5 Things a Father does Pt. 1
Tuesday Jun 20, 2023

Wake the faith up
Five things a father does for his kids…
Protects
His ears, his eyes, his mind, his heart, his body
His ears - What does he hear coming out of your mouth when you talk about his mother? When you talk about your boss, when you talk about problems… does he hear words of faith, destruction, apathy… or worse yet - nothing.
We know the tongue has the power of life and death… are you killing your kids or are you giving them life.
His eyes - What does he see you do? What does he see you watch? What does he see you get fired up over? How does he see you interact with your spouse/his mother?
The eye gate is the soul gate. What ever a person looks at and sees can get down into their soul and captivate and even capture them and control them. Are you living in such a way that your kids see you walking in freedom, walking fearless, walking faithful. You are the father are the head of the home, the gatekeeper and what you do and allow them to see is a green light in the spiritual world to possess your kids.
His mind - what do you allow your child to watch, listen to or think about. I told my boys growing up that any music they put on their iPhones I got to put on my iPhones… I would not allow anything on their iPhones that I would not want… and the only way was to listen to their music. I would go through their rooms ALL THE TIME and search… books, magazines, games, drugs… etc….
His heart - You protect his heart through your own prayer life, church attendance and what you show him to be as a priority. When my boys were in sports and games were on Sundays or Wednesdays they did not miss church… sometimes coaches made them sit and not start or even play… thats fine - the coach is not my sons father - I am. he can sit, he can be mad, he can even hate me for a while… but one thing he will know beyond a shadow of a doubt is that God, church and family is #1 - and not any other activity.
His body - Have you taught your kids how to be on alert for danger. Do you monitor where your kids go, who’s house they are at, what party they are at, what is going on at that party. Are you in shape enough to protect your kids or wife? Do you know any self defense, do you have any weapons at home or on your persons. Do you have any spiritual warfare bible verses memorized and prayed over daily? Do your kids have any safety words… Do you realize how many kids go missing a day in the united states? 2,300 on average a day are abducted, and or go missing?

Good news bad news

An old joke line was the good news bad news…it went like this
I’ve got bad news…The bar in town burned down…
Good news they built a new one
Bad news they don’t sell beer
Good news the beer is free
Bad news, they don’t have any glasses
Good news they have buckets
Bad news the buckets have holes in them
Good news, the holes are at the top of the bucket
The bible speaks of calamity and hard times and even the end times as a way of God getting our attention. Not only the Christian but the non Christian. In fact scripture says that it will be the end times and the tribulation that will reawaken the jews to the gospel of Jesus Christ…
All in all the simplicity of this stands to conclude that the hard times that the bad times, that the worst times, that the things that don’t kill us, do in fact make us stronger if we keep our faith in Christ.
Look its as simple as understanding that the unforeseen problem leads you to new mindsets and break throughs.
the Person who breaks your rule and steals your idea is the reason you came up with something better and even more unique.
The extra weight on the bar makes it hard which is what makes you strong.
I love what Physicist John Archibald Wheeler says
-and I quote - Behind it all is surely an idea so simple ,so beautiful, so compelling
that when-in a decade, a century, or a millennium-we grasp it, we
will all say to each other, how could it have been otherwise?
-Physicist John Archibald Wheeler
so with this mindset is it any wonder God tells us to rejoice in times of suffering, in times of trouble, in times of distress… we are to rejoice in all things especially the hard things… because it is what brings out the best in us if we continue to trust God…
What a bummer of a story if it is told that King Darius demanded the boys Shad Shack and Benny to bow or burn and he heated up the fire and they decide to bow… it wouldn’t have the same life altering impact on the listener… and even if they had burned up to a pile of ashes.. still it would resound of faith over fire.
What is the best God has for you? Well its just on the other side of what is bad for you. Embrace it and thank him… you will understand in the end.

