Marriage is meant to be Hard 3

Covenant: A divinely created relational bond. The administration for the paperwork was done up in heaven… it was divinely created.
From Mark 10, Eph. 5
From these, God’s purposes for your marriage are clear.
1. Reflect the Image of God (Genesis 1:27)
Note the phrases “in our image” and “in our likeness” in Genesis 1:27. God is clearly stating that He made Adam and Eve to reflect Him.
There is nothing like marriage to show you how poorly of a reflection you have of Christ!
2. Reproduce a Godly Heritage (Genesis 1:28)
In Genesis 1:28 we learn that couples are to be “fruitful and increase in number.”
God Himself adopts us as His own children forever when we trust Christ as our personal Savior (Romans 8:15, 23; Galatians 4:4–6; Ephesians 1:5–6).
*Your greatest witness, your strongest pull to the gospel for nonbelievers I believe is your marriage and the family you raise.
3. Reign in Spiritual Warfare (Genesis 1:28)
According to Scripture, the third purpose for marriage is to steward, or care for and cultivate, everything God entrusts to you—spiritual, physical, and relational.
*Your marriage is under attack because he knows it speaks loudly of Gods grace,
*He knows it is your source of strength and encouragement
*He knows One will chase a 1000, Two will chase 10,000… throw in my 2 boys and their wives we will take out a country, and my grandkids…. We can rule he world for Jesus.
WHEN SATAN WEAKENS YOUR MARRIAGE HE WEAKENS YOUR ABILITY TO RULE AND REIGN
But these three purposes are to be
lived out in a covenant.

God’s intention for marriage is not to be a contract that needs both parties to hold up their end of the deal—as 1 Corinthians 13:1 says, “…love keeps no records of right and wrongs.” God’s purpose for marriage is different from the world’s.
It’s a covenant—binding and irrevocable because of His love. I Cor. 7 states you can leave, but you can’t divorce… this is covenant talk, not contract talk.
Covenant: A divinely created relational bond. The administration for the paperwork was done up in heaven… it was divinely created.
**Have you gone through the FOR BETTER FOR WORSE portion of your marriage… and wondered why the worse seems to come around more than the better? Because we focus on the immediate - a covenant focuses on the eternal.
There is far greater judgement on Adultery than on fornication. WHY? One is breaking a covenant.
Proverbs 6: 26 For a prostitute will bring you to poverty, but sleeping with another man’s wife will cost you your life. But the man who commits adultery is an utter fool,
for he destroys himself. 33 He will be wounded and disgraced. His shame will never be erased. 34
For the woman’s jealous husband will be furious,
and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.
35 He will accept no compensation,
nor be satisfied with a payoff of any size.

THE DAVID ALLIANCE
Intro: As much as I hate Hallmark movies (and that channel is on 24/7 at our house during Xmas) It does teach the world the mindset of marriage.
We all know what happens in a Hallmark movie… one woman, 2 men, one from the past or small town… ultimately has to choose one and someone has to give up some type of dream… but they live happily ever after.
HOLD ON… I don’t mean it taught us what to expect in our lives… what it does do is teach us to build a pattern around what we expect in marriages today… i.e. fall in love, think it will last, hit some hard times and divorce to do it over again.
Marriage is harder than it looks and not as fun as it might seem.
Everyone in life has a moment or two when you did not realize the power behind that choice…
listening to that voice if you will: My mom telling me you cannot go with your best friends dad to go see him graduate at boot camp… and it saved my life.
AND THERE ARE TIMES… you see a choice you did make and you wonder what life would have been like without that choice…
THIS IS MARRIAGE - BUT AGAIN you don’t realize it till years after you got married.
LIKE ME - AND MOST - you think what would my life have been like…in a good way and in a bad way and in a self reflective way… But everyone who gets married has that thought… wow the change in my life because of that one person.
- This is why a covenant is so important to marriage. It holds our feet to the fire until we can see the beauty of the decision to stay with that person even if they are the wrong one.
The best things that ever happened to me were due to the hardest things that ever happened to me. Because I understood a covenant - I learned to understand that in marriage.
Understanding a marriage covenant helps you change your expectation… from This will make me happy (an unrealistic high selfish expectation) to this will make me more like Jesus (a realistic lowly achievable Holy expectation).
Marriage is a covenant We see in Gen. 2: and Mark 10
Mark 10 7 ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8 and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
Eph. 5:31-33 31“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 32This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and the church. 33Nevertheless, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.…

