Lou Gehrig vs. Babe Ruth
Babe Ruth was the most untapped potential and possibly the worst example of an athlete or idol.
Breakfast - had a quart of bourbon and ginger ale in order to wash down the steak, up to a dozen eggs and potatoes he ate every morning.
The Boston Post reported that according to Ruth's wife, almost every day, he ate "two-and-a-half pounds of rare beef steak" with a whole bottle of chili sauce. He would eat two massive dinners with two gigantic snacks in between. Each dinner consisted of two porterhouse steaks, a double-order of cottage-fried potatoes, two heads of lettuce, and two apple pies a la mode. Both "snacks" were made up of four hot dogs and four bottles of Coca-Cola.
His temperament was not much better than his eating habits. He openly bullied and mocked smaller men in stature- making them the butt of jokes. He was a womanizer and more than once had women threaten him and come after him for what he did to them or how he treated them.
He fought with fans, with teammates, with umpires and with the commissioner of baseball.
He never exercised, he ate like a pig and lived life solely off of his pure genetic talent.
Some call him the greatest… but he truly could have been the greatest… of any athlete anywhere in any time of history if he had not insulted his talent with sheer disdain.
people argue over what he could have done if he had eaten right, exercised, learned to control his fury and what could have truly happened to the Yankees if he had learned to encourage and teach his teammates… they could have had a run much like the NBA Bulls with MJ or even longer.
You only have so much time and so much talent. Do you mock it, insult it by not giving your all to what you do and more importantly to who you are?
This of Solomon who much like Babe Ruth had it all. He had all that wisdom, insight, wealth, power, influence and he mocked it by simply using it selfishly for himself. He did amazing things… but only for himself. He could have money to build or buy anything. He could have 2-3 different beautiful women in his bedroom every night - FOR A YEAR - without repeating a single visit from any of them. He had the fear and admonition of the world, he could have harnessed the power of his full capacity and Gods favor to leave an eternal legacy… but he did not. At the end of his life he simply said “vanity vanity what does man gain for all his toil”.
he realizes in this moment what a waste of potential. He had poured out all God had given to him for some cheap applause, a stable of fast horses and even faster women. And at the end of his life he had nothing eternal to show for it.
Everyone has a legacy.
You have a legacy.
Will it be one recorded in Gods diary…
Or will it be used as scratch paper for a to do list in heaven.

People are not happy this week due to the voting outcomes… even if your candidate won, you still look at the country and ask why? How and when is our country going to come back to its senses.
Did you vote? I did, but I did not expect for my vote to make one bit of difference… now before you turn me off just listen to my point.
You cannot find a verse in the bible that says vote for morality and trust your country and your life upon the vote you cast. Is voting biblically technically scriptural… well yes, but voting is not the key.
What is?
You cannot vote morality into existence. The same ways gun laws don’t keep people safe.
So what makes the difference? Again I am not saying don’t vote, but I am saying its not the key.
First and foremost the key is changing people into Christ followers. This starts with prayer and sharing Jesus.
Here’s a question for you… how mad or disappointed does a Christian need to be until they spend as much time praying over the election and praying for the courage to share the gospel as they do worrying.
Voting don’t count if you don’t pray, and if you don’t share the gospel.
here is another clue: if you are that concerned about our country- share Jesus. If you are not comfortable with that, then start getting comfortable living in a sinful, nasty, far left, far satanic country with no morals only group think.
How much time do people waste pushing a candidate, but not pushing Jesus. He is the only hope.
Now lets be clear and real and obvious. I believe we are in the end times… so it is going to get worse, now for sinners they will think just the opposite- it will be fun and partying and good times (thats what scripture says) but for followers of jesus we will live in some dark times.
But as Galatians 6:9 says, let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
We don’t become weary doing good in moral upright times, we become weary in the harsh realities of today. Keep your eyes on the prize… Im in it for the long haul. the harvest will be worth it.

TRS fighting secrets… how to be lethal in a street fight.
Zones:
White: nothing traumatic has happened to you yet. You are the person walking out to their car in the middle of the afternoon in November, wind blowing and you don’t see the person coming at you sideways to rob you. You have no idea of what is coming at you… that is until its to late.
Yellow: You are aware, but only slightly. You have heard of people getting robbed, kidnapped, assaulted, bullied… so you are slightly concerned. Maybe you just had someone get up in your face and scare you a little so now you know it can happen.
Red: you are on constant alert. When someone is walking next to you, in front of you, behind you, across from you… you notice. You are watching, thinking, even smelling for danger. You are thinking of worst case scenario so you can react… the adrenaline is starting to flow.
Black zone: You are in it. You are the cop face to face with a threat. You are a soldier on the front lines. You are letting your adrenaline move you to the fastest way to end this encounter. Its you or them and you are making well sure it is them.
but in his book he is very sure of this one thing… you get to choose what state you walk around in.
you get to choose what type of relationship/Faith you have with Jesus.
- Emergency
- Stand bye
-Casual - you talk to him from time to time
- - Daily - you have your devotional time daily
- Intimate - You push in, more time in the word, prayer, fasting…
Josh. 24:15 Choose ye this day whom you will serve….

