October 30th Clueless couples in Covid
Dependent, independent or Codependent? Which is right, wrong are there differences to a healthy marriage?
Nobody likes a backseat driver, no one wants to hear about how tough you are unless you have scars to prove it, no one cares how much you bench unless we see it or some trophies, nobody cares how great of a cook you are until we can taste it.
Shut up until we actually see you do it, live it, be it!
Lets be honest right now we are living in a time where everyone has an opinion, a platform to whine, complain, argue and even spout off like an expert with no real background to back it up.
So I don’t want to take on the issues of today per se, like COVID, The president, BLM, China etc….
But where can we draw the line! When do we just walk away and ignore people? Or maybe even tell them off… and if we do OR if we can- how do we… and is it biblical?
Well lets look at Galatians - Paul wrote this book.
Galatians has always been among those Pauline epistles least challenged on the issue of authorship. Paul wrote to the churches in southern Galatia after having a hand in starting them on his first missionary journey to Asia Minor. Paul’s close relationship to these churches helps to explain the extremely strong tone he took with them from the very beginning of the letter. Galatians exhibits Paul at his angriest, as he risked the good favor of the converts in those churches to make sure they were on the path of truth and not led off into deception. In fact, to emphasize the seriousness of his purpose, he took the pen from his scribe and wrote the end of the letter himself in large letters
The churches had some issues going on… Mainly some converts started to emphasize the law and basically saying we must earn our salvation… even after Paul had preached and given them the beautiful understanding of the gospel, gods grace and his provision… Others emphasized just the opposite and that because we are saved by grace we can continue on into a life of sin. TALK ABOUT A YING YANG problem.
*isn’t that just like religious people… they will still pervert the gospel - they will argue their point, try to impress you with why they are right.
Things haven’t change much have they? Seems like everyone has an opinion.
So where am I going with this?
I have shared this thought many times but a verse in Galatians 6 at the end of the chapter reminded me of this point.
Unless you are winning people for Christ, having to deal with some type of persecution… maybe laughed at, or you put your reputation on the line or you don’t mind looking foolish (and do so on a regular basis) or you risk faith in praying for the sick, lost and again this is out on your daily routine… LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY… YOU ARE LIVING IT AND YOU ARE SEEING FRUIT!
So many times I ask people who want to argue with me… how many people have you shared Christ with this week, this month? How many have you led to Christ? How many have you prayed for healing? HOW MANY?
Because if its not more than a couple… I don’t care what you have to say. Don’t bother me.
is this attitude wrong? Well lets take a look at what Paul writes at the end of this letter and he is angry and even picks up the pen and says I am writing this in my own handwriting and in big letters… like in caps right?
Gal. 6:17
NIV 17 From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
Galatians 6 Message
17 Quite frankly, I don’t want to be bothered anymore by these disputes. I have far more important things to do—the serious living of this faith. I bear in my body scars from my service to Jesus.
Look, there are a few ways to look at this verse.
First off, if you are living for jesus and really living a life of faith and putting it on the line every day… then quit worrying about everyone else and their opinion and what they are getting caught up in.
And there is the more obtuse and yet i believe still biblical thought of just calling people out.
I have in the recent past told someone their opinion means nothing to me because they do not live out their faith, they simply argue their flawed theological ideals. Until you actually start telling people about jesus, telling them the beautiful salvation message and start actually leading people to Christ… and bonus - you are praying for people out in public and seeing healings and getting words of knowledge… I do not care about what you have to say about the bible, your insights to scripture and please do not argue with me about my theological beliefs.
Finally… are you that guy? That girl? Do you have scars to share? Do you have stories of being harassed for your faith, made fun of, maybe even taken some pain… my wife had someone try to light her hair on fire when we were out witnessing. Live a life of faith that gives you some scars, some stories, some battle tested insights and testimonies.
