but I am a great fighter… in fact just today I stopped at a school playground and beat up a couple 4th grade girls.

Be ye not conformed to this world… i.e not just talk, dress, mindsets etc… but quit trying to keep up with the world.
- oh hey the world is busy, I need to be busy
- the world is buying things they don’t need I will to
- the world is looking for cheap pleasures…
- the world has to be brash and outspoken
Rom. 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Maybe God is saying don’t be conformed to the world… and the idea behind it is not that we will necessarily be like them BUT… WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO US IN TRYING TO BE LIKE THEM.

Compassion Fatigue… basically you just don’t care anymore.
Men can fall into lifestyles of compassion fatigue or empathy exhaustion. Thats danger land. In this state you ruin relationships slowly.
How did Jesus never get fatigued emotionally?
Here is a quick rundown.
- Keep your spiritual disciplines
- Good diet
- Exercise and aerobic exercise
- Someone to talk to
- Get out of your rut and engage in a hobby
- Get good sleep

When my boys were younger we went on Vacation… it started out fantastic, until 4 days in I broke my ankle. And you’re not going to believe this but my boys were thrilled I broke my ankle…. I ended up being ok with it.
This weekend I will be in Fulshear Texas making it rain at their Man up Conference at Thrive Church. I will also be preaching there on Sunday 9:45 and 11:15
October 25th, 26th TDA at Solutions church outside Chicago
Yes, we are on Vacation and I break my leg, but it was before we went to Disneyland, Sea world and Universal studios… we get to Disneyland and the woman at the window gives us our ticket and gives me a voucher for a wheelchair and a fast pass… We got to ride every ride in seconds and we we’re treated like royalty!
That wasn’t my plan… but it sure worked out great for us!

I remember years ago hearing a story of a coach who’s football team was playing in the state championship game. There was only 58 seconds left and they were up by 2 points…. but they were on there own 24 yard line, with 3 and 14. His QB had a rocket for an arm… but the play the coach called was seemingly crazy. They line up and the offensive line holds strong giving him a ton of time… he sends 3 recievers deep - lets just call it “THE HAIL MARY”. But when the pass came down none of his receivers tried to catch it. in fact it sailed easily into the arms of one of the other players- He tries to run away from the receivers going backwards but they were ready… and was immediately tackled at the 13 yard line. There was only 48 seconds left and the crowd was speechless. Again the coach doubles down and on the next 4 plays he all out blitzes knowing the pressure of the moment - a championship game, knowing the other team is down by two, the pressure of not having a safety called… long story short they stop the team cold. They get the ball back with 3 seconds left and run out the clock. After the game parents, media everyone was wondering what the coach was thinking. He said “the reason the other team is in the championship game is due to their kicker, he can kick a 60 yard field goal. He has one more then just a few crucial games with his leg to get them here. I knew if we kicked the ball and they had any kind of return then the kicker would easily bury us and win the game. So we did the smart thing… we threw it to them and we were ready to tackle them as soon as they got the ball. the fact that the young man didn’t just down the ball but instead got so excited he tried to run it back and lost yardage was a bonus. I knew we had a better chance holding them with an interception than trying to kick to them and give them better field position.
-Gods wisdom vs. Our wisdom. look in scripture and God’s wisdom always starts a little off (David, Joseph, Abraham, the disciples…) Maybe you are right where you are supposed to be because you don’t understand God’s wisdom and his ways.
Look at your life… Rather then question where you are at, why not laugh and accept where you are at knowing God has a plan and you just don’t understand it.

YOU KNOW WHAT I LEARNED?

Before you are married it means… don’t let yourself get hot and bothered and tempted.
Once you are married it actually means “don’t wake up your wife if your hot and bothered”. WHO KNEW?

- ACCEPTANCE - In every school you have brains jocks, druggies, invincible, socialites, losers, nobodies, babes, boys, the popular, the unpopular, Kids excel where they are accepted. This goes for home as well.
The beautiful picture of Jesus and his disciples was that he let them be boneheads. He accepted them for who they were. He lived a life that exemplified who God the father was… he said if you have seen me you have seen the father.
He didn’t tell them how to pray, he waited until they asked.
He let them ask dumb questions (can I be the greatest in heaven and sit by you?)
He let them fail… how long will you doubt.
He knew they doubted and he didn’t call them out.
He knew they sinned and didn’t embarrass them.
HE ACCEPTED THEM… but lived a different message.
What happens when you create an environment where you accept people for who they are, but still live like Jesus?
You create a hunger to live like Jesus.
What happens when you accept your kids for who they are but live like Jesus? You create a hunger for Jesus in them.
Same goes for your wife.
Your boss.
Your neighbor.
*YOU ARE WORRIED… they may think I approve of their behavior… not if your behavior is different!
It’s this simple: your greatest Christian influence comes from accepting people = that means loving them regardless of who they are, how they act and what they say and do
…..not from telling them what they are doing wrong.
And in turn you simply do what is right.

