Fear is not hard
Happiness is kind of hard (the fear of the unkown… when will it end)
But what is really fearful is not knowing at all - the not knowing is what gets you.
My hardest test was not cancer… it was the waiting on the tests to see a. If I had cancer and then b. If had spread, and c. Is it stage I. II. III or IV.
The mind, however finds it much harder to accept uncertainty.
I have no problem fearing what I know… get into a cage to fight or under a huge amount of weight… I know what is coming.
But to get into a cage to fight and I don’t know who it is… or getting under a bar and I don’t know how much weight there is… that seems unfair.
The mind fears change loss and death, but not when it knows it is certain - it is when it is uncertain that drives you crazy. This resistance, the body translates into stress. By imposing mental resistance, you create a threat your body had to cope with.
Deepak Chopra explained it this way…
Some people riding a roller coaster are screaming from excitement, others from terror. The ride is the same but the ones who hold back and tense their bodies, generating a flood of stress hormones, experience terror. The ones who let go and allow themselves to be carried by the ride experience exhilaration. Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, Deepak Chopra p. 174
All through out the Bible we see people who were tested and had trials and even life and death moments… Stephen was the first martyr and died literally with a smile on his face.
Saul died in agony
Paul looked forward to death
Judas hung himself
Peter asked to die upside down because he was not worthy to die the way his Messiah did
Samson chose his death
Look there are dozens of examples… the difference was some had complete faith in God and were able to let go and enjoy the ride. Others did not have that confidence in who God was.
We speak a lot about how much faith a person has and how to use it… healing, giving, speaking out etc… but I believe the real mark of faith is your day to day reactions or response to what happens to you. If your faith and trust in God is great… the unknown is just the unknown… but if you lack that trust then the unknown is a daily minefield and battle.
So today choose to know God for who he is and not for insight into what is coming your way… trust me.. the not knowing can be extremely exciting when you know the one who dose in fact know. When your knower knows its all good.
