Today is less of a TDA and more of a public service announcement.
Look we are going into an election year. We just had Trump here in Minnesota and it was ugly.
I am not pushing any candidate here- What I am pushing is the obvious fact that people are hurt, broken and in need of Jesus and having your own personal pick for president doesn’t solve any problems.
And before you think I am talking just about the crazies out there who beat up, spit on, struck, kicked, screamed and vandalized people, cars and store fronts…
I am also talking to many of the Christian right wing overly religious who hate those same people back but excuse it because they don’t use violence. (remember yesterdays podcast… Jesus says hate is the same as murder)
So if you are one of the many pious staunch republican right wing Christians… check your heart. You only have to love the people that Christ died for.
Here is a reality check- The president, any president does not have the power to change a persons heart, forgive sin or erase years of abuse, hatred and anger.
what our country needs is Jesus and it needs to come through us as men who Love God first, then family and then country. If you cannot love those who hate you - what good are you? What good is your Christian walk? I am challenging you to be in your community and to serve in areas where there may be people you disagree with and even find it hard to be around… and ask God to use you.
Lets be honest… this change should not come from our wives or the women of the church… it should not come from the younger generation be it middle school up to college. It must come from a wave of Godly men who take time to pray up daily, and go out and love the haters in order to break the bondage satan has got this world under. WE NEED TO BE THE EXAMPLE!
If our country, if our world is to change it has to be us. I have never been more convinced.
This is one of the reasons I am excited to speak not only to churches and mens groups around the country, but at our conference coming up. I am taking us back to the basics of what men did in the bible to take a stand and turn their world upside down… it will be a complete and thorough understanding of the New Testament example.
But until then, love the sinner, pray for the sinner, pray for the power of God to be evident in your life, smile, laugh, listen and remember, wherever you go, you shift the atmosphere due to the power of God in you. Believe it, live it, share it!

Have you ever realized that the ten commandments would have been easier to follow than Christ commands.
Here are a few… From Matthew 5
If someone wants your shirt give them your coat as well
If someone demands you to carry their load 1 mile, carry it 2 miles
Jesus said if you even lust after a woman you have committed adultery.
He says if you are angry at your brother you are guilty of murder.
Matthew 5:48
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
William J. Bennett said…
"Give yourself an even greater challenge than the one you are trying to master
and you will develop the powers necessary to overcome the original difficulty.”
I think this is maybe what God is trying to do in a larger supernatural way in us. Look we could keep the 10 commandments… but the mind thing? Lust, Hate, perfection… that is a whole new level. That is beyond the scope of what we can do on our own. I can keep the commands… I can’t be perfect in everything.
You’re heard the saying…
TO BE TESTED IS GOOD. THE CHALLENGED LIFE IS THE BEST THERAPIST.
Well this is the perfect recipe for making Jesus our therapist. We walk in a world where we are tested and challenged in every possible way. If we are to be perfect as Christ is perfect, then by the cause and effect of life we need to rely on Jesus more than ever.
I saw a sign once that read
If you like challenges, working through impossibilities, difficulties, problems, and you don’t like things that come easy, then not only will you love life but you will be incredibly successful in it!
That just about sums up the Christian walk.
The world is filled with impossibilities, it’s filled with difficulties, Its filled with problems, and it is almost never easy… so if we are called to be perfect… WELL THEN WE WILL HAVE TO BE DEPENDENT ON CHRIST.
The word perfect in this verse truly means “be completely dependent on Christ”… lack nothing through your reliance on him.
So my wife is a high maintenance wife… and I am glad. I have seen low maintenance wives and I am not a fan. But she is beautiful, truly. Blonde hair, great figure, and she looks 20 years younger then me. you will almost never catch her not looking great… how does she do it? She is always checking her makeup (not in an arrogant or insecure way) but if we are going to go to the store, she will check her lipstick, make up hair walking out the door in the mirror in the hallway and then we bounce. If we are about to get up from eating out, she will pull out a little mirror and look to see if her lips are filled in? If we come in from outside she will stop right inside the door and take a quick glance in the bathroom mirror and take time to brush her hair. Its wonderful having a wife who is always trying to look her best… for me. Yea thats it… she tries to look her best for me.
Our walk with Christ is actually supposed to look pretty close to this. Every thing I am involved in or doing or about to do I should be checking my reflection in Christ. Im at work, so I stop and ask God am I being completely dependent on you in my job, with my boss, with my co-workers. Am I being completely dependent on God with my family, wife, kids, parents… am I his reflection of perfection.

