Ted Nugent said it best when he sang “Good friends and a bottle of wine,
Good friends show me good times
Good friends and a bottle of wine
So Glad for just what I got
So Glad I got me a lot
The simple things in life are the best.
If I think back to the best times in my life this past year of 2019 it would be easy…
Time spend with my family and time spent with my friends.
How easy is it to laugh, hang out, relax and enjoy life with your friends (and for free)… and yet how easy is it to go months without doing it.
I think of Shad Shack and Benny thrown into the fire… amazing faith they had… but don’t forget- they had each other. You think maybe they had a great story to tell? After that when they hung out they probably had jokes like “gotta light”, is it getting hot in here, Light it up, and my favorite… its not that hard, its not like getting tied up and thrown into a fiery furnace.
Jesus had disciples… friends. They hung out, they argued, they laughed, they asked questions, they served together, they told stories together.
You think they didn’t tell stories about Peter walking on water… John out running Peter to the tomb, Thomas saying I won’t believe until I see the scares in his hands…
They told stories about Jesus walking through the walls as they hid and prayed after the Resurrection.
Paul hung out with Barnabas, Silas, Luke, they told stories about getting stoned, whipped, shipwrecked…
If you asked me to drive 3 hours from here and help someone clean their house… no way. But if you told me my 3-5 closest friends will be there- game on!
We hear about Davids mighty men, these men went to war for David, they took on multitudes of enemies and risked their lives for him…. They took on Armies…
And there were only 37 men!
Do you have at least 3-7 men you can hang with.
Go build up memories, and lifestyles and your spiritual walk with easy, simple free mandays… not mondays, but Mandays. You set time aside for you and your men friends.
here are some ideas:
Go fishing
Go hiking
Go meet at a coffee shop and sit outside
Get together and clean your guns, your cars your garage
Go for a drive a few hours away for some good food
Go play frisbee golf
Go to an open mic night
Go work at a shelter for a day together
Hang out at night and play monopoly scrabble or any other game you can cheat at.
Go to a highschool play
Go garage saleing… yes it will give you great memories
Go on a long drive and share your favorite songs from growing up
What will this do for you?
refresh, revive, renew, relax, recharge - No really it is the best thing you can do on a regular basis.
It’s proven to make you happier, healthier, Holier and I believe Humble’er - no one can keep you in your place like your friends.

Dave M - you had the idea about a fitness plan for reading and praying.
So when we look at a good fitness plan there are a few things that I start with with my clients.
Bigger
Faster
Stronger
Thinner
In fitness you can’t do more than one truly successfully. Each will get a little better, but you can’t get stronger and faster to your best ability …. at some point one will affect the other.
So what do you want to get out of your Spiritual fitness plan?
Hear God more?
Scripture come alive?
Get rid of sin?
Deal with a habit?
The reason I ask is because I think we go into a spiritual fitness plan expecting everything to change, and to make it happen in just a few short days.
Guys Fitness is like a woman… yea the first few times with her are amazing… but we all know the best is yet to come as we take more time. When I realize time with my woman, listening (hard) sacrificing for her (hard) sharing in her interests (hard) participating in her hobbies (hard) OVER TIME PEOPLE START TO NOTICE OUR RELATIONSHIP AND WANT OUR RELATIONSHIP… not realizing what we have learned- it takes time.
So don’t expect to be like Jesus over night… it may take 2 nights or 2 nights and 50 years - but the journey is worth it.
Fitness plan for spiritual consistency… just like in a physical fitness plan we are not worried about what we eat, about going in at 100%… we are building on consistency. Consistency will bring amazing results.
Track all this on your phone with notes
Have your gear ready… ever go to the gym and forget your headphones, belt, chalk, wraps, straps, protein, water bottle etc…
For Spiritual fitness I like to have a bible in my car to remind me, put a reminder on my calendar and even put verses on my phone home screen.
So Day one: Read 5 verses out of one of these books - Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians,
WHY? they are practical and easy to wrap your head around.
Say a prayer about the verses asking God to help you understand them fully.
Then read those same verses every day for 5 days. YES THE SAME VERSES!
Once you master that consistently read 10 verses out of one of those books, then go over each verse and pray over each verse each day. And read them again a few times each day. Once you get that consistently…
Now you are cooking with gas.
This might now be week 5 or 6 where you finally get some consistency… so now you stretch out a little.
Read 10 verses each day, pray over them and then ask God how you can practice them each day - and take notes of you actually trying to do them.
Now here is the true way to build massive momentum…
Do this with a partner: They can be in person, over text, via facebook- it doesn’t matter. Just do it to stay accountable and to have someone to share what you are learning.
DON’T HAVE ANYBODY- DO IT ANYWAY.
Now you want to prepare for a meet? A contest? A competition? or as the bible says a war? Final step: step out and do 2 things. Teach someone else how to read and pray (I don’t know everything… - yes that is the point, you will learn more by teaching someone else) Secondly go out and do what you see Jesus doing. Pray for others, sacrifice, love enemies… just simply live it out.
Every serious lifter knows that the exercising is the easy part- it’s the meet, the contest that is the part 99.99% won’t do. That is the way it is with most Christians… lots of us can read and pray… but the obey part is where we lose 99.99% of the followers.
Keep doing it until you miss not doing it!

