Mark 8:34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save their life[b] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
Jesus calls the crowds around him to share this little insight….
Hmmm… they had been following him for free food, entertaining teaching, miracles and the hope of an over throw of the Roman government…. but Jesus clears the air!
The cross was the most disgusting, vile icon in the then known world.
It was not invented by the Romans, but perfected by them to be the most brutal, gruesome and lasting torture.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE carrying your cross daily?
- Is it apparent in your life?
Do you love God and his word and live it even if it means pain, uncomfortableness, misunderstanding, sacrifice?
5 questions to ask yourself:
- 1 Do you feel the pain of suffering against sin. Do you recognize having to put your flesh to death of sinful desires?
*when was the last time you cried out to God… i don’t want to do this… but I want to do this… Help me!
- 2 Do you war against the devil and his powers in advancing the Kingdom of God?
*When have you last felt like God was calling you to do something for him? Give, share Christ, pray for the sick and lost… and you cried out to God… HELP I don’t want to do this…
- 3 Do you suffer under the ridicule of the world and their belief system?
*When was the last time you shared Gods word/opinion on a matter and had people disagree and confront you on it as if you were being intolerant or hateful or close minded?
- 4 Do you recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit (the comforter) in your life regularly in the times of persecution?
*in the widest sense, a helper, succorer, aider, assistant; so of the Holy Spirit destined to take the place of Christ with the apostles (after his ascension to the Father), to lead them to a deeper knowledge of gospel truth, and to give them the divine strength needed to enable them to undergo trials and persecutions on behalf of the divine kingdom
- 5 Do you recognize your life as one that is set apart to spread the gospel?
*I am curious as to how?

INTRO:
I have a confession to make… I used to make fun of people who watched cat videos… but now I am hooked on watching pit bull rescues… they remind me of Jesus.

Corinthians 5:20 “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
What is an ambassador? in the bible…
a person of high rank employed by a government or King to represent it and transact its business at the seat of government of some other power.
Ok ok ok… lets break this down.
You on behalf of Jesus have been given his power and authority to represent his Kingdom within the seat or power of another government.
Real world: We our Gods ambassadors given his power and authority to represent his kingdom (His kingdom come his will be done on earth as it is in heaven) while in the seat (region or direction) of another power. We are in a world that is currently governed by satan… we are ambassadors to overrule his reign and reconcile others to Christ.
I don’t work out because I am disciplined. I work out because I am selfish. I

I don’t tell people about Jesus because I am so good at it, or because people are always healed or come to christ etc… I do it because it makes me feel great… why? Because it is what we were made for.
Made to know him and make him known…
Some of us stop after “knowing him” and fail to realize that is why we are flat spiritually.
50% of advertising is wasted, but no one knows which 50%!
I don’t typically know when my witnessing is effective or not… I just do it and let God take care of it.
Spend your day making people feel loved.
The past month I have had people healed of cancer and I have had lots where nothing happened… but everyone felt loved.
Lets get practical… How do I do it?
I will listen to people and when I hear they have a need I will ask to pray for them
I will quote scripture to someone in a loving way to bring comfort
I will talk about what God has done in my life
I will pay for someone’s meal or coffee and when they ask why just simply say because Jesus is crazy about you!
Have I taken it farther?
Sure I have asked people to come to church
I have shared the full gospel with people
I have asked them if they would like to have a personal relationship with Jesus and then lead them in a prayer for salvation…
But the point is- DO SOMETHING… BE AN AMBASSADOR!
Be the Ambassador!

Loneliness
Owning just one guinea pig is illegal in Switzerland, because these herd animals are prone to loneliness.
Loneliness may reduce life expectancy as much as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. A recent meta analysis of 70 studies revealed that even people who live alone and think of themselves as happy have a higher mortality risk than those living with other people.
Loneliness isn’t just being in a room or cubicle all day by yourself. Or stuck at home… You can be lonely working at an office of hundreds…
You can be lonely in a big family
You can be lonely in a big church
You can be lonely married
As men breaking the cycle of loneliness is simply choosing not to go it alone, being vulnerable, open and honest that FIRST you need a friend or friends and SECONDLY letting them be a part of your life.
Proverbs 16:24 Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
Healing - health, deliverance,
Gracious words heal life wounds… do you have anyone who helps heal you?
On FB we get a lot of haters… I go and check out their facebook pages just out of curiosity.
Typically it is evident that they worship masculinity.
Tough, rugged, outspoken, need no one, brash…
AND MY GUT TELLS ME THEY ARE HURTING AND UNWILLING TO DEAL WITH WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON IN THEIR LIFE!
I hope it doesn’t surprise anyone out there listening that I need men who speak into my life. I have hard days, hard weeks, hard months and yes hard years.
*Im not sure how I would have made it these past 10 years without Godly men in my life.
Cancer, cancer, failed church plant, brain tumor, bankruptcy, betrayal and MORE!
But I have a secret weapon…
Scott Askew, Tyrone peterson, Phil Okongo Gwoke, Elijah Carlson, Danny Dodge and my father just to name a few.
HOW DID THEY KNOW TO SPEAK LIFE AND HEALING INTO MY LIFE?
I WAS VULNERABLE… HONEST, OPEN AND TRANSPARENT