Do you know who I am… Im sorry sir hold just a minute.
Picks up the phone and says hello can you connect me with the psychology department… we have a man down here who does not know who he is
At a ver prestigious university it was the final day of exams… the class was a huge class of about 500 plus students… the professor handed out the tests and pencils and said you must finish in exactly 2 hours…
When the time was up everyone brought their tests up… except one young man who continued to write down answers… the professor began to get irritated, threatening and finally said you can take your time, but I am going to fail you regardless… the kid kept writing and finally brought his test up to the professors desk. The professor who was a very arrogant and snide man began to chew out this young man… Do you know who I am? I have received the highest honors this university bestows. DO you know who I am, I have studied abroad at Cambridge university… you apparently truly have no idea who I am, I have 3 doctorates from Yale, Harvard and Princeton… to which the student shrugged and said, “do you know who I am?”. The professor winced and with a confusing grin said NO I DONT KNOW WHO YOU ARE…
And with that the student picked up the huge pile of tests from the center quickly put his test in the middle and put the hundreds of tests on top of it… and said “good luck”. and walked out.
We often ask do you know who you are in Christ… but actually its not if you know who you are in Christ, its if you know who’s you are in Christ.
What do i mean? Well i can quote all the scriptures of who I am in Christ… and I will quote a few in a second, but unless I know Christ, and know Who’s I am, who I am has very little affect on me. It would be like finding out you are related to the great prince of Zinaqua… who is the richest man in the world… you can brag about that, but it means nothing until you go and see and experience his life style, his riches, the esteem and awe he is treated with, the power he has… all that and more.. now when you realize you are related to him and yes you are related to him as in he is your father… now you know who’s who you are.
I am complete in Him Who is the head over all rule and authority—of every angelic and earthly power (Colossians 2:10).
I am alive with Christ (Ephesians 2:5).
I am free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2).
I am far from oppression, and will not live in fear (Isaiah 54:14).
I am born of God, and the evil one does not touch me (1 John 5:18).
I am holy and without blame before Him in love (Ephesians 1:4; 1 Peter 1:16).
I have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16; Philippians 2:5).
I have the peace of God that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
The Spirit of God, who is greater than the enemy in the world, lives in me (1 John 4:4).
I have received abundant grace and the gift of righteousness and reign in life through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17).
I have received the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus, the eyes of my heart enlightened, so that I know the hope of having life in Christ (Ephesians 1:17-18).
I have received the power of the Holy Spirit and He can do miraculous things through me.I have authority and power over the enemy in this world (Mark 16:17-18; Luke 10:17-19).
I am renewed in the knowledge of God and no longer want to live in my old ways or nature before I accepted Christ (Colossians 3:9-10).
I am merciful, I do not judge others, and I forgive quickly. As I do this by God’s grace, He blesses my life (Luke 6:36-38).
God supplies all of my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
In all circumstances I live by faith in God and extinguish all the flaming darts (attacks) of the enemy (Ephesians 6:16).
I can do whatever I need to do in life through Christ Jesus who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13).
I am chosen by God who called me out of the darkness of sin and into the light and life of Christ so I can proclaim the excellence and greatness of who He is (1 Peter 2:9).
I am born again—spiritually transformed, renewed and set apart for God’s purpose—through the living and everlasting word of God (1 Peter 1:23).
I am God’s workmanship, created in Christ to do good works that He has prepared for me to do (Ephesians 2:10).
I am a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
In Christ, I am dead to sin—my relationship to it is broken—and alive to God—living in unbroken fellowship with Him (Romans 6:11).
The light of God’s truth has shone in my heart and given me knowledge of salvation through Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6).
As I hear God’s Word, I do what it says and I am blessed in my actions (James 1:22, 25).
I am a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17). I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me (Romans 8:37).
I overcome the enemy of my soul by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony (Revelation 12:11).
I have everything I need to live a godly life and am equipped to live in His divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4).
I am an ambassador for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20). I am part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people (1 Peter 2:9).
I am the righteousness of God—I have right standing with Him—in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21).
My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit; I belong to Him (1 Corinthians 6:19).
I am the head and not the tail, and I only go up and not down in life as I trust and obey God (Deuteronomy 28:13).
I am the light of the world (Matthew 5:14).
I am chosen by God, forgiven and justified through Christ. I have a compassionate heart, kindness, humility, meekness and patience (Romans 8:33; Colossians 3:12).
I am redeemed—forgiven of all my sins and made clean—through the blood of Christ (Ephesians 1:7).
I have been rescued from the domain and the power of darkness and brought into God’s kingdom (Colossians 1:13).
I am redeemed from the curse of sin, sickness, and poverty (Deuteronomy 28:15-68; Galatians 3:13).
My life is rooted in my faith in Christ and I overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done for me (Colossians 2:7).
I am called to live a holy life by the grace of God and to declare His praise in the world (Psalm 66:8; 2 Timothy 1:9).
I am healed and whole in Jesus (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24).
I am saved by God’s grace, raised up with Christ and seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:5-6; Colossians 2:12).
I am greatly loved by God (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:4; Colossians 3:12; 1 Thessalonians 1:4).
I am strengthened with all power according to His glorious might (Colossians 1:11).
I humbly submit myself to God, and the devil flees from me because I resist him in the Name of Jesus (James 4:7).
I press on each day to fulfill God’s plan for my life because I live to please Him (Philippians 3:14).
I am not ruled by fear because the Holy Spirit lives in me and gives me His power, love and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7).
Christ lives in me, and I live by faith in Him and His love for me (Galatians 2:20).

