Happiness vs. Fulfillment
Fulfillment is internal
Happiness is external
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good (other things that are a prosperous journey) as long as they live;
Good HB = Find the things in life that make you happy.
6 happiness practices
1. Count your blessings… Appreciation is the first and most powerful tool at being happy. Can you learn to appreciate.
2. Choice, it is the father of freedom and the voice of choice. Having no choices leads to depression loneliness and ultimately learned helplessness. Like I have always said - there are 2 doors in life, one is marked freedom and one is marked security. most people choose security and than wonder why there never feel free.
3. Personal power. This is the most indefinable proactive force similar to character that gives you power over your feeling and over fate. Personal power has two components a. taking personal responsibility
b. taking action.
You are were you have led yourself to be. Don’t like your life, choose to take responsibility and then take action to change it.
What is blame? it is basically pointing your finger at someone and saying “there in charge”. YOU BE IN CHARGE FOR A WHILE>
4. Lead with your strengths. Most people when pressured focus on their weakness, which cycles out of control.
I would spend as little time on my weaknesses as possible. Strengths are what push you the most, challenge you to greater heights and pay off the most in the long run.
5. The power of language and stories. We don’t describe the world we see, we see the world we describe. Language as the single most fundamental force of the human intellect has the power to alter perception. We think in words and these words have the power to limit us or to set us free. They can frighten us or evoke our courage. Similarly the stories we tell ourselves eventually become our life. We can tell healthy or horror stores the choice is ours.
Tell your story with meaning… why it is all gong to work out!
6. Multi dimensional living. There are three primary components of life relationships health and purpose. Most people focus on only one of these.
… and the other 2 sabotage the one they focus on. Focus on all 3.
And when I say relationships the first one is with God.
As Dan Baker once said: The 5 happiness traps are: trying to buy it, trying to find it in pleasure, by trying to resolve the past, by trying to over come weakness, trying to force it. “what happy people know, by Dan Baker PHD

I HAVE LOVED LIFTING WEIGHTS MY WHOLE LIFE…
AS A MIDDLE SCHOOLER… POSING IN MY TRUNKS
KITCHEN… SOMEONE KNOCKS ON THE DOOR
Have you ever had someone come over and you did not want to let them in because of the way your house looked? OR what you had on?
FIRST TIME I SAW MY WIFE WITH NO MAKE UP…
Revelations 3:19
Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent. 20Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.
*I thought Jesus could open any door? Thats what the worship song says?
To eat with us is a simple yet profound statement: I want to be a part of your family, your life, your rituals.
*You know when you go to someones house unannounced and walk in… you get the real scoop!
Some of us want to have a relationship with Jesus through the window!
We have a pretty common saying in todays world… Im all in. Well is Jesus all in your house? i.e. is he all in your life?
I dare you to start talking honestly to Jesus about your life. On your commute to and from work… tell him things like: Jesus, I lust after my neighbor every time I see her. Jesus I hate my boss, if he died I would be ok with that. Jesus I am greedy, I never have enough. Jesus I really don’t like my kids and I sometimes wish I never had them. Jesus I have been considering having an affair or at least a one night stand. Jesus I look at porn and enjoy it. Jesus I hate my brother… truly hate him. Jesus I am embarrassed of my mom and dad and blame you for my family. Jesus I am addicted to…. Jesus I am not really a Christ follower I just do it to keep peace with my wife.
You might be surprised at a few things… first he can handle it. Secondly he wants you to let him in no matter how messy it is. Third, he will start to help you as soon as you confess these things to him and are completely honest. Finally, he can’t help you in the areas you hang on to in secrecy…. oh and a bonus- he already knows, he is just waiting for you to invite him in.

