Stand out
Thursday Jun 13, 2019
Thursday Jun 13, 2019
6-13-19 Thursday
We all want to stand out in the crowd… unless our zipper is down, then no… our zipper is down and we have pink underwear on… definitely no… pink underwear with yellow duckies… we would rather die than stand out.
I believe most of us want to stand out for something… typically it is for our own selfish desires- stand out to look cool, be admired or envied… but what about standing out for God?
UNIQUE
Similarity and Dissimilarity, Standing Out
The only thing more difficult than finding a needle in a haystack is finding a needle in a needlestack. When an object is surrounded by similar objects it naturally blends in, and when it is surrounded by dissimilar objects it naturally stands out.
Stumbling on Happiness, Daniel Gilbert, pg. 168
It’s not hard to stand out for God… just simply do the opposite of what the world does. Here is an example out of Matthew 5
Matthew 5:43-47
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
I think we miss a simple subtle point here-
Jesus is not saying stand out by raising the dead, preaching turn or burn or by avoiding all sinners or evil people. The truth is he is saying your difference is by simply loving those others don’t love.
I have made it a point to love fat ugly women… There is a very close personal story behind this (for another time… maybe) but anyway I have always made it a point to love on the women that the world would say is unlovable.
I have made it a point to love my muslim neighbors and people in my network.
I have made it a point to love any and all ethnicities, colors creeds and people of other religions.
I have made it a point to love those who are politically opposite of me.
I have even made it a point to love my extended family… we know that some of them are the easiest to hate.
IF WE AS MEN OF GOD ARE GOING TO STAND OUT- LETS STAND OUT FOR LOVING THE OVERLOOKED, THE HATED AND THE DIFFERENT.
This last verse says be ye perfect as Jesus is perfect… WOW!
but what he is saying is that Love is perfect, and loving everyone is Gods perfect way. Practice perfection… practice loving everyone!
Todays challenge? Ask yourself this question… do you blend in with the world? if so…. then change it! Stand out for God by loving everyone!

Just the facts of faith
Wednesday Jun 12, 2019

Muhammad Ali was getting on a plane to fly to Zaire south Africa to fight George Foreman - the Rumble in the Jungle. Just before the plane is about to take off the flight attendant asks Mr. Ali to put on his seatbelt, to which he responds “Superman don’t need no seatbelt”. To which the flight attendant responded “superman also don’t need no plane… now buckle up”.
Ali seemed to have mountains of faith in himself…
FAITH- You gotta have faith faith faith (limp Bizkit, George Michael)
TOP 10 faith facts
- Faith is a lifestyle - you don’t use your faith when you need it, you live a life of faith.
2. Faith is a lifestyle For people of every walk of life
You don’t have to be super spiritual to live a life of faith. You don’t have to be a pastor, evangelist or perfect.
3. Faith gives substance to things hoped for
Faith is tangible. You hope for something (a unselfish Godly desire) You begin to practice putting your faith behind it and seeking God for it. And Faith starts to make it materialize.
4. Faith is the evidence of things not seen
How do you know it will happen? Because I have faith that it will happen. Faith is my evidence, not the thing itself.
5. Faith maintains a good report.
Faith is positive. It is always looking at the best, it is always believing in a loving and supernatural God who is on your side!
6. Faith understands the world was framed by faith
Everything in this world was created by faith. Even the bad things were in a sense created by doubt and fear which is simply faith in satan.
7. Faith is unmoved by things unseen. Rom.4:17
My faith is not subject to what I see or don’t see happening. It is based on the word of God and who Christ is.
8. Faith enables us to please God Heb. 11:6 & 4:2
Living a sinless life is not the way we please God, we please God by living a faith filled life. Meaning, we not only have access to his promises but we act (i.e. faith) on them.
A sinless life can be a boring life- a faith filled life is an adventure!
9. Every believer has been given a measure of faith Rom.12:3
Faith is a muscle. We all have the same muscles… no one has more muscles. But some of us have them more developed than others.
Develop your faith- grow your faith by practicing it, using it etc…
We all started out with the same measure… some of us just worked it out more.
10. Faith comes by hearing God Rom.10:17
hearing - Rhema word - hearing the actual spoken word of God and acting on it.
My first ever time hearing God speak to me (and I don’t mean audible) was in 5th grade at the East Town mall. God said go to the book store…
The ABC's of Faith
- Agree phil.2:3 -1 John 5:14-15
Agree on who God says you are and what he says you have.
B. Believe Mk. 11:23-25
Belief is action. Put action behind your faith.
I am going to be moving out of my house pretty soon in the near future. I believe it, so I have been slowly cleaning out my office and getting rid of books and stuff…
C. Confess
Know this one thing for sure. Once you decide to start to practice faith you will be hit up side the head by doubt, worry, second guessing, your sin conscience will kick in…
That is when you confess Gods word over your life.
D. Do -be a do'er of Gods word.
Don’t try to just practice faith in one area of your life. You must be doing what his word says in every area.
i.e. if you are a lousy husband and you are practicing faith to get a better job or more money… it don’t work that way. Remember faith is a lifestyle not a pet project for your wants!