Think of it this way… if the word jog was in the Bible, but not the word jogger or runner… and I asked you what a runner did or a jogger did, and you would talk about all the shoes they have, the shorts they wear, the routes they run the apps that track their progress, the marathons they have medals for, the runner magazine they read… but you never mention they run… Runners Run. And disciples make disciples - period.
***The church has magnified and glorified becoming more like Jesus, but not doing what Jesus does.
The power behind “becoming more like Jesus” comes from learning our need/lack/void of leading people to Christ.
My job is not to teach you, lead you equip you, pray for you, comfort you, grow you, heal you, love you, encourage you… outside of it making you a better DISCIPLE maker… or its pointless, its selfish, it is only self gratifying.
You go to tell someone about Jesus and they are trans, gay, atheist, Muslim.
You go to pray for someone in witnessing and they are not healed, freed or delivered.
You get asked a question that you can’t answer….
THIS IS THE CATALYST OF YOU BECOMING MORE LIKE CHRIST- MORE THAN YOUR BIBLE READING… HELLO???? DID YOU HEAR THAT?
We are the body of Christ… a body eats, sleeps, works, rests, exercises… but if the body never reproduces… ?? Is it really doing its job? It is a selfish short lived existence.
When do you know a body is healthy… when an organism is healthy? When it can reproduce.
Stolen Valor is a term used by those who pretend to have served in the Armed Forces… (lots of videos on YouTube) But its disgusting to those who have served. They did not serve, they did not lose their brothers and they did not sacrifice…. DISGUSTING.
*Isn’t it the same if you call yourself a disciple and you have not served, You haven’t lost people to hell you tried to save, you have not sacrificed for the gospel?
IS THAT CHRISTIAN STOLEN VALOR?
- Some churches are more concerned with funding programs than creating disciple makers. THIS IS WHY Christianity has plunged in the last 100 years in our country. **you say well sin has gotten worse… I say it is because we have not made disciples to combat the war on sin.
Ez. 22:29The people of the land have practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy and have exploited the foreign resident without justice. 30I searched for a man among them to repair the wall and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, so that I should not destroy it. But I found no one. 31So I have poured out My indignation upon them and consumed them with the fire of My fury. I have brought their ways down upon their own heads, declares the Lord GOD.”…
The whole chapter concedes that God was looking for anyone
The mindset here is that God was looking for anyone to call the people to repentance - aka make disciples… But there was no one.

In trying to live, preach and win people to Christ we find the point in us where we understand how much we need Christ.
There are over 30K books on Amazon about discipleship… BUT IM GOING TO TELL YOU THE BEST WAY TO BE A DISCIPLE IS TO EVERYDAY TELL PEOPLE ABOUT JESUS - it stirs you in ways a book, a sermon, a song, a movie, a special speaker, DVD could ever do
You really want to know the secret of knowing God, seeing his power move and hearing his voice? TELL PEOPLE ABOUT JESUS - PERIOD!
If you are to become a master chef… You go to the schools in France, you read books, you work side by side next to some of the greatest chefs, you cut up veggies, you make sauces, you butcher meat, you create sauces and dips… but you never make a meal, you never serve a meal… have you truly been discipled as a chef?
We hear it again and again… discipleship is to be more like him… BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? WHAT DID HE DO?
He taught, he loved, he healed, he rebuked, he restored, he hung with sinners, he served, he confronted hypocrisy, he spent time with the Father… but all for what purpose? To reach the world for Christ!
BUT WHAT WAS HIS MOTIVE BEHIND ALL OF THESE?
WHAT WAS HIS END GAME?
To win people to Christ.
Its easy to fall into a mindset and lifestyle of Christianity that serves us… I love Gods promises, his blessings and his comfort - who doesn’t!! But Discipleship is about denying ourselves…
Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
The biggest failure of the 21st century church is they have lost the idea behind what true discipleship is. Discipleship is making disciples - PERIOD!
***The church has magnified and glorified becoming more like Jesus, but not doing what Jesus does.

