Dan. 3:6 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter.
17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
If you don’t worship the worlds system:
SERVE YOUR WORLD SYSTEM: I will love all people, but I will not worship their world system, nor will I bow to what is publicly adored, in vogue or now politically correct.
I will bow only to the Christ and his word.
*if you don’t approve of the LGBQT agenda, you will be fired, you will be mocked, you will be picketed, you will be boycotted…
*If you don’t do things this way on the job (cut corners, malign others to move forward, fudge on the percentages, lie about inventory, escalate the cost of loss and or insurance claims, lie to customers etc… you will pay the price- yes you will, you will become bound by the world. But in time by not bowing to the world you will find freedom in Christ.
My past job as a pastor-
What the pastor did not know was I was talking to another pastor of a very large and influential church. He had my back…

That which binds you:
1 - Samson
Judges 16
4 Some time later, he fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah.
- - 15 Then she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when you won’t confide in me? This is the third time you have made a fool of me and haven’t told me the secret of your great strength.” 16 With such nagging she prodded him day after day until he was sick to death of it.
— 20 Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”
He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.
21 Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding grain in the prison. 22 But the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.
And we never hear of Delilah ever again. He gave his all only to have her betray him and leave him.
There are things that will enslave you and once your are bound by its powers it will walk away and leave you for dead.
**That which bound Samson was not evil in his eyes, it was not detestable, it was sweet, it was expected, it felt great, it felt right, it was innocent to him… it was love.
I don’t want a beautiful young lovely woman to marry my boys… I want Gods woman to marry my boys.
**You give your life to your job. You miss holidays, you miss your kids games, it brings fighting into your marriage, you miss church,You miss small groups, you miss being used in ministry… you love your job and it pays well… and then Friday rolls around and you are let go. no one cares, no one sheds a tear, no one try’s to get you a new job, no one is worried that you gave up so much of your life.
NOW NO JOB AND NO BEAUTIFUL MARRIAGE, NO DEEP RELATIONSHIPS WITH YOUR KIDS, NO STRONG SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS IN YOUR CHRISTIAN WALK, NO DEEP MEANINGFUL CONNECTION TO GOD.
What you love can either free you or bind you.
Put your all and all into Jesus and he will free you.
Put it into anything else and it will enslave you.

Hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving day… ours was epic. I had an ear, eye, nose and throat infection. YAY at least I know now why I have had such a hard time getting over this cold… it’s not a cold - it’s not a tumor - its an infection.
What is it you want more than anything else in the world?
Money?
Wisdom?
Happiness?
Health?
A relationship?
A family?
Regardless of what you answered it probably breaks down into one of 3 areas: Wealth, happiness or Health.
We can put some work in and have some creative control in these areas but they are tricky.
Wealth? yes you can work hard, have 2 jobs, some great investing, some smart saving, live within your means, and maybe a little luck…
But wealth is relative. How much is enough?
And we all know it can be gone in a second.
Health is very much the same way. You can eat right, exercise and think positively… and still get cancer - trust me I know. You could have some pre-genetic disease or disorder or even just have a bad experience with a cut, needle, germ etc…
Health can also be gone in a second.
You probably guessed where I am going with happiness. Same thing. Happiness is dependent on what happens (thus the root word) if good things happen then we are happy. If bad things happen then we are not happy.
Ever buy a new car and you were thrilled? and 3 days later it was totaled? I have.
Might I give some insight as to what really matters… not that health, wealth and happiness don’t matter, but they are only outcomes - and again outcomes that we have only minimal control over.
Here is what really matters.
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
This verse is the greek has a beautiful picture. It is that of your whole - all that you are - your physical body, your soul… talents, ideas, gifting etc… your mind, your spirit… all that makes you YOU- commit it in full work.
Be totally committed in every area to everything you do.
Two take aways from this verse:
First - thats the case then you must realize that you can do a lot of stuff and only be half way committed because you don’t have enough time to fully commit. So pick a few things and go all out 100%. Sometimes we water down our results simply because we are doing to much.
Second - fulfillment typically comes not so much from accomplishing our goals but rather by knowing we gave it our all. I can live with 100% effort and not 100% results, but I can’t live with 100% results and only 100% effort… I gotta know I put my all into it.
The story of the the woodchopper… I gotta see the chips fly.