Does the Hat fit?

The three hats of leadership
Servant hat
You are there to serve your team
Teacher hat
You are there to teach and even model the behavior desired
Leader hat
You are giving orders, you are the general
The kicker is this: Most people think the point here is maturity in knowing what hat you should wear… thats not the point. The actual lesson is knowing what hat the other person is wearing.
I tell my staff… its not about you knowing how to wear these hats, its do those under you know what hat you are wearing.
Look I may have someone come in and I might come across subservient to my staff… but the mature ones know I am serving this person.
I might come across as a know it all… unless they know I am a teacher at that moment
I might come across as an arrogant tyrant know it all who demands his way, unless you know I am wearying my general hat/leader hat.
A rule early on in our house that I taught my boys is this… I am not asking you, I am telling you. I am wearing my teacher hat…. my servant hat asks, my teacher hat tells, and We do not yell in our house unless I am wearing my general/leader hat. Your life is in danger when I yell, so don’t waste time asking questions, just do what i say.
My staff understands the same thing…
Last year we had a gentlemen come to our church who was very unstable… when he walked in during the start of service I told one of my leaders, go sit behind him and watch him. The leader had to get up from sitting with his family and slide in between another couple up hear the front in order to sit behind this man… My leader never blinked an eye, nor did his wife or kids… they knew the pastor had his leader hat on and there was a reason for the order.
In the story of the woman caught in adultery we see Jesus seamlessly wear all three hats…
John 8
The Pharisees caught a woman in adultery… he writes in the sand he is teaching….
and then says he who is without sin cast the first stone… he was being a general or leader
They all walk away and he looks at the woman and says where are your accusers?
He is teaching again…
he then looks at her and says did any condemn you? NO??? and neither do I, go and sin no more…
he is serving her

Lets do some stuff!

You can do some stuff… you are capable of some stuff, you got the right to do some stuff… heck you may even do stuff now… but what is it really that you are expected to do.
Ability is what you're capable of doing.
Gifting is where you find your sweet spot
Talent is what God has give you to develop
Skill is talent X’s 1000 practices
But Faith is what you choose to do above and beyond all of these combined.
Ability is a gift from God given at birth… we all have some ability… what it really means is we have some built in responsibility - its in our DNA
But if I live a life where I use my ability, I use my gifting, I use my talent and I develop and use my skill…. well to some degree isn’t that expected? What and how am I different than anyone else? The key to a life that truly makes a supernatural and eternal difference is one that is infused with faith.
I love Hebrews chapter 11 - it is called the faith chapter… it gives a short run down of all the people in the OT who lived a life of faith and did things that they could not have possibly done on their own - even with the best ability, gifting and talent…
Look, lets be honest… no matter how much of those you have unless you have faith like moses (just one of the many people mentioned) you are not going to live and escape Pharaoh. Your ability and talent won’t cut it when the angel of death comes for you… you better have some faith and act on it.
Your skill won’t move mountains?
You thousands of hours of practice won’t heal the sick or cast out demons…
So why not create the perfect storm and combine your ability, your talent, your skill and some faith and ask God to use you beyond these 3 combined together for some amazing God moments. These 3 are fantastic, but even more eternity altering when one combines them with faith.
let me share with you a thought that I have had many conversations along the years with many different people.
I have heard people say things like “I am believing God for a million dollars or I am believing God to make me a millionaire… now I get it. You are stepping out in faith saying that… but in todays world it does not take faith to be a millionaire… just some hard work. But what if you said i want to be a billionaire… or trillionaire?? Now maybe we need some faith to go along with our ability, talent and skill.
So lets break this down to X living. What are the goals you have in your spiritual walk? Now times them by a 1000. Can you do it on your own? You are probably going to really need faith in God to get it done… what if I put it this way… on your best day what could you accomplish with your abilities, your gifts and talents? Now times it by a 1000… you are going to need some faith right?
I think you’re getting it.
So today… take what you got, and ask God to give you some faith as to what it could mean to the rest of the world!

