Obedience
You better obey me, young lady or you will get eaten by alligators! That would seem ridiculous unless you know the future. The girls did not listen. They did not obey and they did get eaten by alligators.
Believing without obedience is the ultimate idolatry. We are saying without a doubt I am God I know best I will obey only me.
Garth, here is some encouragement in the Lord today. In Genesis 19, Lot is told by the Angels to flee to the Mountains and Lot pleads to be allowed to run to “this little city” called Zoar (19:18-21). Lot argued that he would be overtaken by the disaster and would not make it. He chose the path to Zoar because it was easier, rather than choosing the mountain, which seems logical.
In Hebrew Zoar means “insignificant”. If we step back and read this passage with that in mind, we see that Lot chose the easy path to insignificance rather than choosing the harder path that God had laid out for him. We will never know how his destiny and those of his wife and daughters would have been different had he chosen the harder path. Maybe his wife would have focused on the urgency to get up the mountain rather than looking back on a path with sure footing. Again we will never know.
Today, I pray that we follow and learn obedience in the path the Lord has set before us even if it is harder. I pray that this brings Him glory and that in the long term our families are blessed by these decisions… if not we might actually be choosing insignificance and like Lot… never be heard of again just like his story in the Bible.