If I sat down with you and asked you “so whats your story?”
You would probably tell me about your life…
But what if I wanted to know your story… the one in the future…
Have even you thought about that?
WTFU
You gotta have a why!
we will get out by the end of the year, by Christmas, by NY, by Easter… then you give up.
But if you have a why - you will make it. Victor Frankl realized that his why was that someday he would lecture in a college on the evil of war.
Nick Zeppa - shout out. I went and saw Gary V and had a private supper with him and a few of the guests. it was hosted by stationary astronaughts and the founder and CEO Nick Zeppa. Now I have heard Gary V about a 1000+ times and heard him answer questions. But Nick nailed it- he put some real time in to figuring out the right questions to ask GV. So my thought today is maybe you need someone to come and ask questions about what you are going through to help you find your why?
The spies go into the promise land… 10 say no way!
2 said “we’ve got a why”
God can give it to us… what a great story it will be!
The ten spies did not lie or give a false report… They just didn’t see the story, the WHY that God had give them.
Numbers 14:
6 Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes 7 and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. 8 If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.”
They see their story, they see their why!
What happens?
The 10 spies who do not see their WHY and their whole generation die in the dessert due to a plague.
Don’t let your lack of a WHY be your plague! DON’T LET IT BE THE DEATH OF YOUR DREAMS!
and the other two see the promise land!
A lack of “why” of seeing the story could be the death of you.
LETS PUT SOME LEGS ON THIS THING…
*your child is special needs and it gets overwhelming… Your why might be someday standing in front of thousands of other parents telling them they can do it.
*your business is faltering… Your why might be that you know even if it goes under it will be a great intro to your next business that will blow up in a good way. You will learn so much.
*your health is lagging… your why might be the story of the guy who no matter how many times he had health problems he outlived his doctors
*Your marriage is not exactly Disneyland… *your why is knowing someday you and your wife will laugh about it and be so thankful because of the spiritual depth it brought you.
YOU GET TO CHOOSE YOUR WHY… GOD MAY CHANGE IT, BUT AT LEAST HAVE ONE!
The challenge:
we like to think of our future with no problems… but think about what your story will be because of your problems.
Look at your current problems and script your future story and start living it. THAT’S FAITH!

Mirror neurons in our brain - we typically mimic the emotion that we see in others.
When we try to share Christ or someone blatantly try’s to set us off… how do you respond?
Ever see a comment section explode on social media - lots of hate!
1 Cor. 4:20 The gospel is not mere words, but of power.
V.21 What do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline, or shall I come in love and with a gentle spirit?
CHECK OUT VERSES 11-13
11 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. 12 We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; 13 when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world—right up to this moment.
Thats power.
But how do we respond in Love?
The more time you spend with Jesus and reflect his love for you- the more you can reflect his love to others.
*When someone just ticks you off - you are empowered not to mirror their actions - but mirror Gods actions.
I had a business partner - huge, semi professional bodybuilder… He ate anger for breakfast, we had a business meeting with our staff and he exploded, he stood at the door and just cussed us out… what did I do?
I told walked up to him slowly, I told him I loved him and wanted nothing but the best for him… I hugged him and held him for a few seconds…
- He walked out!
But minutes later he called me confused and convicted… he said he had never had someone respond to him (mimic Jesus) to him like that.

I always know where I parked my car… always. However my wife????
Matt Wallace just posted a new blog on marriage it is incredible!
Many times my wife will call me and say “I am going to be late, I forgot where I parked”. I never forget where I park… sometimes if she drives and parks I will forget… sometimes when we leave a store and start walking out to the car I will just be following her as she walks in the opposite direction… she will stop and say where are we parked? I will point “way over there”. Well then why are we walking this way… I am following you!