Thankful for the challenges in life.
People who talk Jesus and don’t live it.
People who talk behind my back and malign my character.
People who owe me money that I will never see.
People who tell me that I am the best pastor ever only to leave a few weeks later because of something I said.
I am thankful for these situations so that I can love, forgive and learn more to be like Christ. I am also thankful because it reminds me that I too have played these roles in others lives and I need to ask for forgiveness.
I am thankful for financial hardships. For not being able to buy my wife the necklace or give her extra money for Christmas or birthdays. I am thankful for having to stretch a penny even when it makes me look cheap. I am thankful for having to work a 3rd and sometimes 4th job… even when I feel like at my age I have earned the right to be in a big church with a big salary and worry free. I am thankful that I have to check my balance in my account before I fill up my car with gas. I am thankful that through all these things God has showed me that I can trust him and that he is my source. I do not need to stress or fret- but simply trust that he knows where I am at and he will supply all my needs according to his riches and glory.
I am thankful for having gifts that I feel are underused and not fully engaged due to my current situation. I am thankful that I feel like I have the street cred and the talent to do so much more and yet feel like I am spinning my wheels. I am thankful weekly for having to remind myself that I am called to change the world but can’t even seem to change my small little ministry. I am thankful in all these because it is my calling to serve, preach, teach and lead regardless of the size of audience. I am thankful that in all things God truly does the work and all I am called to do is serve him and not man, men or millions.
I am thankful for friends and family who have back slidden in their walk and in their commitment to Christ. I am thankful for the hate speech from some extended family members to other family members. I am thankful that they are perfect and seem to know everyones flaws but their own. I am thankful that they are alcoholics, two faced, scripture twisting, and blind as they sleep in their own lukewarm river of apathy. I am thankful because it reminds me to pray for them and to cry for them and to fast for them. I am thankful because it reminds me I can love those that are easiest to hate… family. I am thankful because it reminds me of what Christ went through with the human race, and that I do not want to live any different than he did.
I am thankful for getting older. For having to warm up just to get out of bed. I am thankful for the aches and pains and the stretch marks and the age spots. I am thankful that I catch women looking at me in the mall only to realize they are looking at my sons standing next to me. I am thankful that my energy level is only going to go down from here. I am thankful that as I get older I feel like I am losing touch with technology, what’s hip and how to connect with people under 30. I am thankful for my ever growing bald spot and my need for stronger glasses. I am thankful that I have lived life beyond 3 cancers, a broken neck and a brain tumor. I am thankful that I have been given a desire to live my fullest even as I age. I am thankful that God has given me wisdom and insight over the years and that I feel more dangerous to the devil than ever before.
I am thankful my marriage is still not perfect. I am thankful that we still argue and fight and even go a few hours without talking to each other. I am thankful that we still are complete opposites in almost every way. I am thankful that she talks soft and I am deaf so I can never hear her. I am thankful that people at church and out and about see us and think we have the perfect marriage and we never fight and sex is still smoking hot and daily. I am thankful that my wife is still as hard as ever to figure out and drives me nuts with music, the thermostat, how I drive and my compulsion to never admit I am wrong. I am thankful that married life has given my many opportunities to want a divorce but to say no- my God is greater. I am thankful because if it not for a hard beginning I would not be as close to Christ as I am now. I am thankful for our teamwork that has brought us out of the dark times and gives us a foundation in which to speak to others about marriage with some validity and confidence.
I am thankful for being a pastor, a job in which you are more undervalued, under appreciated and overwhelmed than most people will ever understand. I am thankful for giving more of myself and time than most ever will in their jobs. I am thankful that I struggle to stay fresh spiritually some seasons in life and that it will show in my ministry and Sunday morning life. I am thankful that People will come and listen to sermons for years and never fully commit to discipline themselves or growing in their faith… but will be quick to pick out your flaws. I am thankful that people judge you by your actions but only judge themselves by their intentions. I am thankful that people will smile, pray, sing and shout their love for Jesus and then take jabs at myself and others in a passive aggressive way. I am thankful because it is the perfect mirror in which to keep myself in check and guard my heart. I am thankful that hard people can create in my a soft heart when I let God do his work. I am thankful that we are all ministers and we will all be judged accordingly. I am thankful that as hard as Pastoring is… It gives me a genuine no excuse day to tell people about Jesus.
What are you thankful for? is it the hard stuff? I hope it is. Don’t just waste today thanking God for the easy good stuff because it is the hard stuff that is of greatest value to you.

