Belief
Be - it is, it is real
Lief - willingly, to live
You believe in God, but the real question is "do you believe God". Belief is action!
When we believe God, it changes who we are, what we believe and what we do. Danny Dodge.
What do I believe?
I think sometimes we don’t want to share Christ because we really don’t know what we believe.
We don’t know how to navigate our christian walk because we don’t know what to believe.
Is sickness from God?
Does God want us all rich?
Are miracles still for today?
Do only certain people get the full power of God in their lives?
What should I believe?
Jesus challenged religious authority!
Mark 11 Jesus challenges the religious leaders.
I think you should challenge your religious mindsets and preconceived ideas.
A lot of my catholic friends have told me they don’t have to read their bible…
We had a man come to our church years ago when I was just a snot nosed teenager. He preached that sunday that his ministry needed $100,000 for his ministry to do what God had called his ministry to do. He said “we already have $10,000 and only need 90k more.” And then he said I believe there are 90 people here today that God is calling to give $1000… and if you do I believe God will bless you a hundred fold…. we went to lunch after church and I asked him about it… and he assured me he absolutely believed that. So I said then why don’t you just give our church your $10K and God will bless you a hundred fold… You guessed it, he couldn’t answer me.
Mark 12 Jesus challenges secular authority.
Are you willing to believe God even if it flys in the face of the secular mindset?
love at all costs
pro life, what about rape, what about teenage mothers what about…
Sex before marriage is wrong
Homosexuality is a sin
DO YOUR BELIEFS CHALLENGE SECULAR AUTHORITY? IF NOT… YOU MAY WANT TO DO A BELIFE CHECK!
Matthew 16:24 Jesus challenges your authority… pick up your cross and daily follow me.
It’s easy to believe what works for us… but when it just doesn’t exactly fit our narrative… well it’s easy to fudge on our beliefs.
I belive in the word of God… Do you tithe? Well, uh, um see right now I uh…
Help me believe?
Mark 9:23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
And then what does Jesus do? He helps the mans unbelief by casting out the demon and healing his son.
So you have trouble believing certain things in Gods word… Ask God to help you to believe.
God didn’t tell this guy “just believe”. Nope he honored his honesty and showed him why he could believe.
What is an area in your life you need help believing? Then ask God to help you believe! and watch what he does!
Years ago there was a cute Christian t shirt going around. It said “God said it, I believe it, that settles it”.
But the truth is, God said it, that settles it. Wether or not we believe it doesn’t matter. But it does make life easier if we do actually believe it.

We did a Q and A with our Friday night guest the one time enforcer for a 1% motorcycle gang…
I guarantee you will remember todays podcast!
It’s based off of Col. 3:23, 24
It starts with a question… A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION
If all you got out of your relationship with Jesus…
and by that I mean you did not get healing, prosperity, wisdom, a happy marriage, you didn’t get any ministry gifts, you didn’t get any notoriety, fame, you got no special sauce…
BUT IF ALL YOU GOT OUT OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS WAS JUST SIMPLY A RELATIONSHIP… WOULD YOU STILL FOLLOW HIM?
This is Garth Heckman at the David alliance…

