Romans 12:4, 5, 6a
4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.
Outgoing vs quiet
Introvert vs. extrovert
Loud bashful
confident vs lack of confidence
There are lots of myths regarding personalities… and I am not going to talk about all the different personalities… but if you want a great study on it, check out stuff on the enneagram test. Good stuff, and one of our speakers Jason Miller is an enneagram ninja and will share a lot of the mans personality.
So what are some of the myths out there regarding introverts and extroverts.
*and here is some personal insight.. I am an extrovert who loves being an introvert. WHAT? I used to be a total extrovert, but I am in place now in life where I give a lot… and it used to empower and ignite me. But now as I get older I realize in order to give as much as I would like to, I need to hide away more than I used to in order to be my Best EX. So I intro in order to Extro!
so with that here are some myths:
Introverts are not emotionally deep people.
Reality: introverts can feel very deep emotions, you just can’t tell.
Extroverts are always warn welcoming and affectionate.
Reality: While extroverts may seem outgoing they can also be very guarded with their emotions. They come across as your best friend - when you realize they are not your best friend you lash out at them and in turn they become a little more guarded.
Introverts don’t say much when I talk, so they must agree with me.
Reality: Introverts may completely disagree with what you are saying but not think it is important or necessary to tell you what they think.
All extroverts are good communicators.
Reality: Some extroverts may actually seem like good communicators, but remember the marks of a great communicator is that they listen more than speak. And as an extrovert myself- trust me this is rarely the case.
So what are marks of an introvert? I share this so you can understand people better…
First they need space, time, privacy. My wife and I can be at home together for hours and never talk… not because we are mad but rather she needs some space.
They like their quiet time, it’s how they recharge their batteries.
They have a rich inner life and thought life that they may never share with you.
They are typically processors… they need time to think things through.. you will frustrate them if you rush them for decisions.
They may check their watch at a party every 5 minutes or sit in the corner and only talk to one person… they are like a river… it is deep and powerful.
They enjoy extroverts because they do all the talking.
So how do you best understand extroverts?
They like people, they work best in an environment of activity and people. They may resent introverts because they don’t understand them.
They will be the last to leave the party… but not really get to know anyone.
They like introverts because they get someone who will listen (or appear to be listening)
They get frustrated not knowing what introverts are thinking
They may think something is wrong if you are not talking
They get fatigued by lack of interaction… wiped out after a full day of school only to be supercharged when friends show up!
You know why typically opposites attract? Because someone has to talk and someone has to listen.
And there is truth in that, but honestly it makes life rich and fulfilling to have opposites in our lives. I have a lot of friends who are extroverts, we have a blast and we get loud and crazy… but we don’t hang out much because we need introverts more than we need extroverts. Find the beauty of the opposite, learn to understand them and grow in life.

Path birds ate it
Among Rocky places and sun scorched it
Thorns and choked it out
Good soil… it accepted it and grew and multiplied… Hold that thought until we look at verse 23-25
Mark 4:
23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” 24 He went on to say, “Pay attention to what you hear. With the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and even more will be added to you. 25For whoever has will be given more. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”…
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”
V. 26 He was saying this in regards to the Kingdom of God.
What is Seeking first the kingdom of God?
it is doing things Gods way. Doing his will and obeying his voice.

Someone’s got to pay in pain… will it be you… or them?
Life is really just a great trade off. You want a great life, a great faith, a great anointing? It is simply a trade… how much are you willing to give of yourself in order to get more of God.
I am not talking about earning anything… thats not even in the picture. We can’t possible earn anything in the realm of God… but earning aside- what does it mean to trade. Well I have to be willing to pay my time to have intimacy with Jesus. I have to be willing to embrace the pain of a slandered name, ridiculed, shamed, made fun of… My goals, needs, desires… all pay a price. Am I willing to pay the price “whatever it takes” to become intimate with God.
My homiletics teacher in Bible college said “with any sermon… someone has to pay in pain”. He went on to expound… if you pay the pain of time, preparation, reading, rehearsing and prayer… then your people won’t pay in pain. However if you don’t pay that price of pain, then when you get up to preach, you can be sure your people will pay that price of pain listening to you”.
Thats all that life is… a trade off.
have you ever had a friend who could trade something and always get more out of it?
On Youtube there is a Tedtalk about a guy who trades a red paperclip for a fish pen, then trades the fish pen for a doorknob and he continues to go up and up and up until he is able to trade for a house. It is a great story… but what you understand in the whole scope of it is this one single key ingredient: Don’t ever trade down.
Now it’s a little easier when looking at a red paper clip. You can trade for just about anything and it is a step up. But what if the trade is a little more gray or nuanced. Like what if its extra time at your job rather than being home for your kids after school. It might seem like an innocuous trade at first… but over time you may realize you traded down. or what about trading 30 minutes of sleep every morning for 30 more minutes of time with God in his word. Again, a seemingly unimportant trade until you see your family, health and business running on empty.
What are you willing to trade your life for?
You might say nothing… oh my friend you are so naive… because everyday you are trading your life for something. Always trade up!

