Years ago my buddy Derek Cortez and I were driving from Chicago to Madison. On the back roads. We were cruising through this dense country side and at about 65 mph. I quickly shouted out, he look at those pheasant… as we passed by this heavily wooded area. He laughed and said “there is no way you could see pheasant in those woods”. I challenged him so he turned the car around. We drove back up to the wooded area. We got out and walked about 20 yards and I pointed them out and where they were hiding in the woods. To his amazement he saw them, but even more amazed was that I saw them at 65mph… but trust me- I got nothing on God when it comes to seeing birds!

Wow, I am worth a bunch of sparrows… THATS SPECIAL…
I don’t get the big deal… Until you see the context.
So understand the text and the focus. Jesus is talking about the mundane… The hairs on your head, the number constantly changes!
Many sparrows… just think of all the God knows about just one sparrow, how fast it flys, where it flys, what it eats, how many grains it has eaten, how many times it has dive-bombed, swooped up, out over in through by etc… if it loses a feather or feathers. All the details God must know about one freaking bird… now multiply that times a multitude of birds.
The sparrow is of no great value to us… but it obviously is to God. And so when he says you are worth more than a multitude of sparrows… its a big deal. He knows everything about you EVERYTHING!
And he still loves you and watches over you.
v.29 “not one will fall outside your fathers care” - outside your fathers care: outside his divine will, or direct care. Nothing escapes his eye!
I think one of the biggest lies we believe is that God doesn’t care. He is not paying attention. We are overlooked, neglected and not special enough for him to focus on. We are average and so he doesn’t have time for average. Or we have sinned so he no longer watches over us… or when he does look at us it is only to correct us by whacking us with his big stick.
IT’S ALL LIES!
God sees you, knows you, created you, is focused on you, loves you, knows every detail about you and wants to communicate with you. So go for it!

Have you ever seen one of those butts… you know the kinda butt that just jumps out at you… a but that makes you shake your head and wonder how in the heck, Today we are talking about a butt that will turn everybody’s head.

-Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all his righteousness will be added unto you. This verse invites Interruption, personal investment, discomfort, hard work and risk! But we must do it as it is stated as a command.
But - interruption
Don’t you love the word but… life was hard but… I was sick but… We were fighting but…
it invites the joy of the unexpected
Seek - Hard work, get to the bottom of this thing no matter what.
Ye - Personal investment, its up to you. Wether or not your Christian walk blossoms and grows and is fruitful… is all up to you!
First - discomfort - everything else is secondary, actually not important at all compared to what is first. Literally it means “before anything else… Seek God”
Kingdom of God - His way of doing things
His Righteousness - Risk (The character of God)
Have a mission and stick to it. Matt. 6:33 (but Matt. 6:34 says “then you won’t have to worry about anything else, because your mission clarifies your life, gets rid of stress.
Clarity destroys stress.Clarity attracts people!
Our problem many times is that we try to solve our problems by adding more things to life!
Jesus words state so simply… to do just the opposite.
Isn’t it amazing that by simply doing Gods number one priority we simplify the rest of our life.

It’s a pretty classic story one told many times…
A pychology experiment in which a principal took 3 teachers and told them they were the brightest teachers in the district so they are going to be given classrooms full of the highest IQ students. so that year...the students were smarter then any kids in the whole school. The teachers spent lots of time with them and extra learning. the principal at the end called the teachers in and said..i have a confession to make...those aren't the smartest students. they are just regular average kids…