Colossians 1:1 Paul,
I forgot to tell you next week we have a special guest speaking on integrity, honesty and character taking lessons from his own life… President Joe Biden…
Paul? His past? Writing this letter??? Really???
Deuteronomy 32:23 says be sure your sins will find you out… and yes this is true before we come to Christ and many times true after we come to Christ… but no need to be ashamed.
There is good reason to believe that the Apostle Paul dealt with shame before he came to know christ. It is very typical for a person to exhibit the behavior he did due to unresolved shame. Rigid, extreme, moralist and putting others under the same regime or persecuting them for it…
“Beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: – Galatians 1:13
“As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison” – Acts 8:3
“And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.” – Acts 9:1-2
He was even an accessory to murder at one point in his life! Remember when Stephen was stoned to death by an angry mob, that it was a young man named Saul who held the cloaks of Stephen’s assailants.
Two more examples
Even before Paul’s conversion, Ananias was apprehensive towards him when the Lord commanded him to go to Paul and teach him what he needed to do in order to be saved. He said, “I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name,” Acts 9:13-14.
After Paul’s conversion, the consequences of his past sins were still felt. Some years after his conversion, the Christians at Jerusalem were still wary and mistrustful of him, “And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple,” Acts 9:26.
WAS PAUL ASHAMED OF HIS BEHAVIOR?
He very well could have been…
Are you? Do you still carry shame?
When a wild bear gets its hand on garbage it will no longer forage for food. If you catch it digging through garbage it will become angry. Why? Experts say it is because the bear is ashamed.
ARE YOU ACTING OUT OF SHAME?
SAY THIS: I am not ashamed of my past because I am no LONGER my past!
When someone loses a lot of weight… and someone notices it… do they get embarrassed are they ashamed?
When someone calls you out on your past… don’t worry, they can’t see all the weight you lost in the spiritual.
You will many times hear a coach regard a great player for one particular attribute… a short memory. You pitch bad, you throw an interception, you miss a strike, you miss game winning shot… you forget about it and move on.
I love that Paul does not start out….
Col. 1:1 I Paul, the guy who was called by Jesus and yes I ransacked the church, and tore down doors, threw people in out in the streets and killed people and even asked for a special dispensation from the high priest to torture any Christians, and I know Im not perfect… but nobody is…anyway I write this letter to Colosse
How did he deal with it? Phil. 3:13, 14
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 3:13-14
Shame is a powerful weapon of the enemy.
Guilt is - I did a bad thing
Shame is - I am bad
A demonic stronghold of shame is - I now must hide and pretend I am someone else… Im defective.

HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE -- p 56
Frank Minirth, M.D. & Paul Weier, M.D.
Dr. William P. Wilson, a former professor of psychiatry at Duke University, has done a great deal of research and writing concerning the benefits of an intimate relationship with God on our over-all emotional health. Dr. Armand Nicholi, professor of psychiatry at Harvard, has also made major contributions in this area. Both Wilson and Nicholi are committed Christians.
In summary, the authors believe there are three major sources of emotional pain:
1. Lack of self-worth.
2. Lack of intimacy with others.
3. Lack of intimacy with God.
Flight fright or freeze… but today lets talk about freeze. It is an involuntary reaction to a perceived threat.
it could be a verbal threat, it could be experienced as you needing to make a decision quickly, it could be a physical threat, or even an emotional threat… but you freeze up… but what does that look like?
The three characteristics of a freeze point: poor at commitment and communication, and either extremely defensive or overly sensitive.
So you are asked to take on a special project at work and it will keep you late on Tuesdays and Thursdays…
A freeze point might mean you say yes… but then don’t keep the commitment
Or it may be walked out in a very defensive manner… “why don’t you ask Jim- he doesn’t do anything around here”
Or the overly sensitive… I guess, I mean it will wreck my time with my kids, and I feel like you are just using me, I already don’t get paid enough… my wrist hurts from to much typing…
Garth… why are we talking about this?
Well it is definitely a problem in todays world… but it is also addressed in scripture.
1. Lack of self-worth.
2. Lack of intimacy with others.
3. Lack of intimacy with God.
The book of Ephesians covers all of this but does so in most perfect fashion.
Ephesians 2:10 says we are Gods masterpiece… that is the self worth piece that is missing.
Then it says All things in our life come down to knowing how much God loves us Eph. 3:16-22 - that covers the Lack of intimacy with God part and finally Ephesians 5:22 - 6:10 covers the intimacy with others part.
But here is what is interesting… the last thing that Paul talks about in Ephesians is spiritual warfare… Why? I honestly believe that until we get a hold of the other three our spiritual warfare is compromised…
if you don’t like yourself and accept yourself
If you have poor relationships
and if you have a shallow walk with God… how can you go to war spiritually with complete confidence?

