One of the greatest branding campaigns was the verizon commercials “can you hear me now”.
3. Obedience to his voice builds intimacy and power
Rom. 8:35-39 God is everywhere - "Can you hear me Now?"
What are 3 areas you want to know God’s will in… before you try to find out ask yourself “Do I really expect to find God’s will in these area’s?”
What job to take,
what college to go to,
who to marry,
How should I treat my spouse?
Should I invest my money in this?
should TAKE ON ANOTHER SPORT or hobby
should I change friends
should I dress the way I dress
should I watch this movie
Which leads us to point 2… it’s not enough to believe we can know his will –
- We must want to know his will
Our Scripture was Ephesians 5:17 NLT - "Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do." NIV-therefore do not be unwise but understand what the will of the lord is.
Sometimes I stop and ponder… what did kim ask me to do again? More then I ponder what does God want me to do?
REASONS WHY WE NEED TO KNOW GOD’S voice!
- It assures us of eternal life- not everyone who says to me lord lord shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father in heaven. Mt. 7:21
- It allows us to understand additional truth – if any man do his will, he shall know of the doctrine *understand God’s word– John 7:17
- It secures for us the promises of God – after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise – Heb. 10:36
- It is always what’s best for us bringing his fulfillment and purpose into our lives. BROKEN NECK! Was it God’s perfect will? That I don’t know, but I do know it brought about the best in me! God told me that this was what was best for me…
CHRIST EMBODIED THIS –
HE SAYS IN JN. 5:30 THAT HE DOES NOT SEEK HIS WILL BUT HIS FATHERS, HE SAID HIS FOOD IS TO DO THE WILL OF GOD JN. 4:34,
AND AT THE END OF HIS LIFE HE WAS ABLE TO SAY “I HAVE FINISHED THE WORK WHICH YOU HAVE GIVEN ME TO DO JN. 17:4
The two most prominent prayers in the New Testament are the Lord’s Prayer and the prayer at the garden of Gethsemane the night before his crucifixion. The theme in both prayers was “not my will but thy will be done!”
We many times Publicly say we want to know God’s will but Privately we know we will only live it if we like it better then ours.
In all your requests do you ask for God’s will in each area?