Hey you… yeah you… you want to start something?
How to start something
*Your mindset should start with what can I learn… not what I can get out of it (money, fame, position etc…)
If this is your mindset you will always win even if you fail.
*Know that there are WAVES in the starting and its just like quitting.
You muscle up and do 3 days in a row of starting something (business, exercise plan, working on your book)
You will hit a wall, but if you keep doing it, you will go 9 more days… and then you will hit a wall…. but if you keep doing it you will hit another wall in 21 days…. but if you keep doing it you will hit a wall at 30 days (this is 63 days in the wave) At that point keeping at it is easier and easier as long as you keep goals pushing you. Without goals, even after 63 days you can just drop out.
You can have discipline, but goals are the oil that keeps it going.
*Don’t try to write out a master plan… just start. I think everyone gets excited writing out the master plan… oh yea! but when things don’t go as planned we lose energy and excitement… because it’s not going as planned. DuH! So don’t write out a master plan, just start and keep going… the DNA is wet so just let it grow on it’s own. Honestly… TDA had a master plan written behind it… and none of it went as planned… so at one point we just said “lets just roll and see what happens… and we are starting to gel”.
*Start one thing… and stick to one thing. Don’t let your thing grow into things. I started a company called BWP. After a few years it really took off and was a huge success… we won some national awards, traveling all over North America but then we started to branch out, do t shirts, curriculum, develop new fields of interest, retreats, day camps etc… we got away from what we were originally about… and it wore us out.
*You don’t have to start a big thing… look we all have dreams of
becoming famous, making millions, living the dream… But the reality is if starting something new - we only made a difference in more peoples lives, live out more of our potential and learned some stuff… it’s all worth it. A great life starts with great stories… great stories start out with trying new things and taking chances… Just start!
*TDA conference is going to be only the first stage of what we do… I don’t know what will change next time, but I am starting.
I want cool music, I want knife throwing, I want great practical speakers that talk on all topics… And things started falling into place as we started planning.
AND NEXT YEAR IT WILL BE EVEN MORE DIFFERENT AND BETTER!
And what else will the TDA be doing? I am not sure but it will make men better more complete followers of Jesus…. and it will always be real, Jesus centered and somewhat on the edge.
*The beauty of starting something is not knowing where it will end up. Don’t confuse this point with what we talked about a few minutes ago… Your start may evolve or pivot into something new… that’s ok, but don’t let it turn into a 100 other things!
You probably love Odeo and don’t even know it
(it’s now twitter, but it started as network for finding podcasts)
Or the Point a fundraising website that is now Groupon
AND I know you love Burbn… which is now Instagram.
Tote is now Pinterest
Suzuki is now… well Suzuki but they used to make sewing machines.
You may start a diet plan only to fall in love with volleyball… and become a coach and change kids lives
You may start a diet only to fall in love with cooking… and start a restaurant
You may start a book only to write a childrens books and become an editor for kids cartoons
You invent a new exercise widget and sell it for millions and invest that into ministries that save kids from sex trafficking.
I have been working on an app for 3 years and we are just about to launch it this year… It will compete with Craigslist, eBay, offer up, let go etc… I have no idea where it will end up… what it will ultimately become, but after a huge round of capital and investors and time -wether it grows or blows… I started! what are you going to do!
Plant all your seeds
Ecclesiastes 11:
1 Ship your grain across the sea;
after many days you may receive a return.
2
Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;
you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.
3
If clouds are full of water,
they pour rain on the earth.
Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
4
Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.
5
As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed[a] in a mother’s womb,
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.
6
Sow your seed in the morning,
and at evening let your hands not be idle,
for you do not know which will succeed,
whether this or that,
or whether both will do equally well.

Conversation in the gym yesterday… basically came down to this. A guy wanted to make a movie. He wanted investors… My advice to him was this is a giant step to take… you need to fail more before taking it on.
He had never started a business / let alone failed
He had never wrote a book / to have it rejected a 100 times
He had never knocked on doors selling things to be denied 1000 x’s
He had never created a widget to have it never sell
He had never spent years in the minor leagues failing to make it out
He had never written a song to have it mocked
He had never painted a picture to have it never purchased
The point is… I told him was that the joy is from going from Plan A to plan B, C, D, E, F…
Building resilience and understanding God uses plans BCDEFG etc… more then he uses Plan A’s.
Plan B? Try Plan CDEFG
Jochebed… put my son in the river in a basket for the Kings daughter to have?
Moses kicked out of Egypt/flees
40 years as a shepherd in the desert
The greatest leader in all of scripture next to Jesus.
Joseph… youngest brother of 10
Hated by his brothers
Sold into slavery
Falsely accused
Forgotten in Jail
Second in command of the then known free world
David youngest of 7 brothers
Forgotten and looked down on by Dad
Shepherd
Faces Goliath
Runs from King Saul to keep from being killed
Becomes King
Do you see a pattern here?
How about Peter
Not smart enough to be chosen by a Pharisee to study under
Goes into fishing
Strong back weak mind
Picked by Jesus to be his disciple
Reprimanded by Jesus- get behind me satan
Denies Jesus
Runs away
Goes back to fishing
Becomes one of the greatest leaders in the early church
Its when plan A doesn’t work that you learn the most important things in life. Its where you are made. The failing at plan A is so mandatory for future and greater success that you must learn to enjoy it, look for it, expect it and even thank God for it.
A seed must die to bear fruit
Plan A must fail to bear fruit
What now?
Ask God what you need to learn
Ask God who to learn from next
Ask God for his next direction

