Circumstances, prophecy, dreams and fleeces!
These should be last resorts and they should back up what we are already feeling and hearing from others.
Circumstances = very rarely go against Godly counsel, how we feel inside, and never go against God’s written word.
Numbers 13 - the 12 spies give a true report. It was milk and honey and the inhabitants were all giants and they didn’t stand a chance… by all circumstances- however God had already told them the land was theirs.
Joshua and Caleb were 2 of the 12 spies. All circumstances said that they could not take the land. But they saw beyond the circumstances.
WHEN GOD CLOSES A DOOR HE OPENS A WINDOW – TRUE, BUT IT MAY BE A WINDOW ON THE 4TH FLOOR!
Ask yourself “what did God say?”
Prophecy = this is where we receive a word from another Christian who does not know what we are seeking God’s will on. God gives them a specific word for our lives.
In the New Testament I don’t find one person seeking a prophetic word from God, I only see it coming to them when it’s God’s timing.
I have received quite a few prophetic words… I will give you one that truly stands out. I had Tom Stamman come to my church about 3 years ago. He pointed to a young man who was an addict, struggling and he said you will be Garth’s right hand man, you will preach and teach and help lead this church. I didn’t believe it, and in fact the guy disappeared for about another year… but then he came back, he was on fire for God and guess who is leading my church right now while I am on vacation? Its him, it’s Sean, he is preaching and taking on the whole service.
When you get a prophetic word- don’t rush it. We make a mistake when something supernatural happens and we think it will happen immediately… let God keep track of time, you just keep track of the word of prophecy.
Dreams = sometimes we have them, sometimes others have them and tell us about them.
Dreams may seem the most hard to truly believe and understand, but the fact that God uses them means they will undoubtedly shake you and bring huge conviction. Now I have had a few dreams that were God speaking to me, but one that stands out is when a friend of mine Angie Steinke called me up and said she had a dream about me…
She was spot on, and it happened exactly the way she said.
Fleeces = we ask God to show us through supernatural evidence.
Josh. 6 Gideon wanted a fleece, can you? Sure if you first get visited by the angel of the Lord.
Now before you throw a fleece out there remember that Gideon had already had an angel show up and speak to him… so a fleece should be a last ditch effort to encourage you WHAT YOU ALREADY KNOW!

January has been about pushing into the new year with Gods mindset for you to make this year better than ever.
Col. 3:23, 24
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
FIRST THOUGHT
The world belongs to the energetic. Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Energy is more valuable than education, intelligence, money. Health is more valuable than gold.
If one of your primary goals is not to stay healthy than you are wasting your potential. If you can not enjoy your life then why work so hard to have a life.
V. 23 What ever you do WORK- Energy.
SECOND THOUGHT
The thing you most fear carries your greatest growth
If you are not growing you are dying… Fear keeps you in the state of death.
Some of you feel like you are not progressing, you are not truly living you are not growing… it is because of fear.
Here is one quick way to flip the script on fear… realize you are not living your life for you (you are not doing it for you) you are doing it for Christ. There is no reason to fear when you do the right thing… he is in charge.
THIRD THOUGHT
Criticism is the price you pay to build a legacy.
Everyone is worried about what others are thinking about them, but the truth is - that criticism is the tell tale sign that you are doing something that others dare not do. It means you are being yourself.
Dr. David H. Frank a psychologist for the Veterans association did a huge study on people who were critical. It was very revealing, but maybe the most revealing things was that he found critical people are going to criticize you whether you do the right thing, the wrong thing or no thing. So just be yourself and do it.
V. 23 work as for the Lord… Don’t worry about what others think. It’s not important.