Seems like the world is just unhappy!
Even last night and today in my town Minneapolis there is more rioting and looting due to people being unhappy… oh I get it, we use the excuse of racism, BLM, protesting, radical change etc… but the truth is people are unhappy.
The US constitution does not guarantee happiness only the pursuit of it. You have to catch up with it yourself.
Benjamin Franklin
Reduce the complexity of life by eliminating the needles wants of life, and the labors of life reduce themselves. Edwin Way Tale
Happiness… I might bet you that your happiest moments are not tied to things or accomplishments… but rather times with people.
What do you think about happiness?
What determines happiness?
How much do outside circumstances play a part in your happiness? Job, weather, education, opportunities?
What control do you have over your own happiness?
What role does your faith have in your happiness?
2 Tim. 1:7 God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.
I think happiness is overrated, but I believe that confidence is the key. Happiness depends on what happens… Confidence comes from your walk with God.
I would rather be confident than happy.
But lets stick to the point here, we are in fact talking about happiness.
You know we are fed myths in todays world that you cannot be happy if you are a minority, you are poor, you are old, you are disabled, unemployed… LIES!
What can make you happy can also make you miserable.
Money - can be a great thing
Job - “ “
Marriage - “ “
Education - “ “
Toys - “ “
Family and Friends - “ “
But if you are unhappy and lack a Godfidence to steal a Todd White term, then these only make you more miserable.
The truth is that Study after study proves that life satisfaction and happiness has nothing to do with money or your countries level of purchasing power (i.e. is your country rich or poor)
Now here is what is interesting.
Your happiness can increase if you are married, if you have a healthy social life/friends, if you have money to pay bills, But The overall factor in making these help your happiness to actually putting your happiness on steroids and you having fulfillment and confidence
READY?
it’s having these built on Biblical principles.
Money? Tithe, spend wisely
Marriage? One wife, faithful, no porn
Friendships? Based on your faith
Talents? used for God
Education? balance on Gods word
Health? healthier just being a follower of Christ
Now the simplistic truth is almost as easy as “pessimist” vs. “optimist” mindset.
You know the old saying… is the glass half empty or half full. If you see it as half empty you are a pessimist,
if you see it as half full you are an optimist.
But here is a biblical mindset…
Hey who might need some water?
Hey if its poisoned God said it won’t harm me”
Hey maybe I should water my neighbors plant on the porch and serve her.
Maybe I could sell this little bit of water and give the money to missions.
Ok, these are maybe silly and extreme examples… but this is a biblical Christian mindset and it builds a life of confidence and happiness.

