“Kill it” GK - Thoo-o To sacrifice it.
A fatted calf… was set a part to keep it from blemish and to fatten it up. It’s sole purpose was for it to be sacrificed.
People would say its inhumane to take something and keep it in
perfect health,
keep it free from disease
let it grow to it’s richest state
While most cattle simply grazed in fields,
fed in a stall unable to use all of its abilities.
And limited to keep roaming freely
GROWN TO PERFECTION…only to kill it.
(SOUNDS LIKE JESUS)
#5 It was a celebration of Faith
In the Robertsons word studies in the greek denotes this “THAT FATTED CALF”.
as in “Get that calf I have been preparing for this occasion”.
It was an act of faith that the father was fattening up the calf before the son ever came to his senses.
So get this… when does a calf become a cow… how old can a calf be before you don’t call it a calf anymore. 2 years… so don’t miss the point. The day the son walked out on his father wishing he was dead, and then parties like a rockstar…and then comes back… The dad in an act of faith on the day he walked out and picked out a new born cow/calf and said “THAT CALF” WILL BE OUR CELEBRATION MEAL.
**Years ago I bought a bible and I bought it for MY SON Reese… an act of faith. He was a prodigal.
I highlighted it
I marked it up
I wrote notes in it
I put my own cross references in it
KNOWING SOME DAY MY SON WOULD READ THIS BIBLE.
Earlier this summer I snapped a picture of him out on the deck with a coffee mug that read fueled by prayer, the Bible I gave him open, him reading it and worship music playing… That was my act of faith in standing and believing my son would come back to Jesus.