Progress is success, because success is a journey and not a destination. Look back on the year asking “Did I make progress?” - Not did I succeed. If you judge success merely by succeeding and not progress you will give up over time. Success is a journey not a destination.
Hebrews
12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Success is not merely based on finances or advancement. its based on achieving in every area of your life. In balance, in all areas growing. The guy who makes millions but is out of shape or a bad marriage or lousy relationships, or has some habitual sin… is not a success any more than the 10 year old who thinks he is successful because he gets to eat candy for every meal.
And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52
Wisdom = insight and skill
Stature = Maturity, a lot of guys out there still junior high mindset
Favor = Grace, more like the Father

One of the greatest branding campaigns was the verizon commercials “can you hear me now”.
3. Obedience to his voice builds intimacy and power
Rom. 8:35-39 God is everywhere - "Can you hear me Now?"
What are 3 areas you want to know God’s will in… before you try to find out ask yourself “Do I really expect to find God’s will in these area’s?”
What job to take,
what college to go to,
who to marry,
How should I treat my spouse?
Should I invest my money in this?
should TAKE ON ANOTHER SPORT or hobby
should I change friends
should I dress the way I dress
should I watch this movie
Which leads us to point 2… it’s not enough to believe we can know his will –
- We must want to know his will
Our Scripture was Ephesians 5:17 NLT - "Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do." NIV-therefore do not be unwise but understand what the will of the lord is.
Sometimes I stop and ponder… what did kim ask me to do again? More then I ponder what does God want me to do?
REASONS WHY WE NEED TO KNOW GOD’S voice!
- It assures us of eternal life- not everyone who says to me lord lord shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father in heaven. Mt. 7:21
- It allows us to understand additional truth – if any man do his will, he shall know of the doctrine *understand God’s word– John 7:17
- It secures for us the promises of God – after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise – Heb. 10:36
- It is always what’s best for us bringing his fulfillment and purpose into our lives. BROKEN NECK! Was it God’s perfect will? That I don’t know, but I do know it brought about the best in me! God told me that this was what was best for me…
CHRIST EMBODIED THIS –
HE SAYS IN JN. 5:30 THAT HE DOES NOT SEEK HIS WILL BUT HIS FATHERS, HE SAID HIS FOOD IS TO DO THE WILL OF GOD JN. 4:34,
AND AT THE END OF HIS LIFE HE WAS ABLE TO SAY “I HAVE FINISHED THE WORK WHICH YOU HAVE GIVEN ME TO DO JN. 17:4
The two most prominent prayers in the New Testament are the Lord’s Prayer and the prayer at the garden of Gethsemane the night before his crucifixion. The theme in both prayers was “not my will but thy will be done!”
We many times Publicly say we want to know God’s will but Privately we know we will only live it if we like it better then ours.
In all your requests do you ask for God’s will in each area?