I have received some amazing gifts in my life. My wife was a gift, my boys were gifts, Hey we all love gifts… but the greatest gift I can receive outside of the gift of salvation is something I can only receive from you and something only I can give to others.
Ernest Hemingway grasped some of the difficulty that characterizes relationships between fathers and sons in his short story, The Capital of the World. The story revolves around a father and his teenage son Paco, set in Spain. Paco was an extremely common name in the Spain of that time. With desires to become a matador and to escape his father’s control, Paco runs away to the capital (from which the title is derived) of Spain, Madrid. His father, desperate to reconcile with his son, follows him to Madrid and puts an ad in a local newspaper with a simple phrase:
“Dear Paco, meet me in front of the Madrid newspaper office tomorrow at noon. All is forgiven. I love you.”
Hemingway then writes, “the next day at noon in front of the newspaper office there were 800 “Pacos” all seeking forgiveness.”
The world is full of people in need of forgiveness and reconciliation. The model for such forgiveness is most profoundly found in Jesus Christ.
forgiveness is such a great gift to give!
Eph. 4:32
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”
“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,
Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
What is interesting when you read the verses on forgiveness in the bible… and there are a lot - it has very little to say about forgiving people when they asked to be forgiven NOR does it say much about waiting for someone to come ask you for forgiveness.
Forgiveness wether you need it or you need to give it is solely up to you to act first.
But lets focus on you telling others you forgive them…
Wow how arrogant right? Not really, it is humbling for you to go do that.
Here are reasons you may not do that:
- They didn’t even know they hurt you
They may act indifferent and not receive your forgiveness
- They may laugh or even mock you
They might accept it awkwardly… but not sincerely
- They may tell others about you and how sensitive you are
… ok ok there are a million reasons not to. Why should you? Well First God says to… pretty strong one right there.
But you forgive others for yourself. You don’t need to carry that burden.
But finally… there are those times where people know they hurt you and they feel simply unable to go to you because they don’t know how YOU will react.
I recently went to someone - and yes it was via text, but still reached out to them to ask for forgiveness from them because I found out I had hurt them. It was fantastic, it not only brought healing to them, but strengthened our relationship… and let me be clear - I did not know I hurt them until a few things became clear.
But may I say the most important thing in all of this is that you embody the heart of Christ….
If anybody should not forgive, if anybody should wait for the other to come and ask for forgiveness, if anyone should point out that we are just going to do it again… well Jesus could and even have the right to do that.
But while we were yet sinners…. he came to us, died on the cross to forgive us… wether we choose to receive it or not.

“August 31, 1988, Delta Air Lines Flight 1141, a regularly scheduled domestic flight, taxied for take-off at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.”
14 Killed, 28 seriously injured.
How did this happen? Everything was ok. They went through the pre safety checklist… Until the experts did a little investigating… here is a quote from the book making habits, breaking habits my Jeremy Dean.
“Subsequently, human interaction experts carried out interviews with pilots working at seven major US carriers.2 They found that, because of the endless repetition, pilots quickly got into the habit of running through the checklists, and, once practiced, did so automatically, often without really checking. Pilots reported that sometimes they only saw what they expected to see, rather than what was really there. ”
Excerpt From: Jeremy Dean. “Making Habits, Breaking Habits.” Apple Books.
In fact when checking with the black box audio they realized that as the captain and co-captain talked there was no way that in the 1/10th of a second response of stating the flaps were correct could have happened. he didn’t have enough time to even check them.
Complacency can kill more than risk.
Prov. 1:32
For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them.
Heb. 5:11-12
About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,
The danger in your life is not from the risky things you are doing… ok, maybe there are a couple of 20 somethings out there and you are doing stupid stuff… but the rest of us - our danger is from doing the same thing again and again and again and losing ground.
So what to do?
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Heb. 10:24-25
How do you break complacency? 3 immediate ways.
- 1 Push your boundaries… Spiritually.
- 2 Ask other to be brutally honest about your life, habits, relationships, health
- 3 Try new things in all areas of you life. Business, church, family, hobbies, diet, health…