Rick B… fasting and praying.
I understand when people say I am fasting media, or caffeine or sugar… but might I add my own 2 cents… thats not a biblical fast. Sure its hard, but its not what a fast that scripture calls us to do. Fasting is cutting out all food and drink except water to take that time to use for prayer.
From experience fasting has brought about the richest moments in my spiritual life. Fasting… no food, no drink, except water for more than a few days.
How fasting works in my life.
First day easy, second day hard, third day really hard, fourth day doable but still a little struggle (weak irritable etc…) 5th day is a break through. I am no longer hungry. I am more in tune with the Holy Spirit.
I can am easily grieved by words, actions, media etc…
If I continue more than a week I am more happy to get alone and pray than just about anything.
It is truly hard for me to fast only for one main reason… my ego. I love being strong. I love working out, I hate looking small and I absolutely hate when people ask me if I have been losing weight.
By the way my first 3 days fasting I am still drinking coffee but I slowly cut back only to not get a blinding headache.
Matthew 6:16, where Jesus is teaching His disciples basic principles of godly living. When speaking on fasting, He begins with, “When you fast,” not “If you fast.”
- To prepare for ministry. Jesus spent 40 days and nights in the wilderness fasting and praying before He began God’s work on this earth. He needed time alone to prepare for what His Father had called Him to do (Matthew 4:1-17; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-14).
2. To seek God’s wisdom. Paul and Barnabas prayed and fasted for the elders of the churches before committing them to the Lord for His service (Acts 14:23).
3. To worship God. Luke 2 tells the story of an 84-year-old prophetess named Anna. Verse 37 says, “She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.” Anna was devoted to God, and fasting was one expression of her love for Him.
Despite biblical examples throughout Scripture, many Christians are slow to fast. I believe there are three main factors that cause believers to be hesitant — fear, ignorance, or rebellion. - faithgateway.com
Why fast?
Dr. Bill Bright, in his guide Why You Should Fast, he listed the following reasons for seeking God through self-denial.
•Fasting was an expected discipline in both the Old and New Testament eras.
•Fasting and prayer can restore the loss of the “first love” for your Lord and result in a more intimate relationship with Christ.
•Fasting is a biblical way to truly humble yourself in the sight of God.
•It enables the Holy Spirit to reveal your true spiritual condition, resulting in brokenness, repentance, and a transformed life.
•Fasting will encourage the Holy Spirit to quicken the Word of God in your heart and His truth will become more meaningful to you.
•Fasting can transform your prayer life into a richer and more personal experience.
•Fasting can result in a dynamic personal revival in your own life and make you a channel of revival to others.