If you want to kill an hour or 2 just go to youtube and watch Dog rescues. I smile, cry and am completely just amazed. But what strikes me is when a dog is so aggressive and mean and trying to attack the people who are wanting to help it…
And what happens… in just a short week or even a few days the dog is loving, caring, playing with kids and even other dogs.
what is the secret? They love the dog and give him all the space he needs. They force nothing on the dog. They never force teaching on an unwilling dog. They wait for the dog to come to them for attention. They do not react when bitten or when the dog lashes out at them. They never raise their voice and they never rush the process.
I actually have a police officer in my church who trains dogs. He will come to church quite often with bite marks on his hands and arms. He will tell you he never reacts to the dogs. As much as it hurts, as much as the instinct is to strike a dog or yell… he just doesn’t do it. He teaches the dog to trust him by allowing the dog to act out, while he only responds in love.
Do you want a great lesson in sharing Christ?
I will re-read what I just said in regards to sharing Christ…
Someone may be mean or aggressive, they may lash out at you, trying to hurt you, and even biting your reputation or even physical harm. But you don’t lash out, you do not react, you only continue to love.
You share Christ with the lost and give them space to think and react… never forcing anything on them.
You never raise your voice or try to force teaching on them they are not ready for… you just keep loving them.
They never give up and they never rush the process… for some to come to Christ it may take years, maybe even decades.
We have somehow thought it ok to hate the sinner and the sin. And even when we say we are trying to reach the sinner it comes at a price of watered down love. Until you can fully love the sinner, and engage them because you love them… you are a part of the problem.
I have had many people in my life that I do not agree with… not their lifestyle, not their choices, not their philosophy or outlook on life. Not their religion or lack there of… but my job is to love them anyway. And you know what is crazy… it bamboozles them. They can’t take it when you love them back no matter what.
Luke 23 Jesus is beaten, whipped, mocked, insulted, spit on, and hung on a cross and never lashes out at anyone… and the centurion who was guarding Jesus at the foot of the cross watching everything says “surely this is the son of God”.
Can you imagine the centurion looking up at Jesus on the cross and jesus looking back at him with only love in his eyes.
Romans 2:4 Says its Gods kindness that leads us to repentance.
Am I saying you can’t take a stand against sin and unrighteousness? NO, but take a stand in love.
Think of the people who came to Christ,
Nicodemus the pharisee - uber religious and pious
Zacheus the tax collector
The woman at the well, despised and multiple husbands
The prostitute who came and anointed Christ feet
The centurion who approached Jesus to heal his servant
All of these people had strong polarizing sinful personalities… and yet…
*All of them had experienced at some level the love that Jesus had for them in order to feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable and step out of “who they were expected to be” AND WHO THEY EVEN THOUGHT THEY WERE - and be open to who Christ said he was and what that meant to each of them.
One of many stories I could tell you, but one in particular. When I lived in Seattle I taught guitar lessons at Musicians Friend. I talked to all the sales people there and all the other teachers etc… when I told them I was quitting and had to move to Minnesota they threw me a little party after work one night. One of the drum instructors named Scott (completely bald except one long braided ponytail, tats everywhere and very very very worLdy) He asks if he could talk to me alone. He went on to tell me that when I got there he hated me…I was religious, and close minded and hated people who weren’t religious like me… and then he stopped and said “well, thats the narrative I created in my head”. But you kept blowing my mind by NOT being that guy. You would let me talk about anything and never get mad at me or preach at me. You never talked down to me… and then he ended saying this “you are the first christian I have met who is not an A hole and I am going to miss you”.
I hope Scott ultimately came to Christ… I don’t know. But I know this - Love wins if given enough time. And it always works better then hate, arrogance, spiritual pride and a pompous religious air about yourself.
Why not expect to be hated like Jesus said in John 15, and make it a game and love them anyway so you blow their minds… and show them what Jesus is like.