Years ago when Johnny Carson was the host of The Tonight Show he interviewed
an eight year old boy. The young man was asked to appear because he had
rescued two friends in a coal mine outside his hometown in West Virginia. As
Johnny questioned the boy, it became apparent to him and the audience that
the young man was a Christian. So Johnny asked him if he attended Sunday
school. When the boy said he did Johnny inquired, "What are you learning in
Sunday school?" "Last week," came his reply, "our lesson was about when
Jesus went to a wedding and turned water into wine." The audience roared,
but Johnny tried to keep a straight face. Then he said, "And what did you
learn from that story?" The boy squirmed in his chair. It was apparent he
hadn't thought about this. But then he lifted up his face and said, "If
you're going to have a wedding, make sure you invite Jesus!" The little boy
was on to something. Weddings are time of Joy.
If you are going to be a Christian make sure you invite Jesus.
Satan don’t care if you read, pray, meditate and play worship music as long as you don’t invite Jesus to the party. You might ask if I am splitting hairs, but I have been around for a long time and I know a lot of people who diligently have a disciplined quiet time…almost every day, time in gods word, time praying, time worshiping… but they never invite Jesus. You might say what’s the big deal…
Let me ask you a question… the last time you had a quiet time (which hopefully was today) if Jesus was actually in the room with you… would it have gone differently?
Oh… yes and amen.
It would probably have started off with you face down on the ground and humbled by his holiness….
Would he have shared some things with you? OH most definitely
Do you think he would have asked you to do some stuff? YEP!
Give some stuff away?
Share with a person that day?
Tell you to pray for a person at work?
Repent?
Ask for forgiveness from someone?
Tell your spouse you loved them?
So we can assume you had a quite time without Jesus if none of those things happened…
Am I being a little to hard on you… I don’t think so.
Why time with Jesus…
First did you know you can be a Christian and never spend time actually in the presence of Jesus… or his Holy Spirit?
Let me put it this way….
Water has absolutely no, nada, none, zero, Zilch, zippo nutritional value - but
life is dependent on it!
You can live completely free from time with Jesus… and I mean even if you read and pray… you can do it without Jesus… but your spiritual life depends on it. There are too many Christians walking around flatlined… no heartbeat whatsoever for Christ and they don’t even know it…
Lets start inviting Jesus to our quiet times, lets start inviting him to our work, our dinner times, our family, our hobbies, our bedrooms, our computer time, our phones, our time with kids….