FEAR FILLS NO VOID
4- When you help promote fear through their faulty ideals and internally insecure agenda they are trying to mask the lack of power you have over your own life. Rebellion is a false sense of power… fear mimics rebellion in that sense. You scare others as if you have it all figured out and as if you are not afraid… and when you scare others it makes you feel powerful.
Again look at the media. They try to show their power by instilling fear into those that take the bait.
Power Vs. Force by David R. Hawkins
Fear is the favored official tool for control by oppressive totalitarian agencies, and insecurity is the stock-in-trade of major manipulators of the marketplace. The media and advertising play to Fear to increase market shares. the proliferation of fears is as limitless as the human imagination; once Fear is one’s focus, the endless worrisome events of the world feed it. Fear becomes obsessive and may take any form-trepidation of losing a relationship leads to jealousy and a chronically high stress level. fearful thinking can balloon into paranoia or generate neurotic defensive structures and, because it’s contagious, become a dominant social trend. ;ear limits growth of the personality and leads to inhibition. Because it takes energy to rise above Fear, the oppressed are unable to reach a higher level unaided. Thus, the fearful seek strong leaders who appear
To have conquered their own Fears to lead them out of its slavery.
When you are fearful you are asking other people to have control and power over you. Who is supposed to be the power in our lives? JESUS!
Pay no attention to the fear of those who use it to yield power.
And if you feel like you are missing your true potential in power make sure you don’t use fear, instead call on your place and position as a follower of Jesus Christ. You have all power and authority in and through Jesus.
Acts 5:7 Ananias and Sapphira
11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.
We see a type of fear here that is based on the power of God in the life of the church and his followers.
If we are to be motivated by fear, may it be a Godly fear. May it be the type of fear that the world wonders “how the heck…”
If you are being manipulated by fear, it is because you lack God’s power. Go after God!

DAVE M - great email! I will get on it!
48 hours to get men to church!
3- Money
As a kid, I remember saving up my money and going to the drugstore and buying 4 different types of acne medication and cleaners… I spent 2 weeks allowance on basically make up… why? FEAR!
Fear is making a few people a lot of money out of making a lot of people fearful.
Look I get that some people are evil and use fear in some pretty disgusting ways… but to use it to make money off of others is just wrong in a 1000 ways.
So you use fear to teach your son not to run out in the street… ok not a fan, but I get it. But if you use fear to make your son get you a soda, or pick up YOUR mess or threaten him that he will never see his dog again… you are just twisted.
But that is the picture of the world right now.
Just jump on social media… and notice just how many things tie money and fear together.
You can’t have yellow teeth
You can’t have the same car your neighbor has
You gotta have cool pictures on your social media
You need to have the right body shape
You can’t be balding
You gotta have perfect kids who get great grades and excel in sports
You gotta have a lot of great friends
You have to have the latest gadgets and clothing and fads
You have to have a rocking hot relationship
You need to be a tough guy
You need to have a great job that people envy
You need to have the right position at your job
You need to go on great vacations
You have to have a manly hobby
You gotta have the newest 80 inch TV
You gotta be up on the newest news and hot topics
You got to be able to get lit up and cut loose and party
You gotta be a part of that country club
Acts 16:16-40 New International Version (NIV)
Paul and Silas in Prison
16 Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17 She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.
19 When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities. 20 They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar 21 by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.”
22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. 23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”
The owner fears not making money… he then tries to use fear to intimidate Paul and Silas.
What do they do? They sing songs and worship God.
They act against their fear.
You feel like the world is trying to take advantage of you and make a quick buck off of you and your fears… do what Paul does… praise God.
Let me be crystal clear about this: you show no fear, you refuse to be intimidated and you worship God. What a statement to those around you. When everyone is bowing to fear and wasting precious money… you save your bucks and thank God.
Look most of us remember being bullied as a kid and having to give up our lunch money or something like that… now is your time to stand up to the bully of fear and just say… not giving you my money today OR EVER.

