A person of character will do the right thing even if no one else is. Not because they think it will change the world but because they refuse to be changed by the world.
The surest way to reveal one’s character is not through adversity but by giving them power, money or time alone to themselves!
Potential is a dangerous word. It means we haven’t done anything yet. Roman Harper of the NFL saints.
Have you reached the potential of your character? Of course not… but have you been seriously pushing to do just that? Probably not.
Character - Charas = Grace, acter = actions! Act in grace
Grace is Gods favor, his power to be who you were created to be!
Our Character should be based on our daily walk in Gods grace. We sometimes want the benefits and the reputation of one with great character, but we want it out of our merits and out of our actions rather than by Gods grace in our lives. And isn’t that the problem today - everyone wants Gods power for their lives, but they don’t want his character, his grace… the fight for it, the intimacy that brings it.
But we live in a world where parents reward talent over character. Look where that has gotten us…
and once you start to build some character remember this…
"Character is much easier kept than recovered.”
A man asked a woman would you sleep with me for a million dollars? She said yes. He said what about for a 100 dollars. She said what do you think I am? He said “Mam what you are has already been established, I m just trying to find your price.

If your happy and you know it...

I just want to be happy… Most people don’t learn this, and if they do they learn it too late in life.
In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon discusses ten vanities—ten things that are “meaningless” when considered from the limited point of view of “under the sun.” Without God, human wisdom is meaningless (2:14–16); labor (2:18–23); amassing things (2:26); life itself (3:18–22); competition (4:4); selfish overwork (4:7–8); power and authority (4:16); greed (5:10); wealth and accolades (6:1–2); and perfunctory religion (8:10–14).
When Solomon says, “Everything is meaningless,” he did not mean that everything in the world is of zero value. Rather, his point is that all human efforts apart from God’s will are meaningless. Solomon had it all, and he had tried everything, but when he left God out of the equation, nothing satisfied him. There is purpose in life, and it is found in knowing God and keeping His commands. That’s why Solomon ends his book this way:
“Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind” (Ecclesiastes 12:13
Solomon in all of his writings in scripture speaks of something we today would call…
Multi dimensional living. There are three primary components of an exceptional life:
relationships: Family, faith and yourself
health: Do you have the energy to meet the requirements in your relationships?
and purpose. Purpose has nothing to do with things, achievements, accolades, acclaim… it is totally focused on one thing… are you doing what you were created to do? And it does not have to come through your job, it might come through your church or hobby. But it is best served with and through your faith.
Most people focus on only one of these.
Dominate the middle ground… give all a priority.
The 5 happiness traps are: By Dan Baker but also seen in scripture from Solomon.
-1 trying to buy it,
- 2 trying to find it in pleasure,
- 3 by trying to resolve the past, (Fix relationships, find out why people did you wrong, always asking God why…)
- 4 by trying to over come weakness,
- 5 trying to force it.

Whats it going to take to be remembered?

Here is an awkward question. What is the best way to make sure people miss you when you die?
Be famous, popular, rich, related, giving, intelligent, poetic, empowered, to be president, to be loving…
WRONG!
Hebrews 6:10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
And the King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’
Deserve comes from two latin words. De – from, Serve- I have what I have from serving others.
God remembers us best when we serve. Others will remember us best by how we served them in the name of Christ.
What do you want to be remembered for? Hopefully for serving God.
But how long do you want people to remember you?… that answer lies in how great of a servant you were to this world.
A missionary preached in a remote, poverty ridden area in west Africa. He
appealed for support of Christian work throughout the area and encouraged
those present to give what they could toward the construction of a building
which would serve as a medical clinic and a place of worship. Approximately
two hours after the worship service, a young woman came to the missionary
and presented him with $40 to be used for the building project. The
missionary was stunned. Where on earth, he thought, did this woman come up
with such a large sum of money in a region afflicted by painfully forbidding
circumstances? Confounded, he posed this question as politely as he knew
how. He was informed that she had gone to a wealthy planter and sold herself
into his service for the rest of her life. Let us be clear about what I have
just told you. She had sold herself into the service of a landowner. And
why? This was her way of giving herself into the service of Jesus Christ.
Not partially, but totally. That sounds like a radical price to pay doesn't
it? However, We still today tell this story about the woman and nothing is mentioned of the rich land owner… Her service has made an eternal impact and a forever memory on thousands… the land owner may have made thousands… but his memory is distant.
He who lives only to benefit himself confers on the world a benefit when he dies. Tertullian

Its not about the Card
Choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
"Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season" (Hebrews 11:25).
"There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death" (Proverbs 14:12).
Sin seems easy to get away with
Sin seems like a great choice and it feels great
Sin seems like it will never catch up to you
But would you believe you can’t see what is really going on?

