I don’t really care how I look. It drives my wife crazy. One time I came down the stairs because we were going to the store… I had mustard colored shorts on, a green shirt, a brown plaid scarf and a baseball cap, I was unshowered and had about 4 days of beard on my mug… she took a picture of me and posted it on facebook saying “thats right ladies, he’s all mine”.
How does Jesus see you?
If your response was anything less than forgiven, righteous, Holy, blameless, gifted and as a man of God then you need a check up from the neck up.
Have you ever noticed people are better motivated living up to what you say they are rather than what you say they are not.
I will never forget the power of this moment in my own life. I was a chunky kid who went out for YMCA Basketball. I was not real good at it but each game and each practice I got better. My Coach Mr. Collins was a fantastic teacher. Well our team went to the championship game and we won! I played about 5 minutes in the whole game but was still ecstatic that we won. The very next morning I went out to play basketball in the neighborhood and as we were picking teams one of the boys said we want Garth he won the championship and he is really good. Then the other boys started fighting if you get Garth then we get these two guys to make it fair… I was a little stunned, but that was the day I played like a champion because people expected it of me.
God expects you to play life like a champion, because that is how he sees you.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
My Dad tells the story of when he was a young man an insurance claims guy came to the house because a Warren Heckman had been killed. My Dad said “I am Warren Heckman”. The guy turned pale white. Well of course it was a mistaken identity… There were 2 Warren Heckman’s. one was hot and the other cold.
How many of us are living with the wrong identity. I was once challenged with this thought years ago “what would the best Garth Heckman do”. I challenge you today with the almost exact same thought but I will rephrase it. What would the best Man of God do… thats you- so go do it!

What do you do when you are scared? wet your pants, run and hide, fight back, freeze, scream… you might be surprised at what the bible says… it says you sin!
Gen. 4:7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
Luke 22:31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”
34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”
Jesus even warned peter… but he didn’t listen he still sinned, why? Pride, arrogance, ego… men have these ever gotten the best of you? But the truth is he didn’t believe enough to be prepared for the attack.
1 PETER 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
Be alert and sober - GK = don’t be caught up in a fantasy that it won’t happen to you but rather be prepared with a plan.
Seeking whom he may devour.--Perhaps still more expressive to say, "seeking which he may devour." Satan is eyeing all the Christians in turn to see which he has the best chance of, not merely stalking forth vaguely to look for prey… but waiting to see which one is not ready for an attack.
What do I do when I get an attack by satan… usually it is in thought form. I have trained myself when a thought of bitterness, sexual temptation, Judgmental attitude - whatever - I have trained myself to pray immediately “Father thank you for victory over satan and thank you fro releasing your holy spirit on the lost so that they might know you and believe”.
WHY THIS PRAYER? BECAUSE IT GOES BEYOND A PRAYER OF DELIVERANCE… I HAVE ALREADY BEEN DELIVERED, IT GOES TO A PRAYER THAT IS ON THE OFFENSE, GOING AFTER SATANS TURF.
Are you ready for his attack? If not you should be… he’s coming.

Saying I love you brings out some amazing responses from people. your wife? Your kids? Your neighbor? Your boss? The police officer…
Everyone wants supernatural power in their walk with Christ.
I got it and I want more. My prayer has always been to do more than Jesus did… he said we would… so how?
ACTS 19:10This continued for two years, so that everyone who lived in the province of Asia, Jews and Greeks alike, heard the word of the Lord. 11God did extraordinary miracles through the hands of Paul, 12so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and the diseases and evil spirits left them.…
I prayed for a man who’s wife could not get pregnant, we prayed over a dish towel and I told I’m to put it on his wife’s stomach…
Lets look into part of his life.
Eph. 3:10-21
10 so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him. 13 Therefore I ask you not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, for they are your glory.
14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
Let me give you the cliff notes: Our purpose is to have power and authority over the rulers and authorities in heavenly places in order to get the mission of the church done, in order to get Jesus fame and evangelize the world.
We have this boldness and confidence through faith. We will be strengthened in our faith by understanding his love for us.
Seek to understand and know his love… it unfathomable but you always can get more… just now all of it.
The love allows us to do above and beyond what we can even think of when we understand his love.
1 Cor. 13:13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
You want power? Authority? Then you want more of Gods love… or I should say you want to experience more of his love.
You know when I am flying home from speaking and ask my wife to make my favorite dinner… I don’t have to have hope, or faith… because I know she loves me like crazy and I rest in that. Sure I ask in faith, but my assurance is in her love for me.

Fear of lisps?