-You Believe that You believe in God, but the real question is "do you believe God". Belief is action! If man is not made for God, why is he only happy in God?
Dr. Albert Ellis discovered this mental chain of events, he was the pioneer or cognitive psychology. This pattern can be positively and negatively cyclical. BELIEFS (how people see the world and life in general) PRODUCES THOUGHTS (These find their source in their deep seated beliefs) PRODUCE FEELINGS (thoughts produce feelings. This is the motor to our actions) PRODUCE ACTIONS which in turn ultimately causes us to be/act what we believe – we act who we believe we are…thus creating our future.
The change of thoughts actually changes the chemicals in our brain and in turn changes the wiring of our brain… and it has nothing to do with feelings. We simply choose to think differently and it rewires our brain.
My iPhone is filled with notes that are tons of scriptures on specific themes.
I have a note with about 100 verses on healing
I have about a note with about 100 verses on provision and blessings
I have them on the gifts of the Holy Spirit
I have notes on hearing Gods voice
I have notes on the believers authority
Why? Because I constantly want to rewire my brain with Gods word. You will notice that these notes directly coincide with the areas we typically have the most doubts on.
Important to note: because doubts will rewire our brain more and more for doubt!
So it is warfare to reboot the brain with Gods thoughts!
That is why one of the pieces of Gods armor is the helmet of salvation.
If my brain is saved then it should only think God thoughts… So I have continually trained my brain.
If I ask you if would you like to go out to eat at Outback steak house or McDonalds you know you are going to pick Outback. Why?
when you fill up on the word of god {outback steakhouse} you wont be tempted by a happy meal {the worlds ideals, ideas and thoughts}

From Loss to lesson
When things don’t go as planned!
Accept the unknown… knowing that God knows what you don’t. Trust is easy when you can see the way and you feel like your steering… but when you can’t see… and the steering is broke….
Don’t just accept the unknown… but be excited about it and what God is going to teach you!
Abe could have seen it as a loss, but rather looks it as an adventure.
After Abe leaves he quickly learns it is for a great nation and a new land.
From Loss to Liberty
We think change is always bad… but what if it actually brings greater liberty. Shift your focus on how this may actually be a great thing for you and your future.
Some times things don’t go as planned due to our own dumb mistakes. Abraham Marries his handmaiden as asked by his wife Sara… this does not go well. She births an Ishmael. Sara is mad, Hagar gets kicked out… Abraham had to feel like he was to blame for this detour in plans.
From Loss to lead
So what’s the new direction. When things go up in smoke look for which the way the wind is taking the smoke. What is my new direction, what might God be saying is the new step.
As Abe continues to seek God he and his wife get a name change.
'Abram' means "exalted father". God tells him that he will be the father of many, and changes his name to 'Abraham' which means "father of a multitude". 'Sarai' means "princess", but since she will be the mother of nations, with kings of peoples coming from her, God changes her name to 'Sarah' which means "noblewoman."
To many times I have looked back and thought… wow that change wasn’t for my good… it was for my best!
The change comes back to reaffirm what God wants to do in my life and in a greater way than I had actually expected.