Almost 3500 people die a year from a vehicle accident… not from alcohol, not from speeding, not from reckless driving, not from drugs, not from driving poor broken down vehicles… but simply from distracted drivers on their phones.
Escapism… most americans are on their phone 3.5 hours a day and it is simply for an escape. They do not want to tune in to life… but rather looking for a way to not really think about their life. the reality of their life…
If distracted driving costs 3500 people their lives, then distracted living costs millions more their future.
7 characteristics of highly intelligent tuned in people
1 They are clear about their life purpose and values
I know my values, my priorities. Which means I know how to create my own culture to live those out. I get people all the time, and I mean all the time who want me to mentor them, hang out with them, do things with them… and if I give into the majority of those, the culture that I have spent so much time creating is destroyed. So I have to be in tune with my purpose and values… it is what I bounce all of my actions, words off of and what my calendar resembles.
A distracted life is a half ass life and that is what you become… an ASS A-always S-seeking S-Something
2 They cultivate self awareness
What do I need to work on? What do others think I need to work on? What are my weaknesses? What do those closest to me say are my weaknesses?
A tuned out life is unaware of what is stopping them.
3 They show empathy
our world is filled with indifference. We think not caring is some type of super power. We spew things out of our phone or computer to let others know we not only disagree with you, but we don’t care about how you feel. A tuned in person sees those who are bitter, hard, snarky, negative as simply people who don’t have what they are looking for. Love them anyways.
4 They focus on positive
People can be tuned into the possibilities or the problems. you either get to choose to be negative about things or positive. it is really that simple. It’s not that you don’t see the problems in your life- you do - you are tuned in to them so they don’t get worse, but you also see the opportunities for success, answers, achievement and learning.
5 They are great listeners
Do you want people to follow you and be around you because you are cool, accomplished, successful??? and guess what - If you do that is very shallow of you. How about they want to be around you because you truly listen. You know what that actually means you care. When you tune in to others words, emotions and their body language, it says to them “this guy really cares”!
6 They are stress resilient
I am tuned in to what stresses me out and I am tuned into what builds my stress resilience. I have shared on this a few times, but stress is best beaten by having a full emotional tank. My emotional tank is filled up by daily prayer, scripture, a good book, working out, playing my guitar or drums, talking to my family and laughing. I do that every day. I am in tuned in to when I don’t get enough of that and when and how to fill my tank.
7 They keep good company and encourage others
I seem to have a problem in my life… I attract a lot of needy people. It drives my wife nuts. I tend to push away or drive away people who don’t like strong opinions, or people who are used to getting their way through manipulation or people who are just not used to honesty. I don’t care what people think I am going to be Garth and live for jesus. Now with that said “I have learned it attracts needy people because they want to be the same way and they think that by being with me it will make them like me… nope”.
long story short- I have only about 5 people in my life that I continually hang with outside of my mom, dad, wife, and boys. Ty, Scott, my sister, Tim & Amber. They feed me and I feed them. I am in tune with people who drain me and people who fill me.

Keep your mind going in the right direction and your life will catch up with it.
Every battle starts first in the mind… battles for good, battles for victory, battles for your feelings, battles for your dreams and desires…
Whatsoever a man thinkers, so he is. Prov. 23:7
I HAVE ONE ADVANTAGE OVER YOU… I won’t quit.
2 Samual 23:10 Eleazer fought along side David… he struck down so many philastines that his hand stuck to the sword. the Blood pasted and dried his hand like glue to the sword.
Sorry. I am too busy doing what I love.
Be motivated by the fear of being average. (The King said to Daniel… oh Daniel did your God save you? … he’s asking “did it work? Is your God average?)
I want to see what happens if I don’t give up.
If you knew how many people envied your potential you wouldn’t doubt yourself so much.
No one is you and that is your super power.
God will ask you why you were not more like who he created you to be, not why you were not more like him or her.
The measure of a man’s success is first and foremost what his wife and kids think of him.
yes outside of an intimate relationship with jesus.

