- 3 He sees the dead child eating with her family laughing and giving Praise to God.
Luke 8:51 When they arrived at the house, Jesus wouldn’t let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, James, and the little girl’s father and mother. 52 The house was filled with people weeping and wailing, but he said, “Stop the weeping! She isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.”
53 But the crowd laughed (THEY SCORNED HIM) at him because they all knew she had died. 54 Then Jesus took her by the hand and said in a loud voice, “My child, get up!” 55 And at that moment her life returned, and she immediately stood up! Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were overwhelmed, but Jesus insisted that they not tell anyone what had happened.
THEY SCORNED HIM: (contempt… what’s for dinner?)
Who do you think you are to tell me they have a shot at a great life
(who are you to tell me God has a great life for me?)
Contempt: Your life isn’t over. God still has a plan… and others look at you in contempt, disgust, judgement
THE AUDACITY OF JESUS… SHE IS JUST SLEEPING.
*(as a parent I have confessed this over my boys)

Even Wilbur Wright, who proved Kelvin and Newcomb wrong, admitted that in 1901 he had said to his brother that “man would not fly for fifty years.” He was off by forty-eight. The number of respected scientists and accomplished inventors who declared the airplane an impossibility is exceeded only by the number who said the same thing about space travel, television sets, microwave ovens, nuclear power, heart transplants, and female senators.

Peter fails… Jesus knew he wold fail. Jesus calls Peter out of his failure. Jesus goes so far as to set him in place to be a foundational pillar for the church. And lets not forget that Peter failed in an epic way.

OVERCOMING ADVERSITY
The parable is told of an old dog that fell into a farmer’s well. After assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the dog but decided that neither the dog nor the well were worth the trouble of saving. Instead he planned to bury the old dog in the well and put him out of his misery.
When the farmer began shoveling, initially the old dog was hysterical. But as the farmer continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. It dawned on the dog that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back he should shake it off and step up. This he did blow after blow. "Shake it off and step up, shake it off and step up, shake it off and step up!" he repeated to encourage himself.
No matter how painful the blows or how distressing the situation seemed, the old dog fought panic and just kept shaking it off and stepping up! It was not long before the dog, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well. What seemed as though it would bury him actually benefited him--all because of the way he handled his adversity.
If we face our problems and respond to them positively, refusing to give in to panic, bitterness, or self-pity, the adversities that come along to bury us usually have within them the potential to bless us! Forgiveness, faith, prayer, praise, and hope are some of the biblical ways to shake it off and step up out of the wells in which we find ourselves.
Failure - you shake it off. Numerous failure… you still shake them off.
What is the other option? Buried, suffocate, give up… death with out realizing your destiny? NEVER. SHAKE IT OFF.

When was the last time you were truly shocked?
Brain tumor…
But when was the last time you were shocked over someones behavior?
Jesus touching people…
and making others feel uncomfortable
Jesus is unshockable! (its not a word- I just made it up)
Nothing you have done, said or thought will ever shock Jesus.
NOT ONLY THAT: IT WILL NEVER CHANGE HOW HE SEES YOUR FUTURE, HOW HE SEES YOU IN HIS CHARGE.
Jesus touches the leper, the woman and the dead.
- 1 Matthew 8:2Suddenly a leper came and knelt before Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” He said, “be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
THE RELIGIOUS: The pharisees said lepers were that way because of sin in their lives. They detested them. They would carry rocks in their pockets and throw them at lepers to keep them away.
He sees the leper cleansed playing with his kids for the first time in years
REMEMBER: NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE LOOKING AT -YOU ARE LOOKING AT SOMENE JESUS LOVES IMMENSELY.

After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Beltway had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Gal. 6;7
Bill Wilson was the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. For that accomplishment, Time magazine named Wilson one of the Top 100 People of the 20th century. But Wilson never found freedom from his addictive behavior.
One author noted that, "Despite his victory over drink, Wilson remained incurably addictive. He chain-smoked himself into terminal emphysema. Even on his death bed, he puffed incorrigibly as he suffocated." Wilson did not drink for the last 37 years of his life, and yet he always craved alcohol. "As he lay dying and semi-delirious, he repeatedly demanded whiskey."
Back in 1951, Wilson wrote, "Any way you look at it, it's a problem world." Although he battled the problem of alcohol addiction, he gave in to other obsessions. Wilson was serially unfaithful to his long-suffering wife, Lois. He had innumerable affairs and a long-term mistress with whom he contemplated eloping to Ireland.
Despite his program's insistence on "rigorous honesty," Bill Wilson lived a lie.
DON’T BE FOOLED… Authenticity brings power, attracts strong friendships, and the greater the authenticity the greater the impact on the world.
A woman who says she bought magic wands from a self-described psychic to erase negative thoughts says $5,400 of her money was all that disappeared.
Joann Zansky, 57, said she paid a woman who claims to be a psychic $1,800 for each of three wands.
"She was a terrific actress," Zansky said. "I believed her."
Zansky said she contacted Bethlehem police after she became suspicious about the effectiveness of the wands.
"We're investigating," police Lt. Robert Righi said. "Possibly it is some violation of consumer fraud."
No charges have been filed against the woman named in the complaint. A person who answered the phone at the woman's business said she was unavailable.
My first thought is… you believed in magic wands??? you deserve to be ripped off. Uh yea I bought magic Jelly beans that make you naked and I didn’t disappear and now I am being arrested for public nudity in Walmart… I want to sue… for what a brain?
Don’t be fooled, don’t be gullible, don’t be stupid… God will not be mocked, he sees you for who you are- so just be honest with him and let him work on you.
You know what this means… how do you be honest with God? How do you make sure you are not mocking God???
Confession….