Super powers: You have them.
- “The saddest thing in life is wasted talent.”
- “Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God.” Leo Buscaglia
- “If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.” Thomas A. Edison
What made him a superhero?
It’s not the power it’s how you use it!
Even Villains had superpowers.
What does the Bible say?
1. Corinthians 12:7-11 “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.”
2. Romans 12:6-8 “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.”
3. 1 Peter 4:10-11 “Each of you has received a gift to use to serve others. Be good servants of God’s various gifts of grace. Anyone who speaks should speak words from God. Anyone who serves should serve with the strength God gives so that in everything God will be praised through Jesus Christ. Power and glory belong to him forever and ever. Amen.”
4. Exodus 35:10 “Let every skillful craftsman among you come and make all that the LORD has commanded.”
Serve the Lord
5. Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
6. Romans 12:11 “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.”
Be careful and remain humble.
7. 1 Corinthians 4:7 “Who says you are better than others? What do you have that was not given to you? And if it was given to you, why do you brag as if you did not receive it as a gift?”
8. James 4:6 “But God gives us even more grace, as the Scripture says, “God is against the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.”
Put it into action
9. Hebrews 10:24 “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.”
10. Hebrews 3:13 “Instead, continue to encourage one another every day, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”
Help the body of Christ.
11. Romans 12:4-5 “For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.”
12. 1 Corinthians 12:12 “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.”
13. 1 Corinthians 12:27 “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.”
Examples
14. Exodus 28:2-4 “Make sacred garments for Aaron that are glorious and beautiful. Instruct all the skilled craftsmen whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom. Have them make garments for Aaron that will distinguish him as a priest set apart for my service. These are the garments they are to make: a chestpiece, an ephod, a robe, a patterned tunic, a turban, and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother, Aaron, and his sons to wear when they serve me as priests.”

Chris, thanks for listening!
This week has been one for the ages… so I thought I would go off script and just talk openly about life and challenges.
Little sleep, asked to put on a conference that turned into 30 plus hours of work for me,
Had to put out some fires between people,
Had to sit down with a family member and go through some painful memories and just listen.
Had to do some investigative research into peoples backgrounds…
Had to sit with some family members who are dealign with addiction and not seeing the forest for the trees…
Manipulation, stress, no sleep, sickness, egos, anger, outbursts and money out of my own pocket.
Understand everyone has a story and you don’t know it.
Everyone has a story and cannot possibly see how it affects them… you just don’t
Everyone needs love, but that doesn’t always mean sweet, comforting patient love… it means no attitude, but telling it straight and not allowing yourself to be manipulated.