What are you most afraid of? Spiders? Public speaking… people with lisps? Thats where were going today.
3. Xenophobia
Unfortunately, the fear of foreign people or backgrounds to one's self, community or citizenship actually made the list. Xenophobia can often result in aggression toward people of different races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations and more.
We really wish this wasn’t on the list.
2. Trypophobia
Defined as a pathological fear of objects with irregular patterns of holes, such as beehives, ant hills and lotus seed heads, trypophobia is a real thing. So real in fact, that 16% of people experience an uneasiness around hole patterns according to the Journal of Psychological Science.
Swiftly moving on to the number one fear…
1.Agoraphobia
Probably the most crippling of all phobias listed is a fear of wide, open spaces. People with agoraphobia often have a hard time feeling safe in any public place due to a lack of control.
What if you had Agrophobia and claustrophobia… your screwed.
Antinome - Definition: seemingly two opposing truths.
Luke 12:4 “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
You can just see the disciples… antsy… well do we fear you or not fear you?
What is Jesus trying to say here? Its honestly pretty simple. If you are right with God in your relationship with him - you have nothing to fear. If you are not in right standing in your relationship with God, then make it happen because until you do you are walking on spiritual landmines.
V.4 says some may come and kill you- don’t fear them. Fear the one who has a say after you are killed. Who is that? God the Father.
But its more than that. God has such incredible love for you right down to the numbered hairs on your head… he has such detail rich experiences in store for you if you are right with him… and why would he have it any other way… that if you are in right standing with him you need not fear anyone.
So the option is:
Don’t fear him and then fear everything… OR
Fear him and don’t fear anything.

Its gotta be the shoes!

Im that kind of guy who wears one pair of shoes for a long time. Black Doc Martin boots all winter long… Springtime its tennis shoes, summer its flip flops, fall its sneakers again, I think what I have learned is that Im slightly insane…I will tell you why in a second.
Matt, Bob, Luke, Danny, Austin, Jimmy, Anibal, Ej, Tim Terrence Thanks for the shout out and to those who did not like my podcast… thats ok as well.
WHAT DO YOUR Shoes say about you.
To spot a more agreeable person, look for affordable and practical shoes.
People wearing shoes with pointy toes, those that are obviously branded or expensive, mean the wearer is likely to be less agreeable.
Anxiously attached people tend to wear shoes that look brand new.
‘Anxiously attached’ is psychologist-talk for people who are needy.
Naturally, people with more money tend to wear more stylish shoes.
Women, in general, also tend to wear more expensive, branded shoes than men.
People wearing worn out shoes and/or high tops are more likely to be extraverted.
High-topped shoes are also linked to being more conscientious.
HOWEVER MISTAKES MADE WERE…
Colourful, bright shoes did not necessarily belong to extraverted people.
Attractive shoes in good condition did not necessarily belong to conscientious people.
Shabby shoes did not necessarily belong to a liberal!
James 2:1-5 My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?
V. 1 The Lord of glory. Remember its about giving God the attention. Not focusing on others… but on who God is.
V. 5 Poor - destitute of wealth, influence, position, honors; lowly, afflicted
You want to get places in this world? Look after those who seem least influential. Look for the least of these and not the best of these.
A story from my father who tells of a man who walked into a bank in Texas, soiled jeans, dirty hands, muddy boots and a greasy baseball cap. He walked out of the bank and the quickly returned forgetting to get his parking voucher stamped so he did not have to pay for parking. The teller that had helped him had just went on break and it new teller was in his place. the new teller did not believe he was a customer and refused to validate his ticket and even threatened to call the police. The man pulled out his license and demanded to have his bank account liquidated and a check cut. The teller looked at his account and saw that he had millions in his account. Long story short the man walked across the street to a new bank and the teller was fired on the spot.
Everyone has found first impressions and judgements to be misleading. But why do we still do it? Its easier to judge then it is to take time to get to know.
In todays world we need a lot less judgement and a lot more getting to know each other.

