Dealing with Jesus as a teenager… you know most teenagers always think they are right- well in the case of Jesus… uh yeah he was always right. AND YOU THOUGHT YOUR KIDS WERE HARD TO RAISE!
Luke 2:52 52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
Adolescents are social by their very nature. It is during the teenage years that their social lives begin to blossom and develop, often becoming the most important area of their lives.
IF YOU REJECT THIER FRIENDS YOU ARE IN A SENSE REJECTING THEM… DO THEY HAVE BAD FRIENDS? USE THEM AS DISCUSSION TOPICS WITH YOUR KIDS… LET THEM DECIDE AND JUDGE THEIR OWN FRIENDS.
The need for acceptance and belonging CRUCIAL… IT drives some young people into compromise. sometimes Kids can view compromise as worth it if it means acceptance.
They are not just changing physically but also emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Emotionally - roller coaster. Their emotions will be like the weather except the weather will be more predictable. That is their brain rewiring. What is most important during this time is that you don’t get emotional… You stay constant in your views on curfew, drugs, drinking, dating, sex, church attendance and school grades etc… You love them and stay stable, you stay calm and give them space… but you do not change your stance due to their emotional highjacking of a situation.
mentally - starting to challenge right and wrong and black and white. Make them a part of your decisions at work, things at home with finances, vacations, ask them their advice about married couples you know who are having problems. Many times they challenge you because they have no other challenges to work through.
Spiritually - they can question God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and if there is a different religion or belief system out there that is better.
(your example is the best defense… they live right under your roof. Not under the muslims roof, or the secular persons roof… but your roof - show them Jesus is the way by how you live and love each other)

If you are going to fish you use worms or minnows
If you are hunting deer you use salt blocks, apples etc…
If you are Trapping fox, wolves etc… you use snared live bait
If you are duck hunting you use a blind and a duck call…
But if I am hunting you… what do I use?
You are under attack…
Level 1 know what is at stake: Gods best for you, his perfect will! For you to make an eternal difference in this world.
Level 2 of spiritual warfare… know how to defeat you. (what are your weaknesses?)
Level 3 know that no attack might be satan’s best attack… you just float through life, no real ups no real downs… and most likely because you are not trying to live up to your full Godly potential… but once you start- watch out.
Level 4 you know how to be prepared and how to stand the attack.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour.
*this is saying have a plan and be ready to be attacked!
DO YOU HAVE A PLAN?
Eph. 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Scheme: a predetermined proven method of trickery or evil to mess you up.
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Arrows - missiles - specific targets for your specific weakness’s.
If I were satan how would I try you?
So here is what we learn from asking ourselves that question.
- My weakness: arrogance, stubbornness, over protecting those I love, lack of patience,
DON’T TEST ME ON DRUGS, PORN, MONEY, POWER ETC… These are not my weaknesses.
- My missiles would hit my marriage (having to always be right) they would attack my ministry by preaching and treating people harshly with out compassion (due to a lack of patience), You would attack my family relationships and want me to give up caring about some people in my family… because I am arrogant and know I am right… and I just might be right… but the attitude is still wrong.
- My plan: Ask my friends and my family to call me on these issues. My great friend Scott about 2 years ago on a cycle ride pulled me to the side one night and corrected me on my attitude… I have asked him to do that because I trust him. My other great friend Elijah has quite a few times called me on my chippy attitude and pointed out a lack of patience in relationships.
Finally ask my family (especially my wife and my father and yes sometimes my boys) to get into my business.
- Finally ask yourself am I deceived? And ask your team… am I deceived?
- Daily ask God to reveal to you your foibles!

We had a permit to carry class this past week at our church… I put up a picture and then commented that we led 21 people to Christ at the event. The post blew up with mostly negative comments. Why no social distancing… why a gun class- Jesus wouldn’t carry a gun or kill someone, why no masks, I am spreading COVID…
I have some patience for those who do not know Christ… and there are many who call themselves Christians… but they actually do not have a relationship with God.
Matthew 12 - how to tick off religious people/pharisees
Jesus asks the Pharisees is it right to heal a man on the Sabbath… but the Pharisees are so determined to be right, that they forget to be righteous…
You are so full of what's right, you can't see what's good. Joseph Fletcher - this quote reminds me of what dad used to say, you can be 100% right and dead wrong at the same time! (The Pharisees lived this)
all the time and effort we spend fighting to not share Christ…
I really want to know of those who were so critical… why don’t you share Christ… I know all of you, I know your lifestyle… why don’t you share Jesus?
Jesus said that when one sinner comes to Christ the angels rejoice…
The angels rejoice in scripture over 2 things: Jesus/God the father and when a sinner comes to Christ.
They don’t rejoice when you correct the sinner or the saint
They don’t rejoice when you point out opinion
They don’t rejoice when someone does not stay 6 feet a part
They do not rejoice when you wear a face mask
They do not rejoice at your FB post about how irresponsible a person is
THEY REJOICE OVER SINNERS COMING TO CHRIST.
That is where I am going to focus my time and energy.
What was most striking about my post is that those who were negative are the ones who do not share Christ at all… nothing, nada, zilch, zero,
Someday we will stand before Christ… and he is going to judge our lives and how we lived according to his mission:
His mission? Go into all the world and preach the gospel, baptizing people in my name, heal the sick, lame blind deaf…
ALL I KNOW IS I WILL HAVE NO EXCUSES TO BACK ME UP… JUST MY LIFESTYLE.
2 days ago in the gym I prayed for a young man paralyzed from the waist down… I wish I could say he got up and walked… he didn’t but I am still praying and believing… to those who posted negative comments… I dare you to start living the gospel before you laud your opinion.
Enough with the excuses “I live my life and let my life do the talking”…
That doesn’t cut it… Jesus said GO, preach, gospel, in the world
GO - immediacy
Preach - you gotta open your mouth
Gospel - we are all sinners heading to hell without Jesus forgiveness
The World - its a mean, nasty, bad, evil place… but we still GO- we don’t wait for the easy access pass to share the gospel.
Those who don’t share Christ… your opinion means nothing to me. You anger me the way Christ was angered with the Pharisees pious behavior. WHY? because people are going to hell. people are living daily with hopelessness and hatred and emptiness… and you have the cure!
Its not some can and some can’t… it’s simply some will and some won’t.