Ken P - thanks for the kind words.
Glen P From Tyler Texas… wristbands are coming!
Perhaps you've heard the story of the Yugoslavian judge who was
electrocuted when he reached up to turn on the light while standing in the
bathtub. No, I'm not cruel or weird, let me tell you the rest of the
story. This guys poor wife found his body sprawled on the bathroom floor.
He was pronounced dead and was placed in a preparation room under a crypt
in the town cemetery for twenty-four hours before burial.
Well, and this is the part I love, in the middle of the night, the judge
came to. The judge looked around at his surroundings and suddenly realized
where he was. He got pretty excited and rushed over to alert the guard.
But instead of being any help, the guard was terrified and promptly ran
off.
Fortunately, though, the guard returned with a friend, and they released
the newly-revived judge. The judge's first thought was to phone his wife
and reassure her that he really wasn't dead. Unfortunately, he got no
farther than, "Honey... it's me," when his wife screamed and fainted.
So, he decided that the best course of action was to enlist some friends.
He went to the houses of several friends; but because they all had heard
the news from his distraught wife, they all doubted that he was really
alive. They were all convinced he was a ghost.
Finally, in a last desperate effort, he contacted a friend in another city
who hadn't heard about his death. And that person was able to convince his
family and friends that the judge really was alive.
That story almost sounds like one of the Gospel writers could have written
it, doesn't it? It sure sounds like the passage from John this morning.
Hey if Jesus really is alive… Then I want what is coming to me!
1 Cor. 6:20 you are bought with a price
1 Cor. 7:23 We were bought with a price
Mark 10:45 his life was given as a ransom for many
Jesus died to pay the price… but it is only as good as the resurrected body. So YES! We get it all. Everything that Christ died for, he was also raised from the dead for - so that we might have life in him eternal. And so that we might have all that he died for - for us.
I think I have mentioned this… I sometimes pray for people, and if they are not healed I pray again and remind the sickness and disease that God paid for this healing and he gets what he paid for!
Would you accept anything less than what you paid for? Probably not…
Your friend or wife saves up all their money- every last dollar and and purchases a brand-new sports car FOR YOU! and they deliver it without an engine or any interior? You would be fine with that right?
UH as the man says “Not a freaking chance”.
So why would you be ok with getting only part of What Christ paid for… FOR YOU!
HE PAID FOR YOUR SALVATION
YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS
YOUR BLESSING
YOUR HEALING
YOUR BOLDNESS
YOUR RELATIONSHIPS
Here is a challenge - read the bible today in the New Testament and read it with the mindset “thats mine, I want it”. And go for it!

no pain no gain
Pain
Clyde Reid says in his book, Celebrate the temporary: "One of the most common obstacles to celebrating life fully is our avoidance of pain We do everything to escape pain. Our culture reinforces our avoidance of pain by assuring us that we can live a painless life Advertisements constantly encourage us to believe that life can be pain-free But to live without pain is a myth To live without pain is to live half a life, without fullness of life. This is an unmistakable, clear, unalterable fact. Many of us do not realize that pain and joy run together When we cut ourselves off from pain, we have unwittingly cut ourselves off from joy as well."
Clyde Reid, Celebrating the temporary. San Francisco, CA, Harper 1974, p.44-45

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
There are many things in life that could cause you a lot of pain, but doing nothing will always create the most pain. Garth
Doing nothing about your pain will cause suffering not one for you but those around you.
Do you know someone who is a chronic whiner about some pain in their life?
Weight? Job? Money?
They do nothing and they suffer more every day.
Elijah is in pain. he is burned out, he is on the run, he is lonely and he is semi delusional. And he runs from his pain…
So what does he do?
He gets away with God,
he eats, he sleeps and he listens to the voice of God and realizes he is not the only one going through tough times.
He quits hiding from it. He acts on what God is telling him to do.
Look when you are in physical pain what do you do?
You stop from the action that is causing it,
you walk away from the pain
you go to people who are safe
you allow yourself to heal
You learn from it….
so….
Henri Nouwen wrote that “our culture has become most sophisticated in the
avoidance of pain, not only our physical pain but our emotional and mental
pain as well.
So if you are in a pain other than physical… you do the same things.
You stop from the action that is causing it,
you walk away from the pain
you go to people who are safe
you allow yourself to heal
You learn from it….
