Unbelief will always see
Extravagant giving - The woman who poured the perfume on Jesus feet
Extravagant sacrifice - the peasant woman who gave a pittance in the offering
Extravagant serving - The prostitute who came and fell at Jesus feet
as a waste
You are in the gym and you see someone spending to much time in the gym, to much money on supplements, to much heavy lifting… to much studying new lifts and recovery methods
You see someone who spends way to much on cooking, to much money on the best ingredients, they serve to many dishes and to big proportions, to many kitchen toys
You see someone who gives their whole life serving a nonprofit overseas. They give up the idea of having a home, a spouse a family, a new car and house a semi comfortable living…they are willing to face disease and poor health and living conditions
You see a doctor who is willing to spend to much time with their patients, study more than their colleagues, give more of their resources to continued education and research, always promoting the ideas behind health and wellness
You see someone who gives way to much to the church in time, money, resources… they seem to only want to talk about Jesus, they read the bible all the time, You see them sacrifice promotions at work due to their religious beliefs, they want everyone to commit to following Jesus as much as they do
WHAT YOU DON’T SEE IS THE BELIEF THEY HAVE BEHIND THEIR COMMITMENT BASED ON A CONVICTION AND A LOVE.
Its not enough to just have a conviction
and its not enough to just have a love
You must have both to set your course on going all in.
What does 2 Cor. 7:9-11 say
9And now I rejoice, not because you were made sorrowful, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you felt the sorrow that God had intended, and so were not harmed in any way by us. 10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation without regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. (worldly sorrow i.e. they are saddened by your giving, serving, loving to an extreme) 11Consider what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what zeal, what vindication! In every way you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.…
Remember what I just said
Unbelief will always see
Extravagant giving
Extravagant sacrifice
Extravagant serving
as a waste
and why? Because they have not found the love and conviction behind the call of Christ. As this verse says “they have not proved themselves… they are not innocent, they are guilty by their unbelief in what you are doing.”
If you love him, and have the conviction of that love you will do seemingly crazy things for him… all the while others won’t understand and may even tear into for doing… do it anyway!

Can you taste the words coming out of my mouth
Friday Jan 27, 2023
Friday Jan 27, 2023
How do those words taste coming out of your mouth? Usually spoken to you when you have to eat your words… like I was wrong, I am sorry or worse yet… the Bears still suck… but the truth is words do have a taste to them… its biblical.
Did you know that some people taste words? No, its true, I am not making this up. Now before you say “oh yea like a cake that spells your name” NOPE. I mean there are people in the world today that when certain words are spoken their brain causes their mouth to taste certain tastes… but here is the weird thing… If I say Banana you don’t taste bananas… it could actually be any key word that triggers the phenomena - for example every time you hear the word gymnasium your brain would tell your taste buds that you taste tomato soup - that would suck if you hated tomato soup. This actually has a scientific name… ready for this one?
Lexical gustatory synesthesia… That makes me taste alphabet soup… JK
But this was first recorded in 1907. It has now been studied by Neurologist Julia Sinner of the university of edinburgh. The case study was called “The taste of words on the tip of the tongue”. Now only 10 people in Europe and the United states have this condition… but how freaky!
Here are some of the examples these ten people had:
the word Castanets tasted like tuna fish
Hearing the name John made one taste cornbread
Another name William made someone taste potatoes
and still another when hearing tomato would taste bananas… well at least they are both in the fruit family.
But what’s even more insightful is that the bible tells us our words can taste… good, salty sweet or even bitter
Your words are like salt
Col. 6:4 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
Prov. 16:24 Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Prov. 4:20My son, pay attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21Do not lose sight of them; keep them within your heart. 22For they are life to those who find them, and health to the whole body.…
And James 3:10-12 says our words can be bitter or sweet depending on our heart.
The truth is our words have the same type of response as Lexical gustatory synesthesia
What I mean is - when we go to open our mouth to speak in certain situations people around us are already expecting what to taste.
We all have had the person, boss, father, mother etc… that when they start to talk you can already taste the foul terrible taste. It just is an immediate reaction. You know its going to taste bad, so you already taste it before they even finish their first sentence.
On the other hand we have people that speak into our lives even when we do deserve harsh tasting words… but they do so in such a way that it tastes good, it brings healing and it nourishes our soul to seek God more.
Lets be there person who speaks words of great taste and humble pie - our world needs it more than ever!

He thought about leaving, but I hope he also thought about where he was headed.
We will all stand before God and be accountable.
Tax day is coming up… Do you have a good accountant? If not it could cost you.
Rom. 14:12 we will all be held accountable before God
WHo is my accountant on that day?
Jesus - he paid it all.
In full
Who is your accountant…
Ever do your own taxes… what a nightmare.
Why not let Jesus be your final accountant - it’s only your life.. probably pretty important!

John 4:4
4 He had to go through Samaria on the way. 5 Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. 7 Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.”
The Joy of seeing Tanner here at church, plugged in, using his gifts, growing in Jesus - its addicting.
- Its a good indicator of where your heart is.
*Everybody wants to reach people for Jesus until it’s time to reach people for Jesus. Ed Young
I believe most people want to share Christ, they just lack the confidence and the simple how to.
To call yourself a follower of Christ and not tell others is a sure sign of disconnect in your walk.
So Lets look at Christ example:
She is never named, yet her encounter with Jesus is the longest between the Messiah and any other individual in the Gospel of John.
- Representing the lowest of the low
— a female in a society where women are both demeaned and disregarded,
- a race traditionally despised by Jews,
- and living in shame as a social outcast not only by the Jews and Romans, but by her own people due to her lifestyle
**Lets say you are standing at the DMV and you have felt all day like Jesus has put a burden on your heart to share Jesus. Two different windows open up in line… a young blonde blue eyed woman in her 30’s and the other person…
Different color, different religion, different country, different attitude, different language
WHO DO YOU CHOOSE?
THIS WAS EXACTLY JESUS PREDICAMENT - HE CHOSE THE LEAST OF WHO HE SHOULD CHOOSE.
What happens when he shares?
- She is not being completely truthful with Jesus
- She is a sinner of ill repute
BUT WHAT ELSE HAPPENS?
— she not only has a holy encounter with Christ but also receives eternal salvation. And her testimony convinces an entire town to believe, too.

11 “But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,” she said, “and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water?
YOU DON’T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES…
Ever feel that way. You don’t have what it takes to share the gospel? You are not good enough, you are not smart enough, you are not a pastor, you sin, you don’t know all the answers, you are a young Christian… blah blah blah
What do you have to do to share the gospel with someone… what do you need to know? Well, what did Jesus say- I am the Messiah. All we really need to do is point out that Jesus is the son of God who came to save the world from its sin.
31 Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus, “Rabbi, eat something.”
32 But Jesus replied, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about.”
33 “Did someone bring him food while we were gone?” the disciples asked each other.
34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.