Get your own!

Get your own. What comes to mind?
Back in the early 80’s on Thanksgiving day the Macy’s day parade had a stand still in the middle of its procession. It seems that one of the floats ran out of gas… The most bizarre thing about this story is not only is it true, but the float belonged to none other than the Standard Oil company.
Do you know how to grow a garden?
Do you know how to hunt? with a gun? with a bow? How to trap? with just rope?
Do you know how to dress a deer, skin a rabbit or squirrel or clean a duck or goose?
Do you know how to get clean water from a stream or river?
Do you know how to stay warm in the winter without shelter?
Do you know how to start a fire with no matches?
Maybe you have thoughts of these types of scenarios while we are in this pandemic pandemonium panic.
I don’t think this little virus blip on the world will bring about a huge revival in the USA… I so wish it would. But the one thing I do know that it will reveal is who can make their own oil.
HOLD ON… let me explain.
Our country is full of people who run all week on a few drops of oil barely coasting into Sunday mornings… and if they miss a Sunday morning… yikes!
Matthew 25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
Its not enough to just accept Christ once, you have to be able to fill your lamp or get left out of Gods presence. I will let your own theology define what that means.
But I do know this… you better be able to get your own oil.
So where you at not being able to go to church on Sundays or mens bible study etc… are you running low? Are you learning to fill up your lamp - are you as full and as hot as ever? Has it stirred you to push in more? I hope so.

Secret Sauce and 7 questions

What is your go to secret sauce?
Ketchup? Ranch? Horse radish? Maybe its your own secret sauce… mine is Horse radish, ranch and Ketchup…
John Wesley was so concerned with building a righteous fellowship that he devised a series of questions for his followers to ask each other every week. Some found this rigorous system of inquiry too demanding and left. Today, the very idea of such a procedure would horrify many churchgoers. Yet some wisely follow just such a practice. Chuck Swindoll for example, has seven questions that he and a group of fellow pastors challenge each other with periodically:
1. Have you been with a woman anywhere this past week that might be seen as compromising?
2. Have any of your financial dealings lacked integrity?
3. Have you exposed yourself to any sexually explicit material?
4. Have you spent adequate time in Bible study and prayer?
5. Have you given priority time to your family?
6. Have you fulfilled the mandates of your calling?
7. Have you just lied to me?
The questions are important, but i want to challenge you with the humility it would take to answer these honestly.
I saw a post on FB yesterday that said
2 Chron. 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Wicked = disagreeable.
The irony of this person post with this verse is that they are the ones who constantly post about politicians and hate. They have to constantly point out what the other party does wrong and why their leaders are disgusting liars etc…
Where is the humility? Everything you post is disagreeable -
Humility is “I am a sinner, no better than the President, the vice president, the KKK, the Democratic party, the Green Bay Packers, the thugs the rich, the fat, the ugly the spiteful and the guy who just cut me off… I am saved by grace.
Humility is loving others because we understand that its only his love that changes us… not our hate.
For God so hated the world that he pointed out everything that people do wrong.
Remember 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 4 Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. 5 It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured.
It takes humility to do this.
Life taste so much better with humility.