2- Fear is all about control. Where there is fear you can bet your life someone is trying to control you. The media loves fear, politicians love fear, the powerless love fear and satan loves fear. Don’t be controlled. God is a God of freedom. Freedom is foundational to Gods character and anything that tries to steal your freedom through Fear (i.e. control you) you should… not run away from but instead run through it. Fear is crushed when you do that which you fear.
Satan uses fear to control us.
I recognize 3 types of fear today.
Extreme fear causes us to freeze. We literally can’t move our bodies, our minds literally race with all the things that are going to go wrong.
Rational fear (we rationalize why we should be afraid) has the ability to control our actions, choices and goals.
Simmering fear controls our thought life and steals energy from our daily life routine and zeal for a fantastic life.
Simmering fear… will I ever meet the right girl, will I ever get a good job, will I ever lose the weight.
The truth is we FEAR 4 THINGS AS MEN:
Pain - controls the boundaries in which we live in
Rejection - controls who we will let into our lives
Foolishness - controls what we will try (gullible)
Failure - controls what we will learn not just academically but what we can learn in life through failure.
A simple question: Will you be all that God wants you to be if you are controlled by fear?
John 8:
32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
The truth is God is in control of your life if you have given it over to him. The truth is you have more control over the future and your life through prayer and your relationship with God than any other thing that might get in your way through fear.
The truth is fear casts out all love- but where there is love there is no fear - there is no control. So when you ask God to show you how much he loves you- you get your life back. You get your control back.
Don’t be a sucker and let others control your life through fear… and that starts with you!

Shout out to Rick B… Fasting - great topic to take on!
Going into the NEW YEAR… a look at fear.
What do you gain by facing your fear?
Standing on a bridge at 100 feet high looking down at a river getting ready to jump. All I focused on was… this is going to be a great story.
Putting on the TDA conference- lots of risk, lots of money, lots of planning, and yes some fear… but I knew it would be a great story.
How many stories have you missed due to fear?
Fear is a teacher
1- Fear is simply telling you there is a great story to tell just around the corner of facing this fear. Life is about collecting stories, telling stories and teaching stories to others around you. Never deny the opportunity to collect a story. Face the fear. You say you don’t have any really good stories? I say it is because you have allowed your fear to keep you from truly living. You don’t really come alive until you live through the facade of fear. Want some great stories to tell? Start living regardless of what you fear.
2 Cor. 11:23-31
Paul - I am speaking like I am out of my mind, but I am so much more: in harder labor, in more imprisonments, in worse beatings, in frequent danger of death. 24Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked. I spent a night and a day in the open sea.…In my frequent journeys, I have been in danger from rivers and from bandits, in danger from my countrymen and from the Gentiles, in danger in the city and in the country, in danger on the sea and among false brothers,27in labor and toil and often without sleep, in hunger and thirst and often without food, in cold and exposure. 28Apart from these external trials, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches.…29Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not burn with grief? 30If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.…31The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is forever worthy of praise, knows that I am not lying.
Paul is going to boast about his stories where he faced fear. No one wants to hear a story about you sitting in your lounge chair sipping a beer. I want to hear stories about how you sacrificed, you took the step, you raised your hand, you quit your job, you prayed for your antagonist, you believed in healing over the doctors reports, you showed compassion when you could have chosen anger or revenge. Stories about you sticking it out in a bad marriage, you kicking your kid out for drugs… Stories are powerful if they are stories of overcoming… but overcoming has to have the element of fear to be a great lesson.

all that matters is today
When it says don’t worry about tomorrow, it is implying focus on Today. Make today count.
It doesn’t mean worry about today… it means work on today. Work keeps worry at bay.
Want to make Today the best day ever?
Risk something. Take a chance. Do something new. Choose to serve God in a new area, new way and with a little risk.
Tell someone you love them that needs to hear it.

Tell someone about Jesus.
Stay late and help the custodian.