“The remarkable thing about fearing God is that when you fear God you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God you fear everything else.” - Oswald Chambers
Acts 1:7, 8
7Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Jesus is saying… you don’t need to know what is going on. You may be caught off guard. You may not be in the know… you actually might have certain things planned according to your faith and theology.. and it may in fact not come about. You may in fact feel inadequate for a time or a season - seasons change. Ever have a horrendous storm in the middle of summer and it causes major damage? A tornado? Or massive melting of snow causing flooding? Seasons - uhg.
And times! Some days you are bored… to much time, some days you never have enough time. Some times are hard, some times are happy
… but not to worry. He sent his Holy Spirit to ascend upon you. Now this is different from the Holy Spirit in you. When you accept Christ you receive his seal of the Holy Spirit. But there are also times when his Holy Spirit rests on you… maybe you speak in tongues or maybe you are not a tongue talker or even believer… we can cover that on another date and time. But the point is, are you aware that the Holy Spirit is upon you for all seasons and times. and with power!
So lets look at the meat of this verse!
You don’t always know what will happen.
You will have power through the Holy Spirit…
And here is where the claws kick in…
You will be my witnesses.
Can I get a witness?
we love to be a witness.
I was a witness to Lebron James career high game.
I was a witness to the shooting…
I was a witness at the trial
I was a witness seeing the building fall
HOLD ON. Thats is not exactly what this word witness here means. It actually means a martyr!
so lets re-read this verse to get a better understanding.
Acts 1:7, 8
7Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Again the meat of the verse:
You don’t always know what will happen.
You will have power through the Holy Spirit…
You will be willing to give up your life for me at anytime, or place anywhere You are (i.e. in the world)
I hope you don’t miss the chain of events… or the recipe here.
You don’t know what might happen
You have the Holy Spirit on you
He will show up in power if you are not afraid to die to yourself and act on behalf of God. My life is one of a Martyr. I am willing to die to ego, goals, passions, desires, fears, wants needs Popularity, etc…
To live with the mindset of a martyr is to live in a position of power because the holy spirit is always flowing through me… My life does not get in the way!
I don’t work out because I ams disciplined. I work out because I am selfish. I
love the way it makes me feel. What if witnessing was that way...it's not that
we’re good at it I just love the way it makes me feel.
Be a witness!

What do shoelaces, stripes and centurions have to do with one another? Find out in just a minute!
Luke 3:16 Jesus wants John to baptize him and John says… Baptize? I am not even worthy to untie your sandals.
It is a deep humbleness and feeling unworthy.
When Jesus starts on his way to go heal this Centurions slave… the Centurion still does not come out to meet him but still sends friends to meet him. Still an act of humility. The centurion sends this message.
the centurion sent friends, saying to Him, “[c]Lord, do not trouble Yourself further, for I am not worthy for You to enter under my roof; 7 for that reason I did not even consider myself worthy to come to You; but just [d]say the word, and my servant [e]shall be healed. 8 For I also am a man placed under authority, with soldiers under myself; and I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”
“I am a man under authority”
The Centurion was not a Jew, he did not have a heritage of faith nor do we know if he actually believed in Yahweh.
he was in fact a Roman officer, a gentile, and he doesn’t even know Jesus personally or by acquaintance…
But what we do know is that he believed Jesus had the power and he understood authority.
To him all he cared about was that he saw Jesus as a man of action, power, and what we would call fruit.
Its interesting that the man does not claim to be a follower of Jesus, but probably still believes Jesus has some type of “IN” with God the Father.
Here is my takeaway with this story…The centurion understands authority.
In scripture we see different types of authority.
Sovereign authority
The authority of the truth
The authority of conscience
Delegated authority
Functional authority
Customary authority
Contractual authority
So the centurion understood delegated authority. He knew that God had given him authority.
My question is: Do you realize that God has given you authority?
Do you understand now that Jesus has taken stripes for our healing and died on the cross for our forgiveness - he has paid the price and through that has given us the authority as believers in him.
Ever throw a fit for not getting what you paid for? I have, I will go through every person in the chain of command to get what I paid for… thats my money, I gave it to you, you in turn promised X and instead gave me BS. Im not leaving until I get what I paid for.
Once I get up to the chain of command typically the head honcho goes you are right sir… here is what you paid for!
IM NOT ASKING FOR FREBBIES, OR FAVORS, JUST WHAT I PAID FOR.
Understanding Gods authority works like this: I pray for someones healing and they don’t get healed. I get ticked… why? Because Jesus paid the price and he gets what he paid for! I will pray, bad mouth the devil, pray more, get mad, pray some more… Jesus gets what he paid for. That is what my authority is based on. His stripes, his blood, his death and his resurrection.

