Ever walk into the bathroom and see that you have some food in your teeth, or a booger hanging out of your nose… I once walked around for 20 minutes at a McDonalds and I had forgotten I had put some of my sisters acne medicine on my face… big white spots all over my face… no one said anything. Please tell me next time.
Whiner
I don’t whine I complain… is there a difference? Yes, maybe whiners have a little more nasal tone than complainers.
There are those who never seem to be satisfied. These are known as chronic complainers. They have a tendency to ruminate on problems and to focus on setbacks over progress. Some research suggests that making a habit of complaining can “re-wire” the brain so that those particular thinking orientations become ingrained. It is possible to re-wire this re-wiring to make it more positive, of course, but chronic complainers probably don’t think it would work all that well.
Some complain simply to bring attention to themselves. It’s all about me… and life is unfair to me. I need you to change XYZ because it’s all about me. Its a mindset of why do bad things always happen to me. They actually don’t see the reality that life happens to everyone- regardless.
I think both of these can also stem from your upbringing. Downer Debby had a mom called Downer Doris. You see life the way your parents saw life.
So what to do? First find out if you are a whiner. Ask those closest to you. Ask your boss, your wife, your friends, your pastor… Why do this? Because most whiners don’t realize they are whiners! When you ask, be ready to hear the truth.
Now simply validate your feelings. What do I mean by that. You can accept that some things in life are hard, and its ok to not like it. But next you must realize everyone has these situations and problems in life. So your next step is crucial…. move on with a solution or move on with your life. Not everything can be fixed, but you can continue to focus on what is most important at hand.
Notice Philippians 2:14 says do all things without grumbling or complaining.
Notice it does not say you will not have things that could cause you to grumble or complain- but simply when those things that seem unfair or wrong happen to you- move on, don’t complain.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.
I think what God understands is what scientists are now discovering with neuroplasticity. whatever you think on you will program your mind to naturally fall into that mindset.
If your team is down 8 runs in the bottom of the 9th, do you complain about the weather, the lack of talent, the fact that your best team members are missing, your back is sore…
or do you think about what an amazing comeback this is going to be. what a story you will be able to tell. Its up to you.