All lives matter? Really?
Friday Jun 05, 2020

webstix.com Tony Herman - the coolest cat on the net
Lets be honest… many of us are a little worn out over the racism talk, the COVID 19 and the political climate we are in… And there is such a thing as empathy emission… where we just run out of the ability to really care… If that’s you - you may not want to listen to todays podcast.
This is not about me sharing my opinion - I am just trying to peek into what Scripture is saying about the times we live in.
Black lives matter… All lives Matter… Blue lives matter…
But really what does it matter.
I am hesitant to podcast on this because so much of todays social media is just clickbait, drivel, hatred, or misinformed skewed media. Everyone has an emotional bend and personality that also adds to the blurred lines of understanding this.
And I also want to say that you can have a problem with looters, racists, bad cops, democrats, republicans, Millenials and out of touch old white people of privilege like me… But you still have to love them according to scripture.
Finally, if you do not have a vibrant alive life changing relationships with Jesus… than I can only expect from you what your human nature and life experience has taught you… you have a pass from me in that you have no real power or spiritual compass as which to live by… and you are doing what comes naturally to a person with out the hope - W/O the Hope of Christ shining brightly in you.
Also in and through all this…
You can change your mind, you can not know what to think and you don’t have to figure it out… But you do have to keep thinking.
And you can live in podunk blue banner USA and be like I have no idea and I cannot relate. I am not racist and I love everyone… but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of the solution.
You don’t get to brush the whole mess or narrative with one giant stroke.
There is only one playbook for these types of situations… The bible.
SO im stay biblical brothers!
Lets jump in…
Do black lives matter? Yes… do they matter more than other lives… YES. Let me explain… every life matters but there are times when we need to take up the cause of others for such a time as this.
Matthew 18:10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. [11] [a]
12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.
Does God love the 99? Yes, But he stops and puts greater energy and focus on the one that is lost. There is a time to take up the cause of others and love them in spite of your own agenda.
In light of todays heated climate I choose to focus on the one who in turn represents many.
People are going to bring up all types of scenarios… George Floyd had a long criminal and somewhat violent record… yes he did, He was on drugs the time… yes he was, and there is even evidence that he had drugs on him at the time… He was trying to pass off a fake $20 bill… indeed.
BUT THIS DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE FACT THAT HE WAS ABUSED AND TREATED WITH AN EVIL INTENT BY THE HANDS OF THOSE WHO ARE TO PROTECT US… EVEN FROM OURSELVES.
People will bring up white privilege - Yep I have experienced that. I lived and worked in
Inner city Chicago, Seatac, Oak cliff Dallas.
My Youth group kids were treated with hate, My roommate was treated with hate…
But with all these scenarios and tags…
We lose sight of the real problem.
George Floyd died at the hands of a bad cop… a knee on the neck of a 42 year old man. What if he was a 4 year old black boy?
What if he was a 4 week old black baby?
What if it was a black baby 4 weeks in the womb?
Pastor Clenard Howard Childress Jr has stated that the most dangerous place for african americans is in the womb. Planned Parenthood targets the black community.
1,786 black abortions a day, over 56% of all abortions are African American babies…
You hear crickets…
In Chicago this year over 1003 people have been shot, and over 200 have been killed… mostly black on black crime.
But put those 200 people in a middle school, and the world would fall a part at the seams.
What am I trying to say?
What is the point Garth…
It’s a heart problem… It is a sin problem not a black and white or Racial problem… Hundreds of scenarios pass by us daily but they have no impact, no buzz, no emotional clamor and baggage… Because they don’t play to the narrative at hand.
But…
We as humans are born powerless to change the world and others with an eternal change… until we have a relationship with Christ.
WE WERE CREATED TO CHANGE LIVES ETERNALLY…
When we do not have that relationship with God we use other types of things to feel powerful.
It is in our DNA to see others change and to see others “Born again” Or Redeemed. But when we do not have the power to do it (The spiritual power) we see the need and then out of frustration and lack of ability we lash out, we hate, we scream in anger, we protest, we riot, we loot, we start programs and picket lines and stand ins and marches…
But you cannot mandate or vote spiritual change. You cannot riot to bring about spiritual change, You cannot loot, shoot or boot out politicians to bring about spiritual change.
Unless God has changed your heart and rules your life… you can’t really change anyone else or anything else.
It starts with you. Are you seeking Gods way for your life daily?
And once God rules your life then you must be out…
Unless you are out actively changing peoples lives with the gospel, changing the culture with the gospel… changing eternity with the gospel… then anything you do outside of that is wasting time - you are wasting your time.
Eph. 6 says we do not wage war against the flesh and blood, but rather rulers, against the authorities against the powers of the dark world against the spiritual evil in heavenly realms?
Do you think the rulers, authorities, the powers of the dark world and the evil realms give a flying leap about protests? Riots? Another sermon? A peace walk, a march a sign, a black out day? NO THEY ARE LAUGHING AND WINNING - until we hit our knees and seek God for a revival that crushes sin and brings people to repentance.
Gal. 3:28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
This means we love everyone…
God created us all, we all the have same value in Gods eyes.
Quit thinking this is a race problem… that is like saying abortion is a medical problem.
Evil is in this world because of sin.
Injustice is in this world because of sin.
Racism, pornography, abortion, sex trafficking - pick your poison… it is a sin problem.
You can blame the flesh and blood thats out there
You can blame the flesh and blood that is black, white, republican, democrat… the flesh and blood have lots of coverings- but until you deal with the spiritual forces behind the flesh and blood you are simply the pawn that satan wants you to play.
I kneel daily and fight in the heavenly realms everyday for all flesh and blood. DO YOU?