I once heard an incredible man by the name of Stephen Glenn make this statement (he was a child psychologist I believe) he said “Delayed gratification is the most definitive QUALITY in a persons life to earmark their passage into healthy adulthood.” Basically he said the more you are able to delay gratification the more mature and capable you are to handle life- you are truly an adult of the highest caliber.
How you doing with delayed gratification.
Got a credit card? How many expenses are just wants and not emergencies?
How many clothes in the closet you never wear anymore!
How many hobbies you start and not finish, how many projects?
How is that diet going?
How many times have you used your gym membership?
… I could keep going. But lets get to what we see in scripture.
When we study the life of Moses, we see a man who had to learn how to delay gratification, had to learn to wait… here are a few things that stand out in his life.
Delayed gratification:
1- I am not going to get my way
- 2 I will have to wait longer than I expected
- 3 In waiting I am acknowledging that God is in charge
-4 Waiting announces that Gods got a perfect will and it’s not yours
-5 Waiting announces that Gods got perfect timing and its not yours
If you read through the book of Exodus you may get the impression that Moses had a fast track to being in charge.
His first 40 years was in the presence of the King, having the best of everything.
The next 40 we may miss… he was a shepherd… 40 years in the desert!
The next 40 years he wandered in the desert with the children of Israel.
BUT IN ALL THIS WAITING GREAT THINGS HAPPENED:
He faced Pharaoh and his magicians
He was the instrument that brought the people out of Egypt
He was the one chosen to bring the ten commandments
He was the greatest leader in scripture next to Jesus
But in all the waiting… he was called the most humble man on earth. The waiting, the delayed gratification is what brought the greatest impact on his life!
Remember what I always say: life is an adventure… the only way to live it to it’s fullest is by faith in Jesus. Trust him, walk in the peace that he will have his way if you just quit trying to rush things and worship him in your actions, thoughts and life!

WOD with God
Monday Jun 10, 2019
Monday Jun 10, 2019
6-10-19 Monday
Every day holds its own challenges and unique stories behind it. Somedays are perfect… some days are not so perfect and some days are just out and out rotten… but hopefully you live for the challenge!
Ok there are few things I am passionate about. Jesus, my wife, family - grandkids, guitar and powerlifting and nutrition. (yes this is the guy who choked on a dorito last week for breakfast)
I owned a gym here in Minnesota and it was at one time rated the #1 powerlifting gym in the country… We got all kinds of people at the gym. We had lifters and athletes of every kind. Powerlifters, bodybuilders, highland game competitors, professional athletes, college athletes, HS and middle school athletes, olympic lifters… but the weirdest people I knew were the crossfit people..
I teased them a lot.
I used to say why would you want to be the best “exerciser you could be”. Just be strong, lift for a purpose other then reps…
ok, it was all in good fun… but what I did love about crossfit is what they call a WOD.
WORK OUT OF THE DAY.
You just showed up and it was on the board. You did it no questions asked. You had no say in it, you didn’t complain and your form could absolutely suck… and trust me most times it really did suck.
I find it a perfect metaphor for life in Christ.
Every day is a different Work out in your spiritual walk.
You don’t know what is coming
You don’t get to choose
You don’t complain
You don’t ask questions
And yes your form may suck… but you did it anyway.
And why?
You get stronger, you build resilience. You up your reps and shorten your time. You build pride in your walk for God.
READ -
Romans 5:3 Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
As you progress in your WOD… they have greater and greater challenges.
Matthew 25:21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.Come and share your master’s happiness!’
You serve well in your WOD with God and you get a more challenging WOD!
I was talking to a young man who was 18 and a senior in high school years ago. He shared with me his WOD with God over the course of his 4 years in HS.
He became serous about his relationship with God. He wanted others to know about Jesus so he would show up early to school and pray over the desks in his class. He then joined a PRIDE group in school simply to love them and share Jesus with them. He then started praying for his teachers and even having words of knowledge for them. And finally he started to preach outside his school in the park walk… even though kids would mock him. He talked about every challenge he took was a way God strengthened him for the next challenge…
WHAT WILL TODAY’S WOD PREPARE YOU FOR TOMORROW?

