The children of Israel have out and away from Egypt and been in the desert for a year… and now God says send in 12 spies to the land of Canaan. The promised land. 

 

Numbers 14:8,9,10

8If the LORD delights in us, He will bring us into this land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and He will give it to us. 9Only do not rebel against the LORD, and do not be afraid of the people of the land, for they will be like bread for us. Their protection has been removed, and the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them!” 10But the whole congregation threatened to stone Joshua and Caleb. Then the glory of the LORD appeared to all the Israelites at the Tent of Meeting.

 

 

The spies gave a true report in the natural.

But God wanted them to believe him and give a report of the bounty he had for them. the Blessing he had prepared for them. 

 

Joshua here in verse 9 says do not rebel against the Lord. 

Rebel HB = Mawrad 

Its an interesting word… it has the connotation that you are really working at trying to excuse your disobedience. 

 

you ever meet people like that? So why don’t you attend church? Well, its really the only day I have to catch up on stuff and to spend time with my wife.. and I actually do get into the word on Sundays and have my own quiet time… chatter chatter chatter  Mawrad…

 

Why don’t you tithe? Oh why I absolutely believe in it even though it is an OT concept, but right now we have decided to give our money to other needs outside the church (like your fishing hobby?) Mawrad…

 

Why don’t you ever share Christ with others… well it’s not my gifting - my gifting is the gift of helps… and … mawrad…

 

I don’t really have a porn problem, I am in a sexless marriage so yea once and awhile I may look at porn but it’s not habitual… I know guys who can’t live with out it… Mawrad

 

These spies are working overtime to convince Moses why they can’t take the Land that GOD PROMISED THEM… HELLO? HELLO? DID YOU HEAR WHAT I JUST SAID? THEY ARE TRYING TO CONVINCE THEMSELVES AND MOSES THAT WHAT GOD SAYS IT NOT TRUE! 

 

Joshua then puts it into what I like to say as a little ghetto talk… he says… 

and do not be afraid of the people of the land, for they will be like bread for us.

 

We are going to eat their lunch! These giants, they will be a meal… yes a supersized meal, but still a meal for us! 

 

It makes me wonder if Jesus had this in mind when he taught the disciples how to pray… give us this day our daily bread.  

Again in street slang: let me eat my giants today. Let me devour my problems today. May they nourish my faith! 

 

The Lords prayer…

Give us this day our daily bread… my giants - y problems, my struggles… are my meals that God has prepared for me! 

 

Remember because Israel didn’t trust God to feed their enemies to them - they had to wander 40 more years.

Don’t put off eating todays giants… you never know how long it will be until you get another chance!