Won't you be my neighbor

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Galatians 5:14)
Luke 10:25-37
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
In Jesus’ commandment, He taught us that it is not about asking who our neighbor is. Rather, it is about our own willingness to
- be a neighbor ready to love.
- It is obvious in the parable of the Good Samaritan that our neighbor can even be a complete stranger
- someone who we can expect nothing from in return.
- being a neighbor to everyone,
- and most importantly it is about us being that good neighbor. It starts with ourselves.
HOW?
Love them the way you want to be loved! Meaning… find out how they want to be loved, encouraged, supported,
And isn’t that the hardest part? Taking time and being vulnerable to get to know those we don’t know. Those we have nothing in common with.

He had it all and... POOF!

2 Samuel 12:5 David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die! 6 He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.”
7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are that man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. 9 Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. 10 Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’
He wasn’t doing what he was supposed to be doing: Honor your wife, go to work, work hard, spend time with your kids, go to church, get involved in ministry, read and pray and obey.
He looked too long.
He acted on his his mindset… his mindset was from what he looked at. What your focus is on is what your future is on.
He did not repent but rather tried to cover his sins.
He covered his sin with more sin.
He tried to make it right without repentance (he marry’s her)
But here is the point… we all have struggles, hard times, ups and downs… but in most mens lives there comes a time when everything aligns… LIFE IS GOOD!
AT THAT VERY MOMENT YOU MUST RECOGNIZE YOUR PROPENSITY FOR SIN IS AT ITS GREATEST.
Have you stopped at all for a minute and wondered if the officer who had his knee on the neck of George Floyd has had the same thought at King David… If I had only… If I had only not done that.
Think of the dominoes that tipped on King Davids life… sheer chaos. Family strife, rape, murder, betrayal, for generations.
AND THIS DECISION WAS MADE AT THE HEIGHT OF HIS CAREER AND LEGACY.
You must recognize Gods favor is many times recognized by satan as the red carpet the devil is waiting for to saunter up and offer you the most delicious sin available. To press the easy button on your temptation list…
So you are the king, invincible and untouchable… full of victory and Gods favor…. Oh and you like naked wet women with huge breasts and her husband is not home and you have all the power to make it happen…. Here is the easy button.
And it’s over - everything is gone, poof, like a fart in the wind!
2 Cor. 10:3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.
Wuest: We order up our choices before we ever get tempted.
I will be honest, I have a few friends that I have thought I would love to be in there footsteps. They pastor large churches that are growing, they have amazing worship, they get to preach and teach and lead a very young and on fire staff. They use state of the art equipment and technology and they get paid really really well. They have amazing marriages and to be honest their wives are easy on the eyes… and they walked off with their aerobic instructor and threw it all away.
Again being honest I have said “I would have never blown that lead”. But unless I am ordering up my choices and my steps… unless I understand that it starts in my mind when everything is going good… I am the first one to be fooled regarding my own life.

Is God all powerful? Yes. But it’s not faith in Gods power that gets things done, it’s faith in who God is.
Today you may hear a prayer or a sermon that says “God is able”. Sounds so good and righteous… but God is more than able! The old Testament says God is gracious!
The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful.
But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,
What does Gracious mean? It means he yearns to hear you…Why? So he can move on your behalf. He leans in to hear you, he is stretching out to take you into his presence.
You see we have a problem and think the lord is willing… when the truth is that the Lord WANTS TO. Not just willing, he really wants to meet our needs, he is leaning in listening and wants to help us. But when we put our faith in his power (which isn’t even biblical) but rather put our faith in his love- that is when our faith is activiated. God is Love - the bible never says God is power. Yes he is all powerful - but that is not why he wants to move on our behalf.
Many of you have heard me say “We don’t have a sin problem we have a knowing God problem”. And the truth is that can be said about a few things… including we don’t have a belief in Gods power Problem, we have a belief in how much God loves us - once you get that your faith will be deeper and more powerful than ever.

A lot of people are Christians and their Xy does not work… why?
D said it best= I am found innocent before God. I am fully committed to Christ and his cause. There is no pet sin, there is no religious or rule base in my walk.
We as men of God shift the atmosphere and live a REAL Xn walk.