Offending Christians with the Gospel
Friday Jun 07, 2019
Friday Jun 07, 2019
6-7-19 Friday
I have a friend who is the real deal gangsta. He has done hard time, he has murdered people, (and is still for hire) he always has contraband on him… and you may say why hang out with this guy? It started because he wanted to save his marriage… and now simply Because I love him and I want him to know Jesus.
WAKE THE FAITH UP
Straight out of the gate, let me be up front- I am tired of people apologizing for doing what Scripture tells us to do, for what Scripture says is right and wrong… I will live, speak and act in love, but I will not worry about the consequences. As I stated last week, I will not be bullied by peer pressure, education, degrees, hollywood, the media, etc… I will love everyone and DO AND SPEAK THE TRUTH IN LOVE.
I was so proud of our country when we elected President Obama. Was I a supporter? No… but I was proud that we climbed that milestone of race in politics at the highest level.
But regardless I prayed for President Obama, I prayed for Bill and Hillary and many other politicians. I don’t agree with them all- in fact very few - but I do what Scripture says to do.
So last week the president goes to a church (pastor’s name is David Platt- he is the real deal, a solid dude) he gets the chance to pray for the president… and 2 days later he has to apologize for offending people. He says “I know that some within our church, for a variety of valid reasons, are hurt that I made this decision,”
That not might strike you as odd… you might be thinking he is just concerned about how it looks and this is wise…
OK… so If he calls out adulterers and fornicators he should then apologize for what scripture says TO DO.
“Hey if there are any guys out there looking at boobies on the internet or messing around with other women outside of marriage… well I hope I didn’t offend anyone for speaking out against that”
So now we have to worry about offending non christians for doing what scripture said… AND NOW WORRY ABOUT OFFENDING CHRISTIANS FOR DOING WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS TO DO.
Let me remind you what 1 Timothy says:
1 Timothy 2:1-2 - I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
You know Jesus was maligned for being with sinners, prostitutes and tax collectors (the then known mafia)
I guess he would have offended people today by being with politicians.
Who are we as Christian men trying to impress? Who do we hold ourselves accountable to?
Gal. 1:10
For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Rom. 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind
CONFORM: Don’t fall into the mindset and pattern of this world…
The world wants to judge
Jesus wants to love
The world wants to argue their rights
Jesus wants to give you freedom from others expectations
The world wants to yell and rebel to prove it’s power
Jesus said empty yourself of your power and I will fill you with real power.
Matthew 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
You may actually see me with a murder, a prostitute, a homosexual, a lesbian, a democrat, a gun lover, a crooked politician and a racist cop.
HOW DO I KNOW? because I actually am friends with all these people. But they will tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt I love them.
People are going to judge you- get over it and do what God says to do.
If I had the chance to pray for the president would I? of course… Scripture says to.
When you start to fear man more than God or his word…
You have chosen to worship man… while your at it why don’t you just curtsy…