The TDA conference will be practical!
We now have listeners in the US, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Africa, Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Japan, Russia, Lebanon, Netherlands, Malaysia, Mexico, Belgium, Israel, Spain, Colombia, Benin, New Zealand
Going into Monday… Uhhggg!
I hate my job.
We spend 1/3 of our lives at work.
Can you pay your bills?
NO: Get another job, work up your resume, take some courses, get another smaller degree, go and get a skill in the trades that pays better. have a side job selling stuff on line or a specialty part time job, sell vitamins, water purifiers, do teaching, speaking, crafting, painting, editing… something. I have heard of a woman who paints footballs for parents who are looking for great gifts for kids. She paints the team colors, logos and names of the kids etc… and makes a killing and it is not even her real job… and get this - its all word of mouth. She is not a social media hog.
Yes: Take your time getting another job.
Realize your job is just a way to pay your bills. The real fun comes from realizing that regardless of your job and how much you like it or hate it you are called to influence people through your spiritual gifts.
It’s not about money it’s about influence. If you can have a spiritual influence in your job somehow, it makes the biggest difference in the world. So if you hate your job and make great money, don’t just go after a better job and better money, go after a job where you can be an influence for Christ… Again this doesn’t mean you are looking for a job where people won’t mind if you get up in the cafeteria and preach… no! But you get what I mean… The last secular job I interviewed for I asked my soon to be boss if she would get upset if I during my time at worked talking about Jesus. She said, no if you get your work done and if you respect other peoples issues… i.e. if they don’t want to talk about it- don’t push it. (about a year later we were at a restaurant eating and I was talking to a waitress and praying for her and some disease she just found out she had… my boss said “I remember when you asked me about this at work… but I had no idea you were this passionate about this”.
Why do you hate your job?
3 major reasons:
1- The people, (people don’t leave jobs, they leave boss’s)
You won’t be able to change your people at the place you work… Remember when people complain at work it doesn’t change anything it just makes them more bitter and the work place more negative. So don’t be negative!
2- lack of using your core gifting or skill. (by the way most men have hobbies that use their gifting if they don’t use them at work)
Have you tried asking your boss, or superior if you can somehow use some of your gifting at your job…
If not I would highly recommend you finding a job where you use your gifitng’s and talents.
-3 We will get to that in a few seconds.
Why don’t you change? Money and pain.
You are making great money… is it worth it? Maybe it is, typically it is not…
But you may just be tricked into addiction to money over health (health physically, mentally, spiritually, relationally)
*you don’t want to be that guy who at the end of his life has a lot of money at the expense of being used by God or at the expense of your physical health, relational health etc…)
Why don’t you change #2 pain
You are used to the pain and it beats the pain of the unknown.
But what if….???
If you feel like God is moving on you to try to find a new job, trust him and know he has a reason and he will make it known to you and will guide you, lead you and he has great plans for you. But you gotta be willing to trust him and have faith to move beyond the pain of the unknown.
Finally:
REASON #3 WHY YOU HATE YOUR JOB
You let it define you.
How long are you in a conversation with another man and you ask “what do you do”. You know where that comes from? Genesis 3, from the curse!
Check this out, before the sin in the garden adam and eve worked the garden and multiplied… it was a joy, it was a calling it was what they were meant to do because it was for God…. but then sin entered.
Our jobs are cursed.
You shall work the ground and never be fulfilled… Zey-ahh
It will never be enough… that’s our curse.
Your fulfillment comes from Jesus, not your job….
Yes you want a fun job, challenging job, good paying job-but it still won’t fulfill you. Only God can.
You honestly can have a crappy job (hopefully it pays the bills) and choose to use your spiritual gifts in your job and be fulfilled. and I have seen many men pray for new jobs that allow them to use their spiritual gifts and God grants them their request, because to God that is more important.
A few years ago I worked for a moving company to make some extra money. The job was brutal, but I loved it for a few reasons. I got to share Christ with my co workers non stop. I got to pray for people moving… moving away? I would pray for grace, driving protection etc… for the families. Moving into a new house? I would pray for a blessing and for God to show up in this new chapter of life. You would think that My boss would be mad… just the opposite, he would get referrals like crazy asking for the guy who prays over the people and the house!
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