2 Cor.12:9
But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.
More than enough: beyond satisfied!
More than enough… not just in your strengths, but in your weakness.
Not more than enough in my wants, desires or appetites… but where God can specifically be made known - people used to say Wow, he was an arrogant jerk… what happened? Now he is so humble and giving and a servant. Gods grace is evident.
Its like when I was in the hospital with liver surgery… It was painful… but the morphine made it easy.
I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much without the pain.

How does one become a janitor?

In the movie the breakfast club Tough guy John Bender asks the janitor carl “Carl, how does one become a janitor… Carl reply’s “oh you want to be a janitor… no no I just want to know how one becomes a janitor… you see Andrew here has an interest in the custodial arts…
Well Carl schools them with his answer - but honestly Bender was on to something…
Carl the janitor in real life went to that high school.
So Bender has a question for you all today. How does one become a disciple of Jesus?
Men if you do not have a planned spiritual growth path in place then you are not growing. If you are not growing you are not leading and if you are not leading then you are following when you are following you are at the mercy of whomever is leading. Garth Heckman
Here is how you change your immediate mindset… lets say you have been on autopilot and you just kind of have been coasting… No real plan.
All one needs to do is look at what you have learned along the way. How has God still used your life to teach you things to do and things to not do. Then ask yourself how you wish you would have been prepared for life up to this point.
NOW… devise a plan. How do you prepare… when will you read, how long, what will you read, when will you pray, how long will you pray, How will you remember what you read, who will you share it with. Who will you be accountable to?
Then as soon as you start this plan ask God to show you the benefit. Some may call it an easy win, or an easy A. It is simply a way the Holy Spirit can encourage you to move forward in your life and begin to see how it feels to be discipled.
I have a friend and her big starting move after pushing into her discipleship plan was seemingly simple to me and maybe you, but it was a huge step to her. She was riding home from work on the bus, she knew most of the people because so many rode the same bus home on the same route… as she got up to get off she stopped and thought this is it… Im doing it. She turned to the people on the bus and said have a great night and Jesus loves you… and she jumped off the bus as fast as she could. The next morning she got on the bus and a woman told her how much that meant to her last night and she really needed to hear it. Another man came up and told her his son has been dealing with some issues and he was feeling like God had forgotten him… and said when you told us last night that Jesus loved - well it was like a light went on and God stirred my heart.
LISTEN that might seem like nothing to you, or maybe you are where she is at, the point is it was a simple win in the middle of her quest to disciple herself.

You can only choose one

You can only choose one… build you case as to why you choose what you choose.
Time
Money
Energy
The Dean of a college During a staff meeting is visited by an angel and he says you have done an amazing job touching the lives of young people. I am here to offer you unlimited wisdom or unlimited money. the Dean thought for a moment and said “unlimited wisdom”. Poof it is yours. The dean immediately looks smarter… the board all lean in waiting for him to say something incredibly intelligent… waiting waiting… Finally someone says “Well enlighten us…”. with that the dean says “I should have taken the money”.
Now if you think you need more money I would guess it is because you have never had enough or you currently are in great financial need. But the truth is- money is not your answer. If is was, the all the rich people would have it made… look around- they don’t.
Time? I don’t have as much time as you…Not true, you have the same exact amount. What you do have is to much on your plate.
What you do practice is wasting time on TV, computer, porn, Youtube,
What you don’t have is a plan in place to use your time as best you can…
They say we only use 5% of our brain, but we better learn how to best use a 100% of our time…
AND HOW DO YOU DO THAT?…. HOLD ON.
You can’t make more time…
I will not always spend time on money
I will not always spend Money on time
I will not always spend energy on time
I will not always spend energy on money
I will spend time on Energy
I will spend money on Energy
What do I mean? Whatever I can do to create more energy in my life I will do!
I will use my time better if I have more energy
I will use my money better if I have more energy
How do I build up my energy stores.
Well first you have to realize you have 3 energy cells in your life: Spiritual, mental and emotional.
I have talked to some degree on all of these, but lets take a crash course in how to build energy in these areas.
Physical - I will spend time and money to build my physical energy. Gym membership, healthy foods and snacks, supplements, mark out time on my calendar and spend my time wisely on my body.
Spiritual - I will spend time and money to build my spiritual energy. I will buy a new bible, go to a conference, show up for an extra class at church, make daily time to read and pray, I will journal my prayers etc…
here is the final foundational thought to this: You get very little return saving time for times sake, you get very little return on hoarding money for money sake. However if you have energy… then you can make the most out of time and money. If you have no energy than more time and money is simply wasted