So I’ve had a few adulterous affairs on my wife… I am guilty. I am not kidding you I have… but should she divorce me? Should I divorce her? She doesn’t really know about them… what to do!
If you have lusted you have had an affair….
If you are single it does not exclude you from today… let me explain.
I challenge kids in my talks on abstinence about SPERM.
How sex affects you s.p.e.r.m.
I use this example to prove a point… what if after this talk you see me outside making out with one of your teachers?
We are going off script today…
First off, I counsel a lot of people… but I am not a certified counselor… these are strictly my opinions based on scripture. You do your own biblical research and prayer over it.
Conversation in the gym yesterday with a young man married a few years… Wanted to know about Divorce after adultery.
Scripture gives I believe 3 reasons for divorce:
- Matthew 19:9 if a spouse commits adultery.
2. If a spouse leaves you due to your walk with Christ. 1 Cor. 7
3. Breaking the one union covenant between husband and wife.
What I mean is when you get married you become one in God’s eyes. If you commit adultery you are breaking that one union commitment… if you beat your spouse you again are breaking that one union covenent…
If your spouse completely pulls away from you physically, emotionally, mentally and sexually… almost as if they have divorced you, except they still live in the same house… again it is breaking that one union covenant
But here is the rest of the story…
Here are questions you have to ask:
Does the spouse have past issues that help cause the affair… Daddy issues, Rape or abuse in the past, rampant sexual history etc…
Will counseling help this?
Will you divorcing help your spouse?
Did you add fuel to the fire… ie. have you been an inattentive spouse.
Did you push them away etc…
Where you married as a virgin? If you had a spouse commit adultery and you yourself have had sex before marriage with others… realize you are just as guilty as they are. Did you ever ask them to forgive you for your past?
You reap what you sow… right?
IF you are going to work through it are you willing to take the hard steps…
Get tested for STD’s, HIV and aids
Change your schedule, change your job, pony up money for counseling etc…
Will you give up drinking
Will you give up certain friends
Will you start taking your spiritual walk seriously with God
Will you get to church every Sunday
Will you get into an accountability group and be honest
Are you willing to deconstruct how this first started… it always starts in the mind…
Do you realize that even if it was not your fault… most of the times about 90% of the time you still had a part in it somehow. You made it easier for them to do this.
None of these are excuses to why you had an affair… but it does mean you should seek out some long term professional counseling.
I have a friend who has a spouse who has had quite a few affairs that we know about… probably a few we don’t know about. He has also been caught viewing pornography… But she chooses to stay with him. She chooses to try to make things work, much of it is a front, but God bless her for trying… I would have told her to bail because I do not believe God is the lord of her husbands heart, he is cold to the Holy Spirit and does not have a vibrant walk with Jesus- so there is not much hope… but she will do what she will do- and she has the right to.
I have another friend who’s wife had an affair. He and her worked through it. His mindset was… I have lusted over women, and God calls that adultery. My wife had an affair so I am not going to point fingers and blame her or hate her… I am simply going to use this as the ultimate example of how much I love her. I told her I love her so much I will not leave her nor forsake her no matter what she does. It was the ultimate show of love to his wife and they have an amazing marriage today.
Look, I know there are a million examples and they all have their own little nuances, but if at all possible stop adultery before it happens, don’t get a divorce until you have tried everything- and I mean everything.
And finally realize that God hates divorce… but what that means is he hates what it does. He hates the walls it leaves up in peoples lives for future relationships, he hates how it affects children, he hates how it brings immense poverty to so many people. He hates how it affects a childs view of the father heart of God…
If God hates something that much… I would do everything I could to not do it.

My Dad always told me “son don’t be too quick to find faults”. Yep, he was a great man… but a lousy geologist.

Fallen Christian leaders
Now listen, I am not saying that I agree or disagree with these topics or people. And I am not saying that there is a lot right and wrong with much of these- what I am saying is that it’s not your job to fault find every little detail about others who talk and post about such things or about the topics that are out there.
Think of the wasted amount of time we use on stupid trivial topics… when we should stay focused on the majors.
Let me break it down for you in a very controversial example: Wether you are pounding your point about Racism, the Trump administration, Guns, the democrats, the melting polar ice caps or the return of the McRib… if you are not first praying over these situations and people…and I mean serious heaven shaking prayers you are simply being captious. No amount of posting, boasting fault or fact finding will change our world for the better… only gut busting prayer.
*Here is the bottom line: if you are not praying seriously over your “soap box item” then no matter how much you work towards it- you simply are trivializing it by not praying over it. (it’s so important… but pray over it??? uhm…)
AND if you are debating and calling faults on others and not praying for them like Christ would - again your Christianity is pretty thin and emaciated.
Titus 3:10 As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him
How many people should delete us on Facebook for crossing line.
Have you stirred up division by something you posted or something you said? Maybe it’s time you get deleted.
Or maybe you should delete others for their behavior… but either way it sounds like God is pretty serious about the matter.

