Why do bad things happen to good people…
If you have read the book of Job you probably have a gist of what its about… maybe. Job was a good dude, he loved God and served him faithfully. Then out of seemingly nowhere he gets slammed, his finances are gone, his family is gone, his health is gone and finally his wife says curse God and die and then she is gone.
How many bad things do you have going in your life? probably not as many as Job…
And what does Job do? he blames God… not so much blames him in an accusative tone, but rather a tone of “oh well if this is what God chooses, then so be it”.
HOLD THE PHONE… The book of Job is written 155 years before Moses. Job had no notion or understanding of satan, demons, spiritual warfare etc… so when we read Job 2:7 that says satan left Gods presence and struck job with disease and pain from head to foot. - Its understandable that Job blames God.
What is your excuse? Look you know the verse that satan comes to steal, kill and destroy… so why are you blaming God?
Remember Jesus comes to give life and life abundantly. Bad things happen to everyone - not just sinners, not just saints.
Matthew 5:45 so that you may [show yourselves to] be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on those who are evil and on those who are good, and makes the rain fall on the righteous [those who are morally upright] and the unrighteous [the unrepentant, those who oppose Him].
And bad things happen because we are stupid people. We do dumb things and make unwise choices and quick decisions. Sometimes we just simply make sinful choices due to our lusts, greed, impatience and pride.
What am I getting at?
simply this: whatever is good, it is from God. Whatever is bad it is from satan or yourself. So if you deal with satan and your bad choices… everything is good.
…ok, I can’t just cut satan out of the picture, but I can keep him from having his way. What is the saying, Martin Luther said, “You cannot keep birds from flying over your head but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair.” You can't keep the Devil from suggesting thoughts, but you can choose not to dwell or act on them.
Do you have weaknesses that satan can attack? Then deal with them, and at all times give thanks to God for all the good things in life. It is a great way to keep focus and build worship into your life… where you worship- God dwells!