I want to ready you a passage of scripture out of Acts. you may be familiar with it, but I want to take a new look at it.
ACTS 2:16-21
16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17
“‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
19
I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20
The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21
And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.
This is obviously speaking of the end times… if we are not in the end times we are definitely getting closer. But my comment is
What are your dreams and visions?
If you are a follower of Christ I believe you should have a dream or vision given to you.
Here are things that will keep you from going after your God given dream:
- It will seem unreasonable… that is why it is a dream. Would you expect anything else from God?
- It will seem out of your natural reach. Yes, that is why you will need God to achieve it.
- It will not happen immediately so DON’T GIVE UP!
- You will need the help of others.
- It will die… what? Yes many times our first dreams die… and they come back to life in a new and more supernatural way.
so what is your dream for your life?
What is the vision for your life?
Todays challenge: Write it down, write them all down… AND…
Go for it! Don’t look for a strategy, plan or direction… just start praying and asking God to show you where to push in!

flip the script
Wednesday Jun 05, 2019

6-5-19 WEDNESDAY
What is the secret to great relationships?
Time together? Honesty? Great communication? Common goals? Working through your differences?
I am warning you right now… Todays podcast is going to flip the script… wait for it.
The Gottman institute:
It is not about working through all your differences… It is not necessarily about great communication, or any of the other things we hear in todays world.
They state that the relationships that last and thrive have one major thing in common- they work on keeping their friendship alive. They focus on what they do have in common and enjoy together, They understand the “bids” from others.
- Be intentional. Set aside time (start with 20 minutes) where you can focus on your partner without any distractions and shut off the TV and put the cell phones in another room.
- Let yourself be vulnerable. It’s a pathway to intimacy and it helps you build and maintain trust.
IN ORDER TO BUILD INTIMACY THEY SHARE SOME QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK EACH OTHER THAT WILL GET THE BALL ROLLING.
1. What is your best and worst memory of your childhood?
Talking about your childhood experiences, both the positive and the things that hurt you, can give your partner insight into what has shaped you as an adult. Knowing their beliefs can bring more understanding and appreciation of your partner’s beliefs, ways of being, and differences.
2. List your three biggest needs, and how can I fulfill them?
One of the best ways to make sure your spouse feels satisfied and connected is to fulfill their needs. Think about the things that are essential to feeling happy in your relationship, and give your partner specific ways that they can meet your needs. This doesn’t mean they are at your beck-and-call, but when they do things that are important to you, how could you not feel even closer?
3. Of your friends and family, who do you think has the best relationship and why?
Sometimes people have a hard time articulating what they want or need in a relationship, but they can recognize it when they see it in another couple.
4. What is the best part about being together?
As time passes, you grow together as a couple. You’ll continue to experience new things as a couple and your answers may change as the years go by. Revisit this one frequently.
5. What kinds of things do I do that annoy you, and what kinds of behaviors do you think I should stop or modify?
You can hope that your partner is honest with you about your behaviors that bother them. This isn’t always so. Some people are conflict avoidant and they ignore these actions, only to have feelings come out in resentment or a rage later. It might hurt your ego, but it’s not realistic to believe that we won’t annoy our partner, even unintentionally. Being proactive can help minimize unnecessary negativity.
6. Does anything keep you awake at night that you haven’t shared with me?
Sometimes your partner may keep something from you because they don’t want to burden you with their troubles, knowing you have enough stress of your own. When you know each other’s stressors, you can provide support, understanding, and empathy.
7. Is there something that you’ve dreamed of doing but haven’t yet? What’s prevented you from doing this?
Your partner may have different dreams than when you first met him. That’s okay. Asking this question gives you insight into what they want and what blocks them from achieving their dreams. You want to be your spouse’s biggest supporter in reaching their goals.
8. Why do you love me? And when did you feel most loved by me?
It’s easy to say the three words, thinking that might be enough. But knowing why reminds your partner that you recognize their unique qualities. Also, people love differently and thus they feel loved differently. Differences are inevitable, but it’s important to have ongoing communication about what you both need to feel the most loved by each other.
9. What would you consider unforgivable and why?
It’s not surprising for couples to make brief statements like, “If you cheated I would leave you” or “If you blew our savings I would get a divorce.” They don’t talk in-depth about the pain that they would feel and why. Knowing in greater detail what would deeply hurt your husband can bring a dose of reality and help protect your relationship.
10. How can we make our sex/intimacy life better?
One of the most vulnerable areas in most marriages, if not the most, is physical intimacy. When a repeated rejection to sex is taken as a personal rejection, disconnection can easily set in.
Be gentle and positive, and focus on the things you need and want (as opposed to what your partner is doing “wrong” or not enough of).
Todays challenge: LETS FLIP THE SCRIPT… TODAYS PODCAST IS REALLY ABOUT INTIMACY WITH GOD. Listen to this podcast again but assume it is about you and your relationship with God and watch just how on point it is!

