What is sin? Choosing your desires over Gods…. it is more than just keeping the 10 commandments. 

Jesus himself said “love the lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and spirit”. That is an intense relationship- intimate! Now you know his desires and can keep them beyond just the rules.

 

We covered yesterday that when we sin it is due to our sin nature that is disguised as “good intentions”. Our Good intentions are the little parasites that turn our good intentions into evil behavior and mindset. 

 

 

 

THE NATURE OF SIN

Pasha - To break with to fall away from to revel to revolt against subjection to rightful authority. Thus rendered transgression. 

 

Choosing to sin to assume control! Rebellion is a false sense of power! 

 

Rasha - To make noise, tumult or disturbance. The wicked make noise in their life.

 

Sinful people are hard to be around unless you yourself are sinful. 

 

Now when I go to concerts that have secular bands… I can only show up for my band… the other bands and the people wear me out from Rasha!

 

JESUS HUNG OUT WITH SINNERS - YES!

BUT EVEN HE GOT AWAY FROM THEM REGULARLY! 

 

Ma’al - To cover, comes from the secret act of sin, treachery deceit fraud or unfaithfulness. 

 

You lie and have to lie to cover a lie and then keep lying. 

 

All sins will be found out! 

 

 

THE GREEK HAS WORDS THAT MATCH CLOSELY TO THESE MEANINGS. 

 

 

2 Peter 2 the unrepentant will pay for their sin here on earth. 

 

Not the unsaved, but simply the unrepentant. Those who know Christ but refuse to repent and grow cold. 

 

 

Unrepentant sin in the believers life = 

  1  First grievance of the Holy Spirit

  2  Secondly loss of fellowship of the father

  3  Thirdly loss of spiritual power in the daily life

 

Eph. 4:30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit for whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

The Holy spirit is a 

Dove,

River, 

Light,

Oil,

Power

Wind

Dew

HE IS A PERSON!!!! A PERSON!!! 

SIN OFFENDS HIM…

 

I made a stupid remark in a sermon a few months ago.. about Beckys mom. It was in jest, but stupid and a couple got offended and never came back to church!

AS THEY SHOULD…

Because that is what the Holy Spirit does!
