Upon his retirement as CEO of the Coca-cola Company Donald R. Keough spoke
to the graduating class of Emory (1993). To those young men and women who
would soon be facing a very tough and critical world, he said, "I have an
architect friend who says, 'I can take the newest building, built by the
finest builders anywhere in the world, and if you give me a camera and the
ability to focus various lenses, I can make that building look like it's
about to fall down because I will find five or six minor imperfections,
focus on them and convince you that the entire structure is about to
topple.'"
In a society where a handful of people focus the camera of life on the
events of the day, if you and I allow them to use their camera to focus on
our lives, then we will be often disappointed, frequently fearful and genera
lly miserable. Be wary of those who want to focus the camera forever on the
warts and blemishes and shortcomings of our existence.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
And to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Ever hear the saying “whats eating at you”. Really what they are saying is “what are you looking at”.
It’s a really great question.

A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.
The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain.
Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.
"What a fool I am," he said. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for."
And off he walked very, very scornfully.
There are many who pretend to despise and belittle that which is beyond their reach.
52Meanwhile, everyone was weeping and mourning for her. But Jesus said, “Stop weeping; she is not dead but asleep.” 53And they laughed at Him, knowing that she was dead. 54But Jesus took her by the hand and called out, “Child, get up!”…
Why did they scorn Jesus? They thought it was impossible.
We as men do the same when it comes to our own spiritual walks. We are expected to be just like Jesus.
Eph. 5:1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.
But we believe it is impossible so we scorn it, we disbelieve it, we reframe the story to meet our narrative.
The truth is deep down inside we actually have 2 fears… One is failure…
Two is the cost…

Do I want your spiritual nature?
Do you want mine?
Long ago I learned this splendid lesson. One night I was in a strange city and was sick. I wanted somebody to pray for me. A person was present, and they suggested that they would pray. I knelt by a chair on the floor and they put their hands on me,
and I arose from that chair with one of the most tremendous passions in my nature, one of the most terrible conditions of sensuousness in me. It was days before I felt that I got back
again where I was pure and holy in the sight of God. I did not understand it at the time, but afterward that individual came to
me with the confession of the character of his life, and I under-stood then. I received the condition of that nature, and in my
receptive attitude I received of the vileness of that person in my
nature. It seemed my soul was soiled for days in consequence.
That taught me, beloved, to be careful who laid their hands on me. After that, I waited until the Spirit of the living God indicated in my soul that the person who offered to perform such a
ministry was pure.
You may not be a good teacher, you may not speak good in front of people… but that will not stop you from passing on your nature to those you are around the most. And the same goes for those you hang with.
1 John 4: Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.

Usage: I put to the test, prove, examine; I distinguish by testing, approve after testing; I am fit.

The biggest tragedy to Mary and Martha was that Martha never stopped to listen to Jesus, only the voices in her head.

You know you are in trouble when you quit crying at funerals, laughing at weddings and yelling at games.
1. Joy/happiness
Happiness is a choice. Acting "as if," accepting affirmation and developing cognitive frameworks for upbeat thinking become self-fulfilling prophesies. Joy attracts positive support.
2. Confidence/self-esteem
Inner assurance and personal care create the reality of someone who is ready to perform and actualize potential. Positive self thinking demonstrates inner strength, resolve and constructive self-management. It acknowledges inner value. Confidence translates into reality.
3. Optimism/positive thinking
Those who believe are ready to achieve. Hope and an upbeat attitude take things in stride. They see the silver lining in situations. Optimism accentuates a world where dreams can come true.
4. Interest/curiosity
The mindset of a learner is open to adventure and growth. It is challenged to expand through an authentic curiosity. This thinking empowers continuous improvement.
5. Amusement/humor
Laughter is medicine for the soul. A ready smile and healthy sense of humor attract people.
6. Contentment/serenity/tranquility
Inner peace creates personal power. The calmness and serenity of quiet contentment provide inner rest and permit heightened self-regulation.
7. Love/affection/warmth/caring
Relationships are predicated on acceptance and connection with others. These supportive feelings create empathy {essential to form friendships and bonds}.
8. Respect/positive regard
Those who get the best from others believe the best is in them. Respect offers esteem to associates and acquaintances. It fosters dignity and seeks higher levels of relational quality.
9. Pride/satisfaction/achievement
Rather than a haughty sense, pride takes legitimate satisfaction in a job well done. This credit comes from performing and achieving.
10. Gratitude/thankfulness
Appreciation for the support and contributions of others encourages continued and further gifts.
Emotion the mission, you become burned out personally so everything your spouse does aggravated you. You then become emotionally filled and mentally filled by someone else by default and it causes an affair. When all along if you learn how to take care of yourself emotionally your marriage would be much healthier and what your spouse did and didn't do wouldn't bother you as much.

1 John 5: 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Jealousy
Your ulcers are not due to what you eat, but what is eating you.
Jealousy
Two shopkeepers were bitter rivals. Their stores were directly across the street from each other, and they would spend each day keeping track of each other's business. If one got a customer, he would smile in triumph at his rival. One night an angel appeared to one of the shopkeepers in a dream and said, "I will give you anything you ask, but whatever you receive, your competitor will receive twice as much. Would you be rich? You can be very rich, but he will be twice as wealthy. Do you wish to live a long and healthy life? You can, but his life will be longer and healthier. What is your desire?" The man frowned, thought for a moment, and then said, "Here is my request: Strike me blind in one eye!"
One sign of jealousy is when it's easier to show sympathy and "weep with those who weep" than it is to exhibit joy and "rejoice with those who rejoice."
How dangerous is jealousy? It is one step short of murder as seen in scripture with King Saul and his attempt to kill David.
Jealousy is fear based stemming from a deep inferior complex… you are not as good in any area as others, you see yourself less than…
When you are jealous you are twisting the reputations and accomplishments of others to make yourself look better through false comparisons.
James 3:13, 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.

Well ask yourself this:
Do you currently share Christ?
Could you go to a strip club and not have lustful thoughts even if you were not sharing Christ?
Do you understand the process by which you would make this decision?

Can you hang out with non Christians and still keep a strong Christian witness?
Can you hang out at work and still stand out as the follower of Christ?
Can you hang around non Christians and not have it affect your words, mindset, stories, thoughts?
Can you get on your phone and stick to Christ pleasing images and sites?
I had to realize this early on when dating my wife… We could not be left alone at night away from people, we could not be out super late, we could not expect our hormones to think clearly while madly in love and engaged.
Was a Jesus fanatic? yes, sold out all for jesus… but I did not trust my flesh!