If you fail or if you win… this is what you get!
You not only learn, but you typically remember it more and longer.
8 things you get from Risk!
No regrets. Research says that the elderly have one major regret in life and that is they have to many regrets in life. They wished they would have taken more risks!
(It will take you 1 second in heaven before you realize, I should have taken more risks)
It builds resilience. You learn to not give up.
We admire resilience…
But remember there is no resilience without risk. You have to be willing to take on the fight.
It creates opportunities that you did not know where out there!
*people notice you. After Jonathan won, there was panic at the disco. The philistine army started to lose the fight in their mind, hearts and spirits.
You come to realize that success just doesn’t fall in your lap.
What did Johnathan say? Lets go up there and see what God does. you gotta take a risk if you want to see what God might do!
It helps you overcome fear. The old saying that fear is fear until you take the first step. Then it just becomes step one and you move to step 2.
*Risk is the first step to faith.
Risk lights up the brain and causes greater brain growth, greater chemical pay off and makes you feel more alive.
The same way it destroys the mindset of those against you… it increases your confidence in you and others around you.
You find out who your real friends are. Jonathan knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that his armor bearer was loyal even unto death. He would take on this risk with him and he only had a rock!
You have great stories!
Revelation 12:11 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
They took risks and had stories to tell because of it.

I travel and speak… I have for many years now… every now and again I have someone introduce themselves to me and tell me they are the head of the prayer ministry…
I get it… but typically thats the person who shouldn’t have to introduce themselves. it should be recognized by others.
I can’t tell you the last time I told someone I was a Christian, by that I mean, I am to busy telling people about Jesus.
Anyone who is around me more than a few times will recognize that I am a Christ follower…
how about you?
I will be talking to someone and they will find out I am a Christ follower and they will need to tell me they are Lutheran or baptized or confirmed or a Christian etc…. It’s a little fishy.
Look here is what I am trying to say.
When we are guilty of not completely giving our lives to Christ we tend to over sell our walk.
We talk a lot about our leaves, the sun we take in, the deep roots, the fertilizer we have to put up with, how big our branches are….
THE BIBLE SAYS THEY WILL KNOW US BY OUR FRUIT…
Let your walk do the talking.
I Spoke at the National independent Healthcare Association… a few years back. After my time on stage I had a women come up to me and state it more than ask me “you’re a Christian aren’t you”?
FUNNY THING- SHE WASN’T. BUT SHE RECOGNIZED FROM OTHERS WHO WERE LIVING THEIR FAITH OUT LOUD, THAT I WAS.
It’s Friday… you got 1 day to clear up Sunday and get you and your family in church… That’s your challenge!

People who want to give you advice never practice it?
People who want to give you advice do it to late.
People who want to give you advice tell you things you already know like its genius. (you know you should never take your toaster into the shower)

Don’t speak out of anger or pride
Don’t eat crap
Don’t quit exercising
Don’t quit going to church
Don’t quit reading and praying
Keep life simple and safe by making the simple and safe decision.

I was talking to a kid at church and asked him - What’s your desert island album? He said what? I said “so if you are stuck on an island and can only have one album what would it be?”
He looks at me and says I don’t have any photo albums… I have all my pictures on my phone.

We get an unusual picture of faith. Paul rides through a storm in chains. He prophecies to the captain and sailors - we won’t be harmed.
He lands on the island and gets bit by a snake…
Hold on… lets back up.
He is a prisoner… going basically to die for his faith.
He has a history of being beaten, whipped, robbed,
Falsely accused… Not just once but all of these many times!!!
Now riding the storm out
He gets bit by a snake and the people on the island think its because he is guilty…
AND WAIT FOR IT….

I put my dog down today… and it reminded me as a man that its ok to cry. I believe good animals go to heaven. The bible says in heaven the lion will lay down with the lamb… so I know there will be animals.