You are a creator not a competitor in life.
Too many men run the race of competing against other men, against the world, against the ladder of success… you will never win that race because you are not in that race.
You are in the role of a creator not a competitor.
A creator realizes that their life is to be uniquely them. They will find happiness in detailing their life in the exact way God has called them too.
If you have ever been to a high end car show you will see hundreds of cars and millions of dollars spent. Each car is detailed differently and uniquely in its own way as seen by the owner/creator. There are cars I personally don’t like the color, the interior, the choice of engine and chrome additions, the body modifications, the wheel size or Rims… etc… but the owner loves it and revels in it. He created it just for him. Wouldn’t it be stupid to have a car show with all the same cars, colors etc…
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Workmanship = masterpiece
God of the all… the source of all creativity, made us all unique and gifted and talented in different ways… if you doubt me go try to find the person who has your finger print.
But what does that tell us? That tells us that in our God given DNA we are creators like God… no we can’t create something out of nothing, but with what God has given us (his spirit, his word, his wisdom) we can manifest great things - the things we are supposed to have in our own unique life.
maybe you have heard this story but it is worth reaching again.
An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.
The Mexican replied, “only a little while. The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?”
The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life.” The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”
The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”
To which the American replied, “15 – 20 years.”
“But what then?” Asked the Mexican.
The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!”
“Millions – then what?”
The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”
YOu may in fact be that guy competing for more, when what you really want will be created by your own individualism in God. How does God want you to create your life? Its a good question… and the answer doesn’t have a hint of competition in it.

How was your Sunday? Ours was on fire!
Your God is too small
In New Mexico at 1am looking into the stars late at night realizing there are stars out there in other galaxies that are bigger than our galaxy.
traveling to the Grand Canyon and seeing just how amazing it is, beyond the scope of comprehension. Do you know you could fit the entire world population in the grand canyon and still have room for more! You can experience 5 of the 7 world climates in the grand canyon all on the same day depending on where you are at in the canyon.
Studying the human body and understanding that the complexity of just the hand is beyond anything we have ever seen… and again understanding that it could not have possibly evolved - again astounding.
"What are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care
for them?" (Psalm 8:4).
In the words of Dr. Larry Bethune
We are small. We are infinitesimal. Our
minds are too primitive to comprehend the majesty of God. Our hearts are too
small to contain the love of God. Our lives are too short to search out the
works of God. Yet! God cares for us.
So I am asking…
How big is your God?… I am guessing way to small. Sometimes it is hard to trust God only because we do not see how big he is, how majestic he is, how truly awesome he is. We dismiss his power by lack of familiarity, we overlook his wisdom because we are accustomed to mans wisdom… and god calls mans wisdom foolishness. We worship him at a fraction of what he is worth because we don’t understand the power that he holds in just a spoken word.
How big is your God?
He created everything…
He made out of nothing everything
There was nothing before him… and he out of himself made ALL!
You know why he loves us? He is love, yes it’s his nature… but also because he created us in perfection. You have to love perfection.
The most amazing thing to meditate on is who God is and the fact that he loves us. As that is revealed to you - it will revolutionize your walk with God.

Don’t worry be peaceful.
Phil. 4:6
NIV Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
NLT Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
….This does not say Don’t worry over the little stuff, don’t sweat the small stuff… but if it’s cancer, if you are in trouble with the IRS… if your marriage is on the rocks… well good luck. NOPE he says don’t worry about anything.
Don’t worry, don’t fret, Don’t question, Don’t doubt, Don’t hesitate, Don’t get anxious, Don’t get nervous… Get the picture!
But instead in every situation…
Money problems
Family problems
health problems
job problems
People problems
Calendar problems
unanswered questions
too many options
Crushed for time
But in everything present your requests (any request) to the Lord with thanksgiving…
with joy
with expectation
with faith
with gratitude
with confidence
What does this do? verse 7
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
The peace that will go beyond what you can understand… because you came to God with complete faith. You had an issue, you came to God with thanksgiving (faith mindset) you expect his work on your behalf and now you can rest and have peace over it.
You lose your job, you still get up in the morning and say ok God, I work for you and you are my source. I need the job you have for me, so I thank you in advance for that job, a job that has better hours, better pay and uses my gifting. Thanks for the job.
Your marriage is on the rocks. You say ok God we made a covenant before you. I need your help to honor that and I need your grace in my marriage. Help me be a better husband and help me love my wife. Thank you for a great and Godly marriage.
These prayers push fear out of your life and bring Gods peace… Have you ever gone to a movie… but someone tipped you off. They say “its an awesome movie… you are going to think you hate it, but the ending is perfect so just relax”. So you go to the movie and while everyone else in the theatre is biting their nails you can relax because you know that all will end with Winnie the Pooh… or Rambo, your choice.
When you pray you act on the same premise. I can relax now, because I know everything will be just fine and you experience that mystic peace that is just completely undefinable.
TRY IT! YOU’LL LIKE IT.

