Its thanksgiving weekend, So no podcast on Thursday or Friday, but until then these next 2 days we are going to go Thanks on Thanks.
Thousands of letters sent each year to God end up in a sorting office in Jerusalem. According to the Associated Press, the letters arrive from all over the world in the city's undeliverable mail department.
"We have hundreds of thousands of letters sent either to God or Jesus Christ, and for some reason they come to Jerusalem," said post office spokesman Yitzak Rabihiya.
In one letter an Israeli man asked God for 5,000 shekels ($1,000), to ease his poverty. Postal workers were so moved that they sent him 4,300 shekels.
"After a month the same person wrote again to God," Mr. Rabihiya explained, "but this time he wrote, 'Thank you, God, for the contribution, but next time please don't send it through those postmen. They're thieves; they stole 700 shekels'."
1 Chronicles 16:8
"Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!"
What am I thankful for? First off the top of my head I am thankful for two boys who absolutely keep me proud, and full of laughter. I have a great sense of humor and they both can make me laugh harder than anyone. My oldest has slapstick humor and my youngest is a dry wicked cutting humor. I love their wit and hang on edge for the next silly word. On thanksgiving day you can bet we will all be laughing our heads off with all three of us kicking it.
Next I love my grandkids. My G’dogs (thats what I call them) are the best. They smother me with kisses, affection, love, smiles, laughter and smart remarks. For only being 8 and 4 they are at the top of my list for who I want to hang out with.
Point is… don’t wait to give thanksgiving and don’t wait to tell others you are thankful for them. Thats what this week is really about. I will end with this story.
An elderly man in Phoenix calls his son in New York and says, "I hate to
ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing;
45 years of misery is enough."
"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.
"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the old man says.
"We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call
your sister in Chicago and tell her." Then he hangs up.
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "Like heck
they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this." She calls
Phoenix immediately, and screams at the old man, "You are NOT getting
divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother
back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO
YOU
HEAR ME?"
The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay," he says,
"They're coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own fares."