California: You played for the 49’ers… Denver… San Diego…
3 questions today:
Who are you known as?
Who do you want to be known as?
Who should you be known as?
Luke 4:40At sunset, all who were ill with various diseases were brought to Jesus, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them. 41Demons also came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But He rebuked the demons and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ. 42At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place, and the crowds were looking for Him. They came to Him and tried to keep Him from leaving.…
It would have been odd if the demons came out and said you are Jesus the son of Mary and Joseph… or even more weird - you are Jesus the carpenter.
Maybe even You are Jesus most powerful man.
OR weirder yet, they got confused…. I know you, you are the guy works at the Ice cream shop, No your the guy who teaches yoga… maybe its the guy who plays bass for the techno group.
But they called him out and knew who he really was- He was Jesus the Messiah. That was his calling, his role, his existence, his meaning, his life, his goal, His purpose, his identity.
What is your calling? OR should I ask it in simpler terms… what are people calling you? And does it identify your purpose as a man of God?
Who does Jesus say you are?
He says you are justified
He says you are complete
He says you are healed
He says you are his masterpiece
He says you are a new creation
he says you are a royal priesthood
He says you heal the blind, deaf and dumb
He says you cast out demons
he says you preach the gospel to all the nations
He says you baptize and disciple
he says You reign
he says you fear nothing in his perfect love

Make the comparison

The one thing a man hates…
A woman with boy legs?
Man boobys?
Lose a job?
Another man has a better home, car or job?
NOPE… so what does a man truly hate more than anything?
A man hates comparisons.
You don’t work as hard as Tiffany’s husband.
You are not as smart…
He could beat you up…
My old boyfriend used to take me out 3 times a week
What is worse…
You don’t kiss very good
OR
My ex kisses a lot better than you.
- You can’t fix anything around the house
OR
- My dad can fix anything and you can’t fix one thing
I wish you made more money
OR
Sara’s husband makes so much more money than you
Negative speech is an open wound, but comparison is the salt in the wound.
I would hate to be around someone who is always comparing my losses, my inabilities, my flaws to those around me that are so much better.
Ok, but what is today about? The person who is the worst at this? IS YOU! You compare yourself to everyone around you. Your small voice in the back of your head, it doubts you, it compares you, it sees the negative, it lies to you… it is worse than any other person in your life.
AND MAYBE YOU ALSO HAVE THE VOICES OF YOUR PARENTS IN THERE… OR EVEN A SPOUSE…
It is imperative that you compare yourself to scripture and what it says about you. This is a common theme in my podcasts but it is because I am constantly amazed at how many men know this and how few of them do it.
Look here is a great exercise for you to do every day.
YOU - YES YOU make a list of just 3 things you do well
Then make a list of 3 things you respect about yourself
Then make a list of 3 things The bible says you are.
Here is my list for the day:
What I do well- I don’t give up easily, I can talk to just about anybody, I share my faith easily,
The things I respect about me: I have never given up on my marriage (and it has not always been easy) I have always loved my boys physically, verbally and emotionally, I am willing to work as hard and as long as it takes to pay the bills,
Three things the bible says about me:
The bible says i will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover
The Bible says I am loved unconditionally and not by works
The Bible says he has given his angels charge over me and I will not even stub my toe.
If you have no one in your life to speak these things into your life… then you must be the one to reframe your life daily and transform your mind.
BE YE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND. Romans 12:2
Who is responsible for that? YOU ARE!