You must realize that the purpose and plan of sanctification is that it is a process. What is sanctification? It is the process of becoming more like Jesus.
Much like a rocket… a rocket is off course the majority of the time while in flight… but it is ALWAYS recalibrating to stay on target to reach it’s goal.
Did you catch that? Staying on target is a must to reach your goal. You can do a lot of things… all good things, but if it is not on target to reach your goal then you simply have a lot of accomplishments but no purpose or meaning… and you have not reached the goal of being more like Christ.
Paul says I have my eye on the goal… Have you ever had that phenomenon where you never notice a red toyota until your wife or someone says “I really like those red Toyotas”. Then for some strange reason you start seeing them all over. When we took a vacation to Florida a few years back we rented an Acadia and we loved it. Kim and I both said we had never seen one in Minnesota and we both thought maybe it’s because they are not good in snow or cold weather… Made sense to us anyway. I kid you not, we flew home and landed in the airport and just waiting to be picked up we saw 4 Acadia’s… they were everywhere!
So what do you focus on in your Christian walk? Because what you focus on you will see more of and manifest.
It all depends on your goals…
If you want to see God more, see more people come to Christ, see God use your more, have the Holy Spirit move in your more… focus on that and you will see it happen every day!
You will see opportunities every day.
8 ideas to readjust your goals and focus.
-1 Material possessions won’t make you better or happier, so if that’s a goal check it off your list now.
- 2 You can’t make everyone happy if it is your goal you are bound to lose yourself and feel miserable.
- 3 Being perfect is an unrealistic goal. Be a little more like Jesus every day should be the goal.
- 4 Your achievements and successes won’t matter on your deathbed if they didn’t make your more like Christ.
- 5 The more you want to find happiness in the outside world the more likely you will fail. Happiness is based on Happenstance, The goal should be fulfillment.
- 6 Your actions speak louder than your words. Stop trying to influence others with what you say but make it a goal to influence them by what you do.
- 7 You will die and have no idea when so don’t waste time on anything else other than the goal to be like Jesus.
- 8 Your talent is not only sent from God it also grows when you make a consistent effort and practice to be more like him.

There are certain lines in movies that I love to hang on to… as a kid growing up I loved all the Rambo movies… one of the greatest lines was in Rambo 2 where Colonel Trautman is in prison and the general holding him comes in to interrogate him regarding Rambo… at one point he looks at Trautman and says…
Zaysen: Who does he think he is…God?
Colonel Trautman: No… God would show mercy… He won’t.
But it’s a good question… “who do you think you are?”
How many of you are perfect? Holy? Righteous? Sinless? Set a part? Redeemed?
Guess what? I am!
And so are you!
Phil. 3:9-11
9 My passion is to be consumed with him and not clinging to my own “righteousness” based in keeping the written Law. My “righteousness” will be his, based on the faithfulness of Jesus Christ—the very righteousness that comes from God. 10 And I continually long to know the wonders of Jesus more fully and to experience the overflowing power of his resurrection working in me. I will be one with him in his sufferings and I will be one with him in his death. 11 Only then will I be able to experience complete oneness with him in his resurrection from the realm of death.
Romans 3:

2 Cor. 5: God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
If you believe you are going to struggle with sin… you will struggle with sin. If you think, no one can actually live a holy righteous life, then you won’t. But if you believe Scripture and what it says…
You are holy, righteous, perfect, sinless… it will start to affect you in an amazing way.
Here is the absolute iron clad truth: You will act like the person you believe yourself to be. You will never act yourself into the person you want to be. It always starts with what you tell yourself.
And for us… we tell ourselves what scripture says about us!
WE fight, live, believe and act in the seat of his righteousness (victory)
WE view our circumstances in the seat of his righteousness (victory)
We speak to our past our present and our future in the righteousness of God.
I read a story somewhere on Emmitt Smith the great running back who holds the rushing record for the NFL. He shared a story of when he was 16 talking to his mom in their kitchen. He came home and told her that the coach thinks he could be an NFL player someday. She said what do you have to do… and he said well he told me it’s not so much what I have to do, but how I have to start thinking. He said even though I am only 16 He said I need to start believing I am an NFL player right now… and to start making decisions like an NFL player. He said would an NFL player hang out with gang bangers? Cheat on tests? Steal? slack off in practice? give a bad example to the other players? Emmitt goes on to say and that is what I did, I started thinking like an NFL player, making decisions like an NFL player… and you know what in just 5 years I was one.
So men, just start thinking like your are sinless, holy, righteous, pure, set apart, anointed… just like scripture says you are. Then start making decisions accordingly.
Todays Challenge: Take time to read the Gospels and put you as the main character. Where it says: Jesus healed the sick… I would read it “and Garth healed the sick”. Take a minute and really feel what it is like to be Jesus, to be sinless, righteous and holy…and then trust that you truly are- why? Because you are!