What would motivate you to fully engage in your Christian walk?
(influencer) by Patterson, Grenny, Maxfield, McMillan, Switzler
It turns out that phobics typically remain phobics because
they rarely disconfirm their unfounded fears by approaching
them head-on. Since lectures don't work with phobics and you
can't get them to conquer their fear through personal experience, you have to find something in between-something
more than words and less than personal action. This “in be-
tween” thing turns out to be one of the most highly valued tools
in any influence genius's arsenal. It's referred to as vicarious
experience.
Here's how vicarious experience works. When you expose
subjects to other people who are demonstrating a vital behavior, the subjects learn from the surrogate's successes and failures. Watching others in action is the next best thing to experiencing something on your own. It's also far safer than, say,
touching a six-foot nocturnal predator. In Bandura's case, he
asked subjects to watch the therapist handle a snake in order
to see what happened.
Bandura asked subjects to watch from the doorway of the
room-or if that was still too difficult, to watch through glass-
as the therapist walked into the room containing the snake, took
a look at it, opened the terrarium, petted the snake, and finally
removed the boa and placed it on his or her lap. After the subjects watched someone else handle the snake, Dr.Bandura
then asked them to follow similar steps.First they had to sim-
ply walk into the room.
But this wasn't enough to put everyone at ease. Some of the
subjects asked for protective gear-hockey goalie gloves, a
baseball catcher chest protector and mask, and so on.Now,
dressed like a samurai warrior, subjects entered the room and
stood next to the enclosed tank. Gradually, after several tries
they worked up to removing the terrarium cover and then
quickly retreated from the room. No harm done. After a bit
more experience, they finally touched the snake. Later still they
touched the snake without gloves and so forth. Eventually subjects sat in the room by themselves with the six-foot constrictor draped across their lap.
And now for the real miracle:The entire process took only
three hours! People who had been debilitated most of their lives
by a paralyzing fear were completely “cured” in a single morn-
ing. And the results lasted a lifetime, Once the phobics had a
personal and positive interaction with the snake, they never
regressed, and it improved their lives forever.
Who do you spend your time with?
maybe the Christian walk is hard for you to really live out because you have not seen it lived out in others- in person, real life!
The disciples saw Jesus day after day moving in the power of the Holy Spirit… it moved them.
When you hang with those who live it out things happen:
- you see it is possible - it’s not just the “super Xn”
- you see that those used by God are human just like you - they like sports, they eat greasy food, they have hobbies, they can talk about normal life
- you get hungry to see it in your own life and your own daily life -
EVER HAVE AN “I WANT THAT MOMENT”! John G. Lake says hunger is good, maybe the best thing… a nation will put up with lots of things from it’s dictator until it becomes hungry.
- You realize circumstances are never perfect - you see men praying in crowded restaurants, the gym, at secular concerts, at the store with a long line behind you
- You see them fail and still move forward
- you start influencing others the way they influenced you
- You start doing it on your own
- You start to realize to really fully live out the Christian walk is uncomfortable… and if you do it long enough it becomes comfortable. LIKE THE SAYING GOES, BECOME COMFORTABLE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE!

Mark 14
The Last Supper
12 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
13 So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. 14 Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”
16 The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
17 When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. 18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”
19 They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”
20 “It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me. 21 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”
23 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
24 “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said to them. 25 “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
26 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
In order to understand the love of God in this situation you must understand the climate in which the upper room took place!
He washes Judas feet. An absolute act of humility… washing the feet of the one who will turn on you, lie about you and send you to your death… and you still serve him.
Remember!
After telling them someone at the table is going to betray him, he then says do this in remembrance of me.
I am sure the disciples later after Christ resurrection thought through Christ love for Judas… and had memories of Jesus letting take care of the money, washing his feet, healing the sick etc…
Remembering how much Jesus loved even the one who would betray him.
The smell of perfume and remembering when Judas wanted the money…
The smell of bread and thinking of Jesus using Judas to feed the 5000
The sight of fish and how God used Judas to multiply the meal
The disciples at one time were arguing who was the greatest in the kingdom… now they are arguing about wether or not it is them that will betray the Lord.
Judas at the left side of Jesus and Jesus breaks bread and hands it to him. this was a special act of honor in a home. Jesus was not honoring the act of betrayal, but rather letting Judas know he loved him, even as he was about to betray him into the most horrific death.
You cannot destroy the love that God has for you…
You can sin
You can turn your back
You can deny him
You can fight against him
You can curse him
and yes… you can betray him AND HE WILL STILL LOVE YOU