Poverty Gospel
Christless Gospel… its a self help gospel.
Works Gospel… Catholic church
God is Love Gospel
(Below are 9 other false gospels as described by Trevin Wax, written for the Gospel Coalition.)
Therapeutic Gospel: Sin robs us of our sense of fullness. Christ’s death proves our worth as humans and gives us power to reach our potential. The church helps us find happiness.
Formalist Gospel: Sin is failing to keep church rules and regulations. Christ’s death gives me an agenda, so I can begin to follow the predescribed forms of Christianity.
Moralist Gospel: Our big problem is sins (plural) and not sin (nature). The purpose for Christ’s death is to give us a second chance and make us better people. Redemption comes through the exercise of willpower with God’s help.
Judgmentless Gospel: God’s forgiveness does not need to come through the sacrifice of His Son. Judgment is more about God’s goodness, not the need for human rebellion to be punished. Evangelism is not urgent.
Social-Club Gospel: Salvation is all about finding fellowship and friendship at church. The gospel is reduced to Christian relationships that help us enjoy life.
Activist Gospel: The kingdom is advanced through our efforts to build a just society. The gospel’s power is demonstrated through cultural transformation, and the church is united around political causes and social projects.
Churchless Gospel: The focus of salvation is primarily on the individual, in a way that makes the community of faith peripheral to God’s purposes. The church is viewed as an option to personal spirituality, or even an obstacle to Christlikeness.
Mystic Gospel: Salvation comes through an emotional experience with God. The church is there to help me feel close to God by helping me along in my pursuit of mystical union.
Quietist Gospel: Salvation is about spiritual things, not secular matters. Christianity is only about individual life change and is not concerned with society and politics.
- 6 WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is news, good news: the best and most important news that any human being ever hears.
This Gospel declares the only way to know God in peace, love, and joy is through the reconciling death of Jesus Christ the risen Lord.
This Gospel is the central message of the Holy Scriptures, and is the true key to understanding them.
This Gospel identifies Jesus Christ, the Messiah of Israel, as the Son of God and God the Son, the second Person of the Holy Trinity, whose incarnation, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension fulfilled the Father’s saving will. His death for sins and his resurrection from the dead were promised beforehand by the prophets and attested by eyewitnesses. In God’s own time and in God’s own way, Jesus Christ shall return as glorious Lord and Judge of all (1 Thess. 4:13-18; Matt. 25:31-32). He is now giving the Holy Spirit from the Father to all those who are truly his. The three Persons of the Trinity thus combine in the work of saving sinners.
This Gospel sets forth Jesus Christ as the living Savior, Master, Life, and Hope of all who put their trust in him. It tells us that the eternal destiny of all people depends on whether they are savingly related to Jesus Christ.
This Gospel is the only Gospel: there is no other; and to change its substance is to pervert and indeed destroy it.
This Gospel is so simple that small children can understand it, and it is so profound that studies by the wisest theologians will never exhaust its riches.
Satans strategy with the Gospel…
The same old thing… it has become It has became cheapened, diluted, and polluted.

Galatians 1:No Other Gospel
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different (GK= Second class) gospel— 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort (pervert by adding) the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. (Anathema… a curse that gets worse and worse)
10 For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man (GK = change to be agreeable), I would not be a servant of Christ.
"The turning point in our lives is when we stop seeking the God we want and start seeking the God who is."
- 1 WHAT IS THE GOSPEL
Generally speaking, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, or the message of salvation, justification, and sanctification, is explained by the apostle Paul in his epistle to the Romans, especially in chapters 3 to 8.
DEFINITIONS:
Salvation - Salvation in Christianity, or deliverance or redemption, is the "saving [of] human beings from death and separation from God" by Christ's death and resurrection.
It is the rescue or deliverance from sin, death and the future wrath of God.
The bible speaks of salvation as “You are saved”, “you are being saved” and you have been saved. Salvation is through the grace of God and dependent on Gods work on the cross and dependent on his continued work in our lives. Salvation is ultimately then understood as the comprehensive sum total of the benefits bestowed on the believers by God.
Justification - It is a legal act by God (1) the act by which God moves a willing person from the state of sin (injustice) to the state of grace (justice); (2) the change in a person's condition moving from a state of sin to a state of righteousness;
Sanctification - Sanctification is that renewal of our fallen nature by the Holy Ghost, received through faith in Jesus Christ, whose blood of atonement cleanseth from all sin; whereby we are not only delivered from the guilt of sin, but are washed from its pollution, saved from its power, and are enabled, through grace, to love God. Sanctification is the lived out presence of Gods work in the conscience, heart and actions of the believer.
- 2 WHAT IS THE BAD NEWS
We serve an awesome, good, holy God who is sinless, perfect and just.
Why is that bad news?
Because we are not awesome, good, holy, sinless, perfect and just.
The Bad News is that there is none righteous, no not one (Romans 3:10). We all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
- 3 WHAT IS THE GOOD NEWS
His love for us made a way.
John 3:16
If that doesn’t rock your world then you do not realize how Holy God is and how evil you are.