But the question is are you the dog or the cat?
In the book Journey Toward God,
Some of you are old enough to remember Richard Daly who was mayor of Chicago
for 21 years (1955-1976). Mayor Daly was known as a rather forbidding guy to
work for. One story goes like this. One of Mayor Daly’s speech writers came
in and demanded a raise. Mayor Daly responded as could be expected. He said m not going to give you a raise. You are getting paid more than enough
already. It should be enough for you that you are working for a great
American hero like myself.” And that was the end of it...or so the mayor
thought.
Two weeks later Mayor Daly was on his way to give a speech to a convention
of veterans. The speech was going to receive nationwide attention. Now one
other thing Mayor Daly was famous for was not reading his speeches until he
got up to deliver them. So there he stood before a vast throng of veterans
and nationwide press coverage. He began to describe the plight of the
veterans. m concerned for you. I have a heart for you. I am deeply
convinced that this country needs to take care of its veterans. So, today I
am proposing a seventeen point plan that includes the city, state and
federal government, to care for the veterans of this country.” Now by this
time everyone, including Mayor Daly, was on the edge of their seat to hear
what the proposal was. He turned the page and saw only these words: “You’re
on your own now, you great American hero.”
I don't know if Daly learned anything at that moment. With his great ego
perhaps he did not. But he should have learned that all of us, no matter how
great we think we are, need help. We need advocates who work behind the
scenes to make us who we are.
God has an advocate for you. He is the Holy Spirit.
Brett Blair, www.eSermons.com, April 2002
-Story of Daly taken from: Journey Toward God, New Community Small Group
study on Exodus (Zondervan), p.33.
EGO
Self reliance, turns into self deception into self destruction.
Prov. 16:18
Pride (ego, arrogance, pride) goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit (someone who is on top and takes credit for it) before a fall.
From ego minded to open-minded.
2. From having no boundaries to establishing & maintaining flexible boundaries.
3. From crashing other peoples boundaries to respecting boundaries.
4. From giving mixed messages to giving clear, concise messages.
5. From "you are" statements to "I feel" statements.
6. From other-oriented to Higher Power-oriented.
7. From fear-driven to motivated by faith love and good will towards others.
8. From a grandiose belief of oneself, to a belief in the creator
9. From neediness for my wants to awareness and attention to true personal needs.
10. From miserable and anxious to joyful and serene.
There are many examples of ego in the bible but the one that sticks out to me as the most profound is Pharaoh when Moses told him God sent him and wanted him to let my people go… a direct order from God.
But Pharaoh thought he was God… so God continued to bring plagues… And you would think that after the - I don’t know 3rd plague Pharaoh would have thought… this ain’t panning out so well… but no he holds steady, this dude is committed and his ego doesn’t just affect him, but the whole nation of Egypt… thousands of families lost their first born due to his ego.
And thats the problem with your ego… trust me, it doesn’t just affect you… it affects everyone around you!
Humble yourself before God, before its to late!

Woah, we're halfway there
Woah-oh, livin' on a prayer
Take my hand, we'll make it, I swear
Woah-oh, livin' on a prayer
What is living a life of faith… My guess is most people would assess that a life of faith is one that when problems arise in your life- be it financial, material, health, relationships etc… that a life of faith acts in that moment believing and trusting God… but what if that was the wrong idea of what faith was and how to use it. Let me break it down for you.
Management is the ability to create an expected outcome – garth
Leadership- is the ability to create a picture and environment of the future outcome-Garth
what’s the difference? Management does not see the problem and doesn’t deal with the problem until it shows up… then management try to create an answer and an outcome… hoping that after the fact it creates a new understanding and environment.
BUT… Leadership sees the problem and expects the problem before it gets there and has already started to create that environment so that when it does show up, you and those around you are ready to deal with it.
Yes we need faith in times of crisis… but we also need faith in everyday life.
Hebrews 11:6 says it is impossible to please God without faith… why? Because it says we must be earnestly seeking him. this means always… always seeking to live a life of faith, always seeking to build an atmosphere of faith. Always expecting Gods kingdom to invade earth… the is the leadership mindset of creating an environment before crisis happens… There is no mediocrity in a faith walk… it does not get turned on and off..
Only a mediocre person is always at his or her best.
What do I mean… are you the type of person who didn’t need faith today because there was no pressing need… that is mediocre faith… and thats the best faith you can expect to have.
THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE- PETER M. SENGE (pp.21-22)
Our fixation on events is actually part of our evolutionary programming. If you wanted to design a cave person for survival, ability to contemplate the cosmos would not be a high-ranking design criterion. What is important is the ability to see the saber-toothed tiger over your left shoulder and react quickly. The irony is that, today, the primary threats to our survival, both of our organizations and of our societies, come not from sudden events but from slow, gradual processes; the arms race, environmental decay, the erosion of a society's public education system, increasingly obsolete physical capital, and decline in design or product quality (at least relative to competitor's quality) are all slow, gradual processes.
Are you caught up in the same gradual process of your faith slowly decaying… at one point it had to be pretty impressive and strong… you chose to believe in Who’s Christ was, is and will be to come… but the slow decay of not needing a hyper strong faith filled environment is your undoing.
So how does one create that environment?
Well not to sound to simplistic… but in everyday life you ask yourself what would jesus do? You’ve heard that before right? yea… but asking and then praying and expecting is what creates the environment… but here is the catch… you ask in all situations, not just the emergency. You ask when getting gas, when buying donuts, when talking to your kids, your boss, your spouse, you ask when its time to pass the plate at church, when they ask for volunteers, you ask when you turn on your computer or your television set… YOU….. LIVE…. A ….. LIFE…. OF ….FAITH….
Do this enough and you create a life of faith.
