Are we to break rules?
Now Garth lets be reasonable here…
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
― George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD THIS; Please just be reasonable?
Sure, you can follow that lead if you want… but what about people like
Martin Luther King Jr. - Take your place black man
Susan B Anthony - shut up your a woman
Michael Dell - you can’t sell computers you made out of your bathroom.
Jesus Christ
Johnathan Kanter writes:
Ultimately, it wasn’t the fact that Christ preached His ministry that broke the rules; it was the nature of what He spoke about and the fact that He declared Himself God (“Before Abraham was made, I Am.” St John 8:58). Jesus’ teachings centered around rejecting the Talmudic laws of the Pharisees and fulfilling the original Jewish faith as clarified by Him and the apostles He taught (the first Bishops and Popes). Still, many saw His words as subversive and against the doctrinal teachings of the Talmud and the extreme social regulations of pharisaical Judaism, dominant at the time.
hey I got an idea, lets break some rules, lets be incredibly unreasonable. Don’t share your opinion if it is offensive… lets break that rule - but break it in love.
Don’t share your faith with someone who has a different faith? Yeah lets break that rule as well
Don’t pray for people in public places. Break it and break it loud
Don’t witness in public places… people aren’t responsive to cold call witnessing like at the mall or on the street…. uhm break that one boldly
Don’t speak out on social issues that might offend people… break break break
Don’t love all people at all times no matter what? Again this should be broken, smashed and put back together just to break it again.
I would be so bold as to say, if you are trying to share the Gospel in love- its a free for all. Break the rules above and beyond. Never be reasonable with the gospel… because the gospel itself is unreasonable
Paul said to some it is like perfume, to others it smells like Poop. The gospel is based on the unreasonable. A God sends his son, who lives a sinless life, and loves us so much that allows us to kill him to forgive us? Soooo unreasonable… and yet so amazing.
Lets all be a little unreasonable today.