WARNING!
TODAYS PODCAST IS MORE OF A RANT!
Quit fighting for your excuses…
I hear people all the time say things like Gods grace covers my sin
We all sin
No one is perfect
God didn’t come through
God failed me…
God isn’t like what I used to think
Jesus is not a republican
Jesus wasn’t there when THEY let me down
Todays church is not representative of who Jesus is
WHY do you let life and circumstances reframe your theology or your outlook on scripture?
Scripture is true - 100% true. It does not matter if my wife leaves me, my child dies, I get cancer, I lose my business, I am molested by my pastor, uncle etc…
You let satan steal, kill and destroy in your life (and that’s only part of his job) and then he whispers in your ear… Why would God allow this? Why doesn’t he care?
So rather then run to Christ and seek him, we pull away and begin to create our own new way of thinking about scripture and Jesus. Our own new identity of how we will choose to be a follower of Christ.
let me remind you:
The most clear examples in scripture of what our christian walk is like is from Paul the apostle. 2 Tim. 2:3-13
A farmer
An athlete
A soldier
The farmer is a fool to shout out at God and say “you didn’t send enough rain, you don’t love me”
The soldier is confused when he says my friends died in battle and you didn’t protect them- you didn’t care.
The athlete is scammed when he says “I tried my hardest and I still lost”… you lied to me!
Jesus didn’t say to the disciples… now serve me, it will be easy, if it gets tough you can change my scripture to accommodate your uncomfortableness.
Yes this lifestyle is ok, times change right?
Yes this religion is well meaning
Yes if you try hard you will get to heaven
and my favorite… I am not sure scripture is really clear on that…
AND THE MOST DANGEROUS ONE OF ALL…(DRUM ROLL PLEASE)
Well what I think…. WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK!
HOW MANY TIMES IS IT OK TO GET SHOT IN WAR?
Zero!
But it may happen, but I would be a fool to compromise my beliefs and say “well, I will probably get shot, but that’s just the way it is…
My job is to live scripture out implicitly - 100% to the best possible most accurate way I can. Without changing my beliefs because of what has happened to me.
I have had 3 cancers, a broken neck, paralysis in my arms, a brain tumor, a sucky marriage, a bankruptcy, friends betray me, people I love lose their fight to addictions, broken promises and crushed dreams AND MORE…
But I am living for God and believing in what his word says, I will not back down, shut up, sit quietly or live any less then 100% for God. I will not be bullied academically, emotionally, circumstantially, politically or socially. I will not fail in my pursuit to live out scripture to it’s fullest regardless of what my family says or how they change or what hurts come my way. I will love the sinner- but I will call it sin!
I am all in! Sin is sin!
God is Good.
I am living for him- just try and stop me!
And when we stand in heaven, I won’t stand as someone who has achieved it all or lived perfectly… but God as my witness- I will have tried with everything in me-with no excuses.
I am trying to take as many people to heaven with me, I am sharing the gospel unapologetically and I will love the sinner while speaking to his sin as sin! I will not allow the cruelty of life or unknown shadows of circumstances allow me to become captious in my attitude towards the Bible.
Look people are disappointed by others, other Christian leaders, by life and it’s hardships… but let me be clear on one thing: if your mindset was “I tried Jesus/religion/church and it failed me”
I STRONGLY DISAGREE! It tried you and you failed. The Christian walk is a war… and many times it is a spiritual mind/mental warfare. If satan can get you to be disappointed in God and change scripture to accommodate your life… he wins and you lose!
Todays challenge: quit making excuses and just live it!