Mark 4:21-25 Wuest Translation
And he was saying to them, the lamp does not come, does it, in order to be placed under the peck measure or under the reclining couch? does it not come in order to be placed upon the lamp stand? for there is not anything which is hidden, expect it be in order that it might be made known, nor has anything become hidden but in order that it might come into full view. assuming that a person has ears to be hearing, let him be hearing. and he was saying to them, keep ever a watchful eye on what you are hearing. in the measure by which you are measuring it will be measured to you. and it will be measured to you not only according to that measure, but there will be some added on top of that. for he who has it shall babe given to him. and he who does not have, even that which he has shall be taken away from him.
Message:
21-22 Jesus went on: “Does anyone bring a lamp home and put it under a bucket or beneath the bed? Don’t you put it up on a table or on the mantel? We’re not keeping secrets, we’re telling them; we’re not hiding things, we’re bringing them out into the open.
23 “Are you listening to this? Really listening?
24-25 “Listen carefully to what I am saying—and be wary of the shrewd advice that tells you how to get ahead in the world on your own. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity. Stinginess impoverishes.”
NASB
21 And He was saying to them, “A lamp is not brought to be put under a [f]basket, or under a bed, is it? Is it not brought to be put on the lampstand? 22 For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, [g]let him hear.” 24 And He was saying to them, “Take care what you listen to. [h]By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides. 25 For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”
What you listen to will in turn start to show up and feed you more of the same. Many call it a self fulfilling prophecy. Look if you are told blacks are criminals, hispanics are lazy, white people think they are better than others, asians can’t drive, Indians are drunks…
I once read in a book a line that really bothered me.. and in todays world - well, now it really bothers me. The author said this “you can never have enough information”.
That sounds great right?
But what if its wrong information… what if its information that is racist, anti faith, information that is strictly from a secular, worldly fleshly view. What if its information that does not inquire or understand the spiritual world or who God is. Then cut it off.
I can always find information that backs up my opinion… the key is to find information that is biblical.
Look at verse 23-25
23 If anyone has ears to hear, [g]let him hear.” 24 And He was saying to them, “Take care what you listen to. [h]By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides. 25 For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.
We have often heard and understood the concept of reaping and sowing. You give money to God, to the poor etc… you will reap that blessing. You plant seeds in an area of your life and you will reap that. If you sow seeds of helping others you will reap a great network of people there for you.
*But this scripture takes it to a new level. What ever you listen to, you will reap more of that information. And here is the catch…
Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.
You have heard that right? This is exactly what Christ is saying but breaking it down in a supernatural way. Not only what you think on will ultimately be your destiny… but what you think on will be a catalyst, it will cause a proliferation of thoughts which in turn speed up and put your life on the fast track of that outcome.
i.e. think on scripture, quickly live a life like Jesus, think on Facebook, CNN, twitter, Tik tock, instagram etc… and live that destiny in short order.
Its not the source that is the problem, it is the formula behind it. The formula works regardless of what you plant - just like dirt. But your mind, unlike dirt has a spiritual component to it that can reproduce at light speeds that upon which you are plugging into your ears.
You will begin to hear things and you will interpret them according to what you have been listening to… you know the stupid meme on Facebook. Someone posts I like apples… someone responds “you don’t like oranges, you hate Florida… why don’t you like old people… you careless idiot, I hate you”.
This is what happens in real life when we are not careful what we listen to and compare it to scripture… it ends up all being biased and vile because that is how we will interpret it.

What is the best way to help the poor?
Don’t be one of them.
What is success?
What does the bible deem as a success?
Well it says nothing about money and success, toys and success, the size of your house, your looks, your popularity, your sex life, How long you have been a Christian or even how much of the bible you know…
What is success? I think Paul gives us a great insight when he says I have finished my race.
2 Tim. 4:6-8 6For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8From now on there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but to all who crave His appearing.
Fought - success is at the end of your life you have fought. You know what is crazy in the Apostle Pauls examples of being a follower of Christ? He uses examples where people are always in a form of struggle. He uses Athletes, farmers and Warriors. What does this tell me? Success is a constant battle and not a destination.
Finish - My motto has always been older and bolder not older and colder. I want to finish… Finish it. Finish my race. Trust me when you get to heaven and you look over your life in Christ he will not care about the times you tried and failed… nor will you. But you will be sick to your stomach at what you did not start and what you did not finish. Can’t finish without starting.
Faith - What is keeping the faith really mean? simple: Keeping your relationship with Christ passionate and intimate. How many of you are in or have seen marriages where they are married. But have they kept the faith in the pledge to one another… at the altar - to love in all situations? No, many act as if they are divorced or worse yet, just roommates. They have not kept the faith in their relationships. So what about you in your walk with God the father? Have you kept the faith, the relationship the intimacy?
So I started out this podcast about the best way to help the poor is to not be one… meaning there are so many things that help the poor when you are not one.
you give them something to shoot for
You can give them wisdom and insight
You can help them with financial aid
You can build them a school so they can grow and learn
You can dig wells and give them water
THE LIST IS ENDLESS.
So with that in mind - what is the best way to change the world? It is for you to be a Successful Christian.

