Titus 2:Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.

 

Temperate - vigilante, sober

Respect - Man of dignity, honorable 

Prudent - "brings safety") to the body, keeping it properly controlled.]

Sound in faith, love endurance

Sound - healthy solid

Faith - his walk with God

Love his motive

Endurance… he has been tested… We need men that have been tested in temperance, respect, prudence, faith, love, endurance…. Tested.

But we hate tests, we typically run from tests…

I recently heard a quote “comfort is the body’s slow adaptation to death” 

You must test yourself in all things, but especially in spiritual matters… 

BUT WAIT THATS NOT ALL….

 

The intro is Teach old men this is what they are… its who they are, its why they are.

BUT AGAIN…. You are teaching old men.

Men don’t like to be taught by other men, especially older men. We feel like we already know, we got this, we don’t need some snot nose whipper snapper telling him what to do or to test him. 

I don’t know why it is so hard as men to take direction… to take correction… to take orders or action from someone else. Do we secretly want to be stupid, untested and weak?

Now if you look at this in the greek and how it is written, it actually connects the dots to the next few verses…

Unless men are tested, women will not learn to be who they are meant to be… and if they are not who they are meant to be, they will not learn to love their husbands and their children the way God wants them to be loved. 

Men it all comes back to you being willing to be tested by other men even if they are younger than you… any man who can teach me, test me and prove me is a friend to me, my wife and my kids. 

What does it mean to be tested? It means to be proven pure… and who sees god….Matt. 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
