouse says I do and the preacher announces you husband and wife! 

 

Matthew 10:

7As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ 8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. 9

Cognate: 1432 dōreán(the adverbial form of 1431/dōrea) – something freely done (as gratis), i.e. without "cause"; unearned (undeserved); freely given (without cost) hence not done out of mere obligation or compulsion. See 1431 (dōrea).

 

If you don’t know its free you won’t act like its free, you won’t give it away like its free, you won’t use it like its free, you will act like you had to earn it, buy it, you will hoard it, you will be surprised when it shows up. 

 

If you feel like in anyway you earned it, deserved it or it might not always be there when you need it… you will find it harder and harder to give it away… and that which you do give away will be from you and not God and will have very little if any power. 

 

Don’t miss this insight… God in these verses has give us an assignment that we cannot fulfill without knowing that his resources are free to us and free to give. Unless you truly understand that they are free- you will have a hard time fulfilling your mission as a follower of Christ. 

Many of us when it comes to money have a poverty mindset… we spend and we give with a “how do i save, scrimp, make it, how do I get by… if I give this will I have enough for me”.

We can do the same with Gods power… we think I do not have all the power and authority I should have because I have not prayed enough, I have sinned - I have not met the requirements that I feel I needed to pay out in order to have his power freely given”.

There is only one requirement I see in these verses and through out scripture… preach the gospel. Tell people about Jesus and his power will freely flow out of you. 

Want more of Gods power and authority in your life… well prayer is good, so is scripture and meditation and church attendance… but it does not earn what is freely given. Step out in the gospel and watch the power freely flow out of you.
