Maybe the hardest thing for us to understand is Gods forgiveness. His forgiveness is not earned, it is not measured out by behavior, it is not lost, it is not built up like credit. We don’t get any more forgiveness than the next person nor do we get an extra nod and smile when we have done really well and ask for extra forgiveness. 

 

The truth is, God does not give second chances…

oh yea I know where this is going, he doesn’t give second chances, he gives 3rd, 4th, 5th etc…

 

No he truly does not give second chances… why? Because when he forgives he not only forgets, but he abandons our sins into utter non-existence. Listen to this verse. 

 

He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12

 

The word remove in the Hebrew means completely and utterly lost and abandoned. They are gone forever, and forgotten forever.

 

So you come to God and you ask him into your life and you ask for his blood to forgive you… and he does. You are forgiven and clean, righteous before him. But in time you sin again… you go to him and confess your sins and ask him to strengthen you… he does. But you blow it again and you go to him and say God can you please give me a second chance and forgive me and he says “what do you mean second chance?”. I checked my records and you are righteous and holy. No matter how many times we sin, when we come to him he forgives and forgets forever. When we come back to him and repent and ask for forgiveness he does not see it as a second chance, but rather the first time you repented. Now I believe this is different then the first time we come to him and ask for his forgiveness and for him to take over our life and lead us, to become Lord of our life. But after that we are called to confess our sins to others and to God to bring our sin out into the light. It is at this point he sees it as our first time… and never remembers it again. 

Now this is not the point of todays podcast. The point is we keep score even if God does not. Why is it so hard to step out in boldness? Because we keep score! But if we realize that God has washed us in his blood, forgiven and free from our sin we can move freely to serve him. 

And wait there’s more…. so if I am forgiven why do I go to him and repent when I sin again… well it has to do with intimacy. Forgiveness is the platform for intimacy. Once you have acquired a taste for God and his intimacy you don’t want to stain it. 

 

Today is not about forgiveness it is actually about intimacy. How much time do you spend with Jesus?

 

I have people say, how can you do a podcast every day? Well if I am intimate with Jesus its easy. If I miss a day, I feel it. If I miss 2 days my wife feels it, If I miss 3 days everyone notices it. I need, want and desire intimacy. I am addicted to it. 

So I revel in his forgiveness and I am eager to repent when I need to - because its about intimacy.