48 hours to get people to church!
3 simple ways to better communication: In marriage and life!
- Don’t fight - once you fight its not about communication its about winning. And you can end up getting pretty dirty when it’s simply about winning.
If you feel like you are starting to fight… slow down, take a break, go for a walk.
No one gets into the Octagon and after they yell “fight” do they try to talk it out… its to late.
so you must first and foremost protect yourselves from getting into the fight mode.
2. Use story pictures. When you tell a story people listen. When you want your spouse to know you understand tell her a story of how you think she feels from your past.
i.e. She tells you, you never listen to me… and you say, “I am sorry I will start to do better”.
She says “you always say that”.
You say you know what this reminds me of when I told my Dad all I wanted for Christmas was a new baseball glove, I must have told him a hundred times. On Christmas day I was so excited to open up my new glove… It was ski gloves, actually mittens, and he blew it off and was like “all I could remember was gloves, you should be happy with that”… blah blah blah. And I felt like my Dad didn’t really care at all about me.
Stories help you feel the other persons side better.
3. Feel the person before you try to fix or fight off the person. Tap into how you once felt like them.
I many times have women in my office tell their husbands about times they were harassed or picked on in school… I ask the men what would you do to those people today if they made your wife feel that way? They say some pretty aggressive things… but then I ask them, how do you feel knowing you are making your wife feel like that right now?
When you feel what the other person feels you lose the angst or the edge to the discussion. Now you just don’t want them to feel like that and the “argument isn’t as important as you thought it was.
are there more ways and ideas to better communicate? Yes, but I think these are crucial for most men. Tell your wives, girlfriends boss employees etc… about them and start to practice them.

How was your weekend? I and my dog were attacked by a pit bull mutt dog.
After all, Brown bucked the odds and made it out of the Miami surbanscape -- where he was born and raised -- going on to become a star receiver at Central Michigan. From there, he was forced to again prove himself after being selected with the No. 195 overall pick -- the 22nd of 27 wide receivers in his draft class -- by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and was viewed by many as undersized at the position. He'd buck the odds yet again, though, going on to dominate at the NFL level. Brown delivered an eye-popping 8,210 receiving yards and 50 touchdowns from 2011 through 2016. He landed a four-year, $68 million in February 2017 for his efforts.
He'd go on to add another 1,533 receiving yards and nine touchdowns to his resume in 2017, but the air around him that once smelled fragrant was rapidly souring -- deteriorating to the point where the usually forgiving and player-centric Steelers began to notice a tinge of mustard gas. Fast forward a bit to the 2018 season, and despite hitting the 10,000-yard mark for his career, headlines surrounding Brown were about anything but that achievement. It's now September 2019 and Brown's NFL legacy currently reads as the polar opposite of the once inspirational story it was, but more like a cautionary tale for all who would heed it.
It was supposed to be a grand time in the city of Pittsburgh after Brown caught six passes for 108 yards to help push the Steelers past the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round in an 18-16 nailbiter. Instead, the story became what happened next in the locker room following the win. Brown pulled out his phone and live-streamed the locker room celebration on Facebook -- in violation of league policy. This was also done in spite of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger asking Brown to lay low a bit on social media, and his decision to do the opposite
A heated dispute with a Roethlisberger during a Wednesday walkthrough escalated to the point where Brown threw a football at the QB, and the wideout opted to then skip the remaining practices leading up to the team's Week 17 battle with the Cincinnati Bengals.

AB is accused of sexual assault and rape, allegations he denies
Sept. 16: Taylor meets with the NFL. A source previously had told ESPN there are "more interviews and information-gathering being conducted now beyond Taylor."
In addition to the Taylor lawsuit, Brown faces another allegation of sexual misconduct by a female artist who was working at his Western Pennsylvania home in 2017. That allegation was part of a Sports Illustrated report published Monday that detailed domestic incidents involving Brown, a charity auction theft and multiple unpaid debts.
Yesterday he tweets he will no longer be playing in the NFL.
So AB, rather than confess, deal with your issues and learn and grow and move forward you are just going to pout and quit.
PERFECT… I BELIEVE WE COVERED THIS ALL LAST WEEK, BLAME EVERYONE ELSE SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO CHANGE.
Prov. 28:13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
By not dealing with your sin you limit your growth
(You can’t grow unless you admit and are open to areas in your life you need to grow)
James 5;16 Therefore confess your sins one to another so that you may be healed. (healed not only physically but spiritually)
You limit your blessing - 2 Chron. 7:14 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
You limit your influence
1 Timothy 4:12 Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
Young (acting young and foolish)
Despise (blow you off)
You limit your witness
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
MGLG - make God look good… not make Garth look good.
Your job is to glorify God in all you do!
Refusing to deal with your sin may make you look good for a while, but it makes God look bad… but trust me in time the tables with turn…. FOR GOD SHALL NOT BE MOCKED!