Discipleship is not biblical
Monday Nov 20, 2023
Monday Nov 20, 2023
Theres a good chance today Im going to make you mad: simply by asking you what you do, who you are, What you are, if you are…
IM’A make YOU MAD TODAY…
What does a mechanic do?
What does a ballerina do?
What does a chef do?
What does a NFL receiver do?
What does a crab fishermen do?
What does a Christian do?
What does a disciple do?
The term discipleship never occurs in the Bible… and it can be very overdressed or underdressed in English.
Only the word DISCIPLE -
So with no clear form or function what is discipleship… are we disciples if we don’t know what discipleship is?
NOTE: The danger is dressing up what “discipleship” is when we are simply called to be disciples. Nuanced? Yes… but worth a closer look at.
HOWEVER…
Mathetuo- make disciples. Matt. 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
GK one who follows both teaching and teacher (mimics the teacher)
**Discipleship is life on life. Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica, “Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well” (1 Thessalonians 2:8).
What is the fruit of discipleship?… well we may think short sided like saying “to be more like Jesus”… but what does that mean?
He made more disciples… that in and of itself might be the one missing key ingredient in our lives.
To think that discipleship is simply knowing more of the Bible…
OR
Being kinder, sweeter, sin less and less…
Still misses the point of who Jesus was and what he did: if we are to mimic him!
He was Gospel, he lived the gospel, he came to seek and save the lost. If discipleship does not move into that on a regular basis… you are not a true disciple.
Our motive is always to share the gospel/make disciples.
Yesterday at the gym… I had a water bottle. But the young kid said hey you brought a water bottle you don’t have to borrow one of ours…. Long story short I said Im not worried about getting sick - he said you are probably immortal - and I said WHY YES I AM - DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY? …do you see where this is going?

What to know about what to know

Col. 1:9, 10 some tings are just not understood unless spiritually
9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
How do know his will?
How do you make decisions?
How do you know right and wrong?
How do you know what to do when both options seem right?
What do you do when you feel like the right decision is the wrong decision?
Paul is stating a principle for life… WE NEED KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM THROUGH THE UNDERSTANDING HIS SPIRIT GIVES. and not just general decision… yes we need to seek God on day to day big decisions, but at the same time understand that it is the small decisions that push us in the direction of our full time life direction.
When I was a sophomore in high school I had a crappy stereo. I love music, still do… and my best friends dad who had a killer massive stereo system was selling it at a really good price. This was 4 speakers, dual cassette deck, a balanced turntable, equalizer and to top it off a wood case for the stereo…. A Gusendorf to be precise.
My mom and dad said NO. not now, too much. I tried my best to tell them it was a STEAL… they did not care.
Does God care if you get a stereo? Does he care if you spend to much?
A friend of mine told me a story of a young newly married man who came to church and asked for prayer… he needed a vehicle to get to and from work… his died. The next week he came into church and was bragging about the new truck he got… My friend said, that’s not Gods will… I asked him how he knew that… he said because God told me to give him mine… and he pulled out his title and then slipped it back into his pocket.
God cares about the small decision, the middle decisions, the medium decisions, the massive decisions and the seemingly non-consequential decisions. BUT YOU GOTTA MAKE THEM TUNED INTO THE HOLY SPIRIT AND GODS WISDOM.
Mans wisdom does not cut it… you know scientists back in the day said… even if we could create a car that went 100mph it would not be safe for humans… because if you stuck your head out the window to breathe your lungs would blow up….
Ahhh mans wisdom is folly.
Seek his voice, seek his wisdom and be willing to make mistakes following his lead. That is how you learn to distinguish Gods wisdom and yours.
And for the record