21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

I have many counseling appt’s where husband and wife will get frustrated and it is all because the husband does not lead. NOW>>> sometimes there is an overbearing wife… but usually even an overbearing wife will follow her husbands lead IF HE IS LEADING!
We are to lead our homes. Be like Christ…
He had a mission
He did only what the father told him to do
He spent time with the father
He had a team
He did the right thing in the face of opposition
He was willing to lay down his life for his mission
IF YOU TAKE TIME TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FOR YOUR OWN LIFE AND YOUR OWN SPIRITUAL WALK… MOST TIMES YOUR WIFE WILL FOLLOW!
You must lead in order for people to follow!

Mar 2:3 Then they came to Him, bringing one who was paralyzed, who was carried by four.
Mar 2:4 When they could not come near to Him because of the crowd, they unroofed the roof where He was. And digging through, they let down the cot on which the paralytic was lying.
Mar 2:5 And seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, Child, your sins are forgiven to you.
Someone who will expose you to more of what God can do!
As a young kid we had dozens and dozens of special speakers, evangelists, prophets etc… come through my church. We say miracles, prophetic words, healings etc… and I thought you had to be “special” in God’s eyes to have those gifts… until I met regular people who were doing the same thing.
Todd came into my office and began to tell me about how God was using him to heal people and give prophetic words… I was mad- Todd was weird, Why would God use Todd and not me.
Then I met Shane… shane was an ex druggy… and God started using him to in the same way…
WAIT A SECOND… maybe this is for me as well! Shane challenged me to push in for more… he actually just made me hungry for it.
He proved to me that anyone willing to push into God can be used like that.

Pro 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Is your life an open book to at least one person? Do you have someone who can look at your study habits? Your lifestyle? Your relationship with your parents? Your eating habits, your exercise habits, your devotions?
A friend who investigates looks past your actions and asks “why”. They try to help you understand why you have roadblocks and why you sometimes self sabotage yourself.
I was standing in the airport with Phil and was telling him about how Pastor Per got on my case about something I did… Phil listened and when I was done he looked at me with that slow caring glance and said “you deserve to get your butt chewed off!” Then went and pointed out a few other things that I needed uncovered. But in the end he asked me WHY I do that.
He took time to investigate.
How do detectives investigate a murder?
- They take note of everything… They look at all the details
- The find a timeline… when did this start
- Follow every lead
- They treat everything as evidence
- They persevere
We hear all the time that people who are successful are life long learners…
You can do a lot to become a life long learner, read, study, YT etc…
But maybe the one and most important thing you can do is to have a friend who investigates your life on a regular basis to help you learn about yourself.

- Motivate – To provide with an incentive; move to action; impel.
What does it mean to motivate?
The root of the word gives us a clearer indication- Motive.
A friend that motivates you continually reminds you of the motives for pushing in and working harder on every area of your life.
My first time ever trying to pull 500lbs in the deadlift- 30 some years ago. I failed my first 2 attempts.
An old guy came up to me and spoke into me… he clarified my motives. He said you know you can do this, you did the training, quit thinking about it and do it. When you lift it and get 3 white lights then you can start planning on your next meet and pulling 550, then after that 600 and then after that 650 and then 700…
He gave me a clear picture, clear motivation to pull 500- and I did.
1Th 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
1Th 5:14 And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
The choice of your friends will decide the choice of your habits and your MOTIVATION.
My first year at CFNI My marriage was in a crisis. I went to McDonalds one day with a friend Tim Grindstaff to have a cup of coffee and he spoke into my life. He could relate with me and more importantly he reminded me of the motives to hanging in there and loving, serving and being patient with my wife. I left McDonalds more motivated then ever to make my marriage work!
Have you ever heard the saying When you lie down w, dogs you should not be shocked to get fleas?
Let's be brutally honest - some of us have friends who don’t want us to succeed. They feel guilty for not pushing through and achieving their goals. They don’t want you to leave them behind by accomplishing your vision for your life. Spend very little time if any with those so called friends!
Are your friends motivating you closer to your goals or farther away?
The truth is in our spiritual walk God does not typically change us immediately but what he does do is he allows our friends to help change us. God might change us 70%, but he lets us choose friends that will push us into the other 30%.