EXODUS 3
1 One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he went deep into the wilderness near Sinai, the mountain of God. 2 Suddenly, the angel of the Lord appeared to him as a blazing fire in a bush. Moses was amazed because the bush was engulfed in flames, but it didn’t burn up. 3“Amazing!” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go over to see this.”
4When the Lord saw that he had caught Moses’ attention, God called to him from the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
“Here I am!” Moses replied.
5 “Do not come any closer,” God told him. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.” 6Then he said, “I am the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses heard this, he hid his face in his hands because he was afraid to look at God.
7 Then the Lord told him, “You can be sure I have seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries for deliverance from their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. 8 So I have come to rescue them from the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own good and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey—the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites live. 9The cries of the people of Israel have reached me, and I have seen how the Egyptians have oppressed them with heavy tasks. 10 Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You will lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”
11“But who am I to appear before Pharaoh?” Moses asked God. “How can you expect me to lead the Israelites out of Egypt?”
12Then God told him, “I will be with you. And this will serve as proof that I have sent you: When you have brought the Israelites out of Egypt, you will return here to worship God at this very mountain.”
13 But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘the God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they won’t believe me. They will ask, ‘Which god are you talking about? What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?”
14 God replied, “i am the one who always is. Just tell them, ‘i am has sent me to you.’” 15God also said, “Tell them, ‘the Lord, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This will be my name forever; it has always been my name, and it will be used throughout all generations.
16 “Now go and call together all the leaders of Israel. Tell them, ‘the Lord, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—appeared to me in a burning bush. He said, “You can be sure that I am watching over you and have seen what is happening to you in Egypt. 17I promise to rescue you from the oppression of the Egyptians. I will lead you to the land now occupied by the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey.”’
18 “The leaders of the people of Israel will accept your message. Then all of you must go straight to the king of Egypt and tell him, ‘the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us go on a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God.’
19“But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go except under heavy pressure. 20So I will reach out and strike at the heart of Egypt with all kinds of miracles. Then at last he will let you go. 21And I will see to it that the Egyptians treat you well. They will load you down with gifts so you will not leave empty-handed. 22 The Israelite women will ask for silver and gold jewelry and fine clothing from their Egyptian neighbors and their neighbors’ guests. With this clothing, you will dress your sons and daughters. In this way, you will plunder the Egyptians!”
1. Who does God speak to?
God did not speak to Moses when he was a rich prince with every opportunity available to him. God had to bring Moses to a point where he was ready to hear his voice.
St Augustine tells a parable kinda like this:
What if God said make up your ultimate wish list.
Great job using your talents,
health,
hearty mind and body,
favor with man,
great wardrobe,
new and exciting opportunities,
friends galore,
great sex life,
respect,
rewarding family,
powerful spiritual gifts,
wisdom,
sought after by people,
a great nights sleep,
sip latte’s with your boy/girlfriend spouse at Starbucks,
ski the slopes of Colorado,
a condo in palm springs and a mountain lodge in Michigan,
You could have it all.
AND THEN GOD SAYS I WILL GIVE IT ALL TO YOU IF YOU ACCEPT THIS OFFER “YOU CAN NEVER BE IN MY PRESENCE”
Augustine says the chill you feel regarding that statement shows where your love for God is at. If it chills you to the bone, you are in tune with God.
What am I trying to say?
Some of us are pursuing things, and accolades and goals and accomplishments more then we are pursuing his voice.
If you could have it all but never hear his voice again… would you be ok with that. I HOPE NOT.
2. How does he speak and when?
- We must know that we can know his will.
Ephesians 5:17 says “therefore do not be unwise but understand what the will of the lord is.
Maybe we sometimes don’t seek his will because we think we won’t ever really know it. This goes against the very nature of God.
You often hear “it’s on a need to know basis – and you don’t need to know!
God wants you to know!
God created Adam because he was alone… he wanted to talk.
The first time God said it wasn’t good is when?
Then when Adam was alone He created Eve…
It is God’s very Nature that we commune with him, that we hear his voice…
How boring is Christianity if we do not talk to God AND LISTEN FOR HIS VOICE!

An addiction to distraction is the end of creative production. Robin Sharma
I would strongly suggest that it is also the death of spiritual depth.
As Michael Koulionus… said:
Attention is the fuel to the spiritual life. Careful of the dove!
Here is a question that will seem ridiculous but it’s worth your time to try and answer - What do you think about all day?…
Luke 5:
16Yet He frequently withdrew to the wilderness to pray.
Frequently: I exist solely for….
Withdrawing…
Prayer: exchange my desires and wishes for Gods and desires and wishes.
Again, you can’t have intimacy without time and focused attention with God.
Or let me put it this way… the answer to your problem (Any problem- all problems) is simply more time with Jesus.
Get away daily, take time even sacrifice other things for time to be with Jesus.