Have you ever run a marathon? I have… well it was actually a half marathon… not quite a half marathon exactly… more like I ran… to the gas station… the one called marathon… so yea in a way I ran a marathon… or I guess to a marathon… but lets not get ticky tacky over the minutia!

His last words on the cross…
John 19:30 It is finished.
His life was finished… but his resurrection was the exclamation point to his life. What do you think he meant when he said “it is finished”… well I am sure the ramifications of that statement could rabbit hole down a lot of theological ideologies… and all good I would imagine. But here is one insight I would add.
CONCLUSION: IT IS FINISHED/VICTORY
Several hundred years before the birth of Jesus, a crucial battle occurred between the
Greeks and the Persians upon the plains of Marathon (the land between Persia and Greece). The battle raged for hours. In many respects it was a fight to the finish. Finally the numerically inferior Greeks, the underdogs, managed a tremendous tactical win, but there was a problem. Soon the Senate, many miles away in Athens, was to vote and would most certainly ratify a treaty of appeasement. In desperation they sent a runner in full battle gear to go the twenty-seven miles to tell of the news. By the time the young boy got to Athens he had run a Marathon. It is said he was totally spent, that he literally ran himself to death. In his exhaustion he was able to utter only one word to the Athenians: "Victory."
Today we come to church with the sound of the Hallelujah Chorus still
resonating in our ears. We have been to the empty tomb. We have heard the
glad news of resurrection. And now it is time for the church to send a
message back to the world. What should that message be? May I suggest that
it could be a single word: Victory.

This is a touchy subject… no pun intended. If I say wives should submit to husbands sexual appetites so that they are not tempted - it makes woman feel like just a end to a means… basically an object for a mans affection with no real connection. Men will rah rah and women will feel as if I am betraying them. If I tell men that women are to be treated with love and respect and you are to care for them as your own bodies - Men might worry that it empowers their wife to say no to sex and feel justified… Even use it as a weapon.
Now both premises are correct in scripture. Yes women are to give themselves to their husbands so they do not fall into temptation…
And yes men are to love their wives and serve them even if that means saying no to their own sexual desires…
so what are we to do?
Well I think the insight comes from the Apostle Paul who says men and women should submit to one another and throws in this little catch “men love your wives as Christ loved the church”. he does not say “oh and wives love your husbands as Christ loved the church”.
I think if one looks at the balance of Scripture it shows that a mans sex drive when ruled by the overarching principles of scripture make it clear that he may not get all the sex he wants and in fact it might be the one thing that really causes him to push into God.
If a man who really wants to be like Christ is having little if none sex with his wife, he has 3 choices: give into lust ie. porn or an affair, Pout and sulk and try to punish his wife, Or push into God and realize that satan would love to use this powerful motive in our lives to keep us from growing in our faith - so we instead push into God even more.
The truth is that God has in some ways earned the right to tell us what to do… he died for us, he empowers us, he lived for us, he died for us and he continues to do so even when we do not serve him 100%. What am I trying to say? Men we are to be like Christ to our wives. Paul said that it is Gods kindness that leads us to repentance. Might your unmet needs in the bedroom be a catalyst that causes you to earn your wife’s love, devotion and body in bed.
Are you Jesus to your wife?
Have you earned the right into her bed and her body by how you love her, woo her, make her feel appreciated, put your confidence in her, physically be affectionate with her, speak life to her… make her feel safe not just physically but emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Emotionally… she can share her fears and hopes with you.
Mentally… you won’t call her stupid or belittle her
Spiritually… she knows you seek God and choose to follow his leading.
Look the truth is that when Kim and I have gone seasons without sex… and trust me due to health issues we have gone almost a year (a couple times) without sex… and it was the best thing for both of us. I had to hunker down and seek God in new and revealing ways.
But the flip side is my wife does feel safe physically, mentally, spiritually emotionally with me. I have earned the right into her bed and body… and even if I have earned it and she shuts me down… what a great way to practice Gods grace not only to her but also in my own life trusting God will empower me to focus on him and not on my libido. Believe it or not… you can get sexually frustrated and fail in faith - or you can get focused on faith and be more like Christ and in turn draw your wife affection to you more than ever.
now will this work 100% of the time… not always, but it is still the right thing to do. You may in fact never have sex with your wife again… and guess what? Gods grace can get you through it and even use it for his good and your blessing if you give it to him.
