Is it worth it?

Acts 2:44 and they gave sacrificially  - maybe that was part of the secret to such power and presence of the Holy Spirit.

Is it worth the sacrifice?

I was just talking recently to someone who said “I heard a person say that listening to secular rock music can invite demons… and it led into a great conversation in which I shared not only that, but also what you watch on TV, what images you put in your brain, who you hang out with and even jewelry or clothes you wear… 

I told her that in fact most of this is seemingly harmless… even yoga can be demonic and invite a presence of evil that you are unaware of.

She had a hard time with what I was saying and then I stopped her and asked….

BUT EVEN IF IT SEEMS QUITE BENIGN - WOULDN’T IT BE WORTH IT TO EXPERIENCE EVEN MORE OF HIS POWER AND HIS PRESENCE? 

 

And thats really what the Christian walk comes down to… sacrifice seems sometimes silly… but its worth it. Look if you told someone “quit listening to Slayer and Meshugah… its demonic and it hinders your walk with God”… you probably would not get much push back from most Christians… even those who listen to such music…

But if I said, don’t wear that chain that has a yin and yang symbol on it… you might just smile and let it go and think Im overreacting… but what if I am not. What if its worth it?

Today is not about all the weird, crazy, things we hear about what is and what is not demonic. For a long time Christian music was an idol for me… and I gave it up. At one time Working out was an idol for me and I gave it up… 

Are these demonic? Yes and no. Not for you but maybe for me… maybe just for that season, but its demonic if it hinders what God wants to do in my life. 

I know this…as I have read and studied the men and woman who are used the greatest by God… and I mean raise the dead, heal the sick, words of prophecy and words of knowledge… those people hold themselves to a much higher standard than the rest of us…

They do weird things like not shaking hands with certain people. Not walking into houses that have secular artists and art on the wall. Not even walking into stores that have secular music playing and even stranger stuff to most of us… and yet they promise me that its the standard by which God has called them to if they want more intimacy and power.

I think of it this way… my wife and I are best friends. We can be at a mall, shopping, eating, background music playing, friends with us, buying stuff we probably don’t really need and really enjoying ourselves… and we are intimate.

But not like when you strip all that away and its just us, in bed, no music, no clothes on, just feeling each others body heat and talking … even whispering our intimate secrets, whispering what we want the other person to know, whispering our love for them.

So you say… well yeah I would take that over the other as well.

Than I would challenge you the reason you don’t want to sacrifice things out of your life for God, isn’t because you think its too hard, but rather you have never experienced that deeper intimacy and realized “its worth it”.

To give up time with friends, food, money, laughter, shopping… is easy when I know how much more powerful true intimacy is… I will give it up in a heartbeat every time. She’s worth it… and so is God.