THANKFULNESS immediately breaks that.
I am not married yet… but I am thankful for Gods process that will make me more like him and give him glory!
**You will yield to the process of God in order to become a part of his work. You are thanking him for what you are going through, for what you need and the process behind it, because the process is making you more like him and making him look good. - i.e. glorifying God.
- 1 THANKS FOR NOTHING… Luke 9:16 15K mouths to feed!
And Jesus took the loaves and the fishes; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the
fragments that remain, that nothing be lost
- 2 THANKS FOR DEAD THINGS
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus
lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me
- 3 THANKS A MILLION
In his lifetime, David never lost a battle. He was consistently victorious because the supernatural was always at work in his favor. David always intentionally gave thanks to God. David was constantly in the sanctuary… but most of the times it was for thanksgiving and not prayer!
- 4 THANKSGIVING REFILLS AND REFUELS
PETER AND JOHN ARE FLOGGED BY THE PHARISEES AND THEY GIVE THANKS THAT THERE WERE COUNTED WORTHY….
- when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is...And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with BOLDNESS. Acts 4:24,31
5 - Thanksgiving causes the supernatural to show up.
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands
were loosed (Acts 16:25, 26).
6 The ultimate THANKSGIVING
Luke 22:14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”
17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
Thanks GK 2168 euxaristéō (from 2095 /eú, "good" and 5485/xaris, "grace") – properly, acknowledging that "God's grace works well," i.e. for our eternal gain and His glory; to give thanks – literally, "thankful for God's good grace.”
Grace is His Process - its best for us and makes him look good. Glorifies him.

Is it possible for something that is meant for good to be bad? Or for something meant for bad to be good? I don’t mean like “oh bro that’s bad… or sarcastically “oh well that’s good”. I mean can a good thing actually end up being a bad thing… it can if we don’t give thanks.
Luke 17:19
Ten Lepers Cleansed
11 Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. 13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.
17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”
HIS THANKFULNESS OPENED THE DOOR TO HIS FAITH BEING REWARDED.
Have you ever caught yourself stating the fact that you have faith to get a better job. You quote verses, you pray prayers of faith… and you are building your faith… But thankfulness celebrates the process. Now your faith is activated in the supernatural and eternal realm.
He went from healing to wholeness, salvation.
*Samaritans and Jews were not on good terms. They were always at each other and chippy, bad attitudes. The Samaritan could have easily felt like he deserved this healing… it would have been hard for him to give thanks to a Jew.
INSIGHTS
A LACK OF THANKFULNESS IN THE OT… BROUGHT A CURSE ON WHAT GOD MEANT FOR GOOD!
And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, (THANK YOU FOR THE PROCESS) saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do (Malachi 2:1, 2).
- We must take it to heart to continually walk in thanksgiving. WE ARE NOT under the law, failure to give thanks to God brings us back under the law.
Thanks giving brings about supernatural results, and a solution to every circumstance. Jesus gave thanks in seemingly hopeless situations

What is irritating your right now?
Is it someone?
Is it a personal issue?
Is it a financial issue?
Is it a work situation?
Is it an unmet desire or need?
It will continue to bother you until you begin to thank God for the process!
It will turn into resentment, hurt, anger, bitterness and invite demonic activity into your life…
BUT

You can’t serve Mammon and God. Mammon there is never enough… you lose the vision for thankfulness.
Mammon/ Money and the security and comfort it brings. It is a demon.
A lack of Thankfulness limits your faith. It parks your faith until something happens… but that’s now how faith works.
1 Tim. 6:6-10
“Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money (the worship of money) is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
WHAT IS THE LOVE OF MONEY?
IT IS TRUSTING MONEY AS THE ANSWER TO THE PROCESS… RATHER THAN GOD.
Mammon is a demon: Anything that trys to get you to worship anything other than Jesus is a demonic spirit.
GK Evil - Morally rotting
Psalm 100 I will enter his gates with thanksgiving in my heart I will enter his court with praise. I will say this is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice for he has made me glad….