On November 20, 1988, the Los Angeles Times reported:
A screaming woman, trapped in a car dangling from a
freeway transition road in East Los Angeles was rescued
Saturday morning. The 19-year-old woman apparently fell.
asleep behind the wheel about 12:15 A.M.The car, which
plunged through a guard rail was left dangling by its left
rear wheel.A half dozen passing motorists stopped, grabbed
some ropes from one of their vehicles, tied the ropes to the
back of the woman's car, and hung on until the fire units
arrived.A ladder was extended from below to help stabilize
the car while firefighters tied the vehicle to tow trucks with
cables and chains.
"Every time we would move the car,"said one of the res-
cuers,"she'd yell and scream. Everyone thought she was in pain."
It took almost 2 1/2 hours for the passers-by,CHP officers,
tow truck drivers, and firefighters-about 25 people in all
-to secure the car and pull the woman to safety.
"It was kinda funny,”L.A.County Fire Capt.Ross
Marshall recalled later."She kept saying,'I'll do it myself.'"
There are times when self-sufficiency goes too far.
(Self-sufficiency,Help)
1 Cor. 12:12-31 We are all one body and we all belong and we all need each other!
So you don’t go to church regularly.
So you don’t really get involved at church regularly.
So you don’t need others.
There was a time I would have never believed you if you told me that… but here is the truth- you may not need the church, but the church needs you. It needs your personality, giftings, your spiritual insight, your influence…
Ok, now that I said that I also truly believe you do need the church… otherwise why would God have instructed us to go and continually meet together and read, pray, take communion and do it regularly.
The truth is as men we don’t want to NEED somebody, we don’t want to admit we can’t do it ourselves…
SO here is a thought, if you are actually killing it in a certain area of life and you are truly doing it on your own and by your own self discipline and mastery… maybe you are seeing such great success because it has no eternal value. I think satan is just fine with us being successful as long as it doesn’t affect people for Christ eternally.
And if you are going to do something that has eternal value and is for Christ… well you will recognize early on- you do need others for many reasons. You will also realize that you will be under attack. Because God created us to need one another, he created us as a body.
You need people and people need you. Don’t miss this simple yet profound principle in life. It is truly the secret sauce.
One final key component to your fit in life and the body of Christ… if you are a father you are setting the example to your kids as to wether or not the body of Christ has value. YOU MUST REALIZE THIS AND THE IMPORTANCE YOU HAVE IN THEIR LIFE. it is imperative that your family sees the beauty and value of the bride of Christ… don’t miss your opportunity, don’t miss this opportunity!
Alex Haley Roots
In his office he has a picture of a turtle on top of a fence post. One thing is for sure, if you see a turtle on a fence post you know he had some help. We don’t get to where we are on our own. We must be willing to understand that we need others.

Influence!
There is a lot out there on influence, but if you read between the lines its really just fancy talk for manipulation.
Godly Influence has no manipulation in it at all.
As high schoolers growing up we did this stupid game where we would be in an environment and such as a camp and we would see if we could get the camp to pick up on a certain word. So one year my friends and I on the bus to camp decided that this week we wanted everyone to start saying “Triple Z to the Max”. It really meant nothing to us, but we knew we could make it sound really cool. So as soon as we hit the ground everyone in our circle of influence would comment positively with the standard “Triple Z to the max”. It didn’t take more than 3 days and everyone in the camp started saying it…
Influence.
We all like the power of telling people what to do… but they don’t always take it well. However we can tell them what to do through influence.
We can have a huge impact on people simply by choosing to influence them subtly rather than with an in your face attitude.
Think about the people who have had the biggest impact on your life… was it something they said? Probably not… it was probably just simply their influence on you over time.
How do you influence those around you for the good?
Here are my top 3
- Have rock solid spiritual virtues in which you live by. If you are always changing your values by which you live by people will disregard your influence. Flaky people do not influence.
*I would bet you have at times thought to yourself “what would so and so do in this situation?”. That so and so was most likely a person of solid spiritual virtues. For you to ask that question they must have earned the right in your life to be an influence. They earned it by living a life of character and integrity.
2. Take time to get to know people. Find out peoples stories and share with them yours. You very rarely get a chance to influence someone you do not know. The more you know someone the more you may influence them. But here is the best part of this… the more you get to know someone the more you begin to really care and love them. That is when you have your greatest influence on them.
Its cliche but “people don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care”.
My secret weapon for influencing people… is simply caring for them.
3. Seek to influence the least of these.
in Psalm 72
Solomon asks God for everything… money, fame, fortune, wisdom, influence…
But why? so that he can serve the widow and orphan.
Sure we want to influence the powerful, the popular and the political… but when you want to influence the least of these… now you have got Gods attention.
I was filling up my car one night late and walked into the gas station and the young girl at the cash register seemed down. And all of a sudden God gave me a word for her. I told her she was mad at her Dad, she blamed him for her problems and in fact she needed to repent and give her heart back to God. Then God told me her Dad was a pastor in our city and that still loved her and wanted to have a relationship with her.
That same girl came up to me about a year later at a Christian concert… I would not have remembered her other then she reminded me of that night. She said “God used that to turn her around and come back to God”. She hugged me and then disappeared back into the crowd. I think many times we don’t realize how many people we do and how many people we can influence simply by asking God to use us in the least of these.