The Purpose
People with a God given purpose don’t have time for drama
People with a God given purpose Don’t waste time posting drivel on social media
People with a God given purpose Don’t worry about looking good to the world
People with a God given purpose Don’t spend much time with those who don’t have a God given purpose for their lives
People with a God given purpose in their life realize it is 90% about serving then being served that accomplishes this purpose
People with a God given purpose look unbalanced and unhealthy… when in reality “normal” people have no God given purpose
People with a God given purpose are choosing at times seemingly outrageous challenges and impossible odds.
People with a God given purpose feel it a necessity to achieve this purpose at any cost
People with a God given purpose care more about others wounds then their wins
When it comes to Gods given purpose… it’s not that some have it and some don’t. Rather some will do it and others simply won’t.

Patience
Noah 120 years…. he heard the voice and stayed intimate for 120 years.
Did not fail under peer pressure from people
Did not fail under circumstances… never saw rain.
Did not fail under work load, building and animal gathering.
He had to stay intimate because he was working on an ark… Gods plan, he didn’t know how to build an ark… he didn’t know what it even was….
When you are working for God it is easy to keep going a. you have to continually be listening for his voice…
Secondly its bigger than you realize peoples lives are at stake
DO YOU HAVE THAT TYPE OF MISSION IN YOUR LIFE… IT KEEPS YOU INTIMATE WITH GOD - YOU REALIZE LIVES ARE AT STAKE?

Abishai was said to kill 300 men with one spear, while Benaiah was credited for killing two of Moab’s elite, a lion, and an Egyptian with his own weapon. Clearly, the message here was “Don’t Mess With Israel.”
David -Goliath, The most badass thing David ever did? The fact that on numerous ocassions he could have killed Saul, but didn’t. And he let the king KNOW IT.
#1 – Samson – One of the most renouned he-man of the Bible. He’s one of the oddest heroes of the Old Testament. Despite being raised as a Nazarite (that is, he couldn’t booze, eat bacon, or shave), the guy was a notorious womanizer, slept with whores, and had pretty much smashed everything he touched. He’s a favorite in Sunday School because of his sheer badassery, yet I’m certain that most Christian parents wouldn’t want their kids to grow up like him. Observe:
- Samson comes face to face with a lion and rips it apart like “he might have torn a young goat.” Frankly, I didn’t even know you could tear apart a goat with your bare hands.
But it was the way he went out… take me and Gods enemies!
Hands down the most BA man in the Bible the Apostle Paul… not so much for what he did - and yes he did a lot. But more for what he went through - and never stopped the intensity of sharing the gospel.
1 Cor. 11:23 ….in labors more abundant, in stripes above
measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often.
24 From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one.
25 Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I
was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;
26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in
the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in
fastings often, in cold and nakedness --
I have my own personal list of BAD ASSESS
Scott - gives gives gives
Pradeepan - a life of faith, shares Christ constantly
Tom S. - divorce, Dnom turns its back on him, he goes for it
Tom A. - casts out demons, preaches fire, faith the size of mountains
Dad - gotten attacked, maligned, gossiped about… never struck back, never spoke a bad word about those men.

IF YOU ARE LUCKY YOU CAN REMEMBER A FEW THINGS YOU LEARNED IN HIGH SCHOOL… BUT PROBABLY NOT AS MUCH AS YOU THINK.
Stephen Glenn shares a story about a friend and colleague of his (Morton Adler) who for years tested Sr. High students who had recently graduated from high school. He gave them the same exams that they had taken 6 weeks previous. Only one out of nine could pass them. His conclusion was that our education system has taught kids how to binge and purge information, but we have failed at teaching them how to learn. They have learned to beat the system, not to learn what is important. Scientists report that noise has a definite effect on our working efficiency Noise increases the pulse, quickens the blood pressure, and upsets the normal rhythm of the heart Spiritual noise has just as bad an effect on spiritual life The man who is occupied with the things that keep him from hearing the voice of God in his heart is spiritually frustrated It is impossible for those who are spiritually noisy to have true peace of mind, peace of heart, and peace of soul! This is why God has said, "Be still, and know that I am God..." (Psalms 46:10)

ARE YOU READING PRAYING AND OBEYING?
Obeying… doing what he is asking you to do? That is the fun part of walking with Christ.
"When people are not happy doing what they do, they don't do it as well as when they are happy."-Tom Landry, football coach
If your walk is boring… listen for Gods voice and do what you think he is telling you to do.
The biggest obstacle… what if I thought I heard Gods voice and I didn’t?
So what? You fail, you laugh, you learn. I fail all the time. I constantly ask people questions like “hey does the name Charice mean anything to you?
Hey is your left leg hurting?
Hey did you recently have something hit you hard at home with your husband?
If you learn to celebrate effort and not just victory, then life can be a blast!
Again, want to make your Christian walk more exciting? Listen and step out… fail and laugh, fail and learn and of course step out and hit the mark in the process!