Not caring what other people think is the best decision you will ever make.
How do you stop from caring what others think? Have a sincere intimate relationship with God,
Make honest upright choices (can your spouse check your phone anytime?… mine can)
If you don’t have those two things covered than your own psyche will guilt trip you and be a black cloud that follows you as the haters hate on you. but if you do have those covered, then its just funny to you what other people think.
Nobody watches you more than those who hate you or are jealous of you. (The most captious are the most jealous) Feel sorry for those who nitpick at you for stupid things… it is a sure sign that they do not love or even like themselves.
Rumors are carried by haters spread by fools and accepted by idiots.
You’ve heard the cliche there are two sides to every story? THATS NOT TRUE, THERE ARE MULTIPLE SIDES TO EVERY STORY. What he said, she said, what he meant, what she meant, what others thought it meant…
The older I get the more I realize I can’t be surprised at what anyone says is true… knowing that it is probably most definitely NOT true.
(Ok, I have to modify this one, but I think you can tell what its really trying to say at the end)
People in their 20’s who think life sucks… Well guess what, Life hasn’t even begin to hate you yet.
At every major age marker, 20, 30, 40, 50 etc… I realize how little I know about life and how little I have gone through. There is a woman in my church who found out 5 years ago she was adopted (she’s 55’sh) She was divorced from her first husband who was abusive, her second husband of 30 years died a long hard death with cancer, she lost her daughter in a car accident, she lost her grandkids to a sons divorce, she lost her granddaughter out of spite, she found her real father only to find out her real mother didn’t want to meet her, her real dad is now struggling with health problems, and this woman is losing her house… my life? Pretty easy!
Two reasons I don’t trust people: I don’t know them and I know them.
Micah 7:5,6 Put no trust in a neighbor; have no confidence in a friend; guard the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your arms; for the son treats the father with contempt, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.
*more than ever trust needs to be earned, proven and time tested - or simply put- you are a fool.

If you have been a listener for a while you have heard me say again and again that men only change when there is trauma in their life. Its when the doctor says, you got about 2 years left at this pace. Or your wife says “I’m out”, or your kids say Dad you are a piece of shi… caca, Your boss fires you…. trauma makes us change or die.
But along those same lines trauma also not only makes us change but it changes some of our core beliefs in a heartbeat.
let me back up a few years… the great depression… you probably remember it from history class. Americans hit skid row, the economy tanked and it was a struggle to pay the most basic needs. But before that what happened? In the middle of the great depression right in the middle of 1929 the stock market crashed… but it truly didn’t affect most people. Most people lived the same life, because most people did not have stocks or bonds or investments for their retirement. Only 2.5% were actually affected… however just before the crash the election of President Hoover was the biggest landslide in our history. And then the stock market crashed… and it took a while for the crisis to hit. I will dumb it down for us to save time. The stock market crashed, Then it tanked banks began to fail, people lost their savings. When they lost their savings they stopped spending. When they stopped spending businesses failed. When businesses failed, banks failed. And when banks fail people lose their savings… and it becomes a maddening circle of loss
So where am I going with this, well the next election was actually another record slide of votes to get Hoover out of office.
And with that the American people were ripe to adopt and believe things that now in place are bankrupting America.
For example The Social Security Act was passed in 1935 372 to 33 in the House of Representatives, and 77 to 6 in the Senate.
Dirty politics caught a major head wind with an alleged coup by wealthy businessmen to overthrow Franklin Roosevelt, with a Marine General named Smedley Butler taking his place as dictator. And owning gold became illegal. And all these things people were fine with… because a crisis had seduced them and primed them for these shifts… they were looking for cheap solutions in crisis that would ultimately crush us.
Now you’re asking Garth what does this have to do with me. Well today is not a history lesson as so much as a warning… your choices build and build and build and once that levy of bad choices break, you are easily manipulated to do and believe and act on even more dangerous tactics. They seem quick and easy, but in the end they are like a prison cell.
You don’t get the love and attention you feel you deserve from your spouse… so you make some bad choices… you end up cheating on your spouse, and now that you have rationalized it, you will sleep with anyone who fills that void… and in time you are a prisoner to sex, pornography - AND the hopes of a healthy relationship are out the window! Yes thats an easy example, but there are hundreds more out there… just look in the mirror.
Galatians 6:7, 8 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
REAP… not just get back what you sowed, but a hundred fold on each act of stupidity! A literal harvest with just a couple of seeds … 20 bad seeds don’t equal 20 bad circumstances… it equals a harvest of bad circumstances, dependencies and enslavements. And don’t miss the nuance here… sow to the flesh means you simply sow to what feels right at the time, its almost automatic, its like the seed that falls from the bag and gets planted by mistake in the cracks and the rocks and the weeds…
Don’t let the struggles of life cause you to lose what you truly believe in and what scripture teaches. Don’t let trauma seduce you into making cheap feel good decisions. Sow what matters!