Exodus 23:
27 “I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run. 28 I will send the hornet ahead of you to drive the Hivites, Canaanites and Hittites out of your way. 29 But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you. 30 Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.
31 “I will establish your borders from the Red Sea[a] to the Mediterranean Sea,[b] and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give into your hands the people who live in the land, and you will drive them out before you. 32 Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods. 33 Do not let them live in your land or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.”
Slow victory is sweet victory.
Can an egg fly? Can a puppy be a good guard dog? Absolutely not, and absolutely yes - if you love the process.
- he wants you to win, but he also wants you to be able to handle the booty (no pun intended)
V. 29 But I will not drive them out in a single year, because the land would become desolate and the wild animals too numerous for you.
Listen you want to be president of your company… I get it. And maybe God wants that for you as well…. but maybe he knows you need to learn a few things before he lands you that job. Trust the process, trust him.
- When we want a fast victory it comes with a cost… how many men became a big deal in their 30’s and 40s and it cost them their family. When the guy like me who now has time to put more into the big victory having my boys out, and just my wife and I.
And trust me I have met them. Jeff, big time photographer traveling the world taking pictures of the biggest rock stars ever… he was young, newly married, and a young daughter… it was to much to handle.
- Slow victory is a full sweep. When we make it happen fast there are too many loose ends… when God does it over time he takes care of everything.
As a kid I could clean my room up in literally 5 minutes (and my room was a pig sty) however, don’t look in my closet… or I could take time to really clean it and then I didn’t care who looked where or why.
- God can use the unusual to bring a victory. Wasps?
Why do we as men think we know the best way to victory? WE can have it all planned out… and God can seemingly go the complete opposite way. PROVERB: Want to make God laugh? Start making plans.
- When you clear house and start to walk in victory don’t make any promises to your past.
Are you willing to claim a victory by making shady deals with your past?
Why is it even after we start to walk in victory we want more and we go back to the way we used to do things? Old habits die hard- right?
Why? Well back then when you made covenants it was many times to try to keep peace (keep what you worked so hard for) so enemies would come and say hey so that we stay in good favor, why don’t you marry some of our most beautiful women and that way we have a better chance of you not attacking us. BUT THOSE SMOKING HOT WOMEN WOULD BEGIN TO INTRODUCE THE GODS OF THE PAST INTO THE CULTURE. and what was worked so hard for gets stolen by the enemy through tricks and deception.
- Cut off all the things that kept you from victory and don’t let them hang around or you will fall back into bondage.
So you have the victory… but don’t forget to take time to look back and ask yourself, what was it that kept me from having victory for so long. Maybe it was Gods doing and it was what was best… or maybe it was your own ego, selfishness, pride etc… Keep it cut and away from you and continue to rely on God for victory.

- When did the demonic raise its ugly head in scripture? When the Kingdom of God was being established. What is the kingdom of God? it’s when you live, expect, pray and demand things on earth to be according to things in heaven. Expect the demonic and problems to rise up and then stomp on them, stand on the promise of scripture and take and wake the faith up!
While its true, satan hates all of us… not just Christians… I do see in scripture that when the Kingdom of God is actively moving forward through people they are more apt to expect, see and experience demonic attack.
2 Timothy 3:
12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
1 Peter 4:
12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And,
“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”[a]
19 So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good. (double down and go for more)

MAN TEST
1. Do you ever lose sleep over problems you are having in your marriage or family?
2. Have you had more than 6 major failures in your public life?
3. Do other men seek you out for life altering advice
4 Is there anything you did this past month that you would be embarrassed if someone had found out?
- Do you have any habitual sins you are not being accountable for in your life?
- Can a friend trust you to keep an intimate secret… you tell no one, ever!
- Has your handling of money gotten better and better over the years or do you always seem to be short or in need?
- Do you still get in fights in your marriage over the same issues?
- Do you have men who naturally seek you out for life advice?
- Would you want your daughter to marry a man just like you?
- Would you want your wife to remarry someone just like you?
- Do you see a more constant leading of the Holy Spirit in your life than 3 years ago?
- Can I freely check your computer, your phone, your spending and your language over the last year and you not feel uncomfortable
- Do you still hold bitterness towards anyone?
- Can you say you would gladly relive this past year over and over again with your choices… not circumstances, but choices?
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test
2 Cor. 13:5
Examine: Scrutinize and show the evidence
TEST: prove it by your actions
Fail: counterfeit