Elisha has been telling the king not to listen to his advisor…. do not surrender to the Syrian King.
Now we turn to the four lepers. There they are outside the gate [2 Kings 7:3]. And they are dying, not only of the rotting of the corruption of their flesh, but they are dying of the lack of the garbage, that day-by-day was let down to them over the wall; those miserable wretches, that leprous congregation of four wretched men.
When God says something, God does something. When God makes a promise, God immediately begins to work to bring it to pass. It might not be in our lifetime. It might not be in our generation, but when God says a thing, God faithfully does it. And when the Lord said by His prophet Elisha, “This time tomorrow there shall be six gallons of fine flour sold for just a few cents,” when God said that, immediately, God began to bring it to pass.
And the Lord made that host out there in the twilight, the Lord made that sieging army of Syria out there in the twilight, the Lord made those men out there in the twilight, to hear a noise of on-rushing horses. And they said to one another, “That king of Israel, Jehoram in there, has hired the kings of the Hittites and the Egyptians to come against us. And let us flee for our lives!” And they fled

2 Tim. 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, workman that need not be ashamed. Rightly dividing the word truth.
Study - read, learn, ask questions, do and fail and do again
Thyself - every area of your life.
Workman - it’s hard work. Do you want to know why most people do not achieve greatness in some area of their life? They lack the work effort.
Rightly dividing - using all of scripture for all of your life.
Truth… do not divide the truth wrong - or you simply are living out error. You can use the word of God improperly and make your life worse because you did not use the truth properly. Look you can have great medicine, but if you use it wrong it can kill you.
So here are 3 things to chew on regarding this verse.
-1 Everyone is going to die. Including you… and worse yet, you don’t know when you or anyone close to you will die.
So what is the point? The more you apply this verse the not only the better your life will be, but also those you live with and love.
DON”T DELAY
-2 Life doesn’t just happen. Its not a movie where cool things just happen and you end up with the best marriage, job, kids and hobbies.
You have to go out and study and work at it - and when you fail… Keep working at it.
Always have a plan and trust God to work in it and through it.
- 3 Faith, Risk, Guts, chutzpa Whatever you want to call it… it is the secret sauce to life. Are you willing to take steps of faith in every area of your life. See here is the secret to this verse… its not the knowing, its not the doing… its the doing and not knowing that makes life grow and beautiful.
Sure we can make a decision to know about investments. Yes we can make some investments (this would be doing) but what do we do when God says sell all your stock and get out of the stockmarket… when everything is blowing up. This is faith… and it is what I did just before the big crash of 2008. My investor who is one of the top in the world called me and said “did God tell you to do this?”… I said Yeah I kind of felt it in my gut… he yelled at me and said well how about next time you tell me about it.

The fire in your belly!
"Is not My Word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?" (Jeremiah 23:29, KJV).
John the Baptist preached and prophesied that Jesus would fill the believers with "the Holy Ghost and fire"! (Matthew 3:11).
People with fire…
-1 They are internally motivated. They don’t need others or a spouse or a father… it comes from feasting on the word of God. And sometimes a bit of their own attitude lit by the Holy Spirit.
- 2 They don’t waste time wondering… what if, or what about them.
- 3 They are willing to not only make mistakes but humble enough to ask for insight advice and wisdom from anyone!
- 4 They are themselves. They do not waste time trying to please anyone else. not in what they do, believe, dress, or try to accomplish… they are singularly focused on what they feel God has called them to do in every area of their life.
- 5 They always go beyond their limits. They don’t let fear get in the way.
- 6 They are life long learners.
-7 They persevere and then persevere some more
-8 They take care of themselves first.