Rise!
Justin Hawley a friend on Facebook will post all kinds of cool stories of people going against the grain in life and taking a stand. And every time he posts one of these he titles it “Rise”.
I like that, it makes me realize that we need to stand out as followers of Christ.
So lets talk about dead things…
John 11 Rise! Lazarus
V. 23 Your brother will rise again!
40 Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” 41 So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. 42 You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” 43 Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”
45 Many of the people who were with Mary believed in Jesus when they saw this happen.
Luke 7:Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son
11 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12 As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
14 Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 They were all filled with awe and praised God. “A great prophet has appeared among us,” they said. “God has come to help his people.” 17 This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.
Jarius daughter
Jesus arrived at the house to find mourners wailing outside. When he said she was not dead but sleeping, they laughed at him. Jesus went in, took her by the hand and said, "My child, get up." Her spirit returned and she raised up to life again. Jesus ordered her parents to give her something to eat but not to tell anyone what had happened.
Acts 9:36 Peter raises Tabitha and many people believed
People notice dead things… but they really notice dead things when they come back to life.
Whats dead in your life?
Marriage?
Job?
Finances?
Health?
Family Relationship?
A goal, or dream?
What if I told you Gods ok when our stuff dies… Because he wants to take credit for when it comes back to life.
Every one if these stories is about people recognizing Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
I think many times satan tricks us into thinking that when something dies… well it must not have been a God thing.
Did you notice that in all these stories words were spoken to that which was dead. The words were basically “Rise”.
Isaiah 60 is where we get the traditional childrens song, Rise and shine and give God the glory glory!
Well lets start practicing that today as men. What ever is dead, call it out in faith and tell it to rise.

Obey
Neil Marten, a member of the British Parliament, was once giving a group of his constituents a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament. During the course of the visit, the group happened to meet Lord Hailsham, then lord chancellor, wearing all the regalia of his office. Hailsham recognized Marten among the group and cried, "Neil!" Not daring to question or disobey the "command," the entire band of visitors promptly fell to their knees!
When in doubt…obey!
- “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22
- “Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.'” John 14:23
- “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:17
- “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24
Obedience is not an option
obedience is not half way
obedience is not when it feels good
And obedience is best exemplified when you don’t want to
Here and there in these dusty stacks, one can find an occasional recording
by the great blues master Jimmy Reed. A share-cropper's son, Reed brought
the throbbing harmonica-and-guitar-driven black rhythm-and-blues of the
Mississippi Delta into the popular rock-and-roll mainstream.
The Holy spirit is continually whispering in our ears the directions for life… are you listening? Are you obeying?
The number one sign of a disciple is OBEDIENCE. You can measure a persons depth of Discipleship by his depth of obedience.
You can’t measure it by church attendance
You can’t measure it by bible memorization
You can’t measure it by how many commandments you keep
You can’t measure it by how many ministries you serve in
You can’t measure it by giving
You can’t measure it by your knowledge of theology
You measure it by obedience to Gods word and his Holy Spirit.
When you seek to hear and know the voice of God and to obey it… you see it in a persons life between their spouse, boss, kids, pastor etc… Obedience to the Holy Spirit bleeds into every area of our life.