What if Joseph, when finding out Mary was pregnant decided to not marry her?
What if Zacheus didn’t climb that tree?
What if Moses didn’t answer the bush?
What if Nicodemus hadn’t snuck out at night to talked to Jesus?
What if the prostitute didn’t bust into the house and anoint Jesus feet with oil?
Monday Morning meanderings.
Ok, no reason to go all out for Jesus like a weirdo. Not like that one guy at church… he’s a little extreme. You know, you will go to church, go to mens bible study and even tithe… what more really could there be. You don’t have any super spiritual gift like healing, or miracles or prophetic words. You are like every one else. A simple job, a pretty ok life and maybe as you get older things will really get better! It just takes time… right?
And as you got older you believed this was the plan. Be a Christian, but be ok with the fact that you are not called to be an all out sold out on fire total Jesus freak… right? I mean that’s just not you…its not like your a pastor or evangelist… and still things are just ok.
You were even told by others things will pan out, things will feel more fulfilling in time. I mean others seem happy just being an average Christian (at least it seems that way… but who knows behind closed doors)
So here you are you have been sold a story of not having to completely commit to the radical Christian lifestyle… because really who do you think you are… that’s not you… right? And besides what would happen if you really did commit? If you really did read and pray every day for more than a few guilt pounding minutes. I mean seriously would anything happen if you began to share your faith? Read and share scripture, took risks praying for people outside the church… gave more, sacrificed more, served more, sought the voice of the Holy Spirit more? How crazy would it be to ask someone more in tune with the Holy Spirit to disciple you?
here is a secret … the ability to get more out of life is simply be more like Jesus, to experience more joy and more fruit in life then ever before is to forget what you have been telling yourself, forget what others have been telling you and actually try to be like Jesus. Weird right… you like Jesus?
The ability to do just enough is not an ability… its a liability.
You never get more by going only 75%.
You only get more by going all out.
Throw your mental limitations and mental road blocks to the gutter and simply choose to go all out.
You don’t know the bible well… step out anyway
God seems distant… step out anyway
You are not perfect… step out anyway
Your prayers don’t seem very effective… step out anyway
You are too busy…. step out anyway
You are all alone… step out anyway
Its uncomfortable… step out anyway
You are a new Christian… step out anyway
I tried it and it didn’t work… step out anyway
I will do it in a few months or years… Step out now anyway
The problem is we don’t understand the pain of regrets is always greater than the pain of stepping out.
Don’t look back at the end of your life and wonder what if.
Die with a thousands stories of you stepping out.
Or you could continue to believe the lie… you are not that guy. You are not that Godly, you are not that gifted, you do not have that much favor…
Tear down the yellow cautionary tape in front of you and start walking… take the steps. It will be worth it.
Todays challenge is to question every assumption you have concerning why YOU can’t be more like Jesus… and then step out anyway.
Men… it’s time you step out today and take this thing over!

Getting on a plane flyings from Atlanta to Minnesota. I went to get in my seat and I was one of the last ones on the plane… there was a guy in my seat. I told him he was in my seat and he said the flight attendant said he could sit there and I could sit in his seat… it seemed a little fishy… and then I figured it out… No way in in the world I was sitting in his seat…

Eph. 1:18 Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
Titus 3:7 So that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Here are the facts:
We inherited all that Christ has for us…
He died to pay the price - in full.
Before his death we had:
condemnation
sin
Unrighteousness
guilt
Sickness
Poverty
NOW:
No condemnation
Righteousness
holy Boldness
Healing
Abundance
I was praying for a woman today at the gym, and I spoke to her lower back and said “back you have to be healed because God paid the price and he always gets what he paid for”!
So what would you settle for?
Lets say you have purchased a beautiful gift for your kid. Lets say it is a brand new ATV 4 wheeler. He goes to pick it up and the guy says it’s free, its all yours. And your son says, well let me go get some money… It may take a while. You find out that he never got it because he feels like he needs to pay for it, or worse yet he feels like he doesn’t deserve it, or even worse the guy at the shop convinces him that he actually only gets to use it if he is perfect.
Oh, the tricks satan plays on us when it comes to what God paid for and what is our inheritance.