Mistake or Masterpiece

1504 He revealed his masterpiece.
It was supposed to adorn high up in the cathedral…
But the council decided the statue was much to much of a masterpiece and should be placed in the political heart of Florence, in Piazza della Signoria.
This council voted unanimously and for the record one of those on the council was the great Leonardo DaVinci.
On the day that he revealed it the town gathered around and when the veil was pulled people literally fainted in shock from how amazing it was….
Let me ask you a question: you ever had someone give up on you?
Have you ever felt like God has given up on you?
Here is what you don’t know…
This massive piece of marble was unearthed and was to be used in the cathedral of Florence. Nothing but raw potential in this hunk of 14 plus feet of marble… just waiting for the right person to come along and bring out its potential.
1464 by Agostino di Duccio and later carried on by Antonio Rossellino in 1475. Both sculptors had in the end rejected an enormous block of marble due to the presence of too many “taroli”, or imperfections,
It sat under a sheet for 25 years just hidden lying within the courtyard of the Opera del Duomo (Vestry Board). Ignored… just raw, hacked marble…
When The vestry board approached Michael he accepted heartily… but they told him who to sculpt. He must sculpt David. How many ways might you sculpt David? Killing Goliath, Running from Saul, Weeping over his dead son? Michael decided to sculpt David just before he takes on Goliath. He has taken off Sauls Armor and is standing with just his sling over his shoulder, he is relaxed but alert… he knows his mission.
Michael Angelo captures the most non paragraphical… and yet graphic pedestrian pose that it shocks people to this day.
When Michael Angelo chiseled out "David" it took him 2 years, but it took him 2 more years without the chisel to sand and polish it. When unveiled people gasped in marvel, people fainted!
Have you ever felt like you were ignored by God? Wait… he has perfect timing, You might feel like you have a huge hole in you and a big mistake was made and you will never be what you thought you could be… you might feel ignored by others they even make excuses up when talking about you out of pity… you may feel like God is just hacking away at you, chiseling painfully… and then the sanding…. when will it ever be over.
Phil. 1:6
6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Secret is in verse 5: 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
Gospel - Gods plan, don’t give upon Gods plan.

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
6 Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2 and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. 3 Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. 4 The Jewish Passover Festival was near.
5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7 Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”
8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
14 After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.” 15 Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.
Can you imagine the story this boy tells his mother when he gets home? How was your day, did you have enough to eat? It was great, I met Jesus, I fed over 5000 people with my lunch and I have a few extra baskets left over….
- the crowd was physically starving… but also spiritually starving as well. Jesus attended to their physical needs in order to continue to attend to their spiritual needs.
How much do you have to give?
V. 14 When you give God a little he blesses it and it becomes a witness to the world. Your blessing becomes a witness to the world!
- Jesus uses an insignificant boy… but this story is one of the only stories told in all 4 gospels.
* Insignificant boy
* Insignificant gift
* Insignificant place in society
Jesus takes the bread and makes it more than enough. What did Jesus say? I will give you life and life abundantly… more than enough life. Life eternal.
I wonder if this boy took his scraps home and continued to share them allowing the bread to continue to multiply.
We see the faith of a child. He knows this Jesus is Godly, some say he is the Messiah… he simply trusts him with all that he has.
Andrew points out the boy… think of that for a second.
- are you skipping that seems insignificant in your life
We see 4 solutions to this problem:
- Its not our problem… send them away.
- To much money (Money is not always the answer)
- The third solution was “lets just worry about who is most important” here is a boy who has enough for Jesus. Jesus will be glad that I thought of him (brownie points)
- Let’s take what we have, put it into Jesus hands and see what happens.
There is reason to believe that this boys mother packed the lunch for him to take to Jesus. And the boy comes to the disciples to give the food to Jesus.
*The boy could have sold it- a little entrepreneur make a quick turn around.
Practical:
1- When there is a need give what you have
2- When there is a need give all you can
3- Jesus in all 4 gospels gives thanks. Was it enough? No, but he thanked God the father for what he had in faith.
12 baskets left over = 12 is the symbol of perfection of totality.
He takes our little bit/not enough and makes it complete.
11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
The greek word… they were gorged.
Human nature kicked in and some people most likely took way more than they needed - Jesus did not have a problem with that.
I ask you today… what do you have to give?
Not just money - What time do you have to give
What talent
What ideas
What service
What gifting
What small step of faith might be that one bread crumb that multiples

All I need is some tasty waves a cool buzz and Im fine.
What are the 5 things you need to add to your life right now in order to have a more fulfilling life?
now you just made it more unfulfilling… the truth is you need to subtract and not add.
Reverse EQ’ing. Does it sound bad? Then take away what sounds bad, don’t add to the mix, it will only make it more loud, distracted and mushy.
What is it about humans that we feel when things are not as they should be we want to add stuff, things, ideas, relationships etc… when we get a much more powerful impact by subtracting.
The automotive industry for years tried to create a more powerful engine, but at one point had to step back and ask … how do we give this thing more power and greater gas mileage? By subtracting… cutting the weight back.
Typically, a 10 percent reduction in vehicle weight can lead to an 8 percent improvement in fuel economy.
A good friend of mine walked me through a pitch 15 years ago for a grant from a large corporation. He said, stick to one point, say very little and then don’t ask for questions let them ask you. He said he witnessed hundreds of people come into their corporate office (worth billions) and step up to speak on why they should have a grant… and he said most did well for the first 4 minutes, then they kept talking, kept adding most important points add naseum. He said they talked themselves out of the grant.
Jack Welch was asked how he turned around GE. He said I constantly cut back the lowest performing employees. This made the top performers that much better and more effective.
so what’s the point… the fact that you think you need more to have the best life is the wrong mindset- it sets you up for failure because you never have enough.
Better a little with the fear of the Lord
than great wealth with turmoil. Proverbs 15:16
Our culture teaches us that more is better. But when was the last time you saw a commercial that said do not buy this.
